This Quest Takes Place on Floor 16

This Quest is repeatable for only the reward

Description: On Floor 16, the Skull Island tribe is asking for help. They speak about a rare creature, of a giant serpent within the trees and riverbanks, that is stealthy and isn’t found easily. They have tried to fight it before, but their arrows seem to bounce off, as if something is protecting the snake. They have asked for others to help, but none of them have returned. They beg for your help, and will pay you for your troubles if you succeed in killing the creature.

Name and Stats:

Name: Hebishinu

HP: 600

MIT: 100

Damage Per hit: 140

+2 Accuracy

If lands 9-10 on BD, adds Paralyse or Toxic Venom. On CD, if the dice is 1-6, its Toxic Venom. If 7-12, its Paralyze, along with the +1 or +2 Damage from the roll
Slick Body: Hebishinu is covered in a slime that prevents attack from causing damage for two turns (Has 2 Safeguards applied)

Requirements:

2 or More Pages (21 Posts)

Hebishinu requires it's own Separate Roll, and it must be linked to the post as well as your own.

Must Roll a LD with 15+ to find snake after 10th post, then once found you must roll a 10 or more on the LD to land an attack, as the serpent hides within the water and trees.

Example:

Player 1 attacks Hebishinu and rolls a LD of 11. He is able to find and hit the creature, but he rolls a 1 on the BD, so he doesn't hit.

Player 2 attacks Hebishinu and rolls a LD of 3, and is unable to attack

Player 1 attacks Hebishinu again and rolls a LD of 15. He is able to hit, and he rolls a 6, so he hit's Hebishinu for however much damage

Charge is unusable, as trees and water block from a straight attack (This includes mods)

Rewards:

Serpent's Tongue: Adds +1 Toxic Venom and +1 Paralyze to Weapon for one Thread

3 SP

Col * 15 of a LD roll from a PST

(Updated to reflect changes in the September update)

You would think that a floor with perpetual water and beaches galore would be a more populated spot.  However, with the degree of danger that followed the sixteenth floor, the reasoning would be sound.  On the island floor that was all that there was, water and danger.  The mobs on this floor were much more powerful than the floors below it, and the one quest that lead many here would give many people the slip.  That was until the info hunters sniffed out the trail for the more elusive and dangerous quests.

This is where the hunter got his information about the Skull Island tribe.  It seemed that an exceptionally large snake, even bigger than the Sea Leviathan, had made its home in the marshes of their once peaceful home.  As much as the hunter wanted to question the notion of a place called 'Skull Island' being peaceful, he couldn't help but think of the thrill to hunt such a large beast.  However, there was still a problem of the beast being too powerful for even him to handle.  Thinking back on it, he remembered that a certain tank owed him a favor.

Opening his menu and changing icons to the friends list, he would find the name that he was looking for.

"@Shield, I've got a humdinger of a challenge in front of us this time.  Meet me on Skull Island on the 16th floor."

He wrote in a message before sending it off.

Shield heard the ping of his inbox and finished dumping out the bucket of chum into Norbert's 'retirement tank' before descending the step ladder to read in relative safety. He recognized the name 'Hirru' from the handful of quests they had taken so far, recognizing this would most likely be a good opportunity for more experience. Upon opening and reading the correspondence, he was not disappointed.

Quote

On my way. I've been up there before in search of that snake with a few comrades, but the slippery devil gave us the slip.

With that, he put up his step ladder and locked his shop, making his way outside and taking to the pathway for Taft. It was not a short journey, but Shield had made it so many times by now that he tuned out most of the terrain, and he also had found a number of shortcuts along the way. When he finally came to the teleportation plaza, he checked to make sure all of his things were in order before stepping inside.

"Sixteenth floor!"

He materialized on the arrival platform and stepped off, looking around for @Hirru.

The hunter realized after he sent the message that skull island was the meeting point, the hunter forgot one thing; Skull Island isn't part of the main hub line.  With a few quick pings and clicks, a secondary message was sent to the gruff tank, this time with map data leading towards the hunter's current position.  The message also apologized as he didn't know how far he could travel from the island without losing track of the illusive quest.  After sending the message, the hunter unequipped his crimson half-plate to wear the dual dragon bracelets of wind and earth.

"Might as well use this time to talk to the tribe.  Hopefully, they're friendly."

Entering the overgrowth that concealed the hidden skull village, the hunter would find several raised huts that seemed to show signs of life.  Looking around, none of the villagers seemed dangerous, or had red crystals atop their heads.  Only the iconic yellow ones denoting villagers and guards.

As soon as Shield's foot had hit the cobblestones outside of the teleportation pad, he heard another ping from his inbox. He opened the message and pulled a face. It wasn't as if he was unaware that the quest was off the beaten path. After all, it was not his first time attempting it. Still, he had been looking forward to company on his travels after walking the whole distance to Taft on foot alone.

"I guess I get to study shipping schedules for a bit then," he sighed aloud.

By the time he disembarked from the NPC run ship, he would not have been the least bit surprised if Hirru had gotten bored and gone home already. The path to the village was not a difficult one, but by now, Shield was definitely road-weary.

Just before entering the village, he spotted what seemed to be a rare sea shell. It was unlike anything he might have found in the real world, but that is most definitely what it seemed to be. He stored it before strolling into the little safe zone, keeping his eyes peeled for green hair.

"How many people do I have to talk to?!  This is ridiculous!"

During the long wait for Shield, he had 'talked' to three people, each giving their woes about the giant serpent that was scaring the wildlife and destroying the good fruit farms in the marsh beyond.  Frankly, the hunter was trying to care, but everything began to go in one ear and out the other.  By the time he could actually talk to, what seemed to be, the village elder, the hunter didn't want to hear another word that involved the words 'snake', 'worries', and 'mah cabbages'.  The last guy was really weird.

Thankfully, the elder didn't have a long story, and instead pointed us to the ancestral grounds of Skull Island.  Around then, he would finally get a waypoint marker and the golden question mark over the elder's head would changed into a grayed out one.  His quest log was updated automatically for him about the Hebishinu.

Leaving the residence, the hunter would see a familiar face.

"Oy, Shield!"

Shield's ears perked up as he heard a voice call out to him. Craning his neck, he spotted the telltale green hair that he had been looking for and jogged his way along the beach to the stilted hut that was the village elder's. He let out a long, wearied sigh of relief.

"Thank god," he said, not bothering to add the quest since he had technically already accepted it months prior. "I was beginning to feel like I was completing a quest scavenger hunt. If I got here and got another message, I was about to start yanking out some hair."

He took a few more moments to collect himself before addressing the business at hand.

"Well, in any case, it looks like we're all set and ready to head off inland to find our quarry," he said, willing himself to not be concerned with the long journey here. "Are you prepared, or do you need to resupply at all?"

"Well, thankfully the town has been fruitful with time wasting activities.  I don't think we need to waste any more time.  Though, I could use something for damage, but I'm not trekking all the way to the main island for it."

The hunter said while slapping a few bugs away from his exposed arms.  It wasn't that often that he had to remove his armor for a boss fight that seemed to cause more problems with luck based attacks, than with precisely timed planning.  The reports from Macradon and crew were details enough to let the hunter know how the beast could be fought.  It liked to hide under the water, and in the trees, only appearing when it needed to strike.  Afterwards, it would slowly slither into a new hiding place.  A most devious hunt, but nothing that couldn't be coaxed out by mere minuet planning.

"We'll let's head out!"

Shield gave a nod and turned towards the trees that grew further inland. His map still displayed the same dot that had marked the general area where the snake had been known to frequent for previous players, though it was a slippery enough opponent that simply being in such an area was no guarantee. He had found out first hand that much.

Along the way, Shield found yet another of the mysterious shells. He knelt down and tapped the item, selecting the option from the menu it summoned to store the item in his inventory with the other of its kind.

"This isn't my first time tracking down the snake, but hopefully it will be my first time actually getting a shot at defeating it," he said, his voice full of determination. This was, after all, one of the few remaining quests for him to complete. Any shot at fresh experience points was of extreme value to him.

Keeping the armor off, as he thought that he wouldn't need it, the hunter went into the wood with just his no sleeved turtle neck on top, and everything else kept on down below.  This act would garner the attention of hungry bugs that would come after his blood and sweat, at least, that was what he thought.  He could have just put on his Crimson Blades cloak, but it was too late to do any other planning.  The hunt was in motion, and he was not going to show any weakness that he hasn't already shown.  Thankfully, he wasn't one to show emotions too often, but one could never tell.

"Whoa, wait... You've already tried taking this thing out?  What made you give up?  Lack of damage?  Getting hit too hard?  Too often?"

The hunter was in near full investigation mode.  Any information that could be gathered is good information.

Shield groaned as he remembered the excursion he had taken here once before, back when Atzo and Aoda both still adventured from time to time. It had started well enough, but soon they were all fed up and had decided to cut their trip short.

"Even more embarrassing, actually," he said, running a hand back through his hair as he remembered nearly tearing some of the strands out the last time he had visited.  "It started out fine, but we couldn't find the bleeding snake to fight it. If it had bested us, that would be one thing, but we caught one glimpse of it, or at least we think we did, and then it was gone."

As they walked, Shield saw a piece of fruit hanging from a vine. He was fairly certain he had picked the same piece of fruit before, following the exact same path, but he tried not to think about it, rather focusing on the task of equipping his Pain Drinker shield and Razor Ire armor.

[ID: 85004] [LD: 9+5 (skill) + 3 (equip) + 3 (detect) = 20] Danger Noodle is found!

The hunter listened intently, but apparently his team apparently had trouble finding the bloody snake to begin with.  Even after finding it once, it eluded them forever after.  There wasn't much information to go on, so the hunter was kind of disappointed at the lack of usable info.  With his mood dampened like the surrounding marshes, the hunter decided that there shouldn't be any more time wasted.  His eyes changed from his aqua blue to a luminescent green as the effects of his search and detect mod combined to show an extended relay of the area.  If he combined reveal, then he could also see through objects, but it liked to make water invisible.

Though, he wouldn't need it when a large ping came back to him from a nearby marsh.  The water seemed to ripple every so often, but the outline was glowing quite clearly.  The hunter pointed it out to Shield before pulling his sword from its sheath.

"The snake is located.  Let's give it hell!"

Hirru pointed out the snake, and Shield, wasting no time, rushed towards the water. Unfortunately, his motions had been too obvious, and with a light plash, the massive snake swirled in the water and vanished among the ripples. He paused, coming to a stop before the water's edge and searching carefully, but unsuccessfully. Just as he had given up hope of spotting it and was about to shrink back, fangs and scales exploded out of the water.

The snake's coils wrapped around the tank as the teeth bit into him over and over again. He felt the cold venom seep through him, draining little bits of his life that were immediately replaced. As quickly as the assault had begun, it ended, and the snake vanished under the water's surface once more. Shield struggled back to his feet, his many glowing fang marks slowly disappearing.

"Well, that's as close as I've come to actually engaging the thing."

The fight seemed to begin without pause.  His tank seemed to want a showdown with the water, as he ran towards the direction that he had indicated, however, he couldn't see the blasted thing.  Only the hunter could make out the glowing highlights from the movements that the giant snake would produce.  'Well, isn't this something great.  I feel like Shield will be mostly blind for this venture,' the hunter thought to himself before the bloody thing attacked Shield.  Huge gaping jaw and fangs snapped shut on the poor tank leaving to well sized holes.  Though, the attack didn't do anything for his health.

The hunter tried to attack the beast before it returned to the depths, but it was fast.  Maybe too fast for the hunter to catch.  Should have developed precision instead.

"I'll try to call out where it is, but you'll have to be quick about it, if you want to chip away at it."

The venom from the previous attack continued to course through Shield's body. He watched his health, As the numbers drained away, they filled right back up, so that the last digit flickered back and forth between five and six. With his concerns of serious injury behind him, he turned his attention back to the water. This time, as Shield looked down into the rippling surface, he could make out something. Was it a submerged tree limb? No, it was moving. And it had two beady eyes staring up from the depths. Preparing himself for the attack, he gripped his axe.

There came another burst of water as the snake struck once again, but this time Shield was more prepared. However, his blade still just missed the serpent. Fangs once again sank into him, but without the potency of the first attack, and, despite the defensive abilities of the snake, there were no scales to protect the inside of its mouth. Recoiling with a hiss, Shield could see the creature's health dip below full.

"Gotcha," he grunted, watching as the snake sank back into the water to disappear once more.

This fight was going to be a long one, indeed.  With Shield constantly being attacked by the giant snake, Hebishinu, and the hunter constantly trying to keep track of its movements, he could barely keep up with any chance of a counter attack.  Thankfully, Shield's thorns and flame aura was doing their share of the damage to the bloody serpent.  The hunter worried a little bit when he saw the venom icon on Shield's name, but when all of his equipment seemed to negate the damage taken from all sides, his worry seemed for naught.

Instead, he lost his chance to attack while the snake swam out to a nearby sunken tree trunk.  The hunter was quick to point it out to Shield, but whether or not he could discern the snake from the log would be another matter all together.  It was times like these, that being the only one to see the enemy was truly painful.

Shield did his best to follow the directions that Hirru had given him, but even as he waded out knee-deep into the swampy water, his better vantage point did nothing to expose the foe. He knew that this would only make him a bigger target, but so far, being hit was the only thing that had taken any effect upon the serpent.

"I'm remembering now why we never finished this fight," he called out over his shoulder.

Even as he did so, he felt coils moving around his legs through the water, and before he could react, fangs had once again plunged themselves into him, this time entirely below the water's surface. While being bitten was not a pleasant sensation by any stretch of the imagination, the dagger-like teeth did not penetrate into him as far as swords or the massive claws of most foes, so the sensation was not as unpleasant.

"I guess we'll get there eventually."

The bugger wasn't getting away this time.  Rushing out into the waters themselves, the hunter jumped into the air and slammed his blade into the glowing mass that was around Shield.  The hunter expected a bit of orange gashing or slight orange bleeding to occur, but there was nothing.  The blade, even though the hunter felt the strike hitting true, was pushed aside as easily as anything else.  The hunter had to think before backing out of the water for a bit.  There was a reason for this, he thought.  That's when Capt. Mac's report would come back to him.  The snake had some weird film over its body that could deflect a few attacks.  That seemed to explain how Shields thorns and flames were getting through, then.  The snake was taking that damage directly to its soft inner mouth.

"It's coming up for air! Get ready for the next chance."

So far, attacking directly, even upon a successful strike had proven unreliable at best. Shield may have had just as good of a shot to dispel the protective barriers, but if he was going to continue to be useful in the face of so much defense, he was going to need to capitalize on what had proven effective so far. Tapping his quick item menu, he drew out an Immolation Potion and quickly chugged its contents. His body, although partially submerged, took on a slight halo of flickering red, as of flames.

No sooner had he downed the tincture than he felt the familiar fangs in his ankle. As he had hoped, the effects of the potion dropped the health gauge more than it had on prior attacks, although as soon as Shield had gotten a glimpse of it, it was gone again.

"Not exactly pretty, but it'll have to do," he called out. "Whatever works!"

"The more damage that we do to this thing; the better we will be."

The hunter called back to the tank while focusing on the snake.  It took to the surface for only a second, but sank back in while moving towards Shield's feet.  Taking a second to make sure he wasn't going to hit the tank, he launched forward once more and landed another strike against the freaky snake.  This one would also slide off of the coating of the large snake, causing no damage to visibly show on the boss creature.  The hunter couldn't recall how much this coating could handle before it broke, but that should be the last one.  It would all depend on some minuet tactics to see where they could go with it.  If Shield could land a hit against the Hebishinu, then maybe the hunter could confirm that one or two attacks were required against the serpent.

"Shield, can you get in a hit?"

Shield glanced back briefly at Hirru and gave a shrug. The question wasn't whether he could get in a hit. The question was whether he'd be able to. Still, he did his best to focus, waiting until the water around him showed signs of movement before swiping with his axe. Sure enough, there came a thrashing from beneath the water's surface and several of the snake's coils surged out and splashed back down into the water. The damage itself was minuscule, but it told them what they needed to know.

"He's vulnerable!" he called, turning back to Hirru. "Let's take advantage of-"

The snake's head reared up out of the water, its slit pupils glaring at the tank, who so far by some crazy stroke of luck, had been the only one to harm it so far. With its fangs bared, it latched onto Shield's shoulder, injecting more of the freezing venom into his body.

"I just managed to get rid of that effect," he groaned.
