[F18-PP] The Ancient myth <<Just For The Halibut>>

Recommended Posts

Pinball grit his teeth as the boat lurched forward, crashing into the sand. The nimble boy leapt out just as the front of the dinghy splintered and shattered, his boots sending up a splash of water as he landed in the sand bar. The fish were all around them, and Pinball's heart beat fast in his chest. This is dangerous, he knew. It felt like there was a lump in his throat as he took a step back, lowering his spear, glaring at each mob surrounding the boat crash. "Damn it, damn it, damn it," he cursed under his breath. Baldur called out to him to be careful, but Pinball was already moving, panicked by the sheer amount of them. If he could freeze one... just one... Pinball leapt forward, activating his strongest AoE. Zomekko, the ghostly cat sleeping in a jar tied to his waist, pooled out in a thick black fog, surrounding his weapon in a shadowy aura. His spinning attack cut into three of the four Fossil Fishes, with two of the monsters he hit stopping dead in their tracks, treading water. One of them, however, was no longer swimming; the first Fossil Fish was floating in the water, completely encapsulated in ice. He stomped the ground, agitated. "I'm not meant for AoE, damn it!" Pinball took a step back, realizing he was going to be taking hate for the four fish now. "Hestia! Do you have a plan? Baldur! Are... are  you any good with AoE?"

I look towards the fish hoard that we have managed to fish up as i just watch slightly stunned and amazed that it was this quick, and then subsequently seeing Pinball quickly go in with an attack and dealing quite a good bit of damage. Nice job Pin! Keep up the damage! Help me out with the giant one though. Baldur i would like for you to take on the fossil fish for us since if i remember correctly katanas do have good AOE capability. I say over towards the samurai like warrior as i then quickly slam the pommel of my sword against my shield as i activate howl. A certain echo going through the area causing three of the fish to turn to me alongside the Lurker. Come and try to topple iron wall that is myself! I say as a challenge towards the fish that only two seem to take. The Giant Lurker, and one of the small fossil fishes that Pin had missed in his attack. I just grin and move forward as much as i can and raises my shield to prep for the attack.

I see the two just rush at me and zoom around the water i had entered and wasted no time and slamming against my armor as i quickly catch myself from the attack from the fossil fish as i then turn to the Lurker who slaps me with his light thing on top of his head. When he does so electrical tendrils go off shocking me as my health pool drops a fair amount considering i am a tank as i quickly land in the water once more on my back with a slight grunt as i hit the ground. I quickly get back up onto my feet to look towards the two other fossil fish who were looking at me from howl starting to move once more, and the frozen fish breaking out of its confines.

"Don't worry, I got this!"

Baldur watched with worry as Pinball AoE'ed the fish, but he had the mod for charge that gave him an AOE stun. It was impressive what he did, and Baldur saw one of the fish freeze with ice. Impressive. But now it was his turn.

Crouching down to initiate his own <<charge>> attack, Baldur rocketed forward like a blue and orange blur into the midst of the fish, and his black and red katana was a whirl of color with the crimson light of the sword art as he slashed through each of them. The ribbons of light cutting beyond his sword, and splitting three of the four in twain, and causing their forms to shatter into a radiant explosion of polygons that surrounded him.

The last one, the unhurt one, was just shy of what he needed to kill it. It would die to Hestia's thorns soon enough, but he hated leaving anything unfinished.

"One got through. I'll leave it to you Hestia. Pin and I will skewer this fish and make sashimi!"

As Baldur launched his AoE, the sounds of death via shattering coming soon after, Pinball turned his attention to the Lurker. It was a colossal beast, to be sure; he had never fished up anything near its size... and he had fished up a snowman, for Christ's sake. Its toothy maw and its size attributed to the threatening aura of the fish. Pinball gave his spear a twirl. I should have saved my Charge for this, he scowled. Zomekko joined with his weapon once more, and his spear glowed a bright purple: Dimension Stampede. He attacked the creature, four quick stabs landing surprisingly shallow wounds. He jumped, his spear carving a long slash along its mouth. His spear caught, and Pinball kicked off of the thing, landing back in the sand bar with a splash. He barely put a lasting mark on the mob's body, and Pinball grimaced.

I look towards the last two remaining enemies as i grin a bit at that as i look towards the small little fish, and the giant lurker that remains swimming about and seeming ready to chomp and kill anybody who would try to kill. I focus on the small little fish knowing that from the fact Pinball didn't do much damage that i should focus on the ones i can hurt. With that i quickly charge towards the tiny fossil fish and starts cutting it over and over until it bursts into nothing as i grin as i stand back up after having struck the small fish. I then feel a smash against my back pushing me forward ever so slightly from the lurker having slammed into me, and not doing much from the damage as i just heal most of it without any issue. I gaze back towards the giant lurker as it tries to retreat back deeper into the water to make it more difficult for it to be hurt.

Baldur took a moment to sheath his sword again as he turned from the little fish to the big one. He focused his vision, causing the red targeting icon to appear above the <<Lurker>>. He crouched back down, preparing his <<charge>> skill, and felt the thrum of energy building around him as he held it back, waiting for the right moment as the system fought him, trying to launch him into the attack. As as soon as Hestia and Pin were out of his way, Baldur unleashed his sword art <<San Ge>>.

As he drew the sword, Crimson light erupted from the sheath and followed behind each of his sword swings, the brilliant arcs of energy tore into the giant fish, cutting far beyond where the end of his sword would reach and exposing the red wire frame mesh that built the creature's 3d model.

"Alright Pin! You got this! Reel her in!!!" Baldur called out as he was caught up in the post animation freeze. A slight smile spread across his face at the chunk of health he tore out of the creature. It wasn't as much as he had hoped, which meant this thing probably had decent mitigation, but it would be enough. If Pin couldn't finish it off with this next blow, then even Hestia could probably finish it.

Taking another glance around as the battle progressed, Pinball was surprised to see that the fight was nearly over. It couldn't have been five minutes since they had started the fight, and, looking at the creature in front of them, he knew it would be finished very soon. Pinball gave his spear a twirl, taking a step back, leaving a furrow of water as his boots tread through, then lowered his spear. Baldur called out for him to hit it, and Pinball jumped forward, hoping he would manage to hit the scary looking sea creature. The monster seemed to be very wounded from Baldur's attack. In fact, as he approached, it shrank back, as if to retreat back into the water. Pinball jumped, his spear flashing out four times. As he fell and the monster thrashed about, his spear dug into its side, and Pinball slid down, leaving a long red gash across the side. Halfway through this sliding, it shattered into blue shards, and Pinball fell into the water beyond the sand bar.

I whistle a lot and happy whistle at seeing the lurker explode in a fountain of pixels ending the fight with that attack as a notification pops in front of me showing me the drop reward as i just nod my head at seeing it as i look towards the duo of players. Seems like the beast dropped some kind of necklace or bracelet that gives a bonus towards finding things, and the amount of COL you get when you kill mobs that give out loot. I say towards the two as i see if the description gives them any interest for if they would want the item or not in the very end. Knowing that for some that could be a rather good item to have when searching for things and trying to make a quick buck off of doing so. I then glance towards pin and gives a nod of my head and a smile. Nice job killing the Lurker Pin. That thing had no chance against your spear, and of course i have to thank you also Baldur. With your help the fossil fish were quickly dispatched so we can focus n the big fry. I say in a grateful tone of voice with a small bow towards the man to thank him.

As soon as Baldur saw the lurker shatter into thousands of luminous polygons, he whipped his katana around in a wide, arcing flourish and sheathed the black and red blade without missing a beat. As Pin landed into the water by the sandbar Baldur gave a warm smile.

"Well done kid. I wasn't sure if I got it's HP low enough for you, but you pinned it down!"

His smile went a bit wry and self satisfied as the samurai waded through the water and back up to the limited bit of dry land the bar offered, proud at slipping in another aquatic pun. The water drug at his haori and it felt to him like his boots would never feel comfortable again, but he knew that wasn't true. A short time away from the water and he'd be magically dry. Still, water was one thing they hadn't gotten just right and so it felt uncomfortable. It wasn't as bad in the shower, but Baldur had spent a lifetime on the beach.

"Perhaps we can flag the fisherman down to come pick us up? And if no one is interested, I could make use of the item... Just let minnow."

He could use the item. His break from the front lines means he had absolutely no tier 3 materials, and so he couldn't get the equipment he needed for the next boss fight.

Wading back over to the others, sopping wet, Pinball placed the butt of his spear to the side, where he attempted to lean on it. The weapon sunk an inch into the sand, but it held there, and Pinball put his weight on it, letting out a deep sigh. "Yeah, no," he said, "thanks for getting it that low. I couldn't really have... lasted as long as I did without you." When Hestia spoke about the rewards they had received, Pinball immediately shot up, though Baldur had beaten him to it, all the while still able to get in another fish pun. He shook his head. "Oh, yeah. You can have it," he mumbled, shrugging. Truth was, he would have loved to take it. His guild was only just now reaching the frontlines; well, Stryder and himself were, at least. Stryder had told Pinball about his plans for the guild hall, and Pinball wanted to help out. If Hestia had been truthful about the enhancements on the thing, it would probably help them out quite a bit. Pinball lifted his spear, and took a step back. It wasn't like he could craft buffs without it. It'd still help. Pinball shook it off.  "I'm not gonna use a boat. I'm just going to go ahead and swim back." And with that, he started on his way.

i look towards Pinball as he just starts swimming on over back towards the destination as i blink i surprise at that as i give a shrug of my shoulders figuring that is his choice. I then look back towards Baldur. I mean it is a lake so i am certain we can just walk around its edge to get back towards the location of the fishing shack where the fisherman will be waiting for us. By then Pinball should've made it back also. i say with a nod of my head as i make my way by walking towards the fishing shack once more rather curious to see how the fisherman will react to seeing the group of three players having killed and fished up that legendary fish of his that is reminiscent of a Angler fish back from the real world. My familiar flying right beside me as i happily pet the affectionate lion on the top of his head for always being their for me a happy smile on my face as i'm petting his soft fur.

Baldur shrugged his shoulders when Pinball decided to swim across the lake back to the fisherman's house, and Hestia decided to walk along the sandbar and try to get back to shore and walk around the lake. Rather than be the odd man out an hail a new ship, Baldur trudged through the water after Hestia as they navigated the sandbar and shallows back to shore. It was a pretty enough floor that he didn't mind the walk. The water, in spite of being inhabited by giant, angry, angler fish was beautiful and pristine. Untainted. The trees held that little bit of pine scent that reminded him of camping as a kid. The wind blew with a mild temperature that wasn't too hot, but could be just cold enough with the water to make him happy he was wearing a jacket. The whole floor seemed too idyllic for a death game.

But this floor seemed to have the purpose of giving them a rest. The last boss fight had been a slog, a challenge to test them, and now they were being given a moment to catch a breath.

"I never asked, Hestia, but I'm not familiar with the guild symbol. I mean, I've heard the name, but I don't know anything about your guild other than Jomei is in it. What can you tell me about your peers?"

Pinball trudged through the cool, pristine waters. As the water rose first past his boots, than past his knee, Pinball fell forward, and began wading through the lake, eventually picking up into a doggy paddle. When he could no longer feel ground beneath his feet, Pinball burst forward, leaving a clear blue furrow in his wake. He had slung the spear across his back before starting his swim, so the weapon only pulled on him slightly as he made his way across the lake. Feels weird, he thought, not for the first time, but there's something about swimming that clears my head. Pinball dived under, taking in the underwater scenery, only to find... it's a bit empty. The lake was surprisingly barren, though he couldn't clearly see the bottom of it. A few fish swam, darting as the boy sank lower and lower. I wonder how long I can hold my breath. Pinball would find out.

I walk alongside Baluder with a smile on my face as i just enjoy the scenery and view of just walking along with a former player that seemingly knows quite a bit about the world and its past if the time with questing alongside Hirru was anything to go by. I look towards the blue clothed man and nods my head as he requests information about my guildmates and understandably so. Well for my guild we have one of the other frontliner healers that goes by the name Ruby. She is a kind girl who loves fashion, and likes to change her fashion up in terms of hair style seemingly quite a bit from time to time. Then we have Jomei's girlfriend Telrenya who i haven't had much time to actually spend time with, but she has seem kind enough and rather determined to try and not be a hindrance to people around her. So much so that she went on quite a few dangerous adventures until people ran into her which aided in her not dying. I say with a small chuckle remembering the guild dungeon day where they found that masked girl, and then another for myself just out from Tartarus.

Then their is Kimi a girl my age who seems to have a knack for finding loot and loves to find such loot. Then we have Spencer who is a trouble magnet for traps seemingly, but is a really sweet and kind person. Then their is Ryo who wants to try and become the hero of Aincrad by becoming a figure others can look up to seemingly. We got a new person by the name of Piera who i've never really interacted with. Then their is Kairi who is i think spending time in reflecting about things since i haven't seen her recently. I think the last member was a girl named Jevi who is another i haven't had time to talk to yet. I say listing off all the members and some small description. Hoping to myself that i didn't forget about anyone.

Baldur glanced to the side out at the lake and saw what looking like Pin swimming through the water. A small smile crossed his lips, before he turned back to the beautiful lakeside scenery that surrounded Hestia and himself. He could imagine setting up a house here, and just forgetting about the outside goings on of Aincrad. His parents had had a lake house in a place that felt very much like this. They had retired to a life in the mountains. His dad had always wanted to avoid people as much as possible and just disappear into the wilderness. After everything Baldur had seen here in Aincrad, he could very much understand that feeling.

He listened as Hestia listed off the guild members in a far more indepth manner than he had expected, but he would never remember all of those names. But his ears did perk up when she mentioned Piera. Did that mean that Lee would be returning to the scene as well? They were both a good, calming influence on perhaps not the frontline, but the frontline adjacent.

"And what about you? What's your one sentence by-line?"

What would someone say is my by-line? Probably that I'm that quirky wanna-be samurai. Baldur gave a smirk at his own thoughts. As he continued at an unhurried pace. All they had left to do was return the fishing poles and complete the quest.

Down and down he sunk, the blue waves fading to black as he descended, deeper and deeper. The lake wasn't terribly large, nor was it deep; as he touched ground, he looked up, and he could still see the surface. He figured it'd take him three, maybe four seconds to ascend at a leisurely pace. But that wasn't what he was here for. Pinball turned his attention back to the lake floor, looking around, his long hair flowing with his movements. There seemed to be a profound lack of fish at the bottom of the lake. Looking back up, he still saw the small ones darting back and forth, followed by the bigger, slower ones. Strangely enough, his lungs weren't burning like they did in real life, either. Maybe there's a time limit. My health'll probably start ticking down. It was then that he felt a chill crawl up his spine. The water around him seemed to get colder and colder. Pinball grimaced, turning around.

There were a cluster of rocks bunched up, directly in front of him. There seemed to be some kind of opening, barely concealed by clusters of seaweed. From out of that hole, two, crab-like appendages protruded, clawing at the rocks. Because of the dimly lit waters, he could barely see the distance. The only reason he could see the legs at all was because of the six bright, glowing red eyes coming from the mouth of the sea-cave, lighting up its surroundings like a fiery glowstick.

I chuckle a bit at the asking of what my description would be as i continue to walk alongside you as i say with very little hesitation. Then their is Hestia a person that wants to try and help anyone that could be in need with her healing and tanking skills. I think that would be a fitting one liner for myself Baldur, but a more in deph is that i want to protect as many as i can from harm while also trying to inspire those to continue forward. To try and become a symbol that could help ease the worry of others knowing they have me defending them. Also it seems that i have also become a sort of namer of peoples builds. I say in a joking sort of voice when mentioning peoples builds as i point towards the lake where Pinball jumped in. When i did the night's king quest on floor four alongside him and one of his guildmates i ended up naming their build by their request to do so. Pinball i called the Scorpion fighter of the Guardians of the Dawn, and his friend Reinholt the Sabertoothed Great Knight of the Guardians of the Dawn. I say with a chuckle as i rub the back of my head as i say that. Hoping that it isn't seen as silly or anything of the like. What about yourself Baldur what would you say is your own one liner for introduction if you think people had to describe you? I ask curiously with a smile as the two of us arrive at the shack as i look towards the lake slightly worried since Pinball hasn't come back up for air just yet.

Baldur listened to Hestia with a smile on his face, as his eyes carefully picked out the path before them. It was an old habit from his hiking days. Tripping wasn't as much of a thing in SAO as it was in the real world. It definitely still happened, but every stone was modeled and put into place, which meant that walking paths tended to be much easier to navigate than in the real world, though rough terrain could be just as treacherous. It just went to his subconscious how much this reminded him of home that he felt old habits returning.

As Hestia spoke about herself, Baldur nodded along. She had good ideas, though he couldn't quite feel her heart through her words yet. Sometimes that happened instantly, and sometimes it happened over time. Hestia had a way about her that made it hard for Baldur to read, though she seemed to be a kindred spirit, so he nodded along with her words, as he deeply agreed with them. A symbol, huh? It was much better suited to someone who filled in the Tank role, or possibly the healer role, but the Tank was such an essential position, and they literally put themselves in harm's way for the safety of others... especially in this game. It took a certain type of person to do it when their life wasn't on the line. Hestia's personal sacrifice and bravery to take up that role was... impressive. Is it impressive because she's taking on so much responsibility in spite of being young, or is it less impressive because youth always feel immortal and invincible?

The gaijin samurai wasn't sure when he stopped thinking of himself as a youth, or when he lost that youthful vigor, but it had happened. Perhaps when Tyger had been caught up in all of this and disappeared. There are things worse than death. It was a chilling reminder to him, and one that people often forgot.

He gave an amused smile when she got to the part about naming builds. Calrex had done that too, once upon a time, but once he heard her names, he realized it was something different. Calrex's names had been a taxonomy, but Hestia's were flare. They were titles that you might get from an achievement, or what you might be known as. Calrex had chosen his, The Ultramarine Knight though it had a different meaning to Cal than just a color to associate. It was a cute game. Teayre had tried to give Baldur one as well, but the Azure Chevalier. It had stuck for the guild, since they were all given a color, though they were mostly shades of blue, but the title never quite fit. He certainly strived to be the romantic notion of what a chevalier was, but it didn't fit him.

"My one sentence description? I've never really given it much thought. I am what I am, and what I am is what I appear to be. Baldur, you could say, is what he appears to be at first impression. What you see is what you get." He gave a sad smile at his non-answer. He didn't really say anything with all those words, but that in itself was part of the meaning. A lot of words to say little. "I try to carry my weight, and move forward, one step at a time."

He let Hestia think on that as he continued to walk, enjoying the quiet and the peace of the moment. It wasn't one he got often.

In an instant, Pinball's head broke water, and he swam towards shore with renewed vigor, not wanting to spend anymore time near the thing that lurked below. It definitely wasn't what we foughthe thought uncomfortably, and this is still a pretty high floor. He didn't want to take his chances; besides, he had started feeling the effects of suffocation. He approached the two players in the distance at a rapid pace. In between strokes, he sputtered through lake water, "The very deep did rot: O Christ! That ever this should be!" Pinball hit shallow waters, and was able to walk again. He stood, then trudged towards his party members, who were now approaching the old man's shack to presumably return the fishing rod. "Yea, slimy things did crawl with legs, upon the slimy sea." Pinball hit dry land in a stumble, nearly losing his footing on the slippery slope, but caught himself. His wet hair hung loose and close to his face, and his equipment had the appearance of being soaked, though he knew the effect would wear off in a few moments. Pinball waved to Hestia and Baldur. "I'm back.

I walk alongside the samurai at a very relaxed and calm pace with a smile upon my face with every step that i take forward. Enjoying the silent that can be brought from just walking without any words needing to be exchanged. That the silence can speak some more words then any paragraph or essay could try to convey.i walk along the simple path around the lake as i look around and takes in the sights that i am able to see, and making some mental notes for later about some of the scenery and locations that i can spot from where i am. Wanting to try and make sure that i could bring something back for friends to enjoy if i manage to get lucky. With that thought in mind i do grin as i swap out my heavy armor for some simple vanity clothes along with having a long flowing golden cloak with the depictions of a ram on its back in scarlet red. With this i smile as i glance around the area figuring i will try my hand in trying to find something that are mainly scouting stuffs. I then hear Baldur's answer as my brow furrows ever so slightly at hearing his response. Finding it ever so cryptic with its meaning, but sounds like it could hold a lot if given much thought. i walk alongside as i glance around the area. Finding nothing of note just lots of forests and swampy area i glance towards Pin as i see him come out of the lake talking some nonsense. For myself i just chuckle seeing it as Pin just being Pin with once he walks on over i just give him a grin. Can't you ever be normal Pinball? I ask jokingly towards the spear user.
