[PP-22] <<Witch of the West>>

Recommended Posts

Cordelia blinked as an NPC stood before her, blubbering about some kinda of witch and her. . . flying monkeys? Well, she wished she could say that's she has never experienced something like this, but something in the back of her head told her otherwise.

"Er. . . So you want me to kill them?" She asked, not really sure what he was exactly asking. He nodded eagerly before he scampered off to God knows where. "Okay, then," she huffed. seeing the quest window pop up in front of her. Witch of the West, hm? It sounded interesting, but she wondered why it was such a low-leveled quest on such a high floor.

Well it was nothing she couldn't handle, so she might as well fly it solo. The stats don't look too terribly bad, she just needed to conserve and evade!

"Alright, Pacco!" She declared, "let's go slay this witch and her flying monkey things!"

A green witch? Flying monkeys? Tell her the rumors were true. NIGHT dashed over to the teleporter when she'd heard the news, forgoing all sense of cautiousness when it came to her and adventure. She wanted -- no, she had to know if they were true for herself.

Skidding as she left the platform, she was about to holler out to the crowd of characters nearby, when a sudden screech from above caught her attention instead. A winged beast -- just like the stories of yore. With a proud grin, tailed it, sprinting and dashing through the streets. Then, she would chase it through woods, where the forest was coniferous in nature, the woman not noticing the beauty of the land around her for a moment.

As the trees parted, she spotted the structure, with a variety of flying dots in the sky. Rumors had told her that she'd spy a green witch up above, amongst the western skies. And she'd caught sight of her. The wicked witch of the west. NIGHT couldn't wait to try defying gravity, after all.

Also, Cordelia was there. When NIGHT stepped out of her amusement, she returned to her usual self, giving the girl a quick wave and a "Yo!" from afar, moving forward to step closer.

Cordelia looked up at the sky and grimaced. "Well, this is going to be fun."

She blinked as a face she has really been seeing a lot lately showed up. She gave a small wave and turned to the brunette. "You seem awfully chipper today," she mentioned, giving her an amused smile as she nodded to her. "Is it because of this quest or something?" She asked, turning her head to look at the at the sky again, which was still filled with whatever the hell those things are.

"How the hell am I supposed to kill flying monkeys?" She whispered under her breath, furrowing her brows. She was going have to defy physics, wasn't she?  Well, that's already happened countless times before but never to this extent. She was literally going to have to defy the gravitational pull.

"So are you doing this quest, too?" She asked, turning her attention back to NIGHT.

"I could tell you the same," NIGHT retorted back with a smirk. "But I already have."

With a pull of her sword, she pointed it up at the flying monkeys. Her mood brightened when she spotted the green dot whizzing against the grey clouds. In such a dreary place as this, it was odd how the sight could make someone like her smile. "See, it's like the Wizard of Oz? Y'know that old story about the yellow brick road and everything?"

"Except--" NIGHT did her best to trail the green, grimacing as she struggled to catch up with their speed. "--There's a play on that-- and-- that witch-- should be named Elphaba--!"

Her blade-waving drew the attention of a few guardian flying monkeys, and they swooped in, shrieking, hot for the kill. The woman looked back upon them, wide-eyed, before delivering a blow to the best of her abilities, trying to knock them out the air.

Well, I probably shouldn't have done that...

Cordelia deadpanned as she looked at the mobs whizzing past the two. What was so exciting about a bunch of monkeys with wings and a green lady on a broomstick? "Oh, that. . . yeah, I've heard about it a couple times, I guess," she murmured, scratching the side of her head. "I never watched it or anything though, the concept just sounded too weird for me."

"Elphaba?" She scoffed, shaking her head as she muttered under her breath, "Americans and their weird ass names."

She took a step back when she saw the monkeys start darting towards the two. Ah, great. She can check this off of her list of things she never thought she would experience but experienced it anyway. Flying monkeys coming for your head? Check!

Seeing that NIGHT had missed one of the monkeys, Cordelia took it upon herself to finish off the thing. Using a sword she really has only used once, she kicked herself off of the ground and placed a hand on her sheathed katana and in an attack too quick to be seen with the naked eye, she disabled and dispatched the remaining monkey.

"Alright, there shoulder be two tougher ones coming in soon."

"You should give it a shot when you get out," NIGHT offered, grinning, pulling her blade up into her usual defensive stance. She watched as Cordelia rushed in, taking out the last primate of the pack. "It's a really good story about friendship and standing up against injustice. And the songs are amazing -- It's basically a classic!"

Right after her blade tore through her enemy, the white-haired girl issued her party member a warning. Speak of the devil and it arrives -- in fact, there were two of the stronger demons she'd mentioned before, shrieking as they began to make their appearance, swooping in to strike at the players. With a well-timed strike of her hilt, she sent a shockwave towards her enemies, stunning them still.

I'll never get tired using that skill--!

A smirk, as NIGHT watched them drop to the floor, netting the two girls some safety, and a better chance to strike.

Oscar had been minding his own business, chillin' when he decided to look through his friend list. Bahr was on Floor One, as per usual. Lessa seemed to be busy. But then something odd appeared. NIGHT, the noob who worked across the street from Oscar, was up on Floor 22. Upon further examination of his list, so was Cordelia. Being a smart man, Oscar was able to put two and two together. Not wanting to miss out on the fun, Oscar absolutely raced to their location. It was all a blur. Oscar didn't really remember being able to move that quickly. But, thankfully, he was able to arrive just as NIGHT delivered and absolutely beautiful AoE stun. He hoped that they wouldn't mind if he cut in. He seized the opportunity and leaped high into the air. Then, like a meteor from on high, he crashed down, slamming the head of Chaos Eater into the ground. The resulting shockwave sent chunks of stone flying outward in all directions like shrapnel. It completely eviscerated the two targets and left the third monkey that had appeared as if in response to Oscar's arrival teetering on the brink of death. Oscar turned back and gave the both of them a bright smile.

"Hope you guys don't mind me dropping in."

"I don't think I'm the type to enjoy musicals about friendship," Cordelia mumbled, tilting her head. She always found musicals to be. . . weird? It just seemed so unnatural to her that it just flat out made it enjoyable.

Cordelia held up a thumbs up as she watched NIGHT go and stun the elite monkeys. Man, this quest just got a whole lot easier.

She was just about to go and use an AoE sword art of her own when a large crash sounded from wherever. Bits of debris and dirt whizzed by her as she looked over to the source of the sound.

"Eh-- Oscar?"

Was she dreaming or something? She pinched herself. Nope this was real, well, as real as it can get in a video game.

"I guess I don't mind. . ?" She muttered, shrugging her shoulders. She still had no idea what the hell was going on. Her chin tilted upwards, realizing that there was still a lone elite monkey still left. She shook her head before jumping into the air, delivering a much weaker sword art than she was used to, but it was basically the same thing as a San Ge. . . but not really? She wasn't really sure what the hell she was supposed to be doing anymore.

"Really?" NIGHT heaved her blade up onto her shoulder. "Ah... That's too bad, then--"

With a crash, the land in front of them was torn apart, shattering the monkeys into pieces, leaving a third one appearing from who-knows-where badly wounded in the distance. A glance, and she spotted a familiar figure. "Oh-- Oscar?"

Perhaps it was with the man's sudden entrance that caused a fury up in the clouds. In a heartbeat within their foes being vanquished, another set of basic flying monkeys tagged back into the fight, squealing and screeching like no tomorrow. "Oh, for heaven's--"

As they got close enough to be in target range, NIGHT unleashed a flurry of strikes, calling on Calamity Disaster to rend her foes asunder. It was too bad that one of the strikes frayed off course, giving one of the monkeys ample time to dodge and weave its way out of the fight, before rushing back in again. A click of her tongue. "Thanks for taking care of the two of them back there," she added with a look behind her shoulder, before getting ready to defend herself again.

Another wave of monkeys had descended upon them from on high. NIGHT clearly had come a long way since they had first crossed paths. She was able to easily dispatch all but one of them. The lone survivor had been just agile enough to avoid NIGHT's incoming Sword Art. Unfortunately, in so doing, it put itself right in Oscar's path. Chaos Eater struck like lightning, cleaving through the monkey. Screw Dimension warped the space around the point of impact for a brief moment before exploding out with great force. The monkey was sent flying back into a wall where it shattered upon impact. Oscar took a deep breath and looked up at clear skies. No more monkeys seemed to be attack. A mercy, to be sure. NIGHT had to be low on Energy. If they had any hope of defeating the quest boss, they'd all need to be at full strength.

"Hey guys, let's take a breather for a second. I think you both owe me an explanation about why I was left out of all of the fun."

Well this fight was pretty anticlimactic. They needed to fight more monkeys than she expected but they managed to do it, somehow, anyway. Thank God they were dead. She was sure how much longer she could deal with the sound of wings flapping and monkey screams and screeches her ears could take be her whole head imploded. She looked over to Oscar and let out a small and nervous laugh.

"I didn't want to seem like a clingy girlfriend and bring you on every quest I went on," Cordelia mumbled, shaking her head. "I didn't think you'd be free today either, sorry," she sighed, massaging her temples. Damn, she really did not want to fight a big green lady on a broom anytime soon. . . but a quest is a quest! As is experience is experience!

"So you just decided to go and sniff us out then, huh?" She asked, tilting her head. "You got here pretty fast actually. . . we haven't even been here that long."

An explanation? NIGHT sheathed her blade, lost for words. She hadn't expected her neighbour to come asking for answers to questions like that. She returned Oscar a shrug, and a surprised look. "S-sorry? I-I guess I didn't know you were interested. Actually, I just ran into Cordelia on the way here myself."

The adventurer looked over the two of them, curious. So they were a couple after all. She wouldn't have thought so herself, but it's not like she knew the two players well enough to make a guess otherwise. NIGHT slung her arms behind her head again, humming in understanding. "I mean, I don't think asking for help or company's being clingy," the woman offered, in complete honesty. "Isn't that a thing that couples do together? Of course, I might be wrong...?"

She leaned sideways, following the tilt of her own head at her words. Now she just felt like a third wheel out of place...

"See? NIGHT gets it! I mean we live together honey. You're not bothering me if you ask me to join you on a quest." Oscar fake-pouted. In any case, it would seem their short breather had restored their energy. His blue energy bar was at maximum, though he would imagine Cordelia and NIGHT would need to wait just a bit longer. After all, they didn't have his housing buffs increasing the rate at which they restored their energy. In the interim, Oscar decided now would be a good time to take some consumables. He hadn't had the chance before he arrived being that they were in the thick of combat. So he quickly scarfed down a special hot dog and downed a vial of brownish-red liquid. He shuddered at the taste. Chili Dogs were good. Liquefied Chili Dogs, not so much. Either way, it wouldn't be long now before everyone was set to put an end to the witchy witch of witchiness.

"I'm just picking on you Cordelia. We don't have to be all over each other all the time. Some things are best done in private." He gave her a cheeky wink and stuck out his tongue.

"I'll keep that in mind for next time then," she mumbled, feeling her face heat up in embarrassment.

"Anyway!" She exclaimed, slapping her cheeks lightly. "After we get all of energy back let go after that witch! Elphaba or whatever," she mumbled, shaking her head. She wasn't sure if she would ever want to even try to watch the movie if it looked like anything from this quest.

She looked over at Oscar and deadpanned. She wasn't sure what was in that vial. . . and she was pretty sure she didn't want to know. . ? Judging by Oscar's reaction, it probably wasn't the tastiest of things? The real question was if he made that himself or had someone else make it for him. She would feel bad for both parties either way.

"You're always picking on me," she mumbled under her breath, crossing her arms over each other as she let out a small laugh.

Oscar pulled out two things. One was an identifiable, signature hot dog from his stall. The next just looked like a bottle of mouldy ketchup. NIGHT was visibly shocked, looking away immediately when she saw the vial. Uncertain as she was of what the man was drinking, the player would really prefer to stay ignorant of it.

A glance back at the couple, when she figured Oscar's... uh... intake was done. Cordelia really looked red in the face -- though the woman was hesitant to comment on it. I feel that, she thought to herself, a mix of a smile and grimace merged together on hers.

Though, what was there for her to say? It's not like she knew the two well enough. It kinda felt like she was intruding on their private time right now... and it would stay that way if she kept thinking about it like that.

Mustering some courage, she looked to her neighbour, nodding her head over to the watchtower. "I'm assuming you're familiar with the story of the Wizard of Oz yourself, Oscar, but have you ever seen Wicked? I was just telling Cordelia about it, that's where the name of the witch might come from."

Wicked? That's a blast from the past.

Oscar had never had the pleasure of seeing the play. He'd read the book, if only because he was forced to in high school. That being said, Wicked had a bit of a special place in his heart. Back when he was a young asshole of a kid, he ruined his school's production of Wicked by patching porn star moans through the sound system instead of the music. It was a funny prank and the trouble it landed him in was worth it. Even if he became a social pariah because of it. Boy, that one had been hard to live down. He cracked a slight smile and shook his head. "Can't say I've had the pleasure of seeing it, NIGHT. I should probably fix that as soon as we get out of here."

And speaking of Wicked...

A maniacal cackling filled the air. Oscar looked skyward to see a green-skinned hag descending from on high upon her broom. The Witch they were here to slay, no doubt. Oscar readied Chaos Eater and rushed in the moment her feet touched the ground. His blitz resulted in a critical hit off of Screw Dimension, dealing extra damage and inflicting The Witch with Bleed. He hopped back, hoping to give NIGHT and Cordelia the room they needed to land their hits as well. He was surprised to see how little damage he actually did. The Witch looked lanky but she had a metric ton of Mitigation, clearly. But with three people, that would hardly matter.

What was so cool about watching a girl with a dog a bunch of hooligans? Cordelia sighed and shook her head. She honestly didn't know. Maybe she herself was just an oddball.

Cordelia deadpanned when she heard the shrill laughter of the witch. Seriously? People would pay to watch that?

She sighed and shook her head. Maybe she wasn't the weird one?

Once Oscar had finished his attack, she darted forward, giving the Witch no time to react to her attack by swinging her katana back for a heartbeat before she shot it forward. The blade tore through the oddly thin body of the mob, creating a deep gash along her abdomen. She looked up at the mobs HP bar and bit her lip. Damn, she had forgotten about the mitigation. She hadn't expected it to be so high. . . no wonder why both her and Oscar's attack did so little damage.

Guess she was the only avid musical watcher here. "Fair enough." NIGHT shrugged, resigning herself to the outcome of her queries. At least she gave the question another shot.

A laughter from their target breaking the conversation apart, the witch it belonged to lowering herself to the ground. Already? I barely had time to recover.

The two other players readied their weapons, Oscar moving first, stepping in with a strike powerful enough to leave a gash on their victim's skin. Cordelia followed up on her partner's attack, slicing at the witch's belly.

And then a third slash followed. One swing doused in red was all NIGHT needed to get off Galaxy Destroyer. The art ripped at the witch's form, sending a wave of wind powerful enough for the ends of her black dress to dance aflutter, and the straw of her broom shaking, fraying.

With her health in the critical, she took a swig of a vial, before striking at Oscar, barely missing him by a hair.

@Oscar

Cordelia and NIGHT successfully landed their hits. After dodging the incoming attack, Oscar was set to finish the fight. All it would take was one more attack and the fight would be over. All the pressure was upon him. And he felt it. Because of that, Oscar rushed in and immediately tripped over a rock. He fell flat on his face. With a groan, Oscar rose to his feet again and looked back at his companions. "Please don't tell anyone you guys saw that." Oscar rubbed the back of his head. This was exceptionally embarrassing. He didn't know how he would be able to live down his shame. He would try, but in the back of his mind he would always recall the time he had the opportunity to kill a witch and completely fell smack on his face. Truly this mistake would haunt his nightmares. In his dreams we would recall this day. The day of his greatest shame.

Cordelia sighed in relief when she watched the Witch whizz by Oscar only to miss him by a cinch.

Well, this quest took a bit longer than what she would’ve liked, but she was sort of okay with it. . . sort of.

She was about ready to sheathe her katana when she saw Oscar start to go after the witch again, knowing that his attack could probably send her back to wherever the hell she came from. Though, she quickly lost that thought when she watched him drop on his face. Well, this was an odd sense of deja vu, but the other way around?

She stifled a small laugh as she walked over to him and reached up to ruffle his hair. “Don’t sweat it, honey. Sometimes it be like that,” she teased, grinning at him childishly before she looked back at the witch.

Yeah. . . she should have enough gas in the tank to kill that thing. . . Hopefully.

After kicking away the rock that ended Oscar’s life, she dashed towards the witch, her katana by her side as she charged up a San Ge.

Her katana sliced through the witch, earning a really, really weird scream from her before she disappeared into the air, leaving red shards after her.
