[SP|F4] <<Training Your Friend>> Practice

Recommended Posts

The bluehead got up, as the pangolin jumped off, beginning to make his way towards the same tree. Oh, the amount of abuse this poor spruce was in for couldn't be humanly described. The worse their luck getting the familiar to train, the more they'd go at it until it eventually learned. "Try to pay close attention and copy me with your tail. Your tail.", he repeated, taking one hand off his hilt and pointing at the scaled creature's tail. It looked behind it, getting the signal and looking back at him. With a quick nod, he began to take a stance.

He planted his legs into the ground strongly, channelling all of his strength into his arms and lowering his sword from the opposite side of where Blizz was, turning it so its flat was parallel to the tree. With that, he heaved and slammed it right into the spruce, causing for a loud bonk to echo in the nearby area before looking at his familiar. "Try it yourself now."

Blizz slowly made his way towards the tree while Chase walked back away from it, standing in front of it on his two hind legs and looking behind it at its tail once more. It almost took a stance similar to Chase, before jumping towards the tree's direction and letting out another croak while it turned mid-air, trying to attack with the upper side of its tail. It was exactly mimicking the same movements Chase was making once more, and that hadn't worked out before, but... This was a much simpler attack than using its claws to slash, probably.

Sadly, it wasn't able to aim properly and ended up overreaching its attack, missing and dropping on the snow on its back with a bubble-like sound coming from its mouth. Chase frowned and went over, helping it turn itself on the snow normally so it was on its hind legs again, petting its head quietly with a smile. "It's alright, don't worry."

Seeing how much time had passed, an idea came to mind from just when Chase had met his familiar. With a wide grin on his face, the boy decided that since they were this far out and on the outskirts of the forest, perhaps the two could 'relive a memory' of sorts. With a smirk on his face, he began to look around for a treasure chest, knowing fully well just how rewarding they could be for relatively little effort. The loot was oftentimes greater than that of monsters, but only at the cost of giving a quick look around and hoping for the best.

And then it appeared, a treasure chest just a bit further away. Maybe the spruce would be lucky and get forgotten as the two marched towards it excitedly, stopping right in front of it. With a grin, the two exchanged a glance with one another before the boy nodded and averted his gaze to the chest once more.

Taking a deep breath, the boy held his sword so that the back of its hilt was facing the keylock. "Even if it's just the second time, slamming the chest open like this feels pretty great, right? W-Wait, I'm starting to sound like a thief... Fuck.", he mumbled on his own and let out a sigh, pulling his sword a bit further back before smacking the pommel onto the lockpad, knowing fully well it would get knocked off and the treasure was theirs to claim.

Although rather poor, the treasure was free nonetheless, and free money meant more bang for the two's buck. "It's not as great as last time, but that's still great nonetheless, ain't it?", he joked, picking up the loot and stashing it away before giving his familiar a quick glance. "With that little break, let's try getting back to training, yeah?", he suggested, getting up and gesturing for his companion to follow along.

As they walked back to the tree, the boy wondered about some basics. Now that he had a familiar, he'd probably have to feed it same as anything else. Then again, he wasn't sure of its diet, but there was plenty of stuff to try from. Meat, bread, veggies, there was a hefty amount of choices they could try out until they landed on the jackpot. "It'd help if I could ask anyone that knows about these... W-Wait, I can ask Shay considering she lives in this floor, so she must have seen plenty of these before! Or maybe the cook I buy all the food from, they'll have familiar food, right~? W-Wait, is it a separate category or do they eat the same food as we do..?"

It didn't take that long for him to start questioning if he was even thinking the right way, and as per usual, he finally reached that point once more. He plopped down in front of the tree, taking a deep breath and looking around for materials while he tried to solve the 'problem' in his head.

"You remember how I performed the attack with the flat side of my sword, don't you?", he asked with a tilted head, unsure whether he should repeat it or not. Then again, there was nothing to lose given how much time the two had to spare, so he thought that he might as well. Getting up off the snow, he dusted himself and gripped his sword with both hands, once more turning the greatsword's flat side parallel to the tree before slamming it right in. The same loud bonk echoed, as Chase looked back with a smile at his familiar.

It seemed to be focused with great intent on the movement, trying to process what just happened before it gave a small croak and began to approach the tree itself. Taking on the same stance as before, the familiar put on a much more aggressive stare than the usual, preparing to attack by the looks of it.

Its entire body almost stiffened and its tail slowly started to swing behind its back, almost as if it was preparing to strike. It wasn't long before it jumped up, shifting its weight onto its tail and turning around to try slamming with all of its force right at the tree's bark, just as strongly as Chase did. It was reaching for way too good results, but that sort of willpower would only drive it forward, and Chase knew that all too well. It was the same for him when he started a day or two ago, too. Only effort brought him this far.

Some more chips of the tree flew away as Chase clapped his hands, filled with excitement at the successful attempt. It took less tries than the previous move, and this time it appeared to have mastered its feel for weighing its body properly as well. "That's great, you did it again Blizz!"

"Is there any other move that you know how to use? We can try making a combination attack so I can hit harder with your assistance.", he asked his familiar, smiling widely and even forgetting for a moment that he probably had no idea what he was trying to ask it. Realising that he'd have to relay this to it somehow, he tried coming up with ways to gesture it to try helping him out. He looked down at the blade he was still holding tightly with his other hand, biting his lower lip and brainstorming as much as possible.

Right after that, an idea came to mind. It's not as if Blizz didn't have some form of intelligence of his own, plus, it had battled a bit by the looks of it. That, or battles came out as instinct in his case, but regardless of which of the two it was, there was a workaround.

The only question left to ponder about momentarily was how he'd exactly set it up. With an eyebrow cocked, the bluehead got an answer for that little issue as well. "S-So maybe if...", he mumbled, his voice drowning out as he lowered his tone more and more, raising his sword in front of him. He made sure not to make contact with the pangolin as he lowered it to the ground slowly, holding it right in front of his familiar. The familiar eventually hopped onto it, but that wasn't exactly what the boy was hoping for.

"N-No, um... You won't be able to always slash at an enemy or hit them with your tail, so we'll need something for ranged support too. You're almost made out of ice, you have some sort of ability to help out, right?", he asked with an awkward smile on his face, uncertain himself as he hoped for the best out of the little fellow resting on the flat of his sword.

The pangolin saw how he was making no move to attack whatsoever and decided to get off, although it was still confused on what it had to do. Once it got off, Chase slashed at the tree with his sword once, seeing if that would help ring any bells. The pangolin however just mimicked him and walked towards the tree, slashing for itself which got a deep sigh out of him. "Well, if it's just going to copy me... W-Wait, copy me? I get it!", he muttered as an idea came to mind, turning to the side to look at his little friend.

He was going to run a little test, seeing as it tried doing everything the exact same way he did. After inhaling a bit of air, the boy blew it all out in front of himself, hoping that the familiar would once more mimic his behavior to a tee.

To his surprise, Blizz did exactly that and blew out cold air, with few shards of ice coming out. Unlike the swordsman however, its breath was cold, just as cold as the ice itself was. He could tell by keeping his hand relatively close but out of the way, just in case that counted as an attack from the monster. So the idea that came to mind was that if it could fire projectiles in the form of small shards, it could perhaps coat the boy's blade with the same, frigid air and give it a thin layer of ice.

Although he wasn't too certain what that would accomplish, it was a way to boost his damage up just slightly, hopefully at least, while keeping the familiar as close to him as possible. Hell, like this he'd never have to put the little guy in trouble to begin with. That was a good enough accomplishment on its own, if it worked of course.

With a deep inhale once more, the boy kneeled and lowered himself to just above his blade, gesturing for his familiar to approach him. Once he was here, the boy let out his breath on the blade. The pangolin seemed to get the clue as it breathed out on the blade as well, causing small shards of ice to form here and there on it. If all went well, a very thin layer would form over the blade, sharpening it just slightly, even if temporarily. It could last a single strike for all he cared, as long as it worked, it was another move to add to their arsenal.

But... It didn't work. At least not this time, as the pangolin stopped breathing out air, either running out of breath or missing what the point of this practice, so to call it, was. "N-No, keep going, I just ran out of breath. You were onto something, really.", he told Blizz, trying to encourage him.

It seemed to fly right by though, as the pangolin dropped on its back and plopped onto the snow, keeping its hands in front of him and looking at its owner with its head tilting slightly out of curiosity. The boy pierced the ground with his sword, keeping it there and resting momentarily as he plopped right in front of his friend as well, looking at him with a glance just as curious. "I really should find a way to talk with you or at least some 'commands' I can teach you. It's hard to understand me, isn't it?"

He mumbled with a somewhat bittersweet smile, trying to imagine what it would be like to be in his position. Blizz probably knew he liked Chase, enough to be willing to follow him around like that, but he couldn't understand that much of what he said at the same time. It had to be an awkward predicament, for sure.

"Well... No matter, we'll work around it somehow, I'm sure. Let's give it another try, okay Blizz?", he cleaned his head of such thoughts and simply gave a smile, taking his blade out of the ground and holding it in front of him as he took a deep breath before exhaling on it again. He tried to show the pangolin what he wanted him to do, just so that he could have an idea of how to use the move he wanted him to. The boy was cautious at first, but now he was certain that this could work if Blizz tried hard enough.

It was all a matter of getting him to keep going until his attempt was a success. Ice had already formed before, in small shards all over the blade, so that meant it could coat it just as easily too, should the scaled familiar try its absolute hardest and give it everything it's got- hopefully, it wouldn't need to get that stressed to perform the move later on though.

No matter how quick his friend was to jump at trying to imitate him, the boy could tell that something was keeping Blizz from doing so- probably a cooldown of sorts. With that, he decided to give the familiar some time just as he had every other attempt at learning a move, deciding to make the most of it by looking around for any materials that could be laying around.

Seeing something just a bit further away, the bluenette placed his sword on top of the snow and crawled on over, picking the material up to see it was a chunk of ice with a few gems trapped inside. With a grin, he just thought of what a beautiful jewel he could make out of it, if he got his profession's possibilities and all down properly. "Maybe one of these days, huh?", he thought to himself quietly, having practiced his artisan profession just a bit since acquiring it, unlike plenty others.

"Anyway, I shouldn't get too distracted... It's almost time, I think. It always took two or three minutes for Blizz to get back in shape for another attempt before, so it might as well be any moment now. I wonder what's going through his head though, hm..?", he quickly questioned before turning to look at the familiar again, which was still seated onto the ground silently, seeming to enjoy himself as he looked at Chase. All the while, he was shovelling snow behind him and making a small hole with his tail, not really seeming to need to look behind himself to do so.

He was cute in more ways than Chase could bother, and even possibly try, to describe. "Are you feeling ready champ?", the boy joked before cringing at how much he began to sound like an uncle, shivering and letting out a sigh. "L-Let's just give this another try, okay?"

The pangolin nodded at him, but it became hard for the swordsman to even tell when it was actually trying to communicate with him and when the familiar was fully imitating him in hopes of getting a laugh or whatever else went through its head. "Alright, so. Look at what I do and do the same. I believe in you, but, keep going for longer than I do.", he instructed, picking his blade up once more in his hands, careful not to cut himself or bring it into contact with anything else as he took a deep breath and exhaled onto it, the steam coming out of his mouth touching onto the sword before disappearing into the air.

Rather than trying, this time the companion simply observed carefully, making no attempt whatsoever. That felt like a punch in the gut for the boy, getting a deep sigh of disappointment out of him. "D-Don't let up, c'mon, it's hard for Blizz to understand you as is..."

The boy signalled his little friend to stay behind and give it some rest, as he stepped further ahead. He had already heard the roaming beast, but as soon as the wolf pounced out of the leafage, it became obvious they were being preyed on all along. With a grin on his face, the male lifted his sword and ran at the monster, only to lower it when approaching in an attempt to slam the pommel right down on its head and have it seeing stars as quickly as possible. "Stalking us, were you?!", he laughed while his movement came to an end, smiling widely.

What used to be a scary experience just became more fun as time went on and the bluehead got a better hang of things, stunning the monster successfully and attempting to use his combo once more, although with no misses in between this time.

Quickly shifting his stance, he exerted much of his weight onto his legs, bolstering his balance and moving his blade just barely above the snow before trying to slash his enemy in half, in an attempt to prevent the wolf from attacking first or getting any room to dodge. He'd repeated the same combination of sword arts over and over, but due to trying it in this snowy floor every other time, it hadn't worked as well as he'd have liked it to.

For once though, everything went as smooth as planned. Before the boy had any time to think if he'd missed or not, the blip sounded and a laugh came out of his mouth as he sheathed his blade almost instantly to look at the loot window, filled with excitement. "Come on, what did I get?!", he childishly cried out, reading the tab with a smile on his face.

He let out a low "Yes!" and pumped his fist into the air once he'd confirmed the window, coming back to his familiar whilst whistling and even throwing his head left and right out of happiness. Even in the snow, where his familiar performed much better than he ever could, the boy was managing to get his combos down right and effectively take out enemies. He hadn't once taken a hit this time around, unlike when looking for a familiar, but that was only to show just how used he was probably growing to the white-covered flooring.

It wasn't the most convenient and would probably just rarely happen to be around when he wasn't on the fourth floor, by the looks of it, but it was always good to get used to every single possible condition. This also meant that eventually, he should get used to fighting in the sand which could prove like a bit of a trouble, but...
