[PP-F02] <<Breaking the Unbreakable>> Eye of the Tiger

To whom are interested. Need a real tough dude to help me break this boulder. Audiences allowed.

Floor 2, noon, coords attached.

Finally, the time had arrived, and his message received some bites. He peeked his head through the corridor and called out to Maris, a petite, silver haired girl. She was sprawled out on a cushion in the living room, toying with an array of watercolor. He rapped on the wooden wall and beckoned her attention. "I'm headin' out now! Won't be back for lunch, you guys go on without me, kay?" He shot a thumbs up at the silver haired girl, about several years younger than him. He assumed the role of big brother, looking after the younger alongside his best friend. The trio were the remnants of what once was a guild, now family. They'd corralled together enough to afford a tiny, cramped up house. It was evident that the area was ran by listless youngins, clutter flung amok.

He fished for the torn loaf in his pocket and stuffed his mouth. Now onward, for the trek to the summit.

Vera lounged on the patio of a hole-in-the-wall smoothie shop. For the past few days, she'd all but taken residence beneath the awning. A concoction of tropical flavors melted with soothing harmony. Tropical Twist, aptly named, for the blend of flavors she could not put a finger on. The woman hummed and swiped up her HUD. A snack and a quick perusal of her menus was the routine, it kept her informed of activities and opportunities. One in particular had struck her fancy. She skimmed the details and noted "audience". She'd heard tales of the infamous boulder quest, of those whose knuckles went bloody trying to beat the thing down solo. She wouldn't lie and say she was actually interested in that labor, but with parties came room for one straggler. She could squeeze in some skill points with little to no effort. She cracked her knuckles and conjured up a reply.

Smoothie downed, she made her way to the summit.

Opening the menu Val was able to take a quick glance at the clock. He was doing intensive early morning training on his spear technique, he still needed time to eat before heading to the destination. Val was unsure if he could be any type of help when it came to smashing the boulder with his fist. He had an easier time when it came to using his spear and was a bit unsure about how the system viewed bare handed based attacks. Still he was going if anything to make sure Hael was okay. The guy was his only friend at the moment and Val wanted to make sure he did not shatter.

The trek up the hill to the determined location was not hard. As usual Val was one of the first people to arrive. He did not want to start hitting the rock in case it messed  up the game plan. He stood off to the side his spear right next to him. Val knew better than to leave himself open to attack in a mountain. Who knew what kind of monsters could show.

He yawned slightly at the beginning of the day and was outside working on a garden. He had picked up information on how to garden from the info brokers. He had business on the second floor and wouldn’t you know it? The message popped up stating that there was some help that would be needed for a boulder. A sigh was given as he pulled his garb to leave. “Haine! I’m off to help someone to unlock martial arts.” He would yawn slightly before heading out the door. He would have to pick up more items in the second floor where the would be seeds. Perhaps he could find a toy for Asmura.

He jogged slightly toward the teleport crystal and looked over at the selection. It was a split second later and he was already on the second floor. He knew where to go immediately as stretched walking to the summit. He looked over slightly at the name counter and looked at the people hoping it was them.

Hael approached the hut on top of the summit, ushered in by an NPC man. He wore a simple, earth colored garb, extoling of some nonsensical rite of passage that was martial arts. Hael could have easily gone for another weapon, but something about martial arts was intriguing to him. Never in his life could he be so strong and agile, his only means of living vicariously through the dream was through this path. An impulse buy left him with a pair of unfunctional hand wraps. He could put them to use after all of this was over with. Just before he left, the man dipped his hands in a solution of red paste, holding it up to the pale boy's face. Warrior markings, as they call it. Hael cringed his head back, before reluctantly accepting the mark. Little whiskers painted his cheeks. He walked outside, far away from the NPC before he flipped open his mirror. He looked like a child with carnival paint all over his face. He flushed a fire hydrant red and attempted to wipe off the excess, however the material was made of something permanent.

Well shit.

He spent the next few minutes, absently rubbing at the patch on his face. Nothing could get it off. He chalked it up to a test of determination. Defeat the boulder, and get rid of it. He was too absorbed in his own task to notice a few figures trekking up to the summit.

Vera hummed a soft tune and rounded the corner of the plaza. The weather was cool as always in the beginning settlements, a picture perfect utopia. Players and NPC alike assumed their tasks, Urbus bustling as always. She rounded the corner and went rigid once she passed an all-too-familiar apple cart. The vendor stared the cloaked figure down, seemingly oblivious to whom the other was. Vera, as the thieving woman she was, raided a few apples off the cart for sustenance. It was an act of desperation, to which she weighed the odds of trouble slim to none. She scrunched her nose at the memory of a tattling player.

Thus, the trek to the summit began, a peaceful stroll. She noted that as the path winded up the mountain, the further the road inclined. She peeked down from the edge, stomach somersaulting at the image of the ground many feet below. A drop from this height could spell certain death. She swallowed thickly and glued herself to the inner wall. She ignored the burning sensation of her thighs as she advanced upward.

At the top of the summit lied a boy, mousy brown hair and whiskers on his face. He seemed distressed, scratching at the markings on his cheeks. She quirked a brow and observed from afar. Oh. Was that lanky boy the party leader?

She snorted and approached the figure. "Your audience, as requested." She propped a hand on her hip.

Val was prudently staying silent in the shadow by the rock. The shadow did nothing because it was not like he tanned while he was playing the game, he just stood in shade out of pure habit. Val was standing and not hiding, maybe the people noticed him, maybe they did not. The only person he did not know was the woman that just showed up, the other was his friend Hael. The man looked different but Val was unable to tell what it was. Still he did not bother to speak until he was spoken to. If he was silent and just had to watch the entire time he would do that.

The girl was given a once over by Val and his stony face. He did not see her as having the gear or looks of a front line player. She looked like the pretty type that guys would go for. He could tolerate her presence as long as she did not attack.

Body moved across the area and soon met the people who needed assistance. He would have to sooner or later turn this notification off but that was okay if it was a guild member. These were people hadn’t met before. No one was here that he knew of. They all carried the insignia of his guild but that was enough. He glanced at the three he could see and then finally at the boulder. He took his garb off and flexed his hands a bit. He looked at everyone for a moment and then noticed the markings of the one who asked for help. “You asked for help.”

He set the garb aside watched the three. Perhaps they were here to witness? They didn’t seem like they were friends but it didn’t matter. As long as they didn’t cause trouble with the guild, he’d be fine with the three of them. “Are you all here to watch or…?”

The first arrival was a petite redhead. A little girl? Definitely not the tough guy he called for. She was adorable, like his pseudo sister Maris. He parted his lips to speak, until she beat him to the chase. Her tone was rich and naturally deeper, definitely one that belonged to a woman. He furrowed a brow in confusion. "U-uh, glad you made it. You're in my moral support squad, I gueess?" He gave her a once over. Her demeanor seemed aloof, judging from the blank expression on her face and the way she folded her arms against her chest. Hopefully she wouldn't be the token party pooper.

He whistled, turning his head towards the gigantic boulder beyond. Something moved in the shadows, a silver haired figure that he could not distinguish from the shadows. "Hey! Are you the kickass-" he moved closer, however something else distracted him. Yet another figure appeared. Brown locks whipped around to a man, decked to the nines in expensive battle garb. He could see from the sheer stockiness of his arms that he had serious muscle.

Bingo, that was the dude.

"Yeah, that'll be me. I'm gonna fight with you too. - Actually, why don't we all pitch in for the experience?" He brought forth a good point. Even a small hit on the boulder could reap them some benefit for their efforts.

The redhead tilted her head as an unspoken confirmation. "That I am. I think you'd need the luck." She smiled, however it was one that didn't reach her eyes. She approached a tree nearing the boulder and leaned against it. Arms folded against her chest, she zoned off. Her gaze fixed on nothing in particular as she hummed a soft tune.

In due time, the rest of the party showed up. She'd only noticed one man, with bright silver hair and an ornate garb. He'd given the impression of a seasoned player, confidence in his gait. Her interest piqued and she pushed herself off the tree. He was straight to the point. "After this dude," she cut in, with a look over her shoulder. She noticed the brunette addressing a rock and furrowed her brows, until she'd noticed a figure among the shadows. She jumped slightly and observed him from a distance.

Meanwhile, the party leader was fired up, making his way towards the great boulder. He was performing some sort of warmout routine, cracking his knuckles and stretching. He performed some bizarre display of a martial arts routine. She covered her mouth and stifled a snort in order to remain polite.

His face may have been carved out of stone, but Valentine had a heart that was running. The newcomer that was the first to addressed him looked very familiar. It just took him a second to think about why he was so familiar till he recognized the player. It was a fellow guildmate that was described as one of the sexiest people in the guild. Valentine cared enough about hot guys to at least be able to recall them. If his face was not enough reason to recall the man, than his skills were he was a titled player. Any player with a title could be considered someone of note.

Valentine had to stifle the urge to call the man sempai. He stood up and walked closer towards the group ready to start hitting at the rock. He unequipped and stored his spear as he did not want to accidently invalidate his friends quest.

"Ready."

He simply looked at the three and nodded at their confirmation of striking the boulder. So many have done this quest and it seemed only natural that he would be called upon to do this. Good thing only members could call him. He introduced himself fairly to the three of them. “My name is Kiluia. Captain of the Provision Squad. Just call me Kil, though. Everyone else does.” He offered a friendly smile before looking at the three.

After the introductions were over, he hopped to it. Left hand touched the smooth boulder and every time he would search for the place where he struck it for the first time. This had been a long time ago as he exhaled once. His stance lowered a bit before he took another inhale and the next exhale was followed with brute force of his right palm against the boulder. It shuddered under the pressure and cracked instantly from his first strike.

When it was done, he moved away for the other three to go ahead and take their turn. “ This shouldn’t take too long.”

The shadowed figure revealed itself as Valentine. Honey eyes went bright in recognition of the only person familiar in this group. "Oh, hey!" He waved at him. It was impolite to ignore his captain, so he moved forward to him. "Alright, Kil! I like your style." A boyish grin overtook his features. "Show me what you've got." A bold word coming from him, but a jest in all good fun. He looked over his shoulder at the stoic woman, her name tag reading Vera. She toyed with the hem of her sleeve, seemingly aloof. Something about her aura seemed intimidating, he would want to stay in her good graces. So, he didn't bother chatting her up some more.

Kiluia went in for the rock, with a degree of finesse that only a trained player could harness. He gaped in awe. "Woah, how'd ya do that arm thing? Lemme try." He approached the boulder and cracked his knuckles. He gathered all his might into one hit, only to swing at the air. "Seriously? So anticlimactic."

He bounced back again, however, with an impact.

"Yessir," Vera shot back, with a polite nod. She knew better than to show authority anything less than reverence. She turned to face the others, namely the stone faced man emerging from the shadows. He didn't speak much by far. She gave him a quick glance before heading over to the boulder to prepare for a strike. She watched the captain strike with the prowess worthy of his title. His form was as fluid as waves, yet as forceful as a slamming brick. He cracked through almost half of the boulder in one resounding strike. She feared his full power.

Then there came the boy, bumbling and fired up to demonstrate his own techniques. He missed the rock by a hair, tripping on the laces of his boots. He was interesting to watch at play, like an in-person sitcom. As for her, she decided to pitch in. She was by no means versed at punching things. Her poison was and would always be the blade. Nonetheless, she produced a fist that slammed the rock, but all the force in her petite form could do nothing of significant impact.

An ire built up within her, one which drove her to pummel the rock with a hidden boost of power.

Valentine gave the rock a once over. He could have gone to punch it but figured the other three were handling it just fine. He was here for moral support and to watch Hael's back. It did not actually require him to punch the boulder, he had no interest in learning the martial arts skill. If he had to fight without a spear in hand then he would count it as his lost.

"I am unnecessary. I am going off to the side here. I need materials and the rocks in this area may hold some decent ones to use." He spoke to let the people know what he was doing. He could have walked off but he did not want to be rude to Hael and Sempai.

He walked to a spot that kept the rock within sight and had a small hollow that looked like a decent forging spot. Valentine placed his hand in and came out with a sparkling crystal. He was already finding what he needed.

He gave a clap to the two who struck the boulder. Valentine basically gave his explanation in regards tow hat he was doing. He was okay with him watching. He smiled slightly and spoke. “Its okay if you don’t want to go ahead and strike it. Finding the materials is fine.” He slowly looked at the two once more and smiled. He looked at Vera and then back at Hael. He believed he was the leader of the party so he would shrug slightly. Hands would rub together before he stared at the boulder. It was his time around again.

He took a breath and closed his eyes. He wished he was at full power. He took a deep breath once more and unleashed a horrific punch unto the boulder. It shuddered even more from the force of his power. He stared at the once more at the rest of the group and flee his right hand once more.

"Bye bud!" Hael shot a thumbs up to Val and returned to the rock. The woman, as petite as she was, managed to strike hard enough for the rock to register. He stared in mild amusement and carried on to his task. Kiluia, with a single, effortless strike, sent a chunk of rubble falling down their way. The boy dodged out of range and whistled. "Nice one, cap. Teach me that trick when this is over with." He beamed, however the markings on his face served to make his smile more squirrel-like with the swirls enhancing his smile.

The boulder was decimated to two measly HP. "C'mon Hael, you got this," he mumbled under his breath. He grounded his feet into the soil, concentrated all his power into a punch, and sent a small pebble rolling off the mass. The strike managed to register. "Hey, I did it!" He turned back to the pretty lady. "Think you can finish it off?"

The redhead observed the peppy brunette in his element. He reminded her of a squirrel with his jumpy disposition, here and there at any given moment. He bounced from heel to heel, hyping himself up for a hit. Well, she supposed, he could hold his stamina fairly well. Would serve useful in martial arts, with the fast pace natural to it. He performed some mock display of karate, with the flexibility of a metal rod. It was rigid, but she could give him the benefit of the doubt.

The boulder was reduced to a pile of rubble, on the vestiges of its health. The others looked back to her and her shoulders went stiff. Was it her responsibility to deliver the last hit? She sighed softly and grounded her feet in the soil. She moved forward to pummel it, only to trip on a rock and fall over on the rock. Palms pressed against the stone for purchase.

Looking for things could become pretty therapeutic for the people that knew how to find them. The materials search should have been boring but it was straight forward enough for Val to like it. He did not spend a lot of time doing it as he felt tremors. If the tremors were able to draw creatures over for an attack he should be where the fighting was. He stuck his hand in one last crevice to check for stones. When he did not find  one he decided to go back.

Valentine made it in time to see the girl deal a devastating blow to the rock. It was on its last dregs as she went to attack it. Valentine spoke up to reiterate a point. "Hael should be the one to deliver the blow. It is his quest and we want to make sure we succeed." It was more of a recommendation as he currently could not make anyone do anything. As soon as the quest ended he was already going to leave with the others.

Seeing the other two work hard on breaking the boulder, he noticed how Valentine kept to himself and looked for materials. It was good to collect but not that it mattered. Hand would reach out and strike the remaining cluster or rock away from them. It was to ensure the destruction of the quest and soon it faded into millions of crystal particles and then back into its lovely shape. After the destruction, he glanced over at the two. “Good job. Well fought.” He smiled and clapped at them.

He would have to remind that skipping a turn in real combat could be deadly if the monster had a way to act. He would have to teach them when they got back to the guild Hall. Lots of dangerous things in this world but none more than the player themselves if they weren’t properly trained or taken care of. “Wrap up the quest and we can all it.”
