[F1-PP] Back to the Classroom <The Second Lesson>

Recommended Posts

Rebekah had just spent a lot of time with her older brother the last few weeks, trying to get him ready for some up and coming difficult quests. However, this had come as a surprised today, when she had received a message this morning. He had wanted her to join him and watch him take his second lesson quest.

The pink hair girl had nothing better to do and therefore decided it would be in her best interest to join. After all, Rebekah knew that Nicklaus wanted to show off his brand new skills since the last time they had done a quest together. Perhaps, this would allow the two of them to take the third and final part of this quest, which Rebekah had not attempted as of yet. This would be a very good idea. Rebekah also knew that she could also spend this time to aim for the next level of foraging given she was almost there.

She despised that the fact that she had lost to Nicklaus last time in first lessons in where he had easily beaten her to the magical number of five materials. She would have to show off her brand new skills today. Therefore, it would be important for them to ensure that everything was being done correctly.

Rebekah put on an outfit and decided to call Snowball today to join them. Her owl was happy that he was finally leaving the indoors and going on a quest with Rebekah. After all, Rebekah had left Snowball on the last two quests and her owl was very excited to get out of the apartment that she had rented up on the fourth floor. Rebekah also knew that one day, she would have to aim to upgrade into a better house. Right now, she had a decision to make, better house or better weapons. She was nowhere near either option at the moment.

Ever since Rebekah's recommendation last time, Nicklaus had spent the last few days reading Agro's guidebook for beginner at a rapid pace. In addition, he had spent the time to take notes to understand what was going on. As a result, he knew that there were a few easy quests that he should take on now that he had the time. Therefore, he decided to begin with this first quest on the first floor, and begin to work his way through some of the more difficult challenges out there.

Rebekah was right that that the last quest was amazing but she had left out some of the other ones. Therefore, it was his job to point it out to her younger sister and have her join him on these adventures. He needed the experience, and therefore, it was paramount that this would work well. Since he had requested a meeting time in the late morning. This was going give him time to change into something more comfortable, and most importantly find some breakfast to eat early in the morning.

If they had extra time left over, he would love to try out his brand new fishing skill out in the lake or river on the first floor. He was sure Rebekah would agree to do this, as it would give her some much needed time on to continue foraging. He was many levels behind her sister but he knew his role for the next while would be to help her out as much as possible.

Nicklaus finally got out of his hotel room and made his way towards the teleportation gate in the town of beginnings. He was ready for the moment that her sister would be here. The guidebook did mention this was a rather easy quest. It would not be too difficult for him as he was already quite powerful for to challenge this quest today.

As soon as Rebekah made it to the teleportation gate on the first floor, Nicklaus was already as usual waiting for him. She walked over towards him with her owl. Both of them exchanged their standard greetings. Nicklaus and Snowball were not fighting for once. This was very strange and odd. Rebekah knew that this was the first time that this had happened. She decided to let Nicklaus take the lead for today, since it was him who had recommended that he should be taking on this quest.

The next important question was breakfast. Rebekah had not ate anything yet this morning and was starting to feel hungry. On the contrary, Nicklaus for once, had ate and showed up before she did. Rebekah had been spending time putting on makeup prior to their departure and finding the perfect outfit. That had caused the delays.

Therefore, Rebekah recommended that she will go pick up some food on their way towards Lyle's shop, who was the person responsible for administrating this quest towards the players. It had been sometime since her last visit to this blacksmith's shop. Rebekah knew where the shop was, and began walking with Nicklaus.

It did not take long for Rebekah to find a cafe for her to quickly purchase coffee and some breakfast. She decided to get some avocado toast, which she could eat while Nicklaus was speaking to Lyle about the requirement of the quest. It was not a hearty breakfast, but it would have to do given that they would be running late if they had a sit down meal.

It had not take them very long to Lyle's shop thanks to the navigation skills of Rebekah who had done this quest before. For Nicklaus, this was his first time. Therefore, it was a lot harder for him even though he had lived in this settlement during his downtime. It was just too big, but her sister was able to navigate them while picking up a decent breakfast along the way. He could smell the food that she had decided to buy today. It smells delicious.

There was only one problem right now, he needed to speak with the busy blacksmith in the gloomy dark shop. "Can I get some help?" Nicklaus asked. He did not have enough for payment to buy any of the expensive weapons outright. This was going to be a problem.

It was at this point, Nicklaus had heard the reply, "I do not do charity. However, if you are able to collect some boar tusks, perhaps we can make a deal." Lyle had responded. With those words spoken, Nicklaus knew that he would have to go out in the wild. He could see his quest journal update with new information. It was at this point, he responded to his sister, "Let's go and search for some boars to kill."

With those words spoken, they were now on their way out of the shop and heading out of the town of new beginnings. It will not take long but hopefully, they will arrive at their destination, which is the great plains where many boars can be found.

Rebekah had finished munching on her avocado toast as Nicklaus had spoke with Lyle. Lyle was just as she had remembered, rude and direct, right to the point. He was not one to socialize and wanted players out of there in a hurry. Therefore, Rebekah now lead Nicklaus towards to the great plains where the boars can be found right outside of the city. This was going to be important as she was unable to assist Nicklaus in any manner with respect to killing the boars. Therefore, it would be up to him to deal with this situation. All she could do is watch.

At least, Nicklaus had tried an experience a few days ago, where he was able to strike the minotaur in the labyrinth. Therefore, she had seen him in battle and is confident in his abilities to succeed today against some weaker boars. The monsters that her older brother will fight are a lot weaker than last week, so it would not be as difficult for him. It did not take long for the pair to spot the three boarlets that Nicklaus needed to fight as part of this quest. All she hoped was that he would not have any difficulties today against these three animals.

She tried to tell him just as he loaded his sword art to use an area of effect attack instead, since he was facing against multiple monsters at once. Hopefully, Nicklaus was able to listen and activate that in time.

Rebekah had helped him by identifying the three boarlets that were nearby. Since they were grouped up together, it was time for him to strike and defeat them before they manage to get any attack against them. Nicklaus knew that it was going to be very important to be able to kill as many as the boarlets as possible. He did not want to face a situation where he would have to defend against multiple monsters trying to attack him at the same time.

Therefore, he had managed to hear Rebekah's advice. Even if she had not said anything, he would have done this regardless. After all, he had spent time learning all the attacks and sword arts he had available but he never had a reason or chance to try it out. The boarlets were weak enough, so he should be able to strike them without too much difficulty. He just need to see if he had luck on his side.

Nicklaus had struck the first two boarlets out of the three. Both of those boars had instantly died. However, the third boar was not grouped up as the other two and was out of range of his attack. The surviving third boarlet immediately charged right back at him, and hit him dealing minimal damage. Nicklaus noticed he had lost a significant amount of energy already, and may need to save up some energy before fighting again in rapid succession.

Rebekah had watched all of this play out in front of her. She was not getting into the battle since she knew that Nicklaus had to complete this all by himself. All she could do was watch from the sideline and cheer him on. It was not a surprise to her that he was only able to defeat two of the three animals in front of him. Even Rebekah had issues from time to time landing a clean strike against multiple targets, so that was to be expected.

Rebekah turned to her owl who had been perched up on her shoulder the entire time. "Snowball, you can go for a fly if you want. This might take a while for Nicklaus to resolve so you are free for a little bit of time." Rebekah said. The owl had understood immediately the words that she had spoken and began to fly in the air in a circle. Snowball still did not want to leave Rebekah's side in the wilderness today, so it was flying in a circle above them scanning for any monsters that may head their way. Luckily, none of the animals wanted to bother the pair as they could sense that Rebekah was a high level player who was very dangerous to them.

Rebekah had a reputation of slaughtering animals in the forest especially those that had gotten in her way, so animals have been known to avoid her if they do not want to have a confrontation at all. Rebekah never liked backing down and knew that she would have to show the animals that they were blocking her path.

After defeating two of the three boarlets. Nicklaus knew that there was still one boarlet left to take care of. This would be very important as he did not want the battle to drag on longer than it had needed to. Rebekah had promised that she would take him fishing before they return to Lyle with the necessary boar tusks. She knew that this quest would finish early, and he did not want to deviate from that timeline since he knew these boars were too weak to be of much threat to him.

Therefore, all he needed to do was to defeat this boarlet that was still in front of him. This time he wanted to conserve energy by attempting a basic attack. He had not tried that before, and hoped this would work. After all, all Nicklaus needed to do was to ensure that the attack was accurate enough to land.

With this strike with Nicklaus' straight sword, all three boarlets had died which was the first part of the quest. He then walked over to a special item in the ground that he had found after defeating all three animals. He had not noticed it being there before.

It was this moment that Nicklaus had defeated all three boars which meant that her older brother had finally completed the minimum requirements to complete this quest. This meant that they could now head towards the lake where he can go fishing, and where Rebekah can continue to forage for materials.

It was at this moment, that Rebekah had saw a plant nearby, and decided to walk over to inspect the plant a lot closer. It had looked like it was a special plant, It had an unique shape and colour which made it stand out on the grassy plains on the first floor. Rebekah decided to take a chance to see if the plant was special enough to collect. Perhaps it was a rare plant which can be converted to a material. All Rebekah would have to do is to try to collect it. However, the plant was not special and did not register as anything other than a vanity item. That was disappointing.

It was also at this moment, she could see something approach Nicklaus, it was a bigger mama boar. It had approached right as she had remembered doing this quest for the first time. Hopefully, Nicklaus saw it as she was too preoccupied with something else at the moment.

Nicklaus decides to pick up the glass vial of liquid. As he had it in his hands, he decides to examine the glass vial because it had looked like it was a special drop from killing the boarlets. As soon as he was about to examine the item a bit more, he could feel there was an animal staring at him. There was a giant mama boar in front of him. It had looked like it wanted to get revenge on Nicklaus for slaying her babies.

Nicklaus knew how fierce these animals could be in the wild, especially the females when they are trying to defend or protect their babies from any danger. He realized he was that danger, and there was no other choices but to fight. He knew that running away from this angry boar would not be an option. It would not stop until it had caught up with her. Therefore, this was very important for him to take care of. Rebekah was still around but busy searching for materials once again. She had trusted him to finish this quest without receiving any help.

However, Nicklaus had missed once again. This was not going well. To make matters worst, the mama boar had managed to get the first strike against him. It had hurt a little more than the boarlets own strike.

Rebekah had failed collecting that plant that she had spotted in the grassy fields. Now, her focus was entirely on Nicklaus who was unable to hit the bigger mama boar that was attacking him. She wanted to go in and help him out but knew that he needed to be able to fight this battle by himself, so he can prove to himself that he has the ability to be a good player in Aincrad. It would not be a good idea for her to jump in as that would signal to him that he was not good enough.

In her opinion, everyone needed to work through some adversary to get better. You must overcome your own personal struggles. That was a fact and Rebekah knew that this was going to be important for Nicklaus' own personal development. All she could do is to watch on the sidelines and give you encouragement to succeed. She needed to let him work out his own issues with struggling with a simple boar.

Meanwhile, Snowball was still flying around. Luckily, there were no new animals coming towards them, which meant they could leave and head towards the river or lake after this battle was over.

The mama boar was a lot tougher than the boarlets that he had previously faced. The first indicator of that was missing his own attack against a larger target. The second thing he had noticed was that the mama boar had dealt a lot more damage against him than the smaller boarlet. He was now running low on energy. He looked up and saw Rebekah watching him. She was not coming over to help, and he did not want her to come over.

Nicklaus knew that he did not want someone else including her younger sister to step in to fight this battle for him. He needed the experience and knew he needed to adapt on the fly. Since his first attack did not work, he would have to try something else to ensure he could succeed. This time instead of a slash, he should try to attack by using a stab move instead. Maybe this will work a lot better this time.

This time it had worked, the mama boar had been finally defeated. However, Nicklaus was very tried as he had used up a lot of his energy and would need some time to recover all of his missing energy. He turned to her older sister, "Let's go to a fishing/foraging spot before we head back?"

Now that they had finish the requirements of the quest, Rebekah had agreed. It was time to go out for some foraging and fishing time before they were to return to Lyle to finish the quest. It had made a lot of sense as they could head towards the stone valley nearby where there is a river inside the forest. It was not too far from here, and they could head there first instead of returning back to town of beginning and heading back out today.

It was a perfect suggestion, as Rebekah lead Nicklaus and Snowball towards their destination. It was a slow moving river, perfect for Nicklaus to fish in while Rebekah can forage for materials on the banks of the river and the surrounding area. Snowball had flew ahead to their destination and returned letting her know there were no animals nearby. This was perfect, as she was not planning on fighting anymore today. In addition, her older brother needed this rest to recover his energy as he must be low from fighting multiple battles at once.

They were almost at their destination, when Rebekah spotted a fruit tree up ahead. Perhaps she could collect an apple or two that was ripe enough and about to fall to the ground. Rebekah walked up to the tree, and had picked up multiple apples and a small bag of col. She was off to a good start already.

Rebekah had finally led him towards the fishing spot in the stone valley on the first floor. Nicklaus immediately got out a chair from his inventory, and began to cast out his fishing pole for the first time today. He wanted to get enough levels to reach level two, but knew that that may take a while. He realized he needed this experience and hopefully, he could also collect some items for him to use such as a treasure chest. That would a real treat.

As soon as he had cast his fishing pole, he knew this was going to take a while. Now as the hard part, it was a waiting game for the fish to pull. He was prepared for this wait, so he began to ask Rebekah for more advice about this game. "How long does it take for one to be strong enough to take part in boss fights on the frontline?" Nicklaus asked her younger sister.

He was looking to gain some more insight from an experience player in the game. So far, he had been focused on himself, but he knew he needed a target to strive and aim for. So far, the fish was not biting on the line.

After collecting the first apple and arrive at the river, it was now Rebekah's chance to begin foraging at their destination for today. This also would give her sometime to get set up and search the immediate surrounding areas for the rest of the morning before they had to return to the town of beginnings for Nicklaus to complete the quest. They had fulfilled all the requirements except talking to Lyle as they were taking the scenic route before returning. This would give Rebekah the chance of stocking up on materials and perhaps additional gold that she could find nearby.

Nicklaus, her older brother had asked a very important question. Rebekah responded by saying, "Well, it depends. I think the bare minimum to be eligible is to be near or at the current level cap of thirty two with a set of perfect equipment. You may be able to get a way with slightly less if you are a support player. That is because support players are not in the direct line but being at the minimum is very important given skill points are earned at every level."

That was one of the things that mattered a lot. There is a lack of skill points and the only way to gain more is to improve by leveling up. The level curve had gotten significantly harder lately, "I think you have to work twice as hard now to level." Rebekah commented to Nicklaus.

Rebekah was still setting up and therefore was unable to find any materials.

Rebekah had raised an excellent point while Nicklaus was still waiting for the fish to bite on his line. "Can you tell me more about your own skill points that you had chosen, and what would you recommend for me? What is the optimal skill order and which skill should I max out next. Which of the following skills are useless in your opinion?" Nicklaus had asked and bombarded Rebekah with a lot of questions. This will give her enough time to explain everything to him. He was also curious at Rebekah's specific set of skills and if there was anything he could do to learn from her. He had been confused since there were so much to choose from after reading the book and guide from Argo.

He had thought about other things to ask her sister, but that would have to wait. He wanted to know how long it would take for him to finally catch something at fishing. He did not have a great experience last time, but hopefully, this time it would be able to help a lot. He knew that this place was peaceful and quiet enough so they would not be distracted by other players who would wonder into this area.

It had been a while since someone had asked her for advice. Rebekah had to think about it for a few seconds. However, the skills and the skill order that one develop is dependent on what they want to do and what their role is. However, there are always some very good skills no matter the situation.

"I think there are a few skills that are universal in importance. For example, damage, battle healing and an armour skill is very important to have just for your own personal survival in this game. As I am not a tank, I know there are a few tank specific skills that will be very useful to have. However, at your level, I would put enough skill points into damage, just to be able to overpower and defeat anything you face in the early game." Rebekah explained.

That was a very important decision given that the early game is often the hardest. In the early game, players have no skills, no good items and no experience to know how to navigate around certain situations. As an experience player, Rebekah knows there are things that she could plan ahead to minimize the risk of danger. "If you can get those three skills, then I would start focusing on the other utility skills." Rebekah continued. She knew that each skill was not created equally, some are stronger than others given there is a restriction on the number of skill points available per level. It was simple economics, find the best skill with the highest benefit relative to the cost of skill points.

Nicklaus had just listened to her sister discuss three critical skills. So far, he had only maxed out the damage skill given he knew he would not be able to avoid fighting in the earlier levels. He had also heard that being able to fight is very important in any type of game like Sword Art Online. It was essential since he cannot be in a situation where he has to depend on others to fight. Even as a tank, being able to specialize in some damage early either is very helpful to any party.

"Since I have maxed out my weapon skill, which skill should I go for next?" Nicklaus asked. He knew that both battle healing and mitigation was important. However, he did not know the interaction between the two skills. He wanted to hear Rebekah continue to explain high level concepts as he continued to wait for any fish to be reeled in.

This was not a lucky place to catch anything for either of them. Rebekah has not been able to find anything since she has arrived, and he has not been able to catch any fish yet. He knew that it should not be this difficult but maybe this was an unlucky area.

This was an interesting question that had been posed by Nicklaus about the differences between the two upcoming skills that he can choose. It was a choice between battle healing and mitigation. This was a tough decision to make, however, the simplest way to explain it would be to discuss the benefits between the two skills.

"Battle healing is a lot stronger in the late game when you have a lot more health points and if you are able to max out the skill. The reason is battle healing is a percentage of your maximum health points. However, in the early game, mitigation is a lot more useful since the value is often higher than what you can regenerate with lower health points at a lower level. There is one thing to remember for mitigation is that the value depends on the type of armour that you choose to wear. Each armour type, cloth, light and heavy have their own advantages and disadvantages." Rebekah explained.

She was trying desperately to find a few more materials and gain enough experience to hit level four. Rebekah knew that she was almost there as she had been stuck at level three for what had felt like an eternity. She knew that this was the best chance she had since she had not been available recently to go out into the wilderness to forage for supplies as she would have liked.

It was at this time she had found something once again on the banks of the river. It was a rare plant which was worth quite a lot of materials and col.

Now that Rebekah was the first person to explain to him the nuisances between the two very important skills, Nicklaus knew that these were three of the most important skills to max out as early as possible. This would require at least ninety skill points, which will take him up to level eighteen to achieve this. He also knew that there were additional bonuses add on skills that he will need, so Nicklaus would have to quickly find a way to grind to gain as much experience as possible in the shortest time frame available.

There was only one question he had while Nicklaus continued to wait for his fishing line. Rebekah had already found materials twice today but each time, they were a special drop which included additional materials and col. "I notice that you have chosen heavy armour. Can you give me a reason why you believe heavy armour is better or why you chose this over the cloth or light armour options?" Nicklaus asked.

He knew that her sister must have thought about this idea a whole lot and knew there must be an answer somewhere. All he needed to do was ask. He was starting to believe that this river did not contain a lot of fish since his own fishing line should have been pulled already. There was only one way to find out, he would have to wait and see. There was not a whole lot in his control while he was fishing.

Nothing was going right today during fishing. He wondered what he was doing wrong.
