[SHOP-F4] "Lighting Darkness" [BLACKSMITHING]

Recommended Posts

Hikari's key chain jingled when she swung it to get her newly acquired key in her hand, in front of her stood a door to her new shop. After swallowing air and steeling herself, Hikari inserted the key in the lock, twisting it until it was open. The place was small but cozy, it had a nice homely feel to it. Two torches located on the sides of the door with one more on the left wall, the place was dim, but light enough to see. It didn't matter for her, she chose the name she did for a reason, Lighting the Darkness. Her main objective was to help new players get geared up, to give a bright future to the new people, help them stay alive. She cared not for aesthetics and while the shop was not fit for a girl like her, she liked it. Removing her gear, she was left in a tanktop and shorts and went to the back of the small room, where the forge stood. Heating it up, she knew it was of a high quality. She set down her anvil and hammer, letting the former rest on the floor next to the wall, a bit far from the forge, not to get her burned, while the latter was placed on top of it, waiting for its owner to start using it. Grabbing a wooden plank and some rope that was provided with the shop, Hikari, hung her new sign, reading: "Lighting Darkness" Her next order of business would be to set up the commission sheet.

Grabbing one of her nineteen iron bars, Hikari puts on the apron provided with the shop. Placing the bar into the forge, Hikari hopes to make herself a new sword, a One-Handed Straight Sword to be specific. Grabbing it with tongs due to the heat, Hikari places the now orange-glowing bar onto the anvil, grabs her hammer and selects the appearance of the sword, along with its stats. Pounding the hammer into the bar, she shapes it into a thin blade, paying special attention to its sharpness and point. The weapon should be pointy enough for her to be able to use one of her special moves and, though the weapon wasn't a rapier, it certainly qualified to be able to use it. Now finished shaping the blade, Hikari steps back and lets the iron take form.

Crafting Dice - 8 - Good Item! - +2 EXP

The weapon was nothing fancy and it lacked any inherent qualities, what it also lacked was the special touch she put on it... Deciding it would be good for selling, she put it up in display with the price: 500 Col/1 Forging Material

Trying again with another iron bar, she repeated the process, trying to give the blade a nice, dark edge...

0/2 Crafting attempts

The blade shattered into bits immediately along with its material. Disappointed but not discouraged, Hikari swept the dust generated from the pounding away from the anvil. These were her only two attempts at crafting for today so she had to wait until tomorrow to try again. A little bit sad that her first day as a smith turned out to be a bit below average, Hikari equipped her clothes again and headed out of the shop to the inn, her silver hair flowing in the wind as she closed the shop, leaving the commission slips outside in a box on top of a small table she brought out from inside.

Another day, two more attempts. Removing her gear, Hikari grabs one of the two iron bars she's going to use today and sticks it in the forge. With the intention of making armor for herself, Hikari starts deciding just what kind she wants, finally deciding on a light metal armor. Taking the now red-hot iron bar out of the forge with tongs, Hikari grabs her hammer. Setting up its stats and appearance, she pounds the hammer onto the bar, making a chest plate and a full guard for her right arm, gauntlet included with it.

What was supposed to be armor turned out to be an irreversible mess, she couldn't even salvage any materials from it. Tossing the trash where it's supposed to go, Hikari grabbed another bar and repeated the process once again, shaping the chest piece and guard while pounding on the red-hot metal.

2/2 Crafting Attempts for today

While the result was nothing special and the guard only protected her shoulder, the armor was still better than what she was wearing. Equipping it and storing her starter cloth jacket on the clothes rack by the entrance, Hikari looked at the item's stats:

Name: Light Iron Chest Guard

Type: Light Metal Armor

Quality: Good

Description: A semi-long trench coat adorned with a breastplate and a shoulder guard, provides decent protection

Abilities: none

While the armor was decent at best, it would give her a tremendous defense boost thanks to her "Light Metal Equipment" skill. Done for the day, Hikari closed the shop and headed for the inn.

Disappointed, Hikari threw away the mess of a shield and grabbed another iron bar, repeating what she'd done before step-by-step: she heated the iron until it was glowing red, upon which she grabbed it with tongs and placed it on the anvil; deciding the appearance and stats, Hikari pounded the hammer onto the bar, making a concave surface with four spikes, one on the front, and four resembling a crown on the back.

Setting her eyes upon her shield, it wasn't the most perfect shape she'd hoped, the spikes on the back were missing, giving it the appearance of a chestnut.

Name: Spiked Iron Shield

Type: Shield

Quality: Uncommon

Description: This chestnut shaped shield possesses a spike on its front which can be used to deal additional damage to an enemy.

Abilities: On a successful Crit (BD10 only), this shield inflicts an extra point of damage on the enemy

Satisfied with her new shield, Hikari stored it in her inventory, deciding she had no use for it right now, but wanted to use it later anyway.

Late at night, when the sky was pitch black and the clock rung one sole note, Hikari entered the shop, taking the opportunity for crafting as soon as possible. (OOC: It's currently 0:52 in my time so I can craft again) Lighting the torches scattered inside the shop, Hikari noticed a single sheet lying on top of her counter, her first commission, to be exact. The commissioner, a girl named Kira, wanted an uncommon curved sword, providing a picture with it. (OOC: sorry if it's wrong, it's what I got from your sig) The sword appeared pretty big, but still agile enough to be wielded, it possessed a linear hilt with a gold structure supporting the blade, a curved wide blade, extending a little bit and coming back in to meet with the support. Hikari liked this design so she decided to make a blade she could be proud to offer to her client. Grabbing an iron bar and placing it into the forge, Hikari continued reading the commission. The blade was to be named Kira's Death Blade, though Hikari doubted she could input a player's name into an item. Taking the iron from the forge with tongs, Hikari flattened it first before attempting to curve it, in order to create the wide sword Kira wanted.

Crafting Dice - 4 - Fail! - -1 mat, +1 EXP

"Damn it!" Seeing her work, Hikari could not help but feel disappointed. The weapon was a mess, it couldn't even be called a weapon as it couldn't be used for battle. The shape was there but it lacked everything else, texture, polish, even sharpness. Knowing the girl would be sad to hear it, though not being able to do anything about it, these were her only two attempts, after all, Hikari quickly sent a message to Kira, apologizing and asking her to please wait another day. Hikari did not know if one day was all it was gonna take, she was still new to forging and making good weapons was rare for her. With a sad look on her face, Hikari put on her coat, leaving the store.

Though it was the dead of night and the clock just turned to zero, Hikari couldn't help but want to craft again. Keys jingling in her hands, Hikari opened the door to the shop, lighting the torches scattered inside. She failed her last two attempts to create a sword for her client, maybe this was the day. Picking up an iron bar, Hikari repeated the previous day's process step by step, making the sword that the girl so wanted.

Crafting Dice - 10 - Uncommon! - -1 mat; +3 EXP

"Hell yeah!" Hikari shouted at the top of her lungs, on the first try of the day, she managed to make the weapon she was to call "Kira's Death Blade". Hikari knew the girl would be happy, she proceeded to check the stats of the blade:

Name: Death Blade

Type: One-handed Curved Sword

Quality: Uncommon

Description: A wide-bladed curved sword with above-average power, blade supported by a gold inlay, this weapon is sure to give anyone an edge in combat.

Abilities: +1 Damage

As she expected, the system didn't let her input a player's name into the blade, though she knew Kira would be satisfied, it was her blade, after all, Kira's Death Blade. Quickly messaging the girl about the completion of her commission, Hikari grabbed another Iron Bar, this time hoping to make herself a new hammer. Pounding the fresh-out-of-the-forge bar, Hikari shaped it into a cylindrical object with a rod protruding from below to make the handle.

Combat Dice - 9 - Good Item! - -1 mat; +2 EXP

The item she made was good, but by no means anything special. The hammer offered no bonuses and was just a little bit stronger than the one she received from the quest. Equipping her new hammer and tossing the old one into one of the chests in the shop, Hikari headed out to the inn to end her day here.

Entering the shop with bags under her eyes, Hikari noticed it was already past noon, though she woke up little more than two hours ago. It was light outside and so was the shop, due to the open window, so there was no need to light up the torches inside. Deciding to continue on trying to make herself a new hammer, Hikari grabbed an Iron Bar from her supply, setting it inside the forge to heat. The hot iron was pounded fiercely into a cylindrical shape, a wide oval grip stemming off from it.

Crafting Dice - 6 - Bad Item! - -1 mat; +1EXP

The hammer turned out not too bad, but still, it was worse than even her starter one. "I can at least salvage the materials, right?" Trying to undo the process entirely, Hikari completely destroyed the item due to her inexperience. Dumbfounded, she asked to herself: "Wait, how do I salvage materials, again?" Hikari decided to let it go unanswered for now and repeated the process she used before to make a hammer again.

The result turned out just the same as before, with Hikari once again failing to salvage her materials. Though this had failed, she noticed she needed only one point more to rank up her skill. Giving a satisfied grin if not for the experience she got, Hikari left the shop, deciding to wander around town for the rest of the day.
