[SP-F1] <<Earning a living>> (Completed)

Recommended Posts

Skylar wanted to survive. So he knows he has to become valuable, not to mention he wants to make some really cool friends. He remembered chatting to some people earlier and was told the best way to make money and such was to do quests. They were pretty friendly people, but they seemed to busy to help him at the moment, not that he particularly minded.

Still he opened his quest log and checked it out. Some quests were about collecting materials and such, others about slaying monsters. They are all very nice but how would that get him money for gear. Reading through the list a bit more he actually found one that could help. A profession quest! Of course it would be perfect. Skylar read it through before moving locations to go and accept the quest.

Skylar approached a rapidly decaying music hall in a shady part of Starting. It was empty but the quest box looked pretty good "Ah Accept" he hit the button starting his first quest. No sooner did he push it that an NPC appeared "Ah someone else coming to change their useless jobs huh." The dude was dressed very much like a 1980's hippy with tye dye outfit, guitar and everything. "Nope, I am new here and wanted this to be my profession!" He smiled at the NPC before awaiting his response.

"So you are a noooob ay" Skylar was not sure if he should be impressed or irritated at his guy. They way he said new player almost made it sound like a bad thing. "Yes I am indeed new" Skylar replied to the Non-Playing Hippie. "So basic gist is you bring me what I need blah blah blah. I give you stuff and you have a job." The nexts words was so fast Skylar almost missed them.

"5 wood, 4 twine, and 3 chalky water rocks? What the heck is a water rock!?" The panic started to get to him a bit. He understood that it may be a rock that comes from water but how was he supposed to locate that?

"You are not that smart are ya, where you are from you might have called it chalk. The primary purpose is to write some of the excess music a performer may keep in their mind. It is something I need so do not ask questions and scram!" The NPC disappeared be Skylar could get another word in. So much for all NPC's being nice and helpful right. Skylar left the dilapidated music hall to begin his journey. Wood and Twine where forest items so he figured he would head there first.

The forest seemed relatively calm, at least on the edge of it. Skylar knew better then to go deep into the forest where dangerous monsters lived. His level was not high enough to deal with to many of those right now. Instead he would learn a trait, earn money, and do various jobs to make himself stronger.

Skylar spotted a tree that looked perfect for some wood, alright first try lets go. The wood seemed perfectly normal in his hands one piece at a time until he had some perfectly good wood in his hands. "That is one piece, on to the next" he moved on to the next tree nearer to him.

While he was in the woods he might as well try to get some twine it would be a smart move after all. Skylar looked all around him the green was really pretty. The sunlight gave everything a warm feel as if the forest was calling him to come closer, to embrace the vegetation too become one with nature. It was tempting so of course he went for it and went a bit deeper into the green. The vines were  here looked extremely good perfect for twine. Reaching up he pulled down a vine and twisted it in small motions. The vine was supple and thick and held in his hands, twisting it in on itself until he had a very nice piece of twine. He skipped over to the next tree.

Skylar looked at the next tree. It honestly looked like the last tree he was just at, it smelled like the last tree, it even felt like the last tree. He reached for a near identical branch and repeated the process. The branch held and twisted properly just they way he needed it too. Pretty soon he had another piece of twine just like the first. "If I keep this up I will be done in no time"

Skylar took a break as the muggy heat was getting to him. He pulled down a vine from the same tree and began to work on it. The exhaustion started to set in and made him a bit clumsy. He missed a step and twisted the vine wrong. This one was not as strong either and it broke half way through, the twine was useless. He was going to have to restart the entire thing.

Skylar was ready this time, he was making good progress early and slowed down. Now he must pick up his pace in order to further his endeavors. With renewed enthusiasm he set about grabbing a vine from a nearby tree,he grabbed it and got ready to work. This time he was a little bit too into it, the vine snapped again causing him to restart.

Skylar had been walking for hours and it was hot the twine was being difficult right now so he moved for the wood instead. The tree was lovely it looked like a type of redwood. Skylar moved really close and noticed several details on the tree. It may not be redwood as it was actually brown, and a woodland creature of some sort put holes all in the tree. With the chances of the wood being damaged Skylar moved to another tree.

Skylar moved closer to the next tree. He used his dagger to test the wood before slowly slicing a decent sized piece off for him to use. The wood was of very high quality the problem was his skill this time. Moving his dagger back and forth to get it to a decent size he snapped it in two. There was no way he could get get a decent size piece of wood.

This quest is actually harder then it looks. Skylar moved closer to the edge of the forest where he first started it was still very green but maybe he can get is beginners luck back. He grabbed the nearest vine and tried to twine it. The vine snapped before he could twist it into a better shape. So he moved on to the next one.

Skylar was getting a little frustrated when he found a vine that looked perfect. Hopefully he could do it, his frustration was starting to get the best of him. He focused on his vine and twisted. He continued to twist the vine and made it work. It actually worked he had a perfect vine in his hand. Maybe this tree has an extra vine he could use.

Skylar moved to grab another vine in the tree. This vine was a bit of a stretch but he was able to climb up and get it. Moving similarly to the other vines he made. As soon as  he grabbed it the vine broke, he crashed onto the floor, it was not a very long fall but it did leave him winded for a second.

Skylar got up and brushed himself off. "No harm no foul"  So he moved over and tried to see if he could get some wood from this tree. He poked the tree with his dagger and some weird green stuff came out. This tree must be filled with rot, it must have been a miracle the first vine was usable. Shaking his head with disgust he moved to a smaller tree at the edge of the forest.

The small tree was actually pretty nice and in good shape. It had one small vine that did not look like it would do much at all. "What the hay, it would not kill me to just try it. He grabbed the vine in a caress of a hold before slowly twisting the vine held as he twisted. The data change turned the vine into the last piece of twine he needed. "Yes!" He was excited, all he needed now was the wood and some chalky rocks.

Skylar grabbed the tree and pull it out by the roots, to turn it into the wood he still needed, to complete this very long and very boring quest. The goal was to make him stronger to be a performer required endurance and patience he was going to prove he had that. His loot skills were  not high enough for a tree of this quality as it the data burst from a failed attempt. On to the next one he supposed.

The next tree was slightly bigger and of lower quality. This one should withstand being cut down. He moved his dagger to test the wood before activating the cut program. The numbers flashed before his eyes before the attempt said failed and burst into data. "Maybe I did not pray to the forest spirit first" He got on his knees and prayed to the spirit of the forest.

Skylar got of his knees from praying and tried the nearest tree. It did not work of course, it just went straight through bursting into data, it was not even an attack and it moved like it was. When the tree burst he crashed straight into the ground. Did it hurt? Not that much just a bit. He was not in the mood to give up! "I will do this!"

Skylar moved to the edge of the forest, and spotted a large tree, this tree was the largest tree on the outskirts of the forest he has seen so far. "I should be able to get two attempts out of this one" Of course that may not be true SAO never made life easy for anyone. He moved t the tree, touched the dagger to it, and activated the wood decomp program. The attempt was successful and he got his wood. That was one easy thing about the SAO programming,  you never had to do the actual heavy duty work.

Skylar stopped to take a break before resting, he was out here for about three hours and the sun was starting to blaze overhead. Skylar wondered why for a video game you could actually feel discomfort maybe that was what made it more life lack. Still he had to keep moving before it got dark. His current level could not handle to many monsters right now. He moved along the outer fringes of the forest until he found a suitable tree. He put his dagger to the park and started the program. It was a bust, the tree turned to data and he had to move on.
