[PP-F6] The Bout with the Amazons (Shirosu) [COMPLETE]

I had grown tired of the surroundings on floor one. Not tired like I had said before, this time I was done. I needed to spend time in a totally new environment. I had already pretty much seen most of floors one through five so that meant some of the higher floors. I had heard some interesting things about the sixth floor. Apparently it was entirely woodlands, with city's made from wood and tents. But that wasn't the interesting part. From what I'd heard, only female NPCs spawned on that floor, Amazons. I didn't expect something like that in SAO, so it had caught my attention when I learned of it. Now that I was thinking of visiting other floors, this seemed like the perfect time to check it out for myself. I equipped my black coat and made my way to the teleport gate. I stepped inside and yelled one word "Amazon" When the teleport animation finished I was treated with what I was expecting. A respectable town with wooden buildings and large tents interspersed. I stepped out and looked around from my spot. It was immediately apparent who were NPCs and who were players. The "amazons" of this town were pretty tall. I didn't think I saw one that was shorter than at least 6'0". Not only that, many of them were fit to the point of being considered muscular. There was definitely no mistaking them, and I was a little shocked. It wasn't what I was expecting to find there, but then again I should've expected it. For some reason though, the novelty quickly wore off. After only a few minutes of walking around I found myself caring less about them and more just exploring the town. It was quite different from the town of beginnings, but it didn't seem to be that much less busy. Although the town was smaller, it was still full with players. I wondered if I would end up bumping into anyone that I knew. I doubted that most of the people that came to mind would be around here. Besides the interesting sites there didn't seem to be much for most of them to do here. They were generally of higher level. Nonetheless, I was still quite excited to look around. My first stop was a tent shop. The contents of which were mainly fruits of some sort. Oddly enough though, hanging behind the Amazonian shopkeeper were various weapons. An odd sight to see behind a stack of oranges.

Just out of Sheer curiosity the short little woman had decided to take a small road trip through some of the safe zoned cities within the first 10 floors. She was currently on the sixth floor, also known as the town on Amazons, as she ducked and weaved thru the crowd Shirosu couldn't help but admire the tall NPC's her 5'4" making her look like a house elf next to all of them.  She was currently admiring a shop that sold little trinkets like beads and jewelry, all pretty, but not any use in a battle. Turning away from the shop, Shirosu caught a glimpse of brown hair and paused before following it through the crowd, harboring a suspicion she might know who it was. Finally catching up to them she called,"Oi! Koumori! it's me Shirosu!" She hoped her voice would catch his attention over the hubba bubba of the town.

I finished looking through the strange shop and then returned to the Main Street. I started walking along with the crowd looking for something else to catch my eye. Sometimes it was difficult to see around the NPCs, I wasn't even 6 feet myself so I had to peer around them at times. Taking them into account, this town had a lot more character than the town of beginnings. If anything it was a lot more unique. But suddenly I heard a voice. Someone was calling out to me from behind. I stopped walking and turned around to face Shirosu, who was hustling towards me. I was actually pretty surprised she'd come over to me like this. We didn't know each other too well but I always thought she didn't like me that much. Maybe my fights with Mack create that misinterpreted attitude. Well at least it wasn't true. I walked forward as well to meet her half way. I raised my hand in a stationary wave and greeted her "Hey Shirosu. What're you doing here? And is everything okay with Mack's guild?" I knew that she accepted his invite and I was actually a little concerned. I didn't trust his attitude or judgement, so I had worries that he wouldn't be the most "gracious" leader. I motioned that we should get out of the flow of traffic and led Shirosu off to the side of the rode, under the shade of a large tree.

Struggling to push through all the giant ladies Shirosu followed Koumori through the crowd, apologizing when ever she accidentally bumped into someone, whether they be NPC or Player. Making it to the larger tree she turned and said,"Long time no see" She said by way of greeting, a small grin on her face" everything's been pretty good with the guild, most of the members are good, Mack's a bit of a smart ass though, tried to get a crotch shot in on him like you did, failed miserably, and he exacted revenge in the form of carrying me around on his shoulder" She sighed thinking back on that." In answer to what i'm doing here, my reply would be that i kinda just wanted to check out the different floors seeing as I haven't really left the first floor." She glanced around, quite fascinated by all the buildings, "Anywho what brings you here?" she inquired, returning his previous question.

"Yeah" When we situated ourselves under the tree (well we weren't really under it per say, the branches had to be at least 100 feet above our heads) she told me about the guild. I wasn't surprised in the slightest when she told me she was having troubles with Mack but when she mentioned the crotch shot a clutched my stomach and laughed hysterically. Even if she failed, just knowing she tried too was the funniest thing I heard since landing in SAO. And I could obviously understand her motives, as I had tried, and succeeded, at the same thing myself. I regained my composure and looked back up at her. "I'm sorry, that's just hilarious. You've just moved up on the list of my favorite people." I said to her with a kiddish grin on my face. But then, I got to business. I began telling her the proper strategy on how to land the hit the next time. "You see, there's a trick. It's all about the approach. If he expects it he'll dodge it. He seems to have a thing about Eagles. First, use that as a distraction. Then, when he's not looking" I got down on one knee and brought my fist up in an uppercut "Bam!" I jumped back up to my feet and smoothed my shirt. My little side show over, I replied to her question. "Same for me. I wanted to see something besides the lower floors. This place is pretty...different huh?" I was suddenly happy I ran into her. Having someone to share exploits about Mack with would be great.

When Koumori bust out laughing Shirosu couldn't help but crack a grin, when she thought back on it now she found it rather humorous herself. She was pleased that she could make someone's day as well. When Koumori started getting into how to distract Mack for a proper crotch shot Shirosu was the one holding her sides and laughing her head off, it was perfect just too perfect, and she knew about the eagles, her knife was named after that obsession. A little head pop out of the hood that was currently down and a yawn displayed to sharp rows  of baby teeth to Koumori,"finally awake?" she asked the little fox tickling it under the chin before turning back to their conversation. "Yeah, different is right" she replied scratching her head and gazing at the gigantic trees. "So," she said,"have any other plans while you were here, or do you care to explore with a bored loser like me?"

Shirosu seemed to get a kick out of my little act as she began laughing almost as hard as I had been just earlier. We both seemed to enjoy smacking on Mack. When she finally settled down I heard a strange noise emminate from her back. The silver haired girl brought out a small fox like creature and began scratching its chin, another familiar. Everyone seemed to be getting one these days. "You have a familiar too? They were never really my style" I will admit the thing was pretty cute. Which wasn't a surprise given the girl who had picked it. She then shifted her attention back to the town. "These girls are pretty intimidating huh. I bet I'd lose in an arm wrestle to most of them too haha" I said jokingly. Unfortunately, it was probably true. After that she scratched her head and asked what I was planning on doing while insulting herself. "Any girl who tries to crotch shot Mack could not possibly be a loser. Hmm, well I was thinking about looking for active quests in the town, wanna tag along?" It would be fun to do that with someone else, she wouldn't weigh me down. I noticed she was looking up at the trees. They were pretty big. Everything here was. 

(Haha excellent. They'll get alone well. Anyway, I like to make up quests to do in towns so that fun stuff can go down. Obviously they're not official)

"Ah yes!" she said plucking the three tailed fox out of her hood and holding him up, "This Gin, his mom kinda died in my arms and i couldn't leave him alone so, i ended up with a familiar." Gin sniffed Koumori experimentally then yipped, and squirmed back onto Shirosu shoulders where he became something of a living scarf.,"You should think about it," She said," It may seem like a fad, but they really are good for keeping you company when you would otherwise be alone" After saying that Gin made a purring sound deep in his chest and she pet him affectionately.  "Ha! I'd be hard pressed to beat them in anything probably," she said in response to the arm wrestling match,"Heck! im so short they probably think i'm a midget" She was thankful when he said that she couldent be a lose for taking a crotch shot at mack and grinned in response as well, She perked up at the sound of a quest, seeing as she was usually up for one "Sure id love to go hunt for a quest," She need to do more of thoses, they were great level raisers, and heaven knows how much she needs to raise her level.

Shirosu held the little fox, Gin, out so he could sniff me. I could only assume he wasn't a fan of what he whiffed because he quickly skittered back up her arms and formed a breathing scarf around her neck. It was a funny sight to say the least. She told me that I should consider getting one, that they were valuable company, but that didn't do much to change my mind. I wasn't worried about company. "I don't really have a problem with being alone, so I still don't know" I said to her honestly. Lots of people usually didn't understand my "strange" desire of wanting to be alone. Of course I'd learned it was pointless to go out of my way to stay that way (an earlier string of events has taught me that trouble always comes my way when I do) but I wouldn't go out of my way to find company either. With some exceptions. My somber thoughts were interrupted by her laughs at what I had said. It seemed she didn't like her chances against the amazon women either. Whether in strength or height. "Hey midget's not a nice word. I think "fun sized" would be more accurate" I said with a playful wink. Many of the shorter girls I knew used this term to describe themselves, I always thought it was pretty funny. "You're not actually that short though so at least you have that going for you." I wasn't much taller than her myself, I guessed about 4 inches at most. Obviously I wasn't the most physically imposing guy. I had my fingers crossed for one last growth spurt. She purked up again at the mention of a quest. It seemed like she had been itching to do one. I hoped she wasn't looking for the rewards, because I doubt anything we found would be worth it in that department. "Great. I'll bet we'll find something's if we look in alleys and the outskirts of town" I said as I walked back towards the street. It would be better to walk and talk. We could get more done that way.

When she heard his explanation about the whole not getting a familiar thing she didn't press, knowing it wasn't her place to question a persons personal motives for reasons like that and instead threw her hands up in defeat in regards to the Midget statement and she conceded,"Fine, fun sized is acceptable,Its a bit more publicly acceptable anyway" she laughed winking back. Shirosu gave a little fist pump at the thought of doing a quest, even for the sake of doing one. She trailed Koumori as  they started towards the edge of town to find a suitable quest to do," Any ideas of what quests might be around?" she asked, genuinely curious, her eyes flicking from NPC to NPC looking for ant sign that one harbored a quest for them. She was currently pumped to be doing something other then sight seeing, that was fun and all, but some excitement always brightened her day.

As I expected she seemed a little perplexed when I talked about being alone, but she didn't press any further. I was greatful for that. I never liked having to explain things. It kinda wasted everyone's time. She returned the same wink and smile when she answered my fun sized statement. She agreed that that's what she'd be going with, as she said, it was more "acceptable". As we started walking for the quest I saw her flash a quick fist bump to show her excitement. I was generally surprised with how she was acting, if was nothing like the first impression I got of her. Maybe it was because of the tense situation, but right now she was way more fun. Even childish sometimes. I thought maybe I should voice my opinion to her instead of analyzing her in my head. "You're a lot different than I thought. I'm actually surprised you like me after the way I acted with Mack the first time we met". I scratched my head with my hand as I said this, trying to make light of the situation. It dawned on me she had asked something about what quests I thought we would find so I quickly came up with a response. "Usually they're simple things like looking for lost items or gathering materials. But I don't know I get the feeling we'll find something good this time" We had already walked a fair distance. So far we had found no indications of a quest and we were coming up on the back of the town. Hopefully something would come up soon, it would be a waste if we had to walk back up the other side in a circle. 

(I've already got an idea of what we can do. I'll initiate the quest on my next turn!)

Shirosu laughed at his comment, "Ahh sorry about that, i was just really pissed then, too many people, and i was a little annoyed at you twos childish squabble, but it was nothing that left a permanent imprint, after all, i was still very unsure of what the hell was going on and the more people there were, the more confused and irritated i got." So that's what had been bugging him, she had noticed a few confused looks coming her way and wondered what they were about, now she knew, she was kinda sad that her behavior on the first day had lead to that impression, but hopefully that would clear it up. "I forgot to mention, i have a slightly short fuse, and tend to get umm, snappy quickly, not violent, just fed up with people"   When he explained the different quests she nodded her head thoughtful and with an impish grin, she said,"Finding something good always turns out to be a blast, you just cant complain"

Shirosu jumped to explain the apparent misunderstanding. According to her, she had only been annoyed at the general situation, not me specifically. Apparently she was agitated by all the people that kept showing up and was still confused about the whole situation. I understood. The whole thing really was a debacle. Although I can't say a situation like that would get me mad. I have a temper, but not for that. "Right, I understand. Lot to take in. Especially when Mack doesn't know where the line is. But I guess I should apologize too. I'm glad it didn't leave a lasting impression though. I'll make up for it." Her next statement made total sense, now it was my turn to laugh. "Now that I could've guessed. No problem, then I just won't get you mad." I said smiling. As I finished I saw just what I had been looking for. There was a tell-tale NPC standing at the back entrance to Amazon. She had a worried look on her face as she appeared to be waiting for something. I looked to Shirosu and nodded before we continued over. As I approached the woman I got a better look. I would guess she was in her earlier thirties and was perhaps the tallest Amazonian I had seen all day. Towering above us at no less than 6'8", her severely toned and fit frame made Shirosu and I look pathetic in compraison. I knew SAO had a sort of heightened reality but I felt that maybe they had gone too far in this instance. I couldn't recall amazons ever looking like this in books that I had read. Fortunately, the armor wasn't as exaggerated (or under exaggerated). Instead of the bikini-chainlink armor you could expect, she was wearing full metal armor on her torso accompanied by long gauntlets and greaves of the same material. Her arms and legs on the other hand were completely exposed. Not exactly the most effective design, but a step in the right direction. When we got closer she finally saw us and jumped to life. "Oh please young adventurers, you must help me." The way she spoke and the expression her surprisingly soft face bore have the impression she was under great duress. Looking over at Shirosu once more, I spoke to the woman. "What's wrong? Whatever it is we can probably help you out." A smile spread across the woman's face. "Thank the gods. Well, you see, I'm in quite a predicament. For my daughter, Lyra, must travel thought the forest to reach the settlement on the other side. My sister is waiting for her there and is expecting to receive her tomorrow. However, by the misfortune of the heavens, there have been strange happenings in the forest. For the past few moons those women who have gone in have not been heard from since, and we fear the worst. My daughter will not be safe if she goes alone so I must ask you if you would be willing to escort her on her journey." At the end of her speech she leaned forward into a bow as she awaited our response. "Well, this sound good to you Shirosu?" It sounded pretty good to me, but I wanted her opinion before I accepted.

Shighing She covered her eyes and muttered,"That day was so stressful, thanks for the apology though, and you'll be fine, im a little less irritable right now, finally getting everything in order" when they found the worried quest NPC Shirosu eyed the extremely tall amazonian lady defensively, pretty much having to look straight up to see her face. The amazons she had heard about in Greek mythology hadent really been tall, just a tribe of warrioristic woman who had kicked ass, not ridiculously tall women who were so intimidating. In a whisper she said,in Koumori's direction" Shes tall enough to ko even a pro basketball player, who needs Michael Jorden when you have this lady, yikes" She watched the exchange between the NPC and Koumori and when he asked for her approval she grinned and said,"Never did an escort mission before, seems simple enough, why not eh?"  She was all about trying new things while she was here, and the more training she could get in, the quicker she could get to the front lines to help with getting out of the death game. " Accept it and then we can totally own it and complete it no problems"

Shirosu was taken aback by the Amazon women. I guessed that the extreme height was getting to her too. As the women talked, Shirosu was definitely sizing her up. At one point she leaned over and whispered something about Michael Jordan. I chuckled a bit at that. "She could probably be her own basketball team with no problem. Talk about intimidating." Shirosu eagerly agreed to do the quest, saying we could do it with no problem. With that I once again faced the woman and heeded her request. "Alright, we'll escort your daughter" The woman stood from her bow and deeply thanked us "Gods bless you." As if on cue, at exactly that moment I heard the footsteps behind us and saw the women's eyes light up. "Here she comes now" I turned around so that I could see the source of the footsteps. It was Lyra, waving her hand a running towards us. She was the spitting image of her mother, physically they were identical. With only two differences: Lyra had black hair instead of blonde, and wasn't nearly as tall (probably just under 5'10") When she reached us she brought her hand back to her side and greeted her mother. She was wearing some sort of leather tunic and a white skirt, no armor to be seen. "I'm so sorry I'm late. Are these to be my companions?" She said as she turned to look at us. The Amazon girl got much closer to us and eyed use both up and down. At this distance I obviously got a better look at her as well. If I had to guess she was about 16 or 17 but it was hard to be sure given her height and fitness. However, her youthful face showed someone who wasn't much older than me. I was impressed with the realism in these models. SAO really took the cake when it came to realism. Of course they weren't real. Lyra took a few steps back and pointed at us while looking at her mother. "Is this really them? The gods have not gifted them with the bodies of warriors. Surely id be the one protected them" It's a good thing she wasn't real or that would've pissed me off. Instead I just crossed my arms and grinned. "Funny. Now if you don't mind we should get going." I didn't know how Shirosu would respond to the girls jab. She told me she had a short fuse, I hoped she wouldn't blow it so soon.

The NPC women seemed very grateful to them for taking the quest and when her daughter came running over it be came very apparent the Shirosu would not like this Lyra. The tall blonde girl she estimated to be around 16-17, and she quickly decided the both her and Koumori were weak just by their statures. She puffed out her cheeks and glared a little but soon forced herself to calm down, their was no need to blow up at and NPC. Still Shirosu was amazed at the realism of the NPC's to this day, it helped to make her believe that she wasn't in a game at times and kept her from constantly stressing because half the people on the game looked like animated figures. "yup! we should go" Shirosu said, already forgetting about the Lyra girls insult and ready to be on their way, her face lit with excitement. It also seemed like Gin was picking up on it because he started to constantly making tiny little sounds around her neck and seemed to be getting excited himself.  She took a few steps ahead of Koumori onto the trail and looked back asking with a grin,"You two coming or what?"

"Hey it is dangerous out there, wait for us" I called after Shirosu as she ran ahead to the forest. I waited for Lyra to say goodbye to her mother then led her out to our waiting companion. When we reached Shirosu I again resumed the lead position and walked into the depth of the forest. It didn't take long for Lyra to begin again. She came up to me and grabbed my right arm in her hands, her grip surprisingly light. She brought it up to her eye level (she had to bend down slightly) and prodded it. "How can you lift a sword with an arm such as this. If I didn't know any better I'd say this was the appendage of a child." For an NPC, the captured the annoying personality pretty well. I ripped my arm away from her grip and walked faster to get ahead of her. "If you're going to be like that this is going to be a long trip." When I said that she leaped in front of me and grabbed my hands in hers and brought them up to her chest. I paused as she brought her face right in front of mine. "I'm sorry. I'm sure you're actually a very strong man." A perplexed look entered her face before she continued. "Your eyes are such a strange color." She was getting way to close. I backstepped and she released my hands. "Like I said, a long trip" She was acting quite strangely. Going from confrontational, to inquisitive, to apologetic. In all of those different stages she was like a whole other person. Before I knew it she had dissapeared from my sight. I almost panicked as I immediately thought the worst, but if she dissapeared Shirosu wouldn't noticed too. I turned around to look and saw that Lyra was now approaching her, ready to bother her no doubt. We'd have to figure this girl out if we wanted this trip to be easy. Especially if we ran into any trouble.

"Oh, hello" Said Shirosu as the NPC lady approached her, she had noticed her bugging Koumori up frond and had been secretly snickering about it, but now, she had a feeling it was her turn. Bending down to her height Lyra said,"How do you see anything at this height? everything else must seem gigantic too you" Shirosu decided to humor her and laughed,"Ah well you see, iv never been tall so i see things as how they appear to me, and yes, occasionally things do look very large"  The women nodded in agreement then spotting Gin scooped up the little fox which barked in protest, squirming to get away from the strange giant who had grabbed him, and back onto his kind masters shoulders" And why do you have this little creature with you, wouldn't i make a prettier fur instead?" hearing that the little fox intensified his struggling, quite aware of what that meant. Quickly snatching back the little fox for fear of the amazonian lady skinning him she said nervously," I just like having him around, hes good company" the lady didn't even skip a beat and said," You also have weird colored eyes too" "yeah guess i do" she said, forcing herself to be friendly and not chase the girl away.

I watched from ahead as Lyra leaned into Shirosu's personal space the same way she did to me. I assumed she was busy saying something insulting. Then she took an interest in the familiar, who responded on cowering to its master. That girl was really going to be a handful. Thinking it would be better for us to deal with it together, I slowed down so Shirosu could catch up. When we were side by side I began talking to her. "If she keeps up like this she's gonna need protection from us. We should probably try and control her together." As I was finishing I felt a hand on my shoulder as Lyra leaned her head between the two of us. "Could you be talking about me? It's impolite the talk behind one behind her back" she said with a sarcastic grin. Her presence really was intimidating. For a girl she certainly didn't give off the usual feeling. I was sure I was just intimidated by her appearance. But for some strange reason, I felt like something wasn't right. I felt that just maybe she was hiding something or maybe doing this on purpose. Then again, I knew nothing about these amazons. "Lyra, just try and stay close. We don't know what we're dealing with here, so id feel better if we all stuck together." She looked at me for a few seconds, almost like challenging me. Then she smiled and agreed. "Whatever you say. I don't want you two getting hurt" She then squeezed her arms in and brought the three of us into a hug. I attempted to free myself but to no avail. She let us go and a stretched out my back. Since when were NPCs this intelligent. She was practically a full AI. I thought about this as we walked along the trail before something finally caught my eye. Off to the side I noticed a tree that had a deep gash carved in it, and the gash was surrounded with blood. "Shirosu, over there" I said as I walked of the trail to the tree. I knelt down to examine it more closely. "Look at this. What do you think?"

"Protection from us is right" She muttered under her breath, clinging to her fox rather protectively now. "Oh hey Lyra" She said, totally playing it off like they hadn't been talking about her at all, Shirosu was a good liar when she wanted to be. Shaking her head Shirosu didn't feel right around the amazonian women, even for an NPC her behaviour was too erratic, and she seemed to be trying to gauge something from us, which Shirosu didn't like. When Lyra hugged her and Koumori Shirosu tensed up and stood stock still until the women released her.  When Koumori pointed something out she jogged over and studied thinking hard about what she saw. "Could this possibly be from one of the other NPC girls that didn't make it back?" She was deeply worried by that, it felt suspicious.
