Reytac felt a burn in his muscles as he moved himself between the Monkey King and Sam while she got herself back to her feet. The way that the ape's attention had snapped towards Sewallus when he wanted to draw its attention had made it a bit frustrating - he didn't want the NPC to die, but to be fair he wanted himself or Firefly to die even less. The massive monkey swung its arms, reaching and groping at its back, for a few moments before with a loud roar, it ripped the blade out of its shoulder and tossed to the ground. This was one of the times Rey was glad there wasn't as much realism - th

Reytac hummed a small tune in thought as he turned over that idea. The thought of leaving the spider silk untreated was an option, but it would build towards an entirely different set of possibilities. Instead of being able to use it as a tripwire, it would lend towards binding and trapping things itself instead of being used to trigger other things - though... the brunette shook his head to get rid of the errant thought away as he followed after Nisa. He spotted something sticking out of the loamy earth as the walked, and he detoured while the white-haired woman was holding up her hand for he -

"Ah, sorry about that. Name's Reytac." Telling her his name had completely slipped his mind since he had initially thought she was going to fall on her face, and the oddity and abruptness to her actions, like diving into a mimic, had kept him offkilter just a bit. "And, I suppose? I wouldn't have called myself one before all this, if anything I was just another guy. But in here, sometimes you need an edge. Or at least, I will. And the thought of tinkering with things appeals to me." Somehow, Reytac didn't really think this woman would need anything like an 'edge'. It was rather strange, really -

It was honestly kind of interesting watching Nisa work. The shorter player was lackadaisacal about things, but he couldn't blame her - even before the insanity of being trapped in a death game, people could be weird, and the stress of being trapped for years had done a number on everyone. He dropped his hands back down as he looked around them, his eyes falling towards a root that was sticking up from the ground near his feet. A simple tug brought it to the surface, revealing it was more a mess of roots wrapped around a chunk of metal ore. Rey dropped that into his inventory as he started walk -

Reytac couldn't help himself after the whiteheaded - not girl, that speech pattern was not that of a child, so something else there. Which, was good, because he had thought that no children had been able to play this death game. One of the few 'kindnesses' that Kayaba had done. But in the here and now, Rey couldn't help the snort that came when the white-haired woman said it was 'courage' to be out here when Wurms roamed. Not that he'd known that, but he didn't know if that would have stopped him anyway. "Courage, maybe, but that's sometimes just foolishness under a fancy coat." Then she -
Reytac's fingers twitched as he made his way through the woods. He'd been told that the person he was looking for was somewhere out here in the forest, and more, that their home would be exceedingly noticeable. What, exactly, that meant, the brunette adventurer had no idea of, but it did make him look for things that were out of place. When he'd gotten the last bit of information in town, the NPC had mentioned that Reytac wasn't the only one who had asked about the new trainer that had moved down here from 'somewhere else' - but had clammed up afterwards. He put that back out of his mind for n

Reytac closed the door behind them, cutting off the boisterous sounds of the tavern as they left. The walls were well made, containing the majority of the souud - you would still know it was a tavern, from the volume, but it wasn't overwhelming outside. He followed behind Samantha as the two of them walked towards the training grounds, listening to her as she fretted about his safety. It was odd - the main other person he'd interacted to this point had also worried about his safety, but shown it in a vastly different way. He rubbed his chin with one hand, feeling the stubble of his beard again

“I mean, if nothing else, most people feel violated when they find out they've been stalked like that.” Reytac refocused his eyes, blinking as he realized they'd dried out while he was thinking. “It's just that, in here, some people can be a bit more direct in dealing with that feeling of violation. I don't know how I'd react if I found out that someone was stalking me like that - I was aggravated with him myself, and I was just collateral to his pursuit.” He pinched the bridge of his nose with his fingers. “I don't think I'd take it well myself. And even if most of the rumors about her were f

One step back, pulling Emilia with him. It hadn't escaped Reytac that she'd tried to put herself between him and Vex when the man had started acting up. So she knew something was wrong with the cackling man, but maybe not what. Two steps back, now pulling Khione, in her casual dressy clothes and fur coat behind him as he squeezed onto the crystal that she'd handed him. “Way ahead of you Mari.” Showing up on the LC's radar was an absolutely atrocious idea, and one that, considering he wanted to get out of this death game, an idea that Reytac actively wanted to avoid. A glance at his HUD

Dust swirled around Reytac's feet as he let the door close behind him, clinging to his feet as he stepped over the threshold. A part of him wondered if he should have tried to keep that door propped open somehow, but he doubted it would have been possible. Something about the heavy thud of the door had been very final, like anything that had tried to prevent it would have been placed in one of the cells for just the attempt. An echoing, perhaps, of the fact that that was the last sound that the people who had been kept here in the past had heard before their lives were stripped away from them,

Reytac gave Emilia a slight nod, the majority of his attention on the other man there, who still had a self-satisfied smile on his face as he looked towards Mari. There was something about the white-dressed man that had the hairs on the back of Rey's neck prickling, something that was just ever so slightly off that he couldn't place. Not that he was flighty - Rey had met people in life who had attention spans that short, but at the same time… This man had been tracking him, or perhaps, more likely, Mari, for an extended period of time. And now that he was being confronted, was now distracted,

Reytac pulled up a notes screen to jot down the names that Sam gave him for the blacksmith - both the player's name, and his shop. It'd make it easier to track down later, if he survived what was apparently going to be a heinous monkey fight. And hers, as well, though he figured it would be easier to find her later to maybe buy a piece of gear from her if he could. He wasn't sure if she was far enough on the profession tree to make a better piece of armor than what he was already wearing, but he did know that he'd need to upgrade from this thing sooner rather than later. But the informat

Reytac looked at the odd scene before him, blinking at the man on the ground who seemed completely nonchalant about Mari's foot crushing down on his chest. The idle talk with Emilia on the way over had been odd - he'd went along with the flow of light talk, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was supposed to be at odds with the woman. He tilted his head to one side, then the other, before shaking it. A glance from the corner of his eye towards Emilia showed her to be sighing, exasperated at the scene, and he couldn't tell if she had expected to find the guy like this or not.

"Oh, wow! So that's really fascinating!" Reytac's head rocked back. He hadn't even considered that as something that full-dive gear could do, help someone who was blind 'see', but it made sense. The gear was interfacing directly with the brain, slipping past the normal senses. "I bet that was also a big adjustment, having to get used to seeing things and knowing what you were looking at." Idly, he wondered if anyone else had had the same thing happen with a different sense - getting a sense of taste, or smell, maybe? The brunette gave his head a tiny shake to throw off the off-tangent thoughts

"She isn't a problem at all - I have, well, had, six, at home." Reytac closed his eyes for a moment as he thought about the small horde. He really, really hoped that they were alright. That she was alright. He clenched his eyes shut for a moment before shaking his head, pushing those thoughts away. "No, she isn't a problem at all. If anything, I'd be trying to feed her some treats or something, and not my place since I don't know if you have her on a diet or anything." He stretched his arms out, popping his shoulders before he picked up one of the skewers and started munching on it idly. He ma

"Likewise, you can call me Rey, Reytac, or Reynold." Tension melted away from Reytac's shoulders as the young lady - Firefly, or Sam, he'd have to make sure to actually use her name in his head not just 'lady' - almost immediately agreed. He looked down at the small cat that was meowing from her other side, sounding quite upset and grumpy, and a small smile spread his lips. "There's no hurry on the party invite. I haven't even had a chance to look for it myself yet, honestly." Despite being in Jacob's Ladder, he hadn't even met any of the members other than Mari, and he had not been in a

Reytac was sipping on his tea when he saw a small shuffling in the crowd of people as another person entered the tavern. So far, he hadn't really heard anyone, player or NPC, mention either of the people that his quest log was telling him to track down, and he was slowly getting close to the point of giving up and just walking through the town until he spotted either one of them. There weren't that many people that lived in this town, so it couldn't be that hard to find one of them! But he kept paying attention as the person walked over to the bar and talked to the bar keep, and asked him a qu

Reytac stretched out as the warm air of the forest washed over him, filling his nose with the medley of scents that pervaded the area. He couldn't pin it down to any one smell he was used to - at times he thought there was the smell of pine, at others the smell of damp earth was near overwhelming. His ears rang with the cries of birds and wildlife, unseen but definitely not quiet, as the man twisted his torso, getting his spine to pop as he loosened himself up after his trek through the forest. He'd left the main, protected settlement behind a while ago, and his destination was finally in sigh

"Note to self. Leather does not like swampy conditions. 'Course, I think metal armor would do even worse." Reytac crinkled his nose up as he waded through the marshy surroundings. He had come here after he realized he needed to upgrade his gear, and he was ranging further to try picking up materials to use in reinforcing or replacing his equipment. He knew that for the most part rafters could use whatever was brought to them, as long as it was at least somewhat close to appropriate, but he still had it in his head that what materials were used would influence what they were used to make. He wa -
Reytac turned his head to one side, then the other. “I appreciate the warning this time. Hang on, give me a moment with this. ” He demolished the rest of his roll and then downed his tea, putting the cup in the trash receptacle nearby. As his back was to her, he sent Mari a quick, abrupt message. Reytac - >Mari Purple hair is named Emilia. She's on her way to fourth floor. Asked if I want to go, y/N? Mari → Reytac: I know. Is fine. If it somehow came to a fight, then he had a feeling he would just end up getting in Mari's way, or worse, make her have to

Reytac munched on his roll for a moment as Emilia spoke, not trying to be rude but trying to quiet the rumbling in his stomach. As she talked, he nodded once or twice and used eating to cover the fact that his face twitched once or twice. He let out a short laugh and wiped his mouth of any crumbs with a napkin, then politely sipped the cappuccino that she'd had the waiter set down, ignoring his protest. “I suppose so. I was one of those with my head stuck in the sand after the whole announcement back then, so I missed it. Bit of a shock, I'm sure you can imagine.” He had also noted that,

Reytac tilted his head to one side. It wasn't hard to pretend he'd forgotten her name - he had, after all. “Right, yes, you're the lady who actually wanted mead while the others just kept taking beer. Met you the same time as..” He pulled his drink of tea and roll out as he sat down in the seat she had indicated, then tapped his fingers against the table. “Abellio. That was his name and the other guy. Sorry, I'm terrible with names now, been a while since I tried to remember any.” This was the woman, the one who sent him to Mari's shop. Potentially setting him up to die, if the orange pl

The familiar sounds of the Town of Beginnings washed over Reytac, wrapping around him like a comfortable, well worn jacket. While he was trying to push further ahead and grow, he still found himself coming back here on occasion. He'd spent a long time here after being trapped, even if most of it was a blur of depression and hopelessness. Teleporting always made him feel a bit queasy, he didn't know why - and hadn't seen others affected by it. Most seemed to treat it as just stepping from one place to another, but to him it was always disorienting. Just one more reason he was glad that the tele

Reytac stood beside her for a few moments, looking between her and the guards a few times before shaking his head once. He knew it was a limitation of their coding - they reacted on sight to the presence of an orange player - but it was still odd to have been in her presence for a while, and then see her being openly threatened like this. "Unless you change wildly from who you seem to be now, I doubt that, Mari." He gave her a bow. He couldn't do anything about helping her with the guards, and she didn't seem to care about them at all, having stopped outside of their aggro range. "I'll swing b

Rey frowned, turning that over in his head. The guild was barely hanging on? It sounded like people had drifted away, perhaps, like she'd suggested that he do, to move on to a bigger one. So at least there was something he could do to help others as he was being helped. "I'll make it a point to come by your store again in a while then, to see if you've had a chance to make anything. Constantly failing these blasted searches is disheartening, even if I know that's literally how the game is designed." He let out a soft snort before stepping back as more wolves charged at her. It was kind o
