  1. Life blinked away the sand granules blowing past his vision, an orange frame blended with the orange landscape and from is came a voice that shook him with apprehension. "Oh M-mari? I didn't think I'd find you In a desert of all places. I'm fine, just the heat, ya'know. It's good to see you, I hope you've been well." He grabbed at his side, waiting for the churning in his stomach to soon pass. Although they had kind of put aside their differences in the past, he couldn't help but shake the feeling that things were damaged between them.

He was taken aback, the comforting voice of his father playing in his mind, a piece of advice locked in a memory.  "You see this plant son? Do you see how its roots have begun to rot? The black spots dotting over it's leaves? The plant is dying from a fungus caused from over watering; and sometimes when a plant gets this sick it may take several years, but eventually it will die. Your only hope of survival, or rather to salvage the plant, is to cut a healthy branch, and plant it in new soil."

If Life wanted to salvage their friendship, he needed to find a healthy cutting and plant it, then allow it to flourish. "I'm just going to be upfront with you Mari. Recently I've actually been wondering if you wanted to hang out and kill some time together. As dumb as that sounds, and I know you hate the heat here. Admittedly, as awkward as it was I enjoyed the last few quests we went on together."

  2. Dry winds howled over the desert plains of the fifth floor with Life centered atop a lonely dune looking out over the vastness of nothingness. It ironically helped him feel not as alone, knowing that there was a place as empty as he felt inside. He wanted to feel as though he belonged again, he wanted to feel the sensation that he did so long ago when he fought side by side with comrades for freedom and liberty. But with so much chaos and negativity that festered in the minds of broken players it became a herculean task in itself just to find motivation to leave his comfort zone. He was here to complete a mission, a quest which was a sequel to the sand shark he had slain long ago. He wasn't sure what it meant the there were now new evolution of previous bosses popping up all over the place, or what it had to do with what that NPC had said to him when he left the forests after two years, but he felt that he would begin to find out.

Things did seem different, and the passage of time definitely did not stop with him being gone for so long. He helped others get ahead but he himself could not move from where he was, as if stuck in the past. Life wasn't in a good place, but he was trying. He was really trying to keep moving forward. He wanted to see his father again, and he wanted the suffering of so many others to finally stop. He also wanted to prove to himself and to some he had hurt, that he was a good person.

Life took a step forward, and continued his trek through the desert, perhaps this quest would bring him some clarity.

  3. Life analysed the rocks curvature, its intricacies, its particles. He looked to find the weak points, perhaps with enough analysis he could be able to do more damage to it by hitting the right spots. He wondered if the rock was even living, could it feel pain? Would the damage he inflicted on this rock eventually come back to harm in the future as per the laws of karma and or rhythm. With how much force would the blow be returned to him? He he were to crack the boldurs surface, would his life be torn asunder? If he split the rock in two, would such a thing also occur to his very soul? What if this rock was more than it seemed on the surface? What if there was a spirit trapped inside... What if in order to free such a grateful spirit he must destroy the prison which held it.

    Life struck.

  4. Life cleared his mind and the began to prepare himself for the next few hours of what would essentially be beating a rocking with his fists until it broke. Looking at the thing it didnt seem likely that he'd be able to do it quickly despite it only having a puny amount of hp

He took a deep breath in and out and clenched his fist, tensing his entire arm out as if it were a solid piece of metal and with one swing belted his arm against the rocks surface, hoping it'd crack open instantly. The sheer force of the blow resonated throughout his body and the health of the rock decreased very slightly. "Well... i think about eleven or so more hits like that should do the trick to be honest."

Life cracked out his fingers and shook his hand and prepared himself for the next strike against the density.

  5. "So how does one go about breaking the unbreakable?" Life inquired the NPC. "Well, that's for your to discover for yourself. Come with me." The NPC gestured with his hand, and life followed himself outside to the two meter high bolder that seemed to have just spawned as he hadn't seen it earlier. "You expect me to break this thing without my sword huh?" Life sculled down his golemns strength potion and rolled off the top half of his kimono to expose his bear chiseled body. "Ok, I'm ready for this ... "

"Oh one more thing.." The npc added before painting a pair of whiskers on Life's face. "W-what the hell?!" Life tried to wipe the paint off of his face but it had already dried at that point. "Are you serious?!" The NPC laughed again. "It'll come off when you're done breaking the boulder. Goodluck!" Life clenched his fist. "Oh yea? I'm gonna pretend this rock is your face!" He said in a mildly frustrated tone. Mostly joking.

  6. Finally reaching the top of the mountain he was greeted by the site of a a quaint hut most definitely inhabited by the NPC that was said to live at the top of the mountain. Life looked around to see if there was anyone around and apon confirming the definite deadness of the scenery he figured he'd have better luck walking into the hut himself. The door creaked open and the NPC looked up at him from the comfort of his wooden rocking chair and grinning. "I know why you're here" He uttered. "You want to learn about breaking the unbreakable. The art of martial ways, to fight with the weapon that is ones own body." He continued.

Life smiled sheepishly. "To be honest there is no replacement for a warriors weapon." The NPC chuckled. "And what if that warriors weapon was his body?" Life thought on that for a moment before nodding his head in agreement. "Fair enough."

  7. Life began down his trail through the meek forests that the second floor provided, as the the area was mainly fond of open mountainous areas and paths littered with rocks and pebbles. He kicked a stone or two as he made his way further along the off road path of dirt and stone, nearing closer to the foot of the mountain. He hummed a simple melody to keep himself entertained as he walked until he reached a Tori structure leading to a set of stone steps leading up towards the mountains peak.

The rocks color pallet was a washed grey with cracks and roots growing into the structure of it, interestingly enough it would be sturdy despite looking as though it was ready to crumble at a moments notice. Life continued to hum to himself a simple song he'd sing while working on his fathers farm many years ago, before his entrapment.

  8. Life decided if he wanted to get serious about finally progressing and catching up to all the people that had now surpassed him he would have to start clearing some of the quests on the lower floors that he had been ignoring for the longest of times. The breaking the unbreakable quest was a very well known one where many players had to break open a rock with the sheer force of their fists, and some other unorthodox methods he had heard of. The quest giver was location atop one of the highest mountains in the region.

Travelling there would probably end up being the hardest component to the quest itself, luckily for him however, Life had unlocked the athletics skill, which would make this quest that much easier to complete in the end; Both with the travel and with breaking open the boulder. Life opened his map and scanned ahead, "Straight ahead... simple enough."

  9. The darkness consumed Life's slender frame, the muttering and pattering of monster feet could be heard not too distantly from his location. Life was continuing his journey to survey the remaining floors he hadn't been to yet, and thus it was his first time on floor fifteen. Dark wood trees towered over him as he walked between their thin trunks, sifting through the fog created by the cold and humid climate. Life knew that this floor was dangerous too him, to the point where wandering into the wrong location could mean permanent death. But he wasn't a stranger to forests, he had spent two years in one and was quite attuned to nature at this point.

He could tell the difference between new and old permanent roots, why they grew and how. The directions of branches and foliage indicating the suns direction, and thus finding the bearings of east and west. He could tell by the uniform shaping of the upper canopies that they was a large structure further ahead obstructing their sunlight, and the thickness of the roots on one side, indicating the presences of water nearby. Following such hints, Life knew he'd eventually end up at a village, and not half an hour later, he was right. A large village suspended int the tree top canopy, the forest below being a dead zone of most plant life due to the scarcity of light.

Life inspected the ropes which cascaded down from the village and tugged at it, not exactly sure what kind of contraption this was supposed to provide. Though to him it seemed his best bet of getting to the top would just be to climb it. With one arm after the other Life grappled at the rope, steadily pulling himself further up each time. It was clear that his athletics skill definitely played a role in how smoothly he was able to pull himself up in the end.

When he arose he could overhear the bickering of multiple townsfolk, their tone was rough and unrefined, as if barbaric in nature. They discussed a new breed of wolf terrorizing nearby trade routes to their village. Life smirked as the quest <<bane of blood>> popped up on his HUD. "I guess I'll have to see what this is about then." He mused. Though, he knew he wouldn't be able to solo quests on this floor. He had straggled so far behind the other players that he couldn't just rely on his own strength anymore, if he wanted to get stronger he'd need to form a party. It was odd to him since he'd never had actively looked for a party member before, aside from the one time he put up something on the bulletin board. "I suppose if I hang around the quest NPC another player looking for the quest would pop up and we'd do it together... but how long would I have to wait.." Life pondered to himself, he'd give it a day to think as he waited.

  10. The skies began to darken and the temperature dropped to a cool chill as the group of players gathered around the remains of the defeated treants. The game insisted on trying to make them feel bad for what they were doing but as far as Life was concerned they were the initial aggressors. There probably was a deep and conceited backstory to the ordeal but he wasn't all too interested in finding out, after all it was just a game and Life was never much for storytelling. The fight was all that mattered in the end, whether they were morally correct in the battle hardly mattered when their lives were on the line.

Following behind the red swordsman Life charged against the tree of winter with his dainty sword in hand. The boss let out of chilling stream of freezing air straight at him, slowing his aggression and wincing at the wind. Life swung wide at the trunk pressing through the elements and striking deep into its husk, ripping chunks of its bark off.

  11. The remaining two treants didn't seem to be having a good time against this group of players, following the death of their relative tree they became crestfallen. Almost regrettably in appearance that they had to battle the group, as if, the players were doing something heinous to them. Yet were they not the aggressors? Did they not attack them first? Life half frowned and gripped his sword tighter, it was a stupid ordeal in the end, the best thing to do was to finish the job.

Life bent his knees and charged right back into the fray of battle, avoiding the scattered vines planted into the ground surface to trip them up. Nimbly bypassing the rough terrain Life hovered at the roots of the enemy swinging the heft of the metal into the wooden amalgamation, carving off bits off wood pieces in the process. Before the treant could respond to his attack he kicked back getting to safety.

  12. Life looked around for the source of the sound that called his name and turned to find Yuki standing in a absolutely ridiculous outfit. "Y-yes I'm looking for the eggs but firstly; What on Earth are you wearing." He retorted in disbelief. It was a little funny but he definitely wasn't expecting to see anyone in the game wearing something like that. Well, it would probably be for the best if he just ignored it for now and continued looking for eggs. "Err never mind, not important. We got eggs to find." He looked around the grasslands, it seemed that the grass had grown a few inches larger for this event to obscure the eggs from being spotted at long distances. Smart.

"Speaking of..." Life gently pushed past the bunny girl and knelt down behind her, opening up a moderate patch of grass to reveal five more smaller eggs. "Hah, that makes ten already. I wonder how many we need for rewards."

  13. Life held onto her arm as she tried to pass him, not sure why he did at first, he just didn't want to leave things as they were. He struggled to find words before stammering a few out. "I'm sorry I didn't have the answer you were looking for..." He let decided it was probably better to let go of her before she retaliated again. "I'll keep an eye and an ear out for you, ok? I know the truth about the situation, and so do you. I'm not going to let rumors like that go by me and do nothing about it. I'm on your side, ok?"

He could tell she was still hurting, and that this was bothering her a lot. "I'm sorry that I upset you again. I'm doing a terrible job at trying to make things up to you... I'll see you around. We bump into each other so often I doubt it'll be long." Life bit the inside of his lip and looked away. A cold wind passed between the two numbing his senses. He decided to turn and start walking away, watching her leave was too upsetting.

    @Mari

  14. Life sighed as she began to blow up at him again, this time it felt a little out of place considering he really didn't do anything wrong. But he understood why she felt it was deserved, maybe he wasn't being sensitive enough. He thought saying less about it would have been better to avoid any pain, but maybe it came across as too dismissive. "You're right Mari, I can't know anything if you don't actually tell me what's been happening. I already said I understood why you'd think it was me, I wasn't calling you an idiot for it. It just seemed more likely that if these rumors didn't come from someone that actually knew about the things you did then it'd more likely that people were just being assholes about your PK status in general. If that seems unreasonable or unlikely I'm not going to refute it." Life frowned and rubbed the back of his head not really sure where he was supposed to go from here. It sure was hard trying to be friends with someone who resented you.

"Look... Mari.. I'm not trying to belittle anything I did to you. I just don't want to keep opening old wounds for you by talking about the past. The reason I left for two years was mostly because of it."

  15. Life smirked and shook his head as they continued to walk. "It's fine. I think you stepped in at a great time for me. I still have a lot to do and it can get pretty tiresome to do everything alone. I've been a solo player for a while now, that that I always was, but that's just kind of how things had to turn out in the end."

Life wondered how Mari would react to him becoming friends with one of her little students. Maybe freak out and question his motives. Yeah that seemed about right. They continued to walk until reaching the Inn at the town. Life didn't waste any time changing into something more comfortable upon reaching the safe zone. He wore a cotton shirt and light, grey, sweatpants. Though draped in a black cloak made from wolf fur to keep him warmer before walking inside.

He approached the Inn keeper and asked about accommodation. "One room for two people if that's fine." He turned to Yuki to make sure she was ok with that. "Hope you don't mind, just figured it'd be cheaper this way." He turned back to the Innkeeper. "Also can I get something to eat."

    @Zajcica

  16. It was a little embarrassing that Mari ended up picking up after his fail but that was alright, it was what having a party was about, someone to help when you need it. Life considered the usefulness of such a weapon, it'd completely gut his damage, but the utility of freezing something could be useful. "Hmm, probably not unless freezing a mob was necessary. Don't think I'd like my damage gutted though." Life closed his eyes as he added it into his inventory and picked himself up from the snow pit. "That went pretty well considering how tough it was. I wonder if there will be more bosses like that, stronger versions of past enemies I mean."

Life wiped some snow off of his gear before looking back up to Mari with a slight sigh. "As for you question earlier... I understand why you think I'd be the one spreading rumors. Consider that I was a jungle hermit for two years and that should probably be alibi enough." As morbid as it sounded he was trying to convince her to love killing, not random players. "Keep in mind that not everyone is going to be understanding about orange crystals. It's probably less rumors and more disdain for PK status, if that makes sense."

    @Mari

  17. It didn't look as though anything was going to get in the way of Yuki's good mood now. Which was impressive considering she was a popsicle. Life smiled to match hers, it was nice being able to be positive about the game for once, leveling with Yuki was nice. "There we go. That's the Yuki I met initially. I'd say we should keep going but it looks like its getting dark. Let's continue the quest chain tomorrow." Life looked down at the HUD's clock, if it weren't so dark all the time on floor four it'd have been obvious that it was already nine in the evening. "Hmm lets head toward snow frost. Can probably get a tavern for the night if you don't have somewhere to be."

He smirked and began walking towards the settlement. It was funny despite being to this floor numerous times he had only been to its main town once before.

  18. NOTE FOR ALL PLAYERS: There is no established post order. Feel free to post as much as you want in this thread without even having to interact with players if you wish. This is just intended for players to get as many posts for gathering eggs as they like. I'll be closing this thread a week before the end of the event so everyone has enough time to collect their eggs and hand them in. This should allow everyone to have plenty of time to post even if we're a few pages into it. The one rule you must uphold however is not to double post, that's it.

"WELCOME TO THE EASTER EGG EXTRAVAGANZA PLAYERS OF AINCRAD" An unusually loud voice called from the center of the town of beginnings. A notification popped up on his screen, and from the looks of it was popping up for every player out there.

You have 22 days to gather as  many as possible for the end of the event.
Don't miss out on your chance to rare rewards.

Life smirked, another event huh. He didn't remember something like this occurring last Easter, though perhaps it was Kayabas sick way of motivating them. Oh well. Since I'm back I guess I should take advantage of it while I can. Life turned his head to see where the voice came from, his eyes falling on three stooge looking characters. That's probably the ticket. He figured he didn't need to talk to them until he had enough eggs to redeem, and if this was like any other MMO event they probably wouldn't be told what they could redeem until they had enough of them to do it. But maybe that was just his excuse for no having to talk to the weird looking NPC's.

Joyful screams began sprouting at different locations, it seemed the eggs had already begun to spawn. "Guess its a big ol' Easter egg hunt then." He mused to himself.  Life headed outside the safe zone to begin his hunt for the eggs, and too his surprise right outside of it were five eggs waiting for him. He picked them up and added them to his collection, feeling like a bit of a child. "Eggcelent."

  19. Seemed Mari was eager to finish the boss off, running up to its shoulder and aggressively stabbing into it multiple times. There was something unsettling about watching someone with a dagger stabbing something over and over. As bosses health dropped into the red, another hollow wail echo'd through the tundra. It was not going down without a fight. Life sprang into action, realizing that he couldn't allow it to make its never move or they'd both be in trouble. The boss stabilized and swung its mass of ice of an arm out at Life, causing him to dodge backwards and fall into a pit of snow. "Ugh, this landscape is so fickle." He groaned as he tried to pull himself back up.

The boss reached up over at its shoulder while he struggled to get up, grabbing at the small player on its shoulder and squeezing Mari tightly causing a hefty chunk of damage. The boss lifted his arm with the player still in its grasp and threw her into a frozen lake, causing her to skid over the frozen waters and tumble. It let out another cry of anger as its health ticked from the bleed damage, shards of ice falling off of its body as if it were beginning to melt down and crumble. Just one more attack would put an end to this.

  20. Mari continued with her usual output of damage with eternal cyclone sword art, watching as the once resilient boss now having its health quickly dropping into the yellow. Looks like its back to me then Life sheathed his blade to prepare for Iai, he wouldn't let it have a chance to do anything to them, he wasn't the type to risk it when others lives were on the line. His eyes darted over its body as it slowly began to move again, letting out a chilling howl from its icy maw. The sound was similar to vicious winds that blew inside a hollow ice cave during a blizzard.

It lifted its icicle of an arm up in an attempt to slam them both. "Sorry sir, you don't get to play today." Life smirked as he rushed underneath its forearm, allowing his blade to erupt from his saya and cut into its hand. The force was enough to simultaneously cut open half of its hand and send its arm crashing into its own face, staggering the snow cone back and having to use its other arm to brace for support so it wouldn't topple over. If he were a lame protagonist he'd probably yell 'switch' right now.

    "All you Mari."

  21. Life figured she'd be upset about him taking the lead but at this point he was more concerned about just getting the job done. Besides there was no reason for her to risk her own life when she wasn't as tanky as him yet. She'd get there eventually but not right now, but for some reason he felt as though he should probably give her a chance to prove herself, after all the dragons so far have been tough on her and embarrassed her pride. Maybe if he let her handle one of the bosses attacks she'll feel better about herself. "Alright then, I'll let it come for you this time."

Life stepped back as Yuki took the lead, the dragon now more excited with power at the sight of the weaker player. It ate Yukis attack like it was nothing, standing its ground as her lance pierced through its scales as it opened its maw to charge a frosty attack. Life's eyes widened realising he had made a mistake and rushed back in with his katana at the ready. But he wasn't quick enough, a second later and a beam of frost erupted from the tiny dragon and froze yukis entire lower body and half of her upper body.

A second after that and the dragon was no more, a follow up of strikes causing it to cease existing just like the other dragons Life had dispatched. He sighed and returned his blade, frowning at looking over at Yukis frozen body. "You can't seem to catch a break can you." He smirked and ruffled her hair, knowing she couldn't retaliate. "Give it a minute and the freeze will break on its own."

  22. Life couldn't help but laugh at her retaliation. So she was just like all the others then. It was funny she would compare him others that tried and failed before him, as if they were a common sight to see in Aincrad. No. Like she said before nothing had changed, being the selfish antagonist was the norm here. No one was trying to be a hero anymore. People only wanted to survive.

Life continued to laugh as yet another misconception arose, he tried a lot harder this time to contain himself, since honestly it wasn't completely that funny. He just  simply couldn't help but find the irony in the conversation he was having with this player killer right now. But it seemed he wasn't the only one struggling to contain laughter, it didn't look as though she was exactly taking herself seriously when she called him a bringer of light.

"You know what, you're pretty funny. But it seems you have the wrong idea about me." Life relaxed his shoulders and exhaled, taking his hand off the hilt of his katana and instead folding his arms over his abdomen, while holding his palm open and looking into it. "No... I'm no saint or hero. But I think every player could be considered an ambassador of this world. My past here is dark. I've done horrible things Hidden, so horrible I might as well have an orange crystal too. There'd be no way I could call myself a good person at this point or someone worthy of admiration. But we're all the same in the end... we're all human. That's why I think It's possible to make a change and start helping each other instead of continuing to step over each other." He looked back up, trying to peer into her hood to make eye contact.

"At the end of the day the goal is to survive. Everyone has their own opinion on how to do that. This is a VRMMORPG. Cooperation between players is the cornerstone of this game. Without a group of players large enough willing to work together to take down floor bosses we'd be trapped in here forever. Without crafters we'd have no gear or consumables to be strong enough to level in order to come close to being able to challenge them. People just need to get over themselves and stop thinking they're special or that their lives are worth more than anyone else. One day this game will be over, and all the virtual points we've accumulated over the years will be lost forever, and be meaningless going forward with our lives. We'll all probably wake up malnourished cripples in need of years of rehabilitation. Believe it or not, there will be an end to this, as there is an end to all things. As we near closer to floor 100 people will begin to understand these facts, I'd just like to speed up the process."

  23. It was hard hearing Mari talk about what he had done in the past, but what confused him was her question. Was he spreading malicious rumors about her? If he was being honest with himself he couldn't be one hundred percent sure, a lot of what he thought he understood about what happened was false apparently. But if he had to answer with a yes or no he'd have to disagree, he was horrible to her, cruel, but he was a jungle hermit for two years. There'd have been no way that any rumors going around today would have any significance from his past.

Life took a deep breath, and just as he opened his mouth Mari was charging into combat. It seemed they had traveled further into the frozen wasteland than he thought. It looked as though she had taken out all her aggression out on the boss in that one attack and it paid off. "Stunned and bleed, nice." He confirmed to himself. He knew that was his que to follow up, he'd have to capitalize on the opportunity while he could.

The quite literally bigger and meaner version of avalanche as the information adequately put it, stumbled onto one knee leaning closer towards Life, making his job a whole lot easier. He rushed in, running up onto its frozen arm that held onto the ground for support, and used it as a pathway straight to its head. He withdrew his blade, carving a path along its arm and shoulder as he traveled upwards. He came eye level with frosty the snow freak slamming the edge of his blade into the side of its head before following up with a multitude of slashes across its face before kicking off its temple and keeping enough distance to react upon the completion of its stun duration.

He watched as its health bar dipped down, it wasn't even halfway yet. "This one seems a lot tougher than the chumps we've gone up against the last couple times huh."

  24. It seemed a little strange to Life that she spoke about this topic with such optimism and a smile. This kind of topic usually bothered him and kept him up at night, but it wasn't like he was about to dump all of hiss issues on her now.

"Yeah.. Well It might take a bit longer than three months if I'm being honest with you. We'll have to relearn how to walk, gradually go back onto solid foods. I don't think they'd be giving you hormonal treatment while under these conditions if I'm being honest. Once we do get strong enough to eat and walk we'll still have to get our strength back and do half a year of exercise to regain the same lung capacity that we used to have. But the hardest part will be the mental and emotional recovery and regaining educational skills, we lost a lot of time and we'll be an outcasted group of people who'll have to fight to find our place back in society. For some of the people here it could take years of rehabilitation. But best not think about that too hard."

Life sighed as they came towards the next dragon. "Sorry little one, your time has come again for another group of players to slay you."

Life grabbed onto his katana as he charged forward, judging by the last few dragons he'd know this attack wouldn't be enough to kill it, however it'd be close enough. The broker said it could freeze players, so as long as he avoided the breath attack they should be fine. The dragon looked smugly with aggression as Life charged in, and charged right back at him, rather unexpectedly. It sunk its claws into his left arm before Life swatted him away and let his sword art follow with a multitude of strikes, leaving it wide open for Yuki to follow up. It's health bar already dropped into the red
