  1. Thanks for the info :)

    yes I meant simultaneously.

For example, two Smiths forge a weapon together. The question here is would both consume a material making one item, but have better rolls, or would only one be consumed and better rolls, or is it just feasibly not possible?

  2. Tristan heard the faint whisperings of melody in the air. He suspected it was an A minor, but couldn't tell from the distance.

The sound became louder with a crescendo and travelled on the same wavelength as the wind that flew, melody riding along the air.

Then, the music left one final mark in the air which rang across the entire field. With its teary departure, there was only the hush of the wind. The breeze made a slight 'woosh' sound as the grass and trees rustled from it.

Tristans long hair also picked up from the wind, partially covering his face. He stood there, taking in the sound.

"Hah....if only I had an instrument to practice with. I wonder who that person playing was too..."

  3. "Floor 2."

Here he was again, looking over the rolling plains. He was probably going to get sick of the sight of pseudo-Scotland soon. For now though, he had to bear with it and fight this hermit in a cave who could teach him solo cello properly. For once, he was actually motivated for himself to do something, rather than wanting to just 'get on with it'.

"At least the weather is better since the last time I was here." He knew he was cursing himself saying this, however that didn't matter. He could manage it somehow. It wasn't like he recently gained an allergy to water either, so rain should be a non-issue in this journey.

He walked on forward, the grass brushing against his feet and a light breeze combing his long, flowing crimson hair. He really felt like he needed some armour, but he supposed that could wait for now. Still, he would like the security of armour clinging to his skin and offering protection against oncoming forces.

"Oh well, gotta live with it for now."

  4. Tristan felt a real desire for music. The sheer lack of it was quite unnerving to his ears.

He had never realised it before, but he became almost dependent on music. Which he couldn't blame himself for really either.

However with the power of system assistance, one could only imagine what with instruments you could do. When cooking is done automatically, imagine using the system to assist playing. He could sample and loop music most likely. He felt with that the inspiration to make something magical. He should cover the songs he could still remember from his time in the real world.

But what could he play? He never could do guitar or anything of the sort. The only instrument he could play to a competent level was in his school orchestra the cello, an instrument with a calm but powerful bass like his voice. His singing was never that great either.

    Tristan sighed as he thought.

The cello...of course! With the power of system assistance and a bit of creativity, he could do something great with it! Hopefully having music will solve his apathy too, since lately he hasn't felt like doing anything. This could be the big change.

  5. Honestly, we do need a dice system, without it loses a lot of what makes this site the way it was to begin with. I was drawn to this RP site because of the dice system, and while I did have my struggles (ex. one of my quests took a while to kill 5/5 HP mobs to gain 4 mats to finish --> say 2-3 pages long), i enjoyed how it would be realistic.

That said, there will always be cheaters, I do admit, sometimes I do role first to see if the mob would miss an attack first, or I would land a good hit, at the start of each battle, however without a dice system, it could get worst. However, these type are the minor type that we would have to live with, now if someone kept rolling 3 20's on the loot dice in a row, that is somthing that we would have to deal with.

I do agree that anything competive or drops a good loot (uncommon or higher) - [boss battles] should require some sort of vertification.

Basically going to agree to this.

While not perfect, the dice gives people a reason not to twist in their favour. In a free form its very easy to twist into your own favour, even unintentionally.

  6. Tristan nodded to what she said. It seemed perfectly reasonable to go for some extra materials becuase of their chances and he didn't blame her. Over confidence could lead to issues and wasted time. The more he talked to her in general, the better she seemed as a person in his eyes. Someone who seeked humanity out of the game, rather than pure self-satisfaction from clearing and the such.

"Well that seems perfectly reasonable. Do you want to gather through monster or general non-combat farming? Or both? I have no preference."

Tristan gestured with his hands the two sides in terms of choice like a scale.

It was essentially a toss up between a lot of loot in a short time, along with col, or safely farming over a longer period of time. It was probably a question posed to all people who wished for some extra materials.

  7. Cheaters are forced to wear a cursed pendant called the 'Lucky Pendant of Confirmed Cheating', which has -5 in all Loot Rolls ;)

In all seriousness though, even then I would only enforce "ya cheatin" on people who always get the highest roll/dont get hit when fighting monsters. After all, there is only so much Deus ex Machina you can pull until God just wants to stay inside the machine wants you to bugger off and let him sleep. Honestly, those who consistently cheat are ruining the experience for themselves. Besides, cheaters would be really obvious with their always perfect rolls.

Even if you happen to have just weirdly good luck, do what I do and have Karma go right back at them. I miraculously got two 20 LD rolls for rares, so I had my character get trampled by a boar. Or if in a fight it looks like you're gonna win this way too easy, give them a fighting chance. I earlier actually buffed an enemy attack against me with their roll because otherwise I'd have left with only a scratch.

I suppose this is a case of fun roleplaying vs winning. Right now, we enforce a role of fun, so its not so much an issue.

However some people may be desperate to not have their character decease and cheat because of that. If we want to employ a system that say, knocks them unconscious rather than killing them outright, maybe less people would cheat. I right now wouldnt mind Tristan dying, but imagine a year down the line when I have invested a lot into him. I'd be, entirely honestly, real pissed if he died and have all the effort go to purgatory.

  8. So I had a thought while I was debating if and what profession to take for Tristan, which at the moment is veering towards Performer if it also means painting or blacksmithing.

Can two professions work together to improve the modifiers on rolls and for general RP'ing?

One case would be a cafe or diner which has two people cooking, or say a Smithy which has two blacksmiths and therefore improve the chance of a better item forged. They would be minor improvements to rolls, say +2 at best to avoid it being OP or a necessary thing.

This was not just from a modifier perspective, but can lead to plenty of RP'ing concepts too. Say, a married couple that work together on a profession, or simply friends that hang around each other a lot.

    Thoughts?

  9. My opinion is the current system is fine because as said before, cheaters would cheat their way out regardless of the dice rolls. It helps for me give me a RNG to work off when doing battles etc.

For anything PVP competitive or such like the arena, then a verifiable dice system would need to be in place. Otherwise I'm okay how it is.

    • Rolled a 3 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 4 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 4 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 8 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 19 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Tristan breathed in, then out. His body began to glow, as it was a sword skill where the body was the sword.

I must be powerful, striking like the spear. When I hold the spear, it becomes the spear. When I lunge my body, it becomes the spear. When I strike with the spear, I become the spear. Become like the spear.

His body glowed orange from the top half of his body, then flashed out as he punched at high speed, unleashing a combo at the rock of a high number he didn't pay attention to.

    "ATATATATATATATATATATA-AAATAAAAA!"

The final blow struck the rock and split it, sending surges of cracks all across the rock, from which it crumbled to dust. A message showing the sword skill popped up "Hundred Crack Fist!"

Huh, well the crack in the name seemed suitable, seeing as he cracked a rock to smithereens.

A message popped up with his HUD "Martial Arts Learned!"

Tristan sighed and slumped to his knees in exhaustion, very much still in cooldown from his sword skill. He did it. He had gained and owned for himself martial arts, striking with the hands like the very spear he wields.

Tristan put his equipment back on for travel and walked back down the mountain, leaving the dust to settle for itself.

"Aaaat-AAAAHH YE censored censored!!!" A punch went awry, hitting a pebble outcrop of the rock and breaking one of his fingers as it landed. His hands already sore, this was painful. It also stopped him from any more activity for the day, using the day to nurse his hand back to health for tomorrow. Many expletives about igneous rocks were spoken of that day in a hut as a man ate on some bread miserably.

    Day 7

Tristan HP 5/11 (-1 from broken finger)

    Rock HP 19/100

    Status: Laughing in his face

    • Rolled a 1 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 5 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 2 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 8 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 17 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Tristan was getting the hang of it and into a routine, shouting in inspiration to punch more with each hit, hitting where his eyes judged there were weakpoints in the rock. Each time he punched, a visual crack came where he punched, which filled him with more confidence. Like all the other days, his slim but muscled body sweated as he punched, a body built through exercise and combat in the real world.

He consumed bread and water at the end of the day and was starting to feel like a real martial artist.

    Day 6

    Rock HP 20/100

    • Rolled a 3 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 7 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 1 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 5 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 20 on the d20 (loot) dice.

"Aaaaaataaaaah!" His punches felt good and impactful today. They were cleanly hitting the rock and he could feel the rock crack slightly more at each hit. He felt as though he was beginning to understand the way of his own style of martial arts, which, like his spear, was consecutive hits at weakpoints. Martial arts was not strength, it was about using the opponent against themselves.

He consumed bread and water and slept peacefully, content with the results of the day. More like this and he'll have it down soon. Martial arts turned out to be a long and hard path, but possibly he could overcome it and gain the confidence he wanted.

    Day 5

    Rock HP 37/100

    • Rolled a 4 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 2 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 1 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 9 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 6 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 9 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Tristan felt a slight slump from lack of energy today than compared to yesterday, but it was nothing like the second day. He was confident though that he would manage this before provisions ran out, even if they began to dwindle. Then again, he still had the Pork he could cook and the fact he technically can't starve to death. He consumed bread and water at the end of the day when his hands began hurting too much and his shoulders were sore.

    Day 4

    Rock HP 57/100

    • Rolled a 3 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 4 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 1 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 12 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 11 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Today Tristan was more confident. His thoughts of enthusiasm to conquer the challenge were replaced of ones saying "Let's just get this over with shall we?". That one he said out loud too, not that anything but any possible avian wildlife was listening to him. His fists felt like they did more impact to the rock and he could feel it starting to show weakness, but he still had plenty while to go before it gave way.

He consumed another piece of bread and water at the end of the day and slept when he felt he did all his body warranted for the day.

    Day 3

    Rock HP 66/100

    • Rolled a 2 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 5 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 8 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 5 on the d20 (loot) dice.
Another day, another punch to throw at a rock. Already however his apathy was taking over and he was not feeling energetic today. The punches against the rock felt like they had no impact and his knuckles were feeling the pain. He could feel this was a long journey. He was just so happy he had plenty of provisions, of which he ate a bread and drank one bottle of water for that day. When the day was over, he set up camp at the hut next to the dungeon entrance, just as he had last night. Typical video games and their practical occurring structures.

    Day 2

    Rock HP 77/100

    • Rolled a 3 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 2 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 6 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 10 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 18 on the d20 (loot) dice.
For a first day, it was not shabby. He was for once, usually a rarity, teeming with energy. His body pumped with adrenaline and was ready for the task at hand.

"Ata!" He punched the rock hard, then again. It was sore against the knuckles, but the adrenaline covered that up. He was ready to punch some more for the rest of the day. Which he did.

    Rock HP 82/100

  10. When he approached the top of the mountain, Tristan let himself lie on a nearby rock. Even for someone physically fit like him, that was tiring. His body complained with anaerobic respiration. It made him think how realistic SAO felt, where you could be hungry or tired and such, even if in real life you were sustaining no such burden. It was something that got him thinking, giving him food for thought as he rested for an hour.

An hour later, much recovered, he approached the large rock that covered the entrance to the main dungeon. Apparently boulders rolling from the top of the hill due to weather erosion was very common, so the entrance got blocked very often even if the rock before was broken. Just his luck he supposed, or most likely a game mechanic to ensure more people can learn the martial arts skill.

He put away his equipment and was now topless, looking at the rock. It was cold, but soon he would be making so much sweat for himself, he won't feel the cold.

    HOW THIS WILL WORK.

Each post will be rolled for a Loot Dice with no modifiers active. Each day will have him doing damage 1-20 to the rock of 100 HP, of which each warrants its own post. Doing a roll of 1 will end up with an injury and warrant a loss of 1 HP point.

  11. Tristan put his pickaxe back in his inventory and looked around him. Luckily no mobs were nearby to be alerted of his presence. At an HP so close to half, to be ambushed now would be horrendously bad timing. With this not the case though, Tristan was just fine. He still wondered how he got the material just then though, feeling so sure he only just failed. Maybe this pendant was definitely more useful than he thought...

Tristan continued up the mountain, the wind now overbearing on him. It would be a while until he made it up, but with materials in hand, his conviction was renewed to finish this quest, which he was now so close to managing. It was now just him, and the mountain. With all that snow...and clouds...and such a high altitude to brave as well.

"Why did this mountain have to be so darned high?" He said rhetorically out loud to himself.

  12. Tristan got confident and tried one more time. He really felt lucky now. After this though, he will scale the mountain to stop dawdling, for he had a quest to finish.

He raised the pickaxe one more time and swung it. He felt as he went down though already the dread of failing, but he swore his pendant glowed for a bit and suddenly, he struck gold again. Maybe he only just managed it?

    • Rolled a 3 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 14 on the d20 (loot) dice.

    Loot Roll 14 + 1. 1 Mat gained.

  13. Tristan breathed in, then out. He took one more collective sigh, then raised the pickaxe to strike the rock. He focused on only the rock and hoped for his luck that he had before to return.

...Which it did. Once again, he managed to strike gold and some gold ore came into his inventory. Well, ain't that practical?

    • Rolled a 2 on the d4 dice.
    • Rolled a 4 on the d6 dice.
    • Rolled a 7 on the d8 dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 7 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 15 on the d20 (loot) dice.

    Loot Roll 15 + 1. 1 Mat gained.

  14. Tristan vowed to at least try two more times at this, to even it out. Hopefully he would actually gain more than one material from this, rubbing his lucky pendant which had a plethora of symbols of luck on it. The pendant was rather small in size, but the fancy material made it look impressive.

Tristan hoisted up the pickaxe and struck once again the rocks. He bounced again, failing utterly and landing on his back from the recoil as sparks flew. At least he could give it one more shot.

    • Rolled a 3 on the d4 dice.

    • Rolled a 10 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 3 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Loot Roll 3 + 1. No Mats gained.

  15. Motivated, Tristan again attempted to strike the outcrop of rocks with his pickaxe. He swung it over his head and into the rocks.

This time however, he failed miserably. So badly he fell back onto his posterior from the ricochet of the hit. He scratched his rear frm the soreness of hitting the hard ground.

    • Rolled a 3 on the d6 dice.

    • Rolled a 4 on the d10 (battle) dice.
    • Rolled a 11 on the d12 (craft) dice.
    • Rolled a 1 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Loot Roll 1 + 1. No Mats gained.

  16. As he approached the base of the final mountain, he noticed an outcrop of rocks. Perfect! Materials were just what he needed. Things like this would be ideal for getting himself some armour. Maybe he could get Lessa to forge it....

Leaving that aside, he took out a pickaxe from his inventory. It was a basic pickaxe with no statistical bonuses, however it would serve its purpose. Maybe another time he would look for a better one.

Tristan raised the pickaxe above him and struck gold, literally. Some ore came out, which was a great first start.
