  1. When he was done with the song, Tristan did a bit of tuning on the guitar. As the 22 year old man, though not looking the age, tuned his guitar, he wondered what to play next. Then something popped to mind. It was a song he wasn't very familiar with, but nonetheless he should be able to manage it.

As he tuned, he looked around the room. He noticed Lessa, but couldn't otherwise see anyone of any particular interest, so kept playing. Besides, Lessa looked busy with her own thing at the moment. It was at that point he wondered.

Tristan was a grown man at 22, with a stable and reasonably earning job. How many of these were even close to his age? Lessa had an air of maturity around her, but probably wasn't older than him. The rest still had the young faces of teenagehood, though lines in their faces showed the burden of being shoved into the harsh reality of SAO. He could understand how being trapped and being in such a situation could distress some, especially at a younger age when chemicals in your brain were still cooking like a hotpot and causing an emotional mess. He sighed, wishing he wasn't such a low level. Otherwise he would offer more than just words of wisdom from his elder age.

He strummed the entire string set, now sounding how it should. Now just to hope he could remember all the chords for this song...

  2. Yeah, my jujitsu sensei was ridiculous. We had a guy who was the most densely muscled person I've seen.

Not that schwarzenegger kind. This was pure muscle from doing martial arts and strength. His entire body felt like brick.

Yet our sensei could twist him like rubber, even as an ageing man.

  3. Kick boxers also shatter their bones so they repair harder in their leg through careful training, making their legs harder.

Ive done too many things in my life to have a crowning achievement.

I've gotten several belts in judo and jujitsu, done fencing in a local school tournament, fight historical reenactment where I snipe with a spear, can dance with my fire poi and fire staff, won school poetry writing contests, gone to aeronautical engineering contests, participated in Lego Mindstorms contests, participated in medieval festivals in Germany, co-run 100 people size camps, did a cabaret act where I sang the Lumberjack song then went into drag and sang Sweet Transvestite, participate in roller derby contests...yeah I'm quite a mixed bag lol.

  4. Climbing the Mountain by Yuan Mei

I burned incense, swept the earth, and waited

    for a poem to come...

Then I laughed, and climbed the mountain,

    leaning on my staff.

  5. Hmmm...I can think of three.

Jak 3. A Naughty Dog masterpiece which I had a blast with.

Star Wars Battlefront 2. How can someone not love that game?!

Any of the Armored Core games, because I love giant mechs. And its from the guys who make Dark Souls.

An honorable mention is any version of Elite. Its the first proper 3D game made and it is just a fun thing which has a lot packed in it for something the size of an email.

  6. Tristan reacted quickly in reflex from having used spears a lot. He knew if he was forced to wield swords, which he was unfamiliar with, he'd be screwed.

Tristan rammed the butt of the spear into the first wolf to remove them from their leg and span around to attack the second wolf which attacked Lessa. He didn't give a toss if one was easier to kill, he said he would protect her, which he will.

With the spin, Tristan thrust out the spear with accuracy to the side of the wolf.

Rolled a 6 on the d10 (battle) dice.

The spear ripped into their side and latched to their leg, from which Tristan flung the wold away and off their spear. He took a few breaths to recover, paying close attention to their movements.

"I think you can see now why some armour would be handy." He jested, as he ignored the pain in his leg, where the clothes were beginning to stain red.

    Tristan 12/15

    Lessa 17/17

    Wolf 1 5/15

    Wolf 2 12/15

  7. The first wolf cried in pain, now dramatically close to very low health. They barked, though it sounded more like a yelp from their profuse bleeding. Nevertheless, they bared their fangs.

Rolled a 10 on the d10 (battle) dice.

The wolf came straight at Tristan and bit their leg, to which he replied with a "Aaaah ya censored!".

The second wolf, still unharmed too this opportunity to attack Lessa, running at her full speed with a flying bite attack towards her shoulder.

Rolled a 6 on the d10 (battle) dice.

Luckily for Less a, her armour shrugged off the damage. It just made him painfully aware why he needed some armour that she would craft.

    Tristan 12/15

    Lessa 17/17

    Wolf 1 5/15

  8. (Oh my, this is a good roll to start with)

Tristan enjoyed the quiet, where all they did was listen to the sound of their breathing, the footsteps crunching against the ground and the ambiance of the world so expertly crafted.

Sure enough, Lessa found them something quite to deal with. "I do like people that don't do things in halves" Tristan spoke with some mocking in his voice, as though playing around.

He held his Dragon Spear firmly and the weapon glowed, then he thrusted forward at great speed, slicing with his spear.

    Rolled a 2 on the d4 dice.

    Rolled a 4 on the d6 dice.

    Rolled a 3 on the d8 dice.

Rolled a 10 on the d10 (battle) dice.

Rolled a 5 on the d12 (craft) dice.

Rolled a 15 on the d20 (loot) dice.

The spear shot forward with his sword skill without mercy, ripping open their side. The wolf cried out, virtual ligaments torn apart.

    Tristan 15/15

    Lessa 17/17

    Wolf 1 10/15 (base + spear 2h 1 + dragon spear + double crit = 5)

    Wolf 2 15/15

  9. I think I like the Raven so much though not for the thing itself, but the harmoisation Omnia did of it, which really resonated for me when I saw them live at Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum in Dortmund.

But yeah, I'd go with that its just a different thing a performer can do as a task for rolls to inprove their rank like they can with songs.

  10. Anyone can have a hobby and do stuff, but I think the profession system accounts the role as your 'paid job'. I think also the two jobs model falls through when you consider the second job being clearing the game or collecting mats, seeing as we do within a profession here more than one would usually, with the farming of mats and such.

However that isn't to say we can't forge poison weapons etc. maybe though having two people with those roles could make such special items together, seeing as those would be rather exquisite items.

At the moment, playing guitar is a hobby for Tristan. However when he becomes a performer, its his livelihood, farming enemy aside. Sake goes for other roles. Asuna may have been a good cook, but she wasn't a paid chef, mostly because she was frontlining and Kirito is greedy and wants her food for himself.

  11. "censored this. censored that. censored everything."

Tristan was rather irritated. The strings on the guitar broke and there were no replacements on sale. Instead he had to go find some White Bulls, vicious cattle that thrived in snow. They were known to have impaled unknowing players when they weren't paying attention.

Tristan saw two figures close together in the horizon. He stood still and looked closer, putting his hand over his eyes as shade to help see better.

It what appeared to be Lessa, her blond hair and her claymore quite visible, and some other chap. He had no idea who he was, but it looked as though they were sharing a heartfelt moment. He wondered what kind of connection they had, which could be of a friend or a romantic one.

It had Tristan thinking, now paying more attention to the horizon.

His previous girlfriend left him in real life after having been with her a good while. His sour relationship with her parents had effectively doomed it from the start and it was amazing they were together as long as they were.

Nonetheless, he was alone. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to find love in SAO though, a virtual world. Would the love found here extend to the real world?

He sighed to himself loudly, though way out of earshot from the couple. Love is confusing and irrational. He wondered if and when he will find it again. He was really jealous of his gay friends.

"Ahh, the burden of being a straight white male..."

    (TimH reference there)

  12. My guess is that it would work with Performers, as that is all part of their entertanment approach. It'd be like song writing and you'd probably roll for it, 20 being the new Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven and 1 being a school child's vomit on a page.

The thing is also that Performer still uses the old profession system, so presumably this, if not retroactively fitted into he current one, could be integrated with the renewing of the system to bring it in line with the other professions.

  13. Tristan kept up with him in fact with great ease. Having skilled in Acrobatics, he could probably do system assisted quadruple backflips in the air, as useless as that would be.

The name of Winstrup brought back memories of a place back in the real world in Germany called Wintrup. It housed a band back then called Kraan.

The real world...Tristan shook his head and continued on, hopping from one to the other.

  14. "How odd. Last time I checked, this wasn't a fantasy world where saying their 'true name' could control people."

Tristan chuckled slightly at the thought of it.

Tristan grinned at her proposal for harder enemies. "Bring it on, I'm curious to see what you have in mind."

He felt at ease at this woman, who was (at least for him) an extrovert of her personal opinion, much like he was.

  15. Tristan thanked him with a nod as he took the guitar, tuning it by ear. It was a while since had played it. With that he attempted to do a song he had done before.

Rolled a 2 on the d20 (loot) dice.

He went completely out of tune with the second note. He flushed slightly in embarassment.

"Ahhh hang on that wasn't it. Lemme try again..."

Rolled a 16 on the d20 (loot) dice.

He was finally hitting the right notes. It was a song he much enjoyed and once he got the tune right, he began singing. It wasn't a perfect performance, but then he was no performer yet.

  16. The boar came back around and went for a charge behind the man, their blindspot. It was the perfect place to hit. Apparently the boar was right too, since they smacked right into the mans leg, sending them flying in the air.

    • Rolled a 9 on the d10 (battle) dice.

I grunted as I got knocked a few meters into the air from the boar, not quite expecting it. This boar was clever and needed to be stopped dead in its tracks.
    "Lightning Bolt!"
My spear gained a yellow aura as a sword skill only possible to engage from the air came crashing down towards the boar. It sunk right into the boar and through them at lightning speed, ripping their guts out of their inner body and splaying them onto the grass.

    • Rolled a 10 on the d10 (battle) dice.

Dealing 4 damage, this instakilled the boar, stopping them dead in their tracks and leaving them for dead. I got up, using the spear as a walking stick from my sore leg.
    Tristan HP 11/13
    Boar HP 0/7

    • Rolled a 11 on the d20 (loot) dice.

35 Col sprang out of their body, which I collected. it was better than nothing so he took I for himself. Maybe I can buy some bread with it

I walked home, limping slightly from my sore leg. My farming was a bit more adventurous than I had planned, but regardless, it yielded results. He called it a successful day.

  17. I twisted around to find where the boar was, so I could stab them straight through. Using the path they were going, I thrusted my spear into the ground where i suspected the boar would be. After all, with some practice one could tell where they were going to go and surprise them with your spearhead.

    • Rolled a 4 on the d10 (battle) dice.
The boar travelled too fast though, the spearhead hitting late. Sinking into the ground, it had no effect on the boar.
  18. The boar looked angrily at the red haired man, who had just sliced their side with the spear. The boar snorted in pain as the spearhead cut across their side, bloodying them.
The boar brought up its hind legs, then ran towards the player at full speed, drunk with rage. They really wanted to end the life of that player for their misdeed, regardless of how they did it.
The tusks came forward and approached them and...

    • Rolled a 3 on the d10 (battle) dice.

Completely missed. The man dodged sideways, expecting their charge. This annoyed the boar further, squealing in rage.
