  1. “You’d need more than the aid of alcohol I think.” Mari retorted, voice turning bitter at his remark. She didn’t like the implication that she was easy, when in reality she had only ever been with the one man – who just so happened to be her ex husband. Mari didn’t mind his flirtatious behavior, and she didn’t mind engaging in it or the exchanges the two shared; certain things just irked her. “You can toot your own horn all you want, since no one else will be tooting it for you.”

Mari rolled her eyes at his next comment. “Yes well I can see the cursor; but it’s not like there is a giant neon sign flashing ELK HERE” Mari exclaimed, mimicking the outline of a flashing sign with her hands. “I know I need to get some skeletons in a cave; your mark is closer, so we’ll hit up some Elk, then go get some Bonefied skeletons!”

  2. Mari, annoyed at Life who started attempting to do some sort of awkward duet with her stopped playing. “Do you mind?” She muttered in an annoyed tone. “This is why I don’t bother playing when people are around – they think it’s perfectly fine to join right on in. It’s frustrating.” Life, just like Tristan had butted in; Mari was very conservative when it came to showing who she really was, beyond the sweet mask, beyond the rough layers; and she didn’t appreciate having that encroached on. If Life had stayed silent; maybe, just maybe she would have kept playing.

Sighing Mari put down the violin, “I don’t get you black bird. You don’t exactly seem like the type of kid who should be in the Crimson Inquisition.”  Her words sounded cold, harsh – but in a sense, it was a ‘Mari way’ of saying ‘Hey you aren’t that bad of a person’ Not that she would ever turn around and say that to him.

Mari turned her gaze to Alkor, the man who had threatened to kill her, twice over. He was somewhat silent now, a few meters away from the two, standing at the edge of the lake. He turned over his shoulder to look at the two. Mari couldn’t really read the expression on his face.

“I think you made your friend feel a tad out of place with your warbled drivel, you should probably go over and see what he wants.” Mari gave a slight shrug, “If he wants to do away with a ‘rabid dog’ such as myself let him know I’d rather him do it in my sleep.”

  3. Mari gave a long low sigh; “Remind me not to cross paths with you outside a town then, eh? Then again, I’d rather that than put up with some of the guilds.” She muttered bitterly. So far, she had made an enemy of the main members of the Crimson Inquisition, and an enemy of whatever guild that Alkor man was in.

Mari rested an elbow on the bar, signaling for another drink, which was quickly placed in front of her.

“A fine lady huh?  I’ve managed to make an enemy of everyone I’ve come across, somehow, I feel a drunken hell hole is exactly where I should be.” Mari began absently twisting a strand of hair around her finger. Lidded blue eyes staring the man before her down, “I’d wager I’ll drive you away just as quickly as I’ve driven everyone else away- eh?”

  4. Mari shrugged, “I’m clearly not suited to be a front liner A-sa-gi. But seeing new sights, its always interesting, No?”

She gave a wry smile to his chivalrous act. “Such a man”  She mused, “But I have to wonder, you wouldn’t be trying to get a fine lady such as myself drunk would you now, eh Asagi?”

They began their trek toward the caves; “So you need – what was it exactly? I know  I need to go crawl into a grimy cave.”

  5.  Mari sighed, uncrossing her arms. She glanced toward Life, “I can’t blame you, little Blackbird.” She murmured, her tone of voice loosing the bite it once had. “Despite what you all seem to think, I’m not one to take death so lightly; I’d rather be struck down than take someone elses life. You may not be a killer, Blackbird, but you might want to remind your guild leader to stop boasting about what he has done. I disapprove of people who boast about taking anothers life.” She glanced away with a ‘tch’ “It makes me sick. So forgive me for being less than pleasant about the whole thing.” Mari shrugged, adding the next remark under her breath, “go ahead and keep your distance, everyone else does.”

She was emotionally drained, her lamenting song; it took a lot out of her. Mari was over the anger and shock of being found at what was probably her most vulnerable. Sadly, because she was at her most vulnerable, Alkors quips had affected more than what they normally would have. “Best put me down then,” She mumbled collecting her violin and  dusting the snow off it. “Since I clearly am rabid.” She walked past him, and sat near Life; against the base of the tree.

“I’m done.” Mari remarked, sad eyes focusing on the strings of her instrument as she finished picking out the snow. With a sigh, Mari started playing it again; the tune of ‘Av Maria’ lilting from the stringed instrument.

  6. Mari stepped off the plate, shaking the dizzying feeling from her head. She was almost sued to it now; she reflected back onto the first few times she used it, and how she’d always, foolishly topple over. The short girl gave a sigh, rubbing her face, she then gave her cheeks a light slap. “Brr, right. Adventure time.”

Turning she noticed that Lotharial had joined her, “Took your time, did a pretty lady distract you again.” Mari gave a light sigh, “My, what are we going to deal with you.” She gasped, “Oh what will I tell Lessa?”  Not that Mari would tell her anything  really; she got the impression that the blonde girl was less than impressed with her and her antics, but it wasn’t really a bother for Mari. If anything, that was more or less the normal reaction from people.

“It’s like a rollercoaster, but without the fun, or the cotton candy.” Mari commented. Equipping her dagger she gave her party member a curt nod, “Right, lets; but don’t dilly dally now~ We got a whole castle to explore.”

  7. The girl wasn’t expecting such an answer from him. A flirtatious comeback? An offhanded compliment? Sure, but a meaningful well thought out response?

“That’s unexpected.” Mari mused quietly. “Here I thought you were just a flirtatious young spunk, meandering through your time here. Who knew eh?”

The teleportation pad was within their sights, and the conversation between the two had fallen short – allowing a sort of serene silence to settle between the two. “It’s probably good to have that tie to reality. Reminds you of who you are.” Mari finally spoke, her tone more serious than it usually was. It was warm, affectionate, almost motherly.

“From what I’ve noticed, people forget themselves so easily in here; it irks me, it pisses me off. I get so angry and mouth off at them, but even I forget that those people. They’re just children. They were probably lost, alone – unknowing how to deal with things they turn to violence and arrogance. Wear a mask of power to hide the fear. When I think of it that way, its actually sad. I feel bad for them, it’s like they are beyond help now.”

Mari stepped up onto the teleportation pad; turning to Lotharian. “I don’t wish death upon anyone, but – sometimes, one must wonder; is it almost a courtesy to allow them to stay here?  To die here without coming to the realization of the repercussions of their actions in this lavish world?”

She finished, giving Lotharian a wry smile, “Ah, but what do I know; eh? Floor 1”

And with that, she was whisked off to the first floor.

  8. Mari laughed, an honest laugh. It was not often she was able to do that. “Oh come now Asagi~” She teased, “A man with your intellect should surely be able to detect sarcasm, no?” She gave another laugh, Hearing his remark. “Hush now dear, we are in public.” She chided, waging a finger in his direction.

Mari, almost skipping a few steps ahead of him before turning on her heel to walk backwards as she grinned a cunning grin. “Are you too enamored with my beauty to care? Or perhaps your heart goes doki-doki for your blonde haired friend?”

They were now out on the prairie; slowly making a beeline for the transportation area.

  9. As if being stalked by the very man who said he’d kill her wasn’t enough; Life just so happened to fall into her, well, life again. “What?” Mari stepped back, entire form visibly shaking now, “you were spying on me?” She snapped. Face red with a mixture of hurt, embarrassment and a touch of anger. Ok, a handful of anger. Alkor didn’t respond to her, instead he approached Life, helping him up. He mentioned something to the other man but Mari didn’t quite catch what it was.

She took another step back, almost falling over in the snow, “Or are you in cahoots?” Mari questioned, gripping the violin tighter in one hand, the other wiping the wet traces of tears away from her face. Now was not the time for reminiscing.  Came to rest? And Life just so happened to be here too? Coming to rest and just so happened to come across the very girl he threatened to kill?

    Oh no.

Mari wasn’t buying into that bull of a story.

“Again with the death threats?” Mari asked with a roll of her eyes. “I am so sick of death threats – you say one wrong thing to someone and they are all-“

She changed her voice, using a mocking tone. “Oh I will smite you where I stand.”

She shook her head, throwing her violin into the snow before her, stamping her foot as though she was a child. “I’m [ceonsored] sick of it. Half of you lot wouldn’t do that in the real world. It’s – Gah…” Mari shook her head not knowing how else to voice her frustrations.

It was then that Alkor mentioned something she wasn’t expecting, his voice changed  - tone somewhat pensive, almost considerate. “No one was meant to hear that.” Mari finally mumbled in response to his question about her singing.

  10. Mari scratched her chin, "You're an odd one Moartea. Not many people thank me for my opinion, I'm too blunt it seems."

Just as Mari was begining to think this Moartea fellow wasn't really that bad to talk to, he had pulled out a book. A BOOK? What the censored !  Mari thought that to be extremely rude of him. Granted their conversation was light at best, but it was still a conversation nonetheless. If someone had done that to her in reality she would have picked up the book and thrown it out the nearest window.

"You know...." Mari began in an annoyed tone. "For someone so formal with your speech - you don't seem all that well mannered. Taking out a book in the middle of the conversation?" She asked, her voice raising slightly.  "It's downright inconsiderate."

The quick to anger girl huffed, crossing her arms over her chest, turning her attention back toward the ocean.

  11. “Lasst Uns Trinken!” Mari’s german was horrible. Atrocious- her accent was poor, and her pronunciation was worse, she had no idea what the man at the bar had said, but she did know how to say ‘Let us Drink’ one of the few ‘valuable’ phrases she had learnt abroad.

Who would have thunk it? Mari was beginning to feel mildly buzzed- an empty tankard sat before her, and she had another clasped tightly in her tiny hands.

    The annoyance she felt from earlier was slowly dissipating, feeling a tad more at ease Mari sauntered over to the man at the bar. She clambered up on a stool to sit next to him. Grinning as she traced the rim of the tankard with her finger she asked;

“What’s a nice place like you doin’ in a guy like this?”

With her speech, it was clear that she wasn’t exactly drunk, but intended it to be some poorly performed joke.

  12.

Mari noticed Lotharian chuckle to himself, she didn’t question it. He seemed to be in good spirits and they were slowly rubbing off on her. Thus far he was the only one she had really been able to get along with. So he was spared the snide quip for the time being, thatw as until he made his own comment about her failure to notice how he had gained any sort of leeway within Aincad.

“How can I notice when this is the first time we’ve-“ She paused, placing emphasis on the next word, “Hooked up; since the Tavern. At most all I can say is that you’re looking a tad rough around the edges. Is that the look you’re going for? Big bad boy for the ladies?”

Stepping in closer Mari looped an arm around his, giving his bicep a squeeze. “Mayhaps you have grown stronger. Does this mean I get to use you as my shield?” She asked lightheartedly before letting him go.

  13. Mari nodded in agreement, "Mm, I don't do well with others. The amount of death threats I've received," She shook her head, "You'd think the game was filled with nothing but self entitled brats."

Mari stopped noticing some cows grazing on the grass before her, "mmmm that depends - what level are you? I've just hit 7 recently, if we can One hit then - it'd be better for us."

  14. “Oh dear, I didn’t mean for the boy to scamper off.” Mari mused, her voice slowly returning to her usual snarky tone. It was just the two of them now. Mari and Lotharian, or Asagi- as he seemed to be called. “Well, A-Sa-gi~” She purred, leaning back on the chair. “I guess intrigueing is one way to put our…” She paused, feigning a contemplative look. “Our gathering.”

Mari grinned, Lotharian was one of the more interesting characters she had met, and thus far was the only one who she hadn’t gotten into an immediate argument with. As he leaned back, she leant forward, placing her elbows on the table.

“You’d be the only one, A-sa-gi.” Mari teased, as he stated she could count on him; that he wouldn’t be an enemy. She accepted the friend request from him, hearing an odd ‘ding’ as the confirmation rang through her ears. “Anything mmm?” Mari mused, pushing herself up onto the table, crawling toward the philandering man.

Mari swung her legs around so that she now sat in front of Lotharian, feet dangling freely either side of him. Extending her hand toward him, she allowed her thumb to graze over his lips, leaning in to whisper against his ear. “The roll isn’t free, sweetheart – I’ll expect a favour in return.”

He got up with a wink and left Mari to her own devices.

And today, that particular device; would be alcohol.

  15. Mari held out her arm, allowing the plant to sink into her flesh. It wasn’t as painful as she remembered. Was it because she was growing stronger? Or that such afflictions were so commonplace that she had develop a tolerance for it?

Using her other hand, Mari jabbed the dagger into the fleshy underside of the plants head

The Frenzy Plant shuddered, and let go of her arm, leaving behind a wet trail of translucent green ooze. “Oh gross…” Mari muttered as she tried to shake it off herself.

  16. "Ah! Romania, that's what that accent was." Mari thought aloud, Moartea commented on the stars, Mari bought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. Hugging them to herself tightly. "Can't expect everything to be perfect. Really, should be grateful we get this much." Mari mused, "Why look at what you don't have? You have a whole world within your grasp. We sit atop a floating castle in the sky. So forgive me, if I think that worrying about the constellations, seems a tad inessential." She sounded as though she was chastising him, and in a way she was - Mari generally came off as rude, without meaning to. She was frank with her words and tone.

Mari finally tore her eyes from the shoreline to look down into his slate eyes, curious. It was an innocent question, but Mari didn't know this man, she didn't exactly want to divulge her entire life story to him. Mari pushed her hair out of her face, brushing it behind her ears. "Sometimes, listening to the ocean is nice. Other floors are snow, and sand - and I don't think that is exactly comfortable."  She finally rested on a logical answer, one that wouldn't require her to give too much personal information to the man.

  17. Mari was taken aback, both by his accent and his speech mannerisms; holding an Old English flair with a...what was it? Russian? Perhaps Romanian? Mari wasn't quite sure on the accent, and wasn't going to ask - it didn't concern her, nor bother her. It was simply, a shock. She was so used to seeing younger players in the game, whose manners and enunciation were something less than desired.

Combing slender fingers through silken trestles, dancing softly in the warm breeze Mari gave a shrug. "Honestly, I prefer to sleep outside." Crystalline eyes travelled skyward, and danced between the stars, "Something about the sea air, the milky way. It reminds me of home." As her eyes travelled back toward the mystery man he had sat down, carefully shifting his weapon to rest behind him. He offered a seat, and since he had yet to do anything to really bother her, Mari obliged.

"It's odd, hearing someone so well spoken in the confines of this game," Mari mused, placing her hands awkwardly in her lap. Eyes focused on the dark rolling waves crashing against the shore in front of them, "Mari." She said. Introducing herself, no doubt with much less finesse than her current counterpart.

  18. Mari was at an impasse, she hated crowds of players -  but she was curious as to what was making them amass here. Mari continued walking, kicking the pebble she had dishevelled earlier along with her as she walked. “I’ll get to the bottom of this, the rock bottom!” Mari muttered to herself, with a grin. She thought she was rather igneous- what with all these jokes. As Mari was walking, focusing on her precious pebble; she nearly ran into a lone Frenzy Plant. Mari stumbled backward, almost falling, but after some fancy footwork she was able to regain her composure.

    “Oh gosh, really?”

  19. The lanky rocker wannabe was the first player to come across her, but certainly not the last. Mari had to wonder about his bold fashion statements, guess some people must dig that look. Not Mari, no fraking way. Her trek in the field had gone off with a rocky start; poor loot from the boar, a crazed man. What next? As though fate had a cruel game in mind for her, Mari bumped into more players, this time – a trio of chattering blonde characters; they looked to Mari then whispered amongst themselves before breaking into stifled giggles. Mari raised an eyebrow; there weren’t normally that many players in this field.

    Just what was going on?

  20. Mari started singing again, now leaning on a nearby tree, she heard a rustle in the leaves, but the thought, the suspicion of a monster went in one ear and out the other. She was much too focused on the sun.

You and me have seen everything to see
    From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of our shoes
    Are all worn down

Mari slumped down the tree, landing in the thick layer of snow, her voice wavering, cracking as she hit the next verse. She lowered her head, blossom bangs falling into her cherub like face.

The time for sleep is now
    It's nothing to cry about
'Cause we'll hold each other soon
    In the blackest of rooms

At this stage, small tears had began to streak down the girls face, she was almost weeping into the song- the tears, salty and warm dropped into the snow, leaving melted imprints. Perhaps, singing this was too much – but Mari, she hadn’t exactly cried since the divorce. Don’t marry young they said, you’re a fool they said, why didn’t Mari listen?

    If Heaven and Hell decide
    That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy sig-

The song halted with a screech, akin to nails on a chalkboard, and her breath caught in her throat. What was that? There was another player nearby? Mari scrambled to push herself up and out of the snow, falling face first into the white blanket. Mari spat at the ground, visibly shaking –with what emotion, one couldn’t be sure.

“What the censored “ she hissed. She looked up to see Alkor, standing - a stark contrast of charcoal against the pure snow. "YOU?" She screamed, voice shaky. "What? You think it's FUNNY? Have you come to make good on your censored threat!?"

Mari was clearly upset that someone had heard her.
