  2. "Nice to know you won't judge me. Mari lowered her not-so-enthusiastic double thumbs up. Placing her hands in her lap. Why would she judge him for that? "I can't judge. I've done the same..I mean, not with Opal but..." She trailed off with a small shrug. She could talk about how they were both adults, that sometimes in moments we all had our vices- our weaknesses and out of all the things one could do, finding warmth in another was not something that should have been shamed. Instead Mari kept silent. He clearly didn't want to linger on the topic so Mari wasn't going to continue the conve
  3. *bunnying just to finish the thread 11 years later* Orhalimi stared at Mari. His eyes shifted from the spilled glass to her wet lab, then back to the glass. He cleared his throat, clearly nervous. "I..." He quickly went to pick up the glass and grabbed a cloth napkin. He started to dab at the mess on the table. "I...I...I" Mari mimicked mockingly. She slammed her hand down hard on the table. "How about saying fucking sorry." She spat at him. "This is why I didn't want anyone sitting next to me." Mari stood up and practically ripped the napkin out of Orhalimi's hand. Shit like this..
  4. Mari sighed, this wasn’t how she expected to spend her day - so much for trying to find new guild members for Jacobs Ladder. It’d be a miracle if the poor bastard stayed after this debacle. Vex still hadn’t told Mari why he was there. And there was something inherently off about the way he acted. How excited he seemed to get when Mari mentioned she was married. “Why do you care what my marital status is?” Mari asked Vex. Vex bounced on the spot, giddy - like a child who had just been given his favourite candy. “Oh I just…” He would twirl his fingers around in a little circle. “It’s crazy!
  5. Mari sighed as the others approached, she wasn’t relieved - but at least more people meant more targets for the strange man's attention. Khione, and Reytac came up to the scene - and just for good measure Mari stomped her foot down on Vex again. Vex just writhed, in mock pain. “I’m fine, and its Mrs.” Mari muttered toward Reytac. Mari was frustrated, and did her best to reign in her anger. “You need to keep your friend on a tighter leash.” Mari said toward Khione as she finally released Vex from beneath her foot. “I use the term friend loosely.” Khione said with a groan, brushing
  6. Mari grit her teeth, stomping harder on his chest. She had done well to control her anger lately but there was just something about this asshole, maybe it was his absolutely ludicrous outfit, maybe it was his cavalier way of talking and acting - but something about him just pissed her off. It felt like the mere cadence of his voice sent ripples of frustration through her very core. “In the past, I’d have already drawn my blade against you.” Mari said through gritted teeth. It’d do her no good to get angry here. She drew in a long deep breath and held it. Her silent moment to calm herself
  7. Mari couldn't help but snort then laugh when Hidden's jaw dropped. It was completely unexpected - Mari couldn't blame her. It was almost relieving to be able to admit her love for someone so freely. An index finger traced the rim of her cup as she hummed in thought. Mari wanted to tell Hidden about him, but things were still fairly new - and Mari knew all to well Hiddens relationship with the Laughing Coffin - and the woman doubted it'd go over well. "I..." Where should Mari begin. "He... " Mari gestured between the two of them with a flourish of her hand. "He's a PKer like us, and most would
  8. "-he was- is a good man." Was... The faux pas was there...it tugged at chords otherwise left alone within her heart. It had been a fear of hers - and she - with her orange cursor couldn't easily check the monument. "It feels like that...huh?" Mari asked Jomei quietly. It felt like Oikawa had died. After all, death meant the departure of those you once knew, it was final. And - this felt very final. "You know...he told me he was going away for a while, but refused to tell me where, or if he'd ever come back. when I asked...he just didn't answer." It hurt. It hurt knowing how he confess
  9. Jomei apologized. Like so many before, he apologized for his prejudice, but - truth be told Mari didn't need the apology. She had killed, a total of 10 names were written upon the rule, all by her hand. Some by accident - by request, and others were simply bad hands dealt to her. But there could have been ways to avoid those names staining that monument. There could have been other answers and solutions. It would do the woman no good to think of what-ifs - but her remorse did not make her a good nor just person. "You don't need to apologize. I mean, my name is on that wall. Many times. If
  10. Mari's gaze shifted down to her hands, her fingers fiddling with each other, using her fingernails to pick out bits of dirt from other fingernails. For all her bravado lately, coming face to face with someone genuine left her... feeling a little awkward. Baldur had always trusted her, same with Macradon. Mac had defended her against Bahr - heck...she was one of the founding leaders of the Ladder initially. So why lately...did it feel like she didn't really belong? "Yeah..." Mari admitted, her voice small. She was unable to rebuke his words. "Enough to let you sleep on my couch if you rea
  11. Mari didn’t trust him, so she opened up her HUD system, one hand still on her pouch. Eyes constantly flicking up to the white haired man to ensure he didn’t take a single step further, he seemed quite happy to just bounce to and fro from his toes to the heels of his feet. “I ain’t want to hurt you, Mari.” He said with a whistle. “Go on, tell anyone and everyone ol’ Vex is here!” He said with a flourish and a bow, scraping his feet against the snow. Ugh Mari inwardly cringed at his demeanor, she didn’t like it. Somehow…it reminded her of Tybalt. If Tybalt had his wits about him, and
  12. Mari had one hand firmly planted on her hip, the other - on her satchel of tricks. She had only met this man once before - and he was with a purple haired woman who called herself Emilia. Although her real name was Khione. This was not a coincidence. Running into Reytac - the footprints - “You were following me.” Mari said tersely as her hand dipped into her satchel. “Explain.” This didn’t bode well, at least not for Vex. He seemed to always be attached at Khiones hip. Mari remembered the name now. The interaction. How pissed Khione had been at Vex for him revealing her screen na
  13. It may very well have been the first time Mari properly tried exploring the floor. And with good reason. The entire floor was a big sloppy, stinky muddy mess. "Eargh..." Each footstep landed in wet. Her muddied shoes beyond saving. The woman was using her halberd as a makeshift walking stick, every so often pausing to shove it into the murky marshland beneath her feet to ensure her path wasn't too deep. Despite the woman's best efforts the muddied waters had leaked into her shoots and her feet were wet. Every so often Mari would pause, and quite literally set herself on fire - in an attempt t
  14. Mari wasn't entirely sure what Hidden was thinking, when her cup paused in the air - perhaps she was wondering if Raidou had really helped Mari. Baldur certainly felt like Raidou hadn't done the right thing, it wouldn't surprise her if others felt the same way. The way Hidden tensed did not go unnoticed by Mari. But, Mari mistook it for being uncomfortable with how close the woman was being, in the past Mari had been like this with Hidden, but she supposed it had been a number of years. So Mari let silken strands of white fall free from betwixt her fingers and shifted her attention back to the
  15. The screaming continued and Mari had to pause down a hallway that intersected - branching two different ways in front of her. Right...some of these dungeons did this. Made you get lost. Mari pulled out a single piece of chalk and marked the way she had come with an arrow, pointing toward the exit. She had only been through here once before, and whilst she did have it mapped out, the woman wasn't the best at reading said maps. The cries sounded more and more human, but that's just the thing about this game - what sounded human may not be, it could be an NPC- an event that would trigger if one w

  19. Raidou responded in the way she'd expected him to - prompt and with all the information, written with a dry precision. Of course he was already here. Why would Mari think otherwise? The raid party had barely cleared the floor a day ago and he was already here, no doubt he had probably already mapped out half the place. Mari snorted in amusement. Guess he didn't need her help after all. Mari opened up her menu, he was one of the few people she'd bother replying to in excess. She owed a lot to the man after all. He knew her at her worst, and she knew some of his most important secrets

  23. Exiting from the floor below Mari winced, eyes burning from the sudden sunlight that pelted her face. She groaned as she turned her back on it and shut the door behind her - grumbling as she rubbed dancing spots away from her eyes. Mari fumbled around her inventory till she pulled out a pair of sunglasses then with a heavy sigh, repeated the process, pushing the door to the next floor open once again. Before her was a sprawl of glistening sandy beaches and soft salty waves that lapped at her feet. The sun, whilst its brightness wasn't exactly welcomed - the warmth was - especially after
  24. Who knows how long the unconscious woman had been there like that, alone - pelted by a rain that slowly began to relent. Having dealt its icy blows - the storm satiated. Hours, maybe. Enough time for her health to tick back to full. Enough time for the sun to set to night. Enough time for another to find her. Mari barely heard the footsteps approach, the squelch of heavy boot in mud as his feet sunk deep into the earth. Mari groaned - hardly conscious as she heard his voice, reiterating that she had lost. Mari lifted a tired hand in an attempt to wave him away. Much like a child who wanted to
