I believe you do 1 damage by default, which can be improved through equipment and skills. "Players do a base damage 1 with any type of basic weapon. Damage dealt can be improved through skills, buffs and item enhancements." But that's just my interpretation of the combat tutorial.

Well in the end, you deal 4 damage on normal hits, 5 damage on criticals, and 6 damage on the event of a hyper critical.

let me do some basic math:

1 basic dmg +3(from the sword) +1 (from the sword skill)=5 Dmg.

so on a normal roll you deal 5 dmg, on a natural 9 deal, 6 dmg and on natural 10 you deal 7. Did that answer your initial question?
