  1. With her love busy, Mai had taken to helping out the unskilled players stay alive in their earliest of quests. She had taken a rotation, stationing herself outside of easy quest areas, offering her services and skills to any traveler trying to complete certain areas. The girl couldn’t stand the thought of anyone dying and if she could prevent it, she would.

Today she found herself stationed outside the <Worn Out Welcome> quest station. Mai very much liked this quest as it gave lower levels armor and it was always different, which means she got to do all kinds of fun things when tagging along with the others. As she paced back and forth at the entrance, a young man came and looked a bit bewildered over the situation. Skipping over Mai, gave the young man a great smile.

“Oh Hai!” she said as she came nearer, “My name is Mayuri, I’m a healer, and I would very much like it if you would allow me to tag along on this quest and help you out! Would that be okay?” She asked the young man hoping he would at least consider her offer.

  2. The skeletons were closing in and Mai gripped at her blade so tightly, her little knuckles went white. Her heart raced in her chest as her heart thumped wildly causing Mai’s breaths to become shallow and irregular. As they marched in closer and closer, a deep roar sounded from behind and her eyes shifted from the creatures before her to the figure behind. There, a young man with bright emerald green eyes and flowing red locks stood there drawing the mobs attention, asking if Mai needed assistance. The figure was a welcome sight as she wasn’t sure she could even defend herself against two monsters.

“Please!” She yapped and smiled brightly, relieved to see a friendly face. If she had to fight alone, she probably would not make it home to Life that night, and her love would’ve be quite alone once more.

    She could not have that.

The skeletons turned and moved toward the young man and that’s when Mayuri took her chance to strike.

MAI HITS BOTH SKELETON GUARDS FOR 1 DMG EACH

Mai had never once tried to use her AoE movement, but with both of the monsters going after the young man who’d come to her aid, she had no choice but to try and attack using <<Fell Crescent>>. Mai charged at the two figures as she unleashed a downward strike upon the monsters. Her aim was off slightly, but her <<Concentration>> skill kicked in just at the last second. Her blade connected with the things but their damage counters barely fell.

“I CAN’T HIT THEM!” Mai exasperatedly shouted at the young man.

    “My Reaver doesn’t do anything!”

She didn’t even notice a tiny sliver of the creature’s HP fall because it was so miniscule a difference.

“OHHHH…” she squealed, “Please be careful!”

  3. All of Mai’s efforts were for not. Her blade barely made small indentations upon the creature. She whined yet again as the beast was only knocked down to half its health. If she kept up doing so poorly, it’d take her forever to finish off her target. “Come on!” Mai growled as her Light Reaver blade cut into the creature once more. This time it moved quick enough to knock little Mai, and the small girl smacked right into the cave wall. Mai bounced off the surface and stumbled back, her blade slipped from her grip. If she didn’t recover it, she’d be in trouble.

  4. Fighting her Golem was a lot harder than she expected. Though she was landing every strike perfectly upon the creature, her efforts produced little in damage. She was terribly lucky the monster was so slow moving, every time it batted at her, she was able to jump away and avoid attack. “Why… won’t… you… just… DIE?” The girl huffed between each blow only knocking the creature’s health done a measly few points. “I’m going to be here all day!” Mai whined as she readied her Reaver once more.

  5. Mai’s Light Reaver continued to clash against the monster only inflicting rather pathetic wounds. Mai knew if she did not level her weapon soon, she’d have no chance of getting any further in the game. She activated her <<Reaver>> attack, slashing at the monster vertically.  A “CRITICAL” notification popped up and the monster froze in place. The girl took a deep breath, as the monster’s solid marble fit was aimed directly for her pretty little face, and there would’ve been no way for her to have dodged the attack.

  6.  Even with her boosts, Mai’s attacks were weak. She was barely hitting the creature for anything. The girl whimpered as its health only went down a small tick. The Golem’s movements were quite slow and it batted at the girl, but she was easily able to avoid being struck. As quickly as she dodged the creature’s attack, she went in for another strike. She’d realized her aim was slightly off mark, but her <<Concentration>> skill kicked in causing her to land another small blow upon the monster. Her hits were but mere scratches upon the rock monster’s exterior, but she figured so long as she could avoid being hit, she could dwindle its health down.

  7. Mai added the quartz into her inventory and continued on a bit further into the cave, leaving daylight behind. This particular cavern was not as bad as the bat cave she’d gone questing in and there were strange glowing rocks that lined the cave casting it in a lime green glow. As she rounded another bend, Mai squealed finding herself face to face with a menacing rock creature with glowing blue gemstones for eyes. “GOLEM!” She screamed as she pulled her weapon and charged in for the attack.

  8. Mai returned to her shop floor and began to make her way outside of Urbus toward the path that lead her into the mountains where the caves could be found. It was a bright and sunny day out, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. “Too bad I’m going to be spending my time inside a cave today…” she lamented as she found that to be a waste of a beautiful day. Why couldn’t gems and crystals be found outside... like in a sunny field full of flowers or something pleasant like that? Instead she’d be hunting golems deep within the bowels of the mountains she resided in.

Eventually Mai found herself at the mouth of the caves. She used the Blood of Champions to boost herself and then used a +2 Damage potion to boost herself even further. Having consumed her potion and used her crystal, she returned her items back to her inventory and began to explore the caves. Only a few meters in, and Shay spotted something glittering among the cave wall. She took Light Reaver from her shealth and began to carefully pick at the bit of shine until it was knocked free.

"YAY!" Mai cheered s she hand already found a quartz, and was one item in on her quest in a matter of a few minutes. With any luck she could get everything squared away and be out of the caves early enough to enjoy the lovely day that wait for her outside.

  9. Mai couldn’t believe it! Just as soon as she hit rank five in her alchemy, she’d all but near run out of materials. If she was going to create crystals she would need a lot more than the handful she’d on her to get the job done. She’d finished leveling very late the night before and decided to leave it for the following morning. But even when she woke up the following day, the young woman was not interested in getting out of bed. She lay there under the covers, hugging Life’s pillow as she stared up at the ceiling trying to will herself to get up.

“He’ll be home today,” she told herself hoping that her love would be reason enough to get her behind out of bed. With a heavy sigh, Mai pushed back the covers and slipped off the bed and got herself ready to go.

Once more, she returned to the Alchemy shop where she’d done her original quest. The shopkeeper noticed Mai’s level and congratulated the young woman on her leveling up to rank five. It was then she was told that she’d need to gather crystals and was sent on a special mission to level two to begin collecting her first set of crystals so she could learn how to infuse her potions into them.

  10. “Damn it… damn it… damn it…. [censored]” Mai cursed as she run as quickly as she could between the trees trying her best to dodge the  scenery as it came at her at full speed.

Mai knew she wasn’t supposed to wander off far. She knew Life hated it when she adventured in places she shouldn’t go without help. And she knew it was risky to come alone. That much was evident with two skeletons hot on her tail. There’d been four before, but she must’ve lost two of them as she ran off.

Shay had come to the woods of level three to hunt skeletons. Even though she knew they were a bit tougher than she was used to, she’d used her Blood of Champions in conjunction with a damage potion, stacking her damage to seven, which was more than double her normal damage capability. So far she’d managed to pick off the skeletons one by one, however she must’ve been hunting the area too long as more and more of them began to spawn quickly and soon they overtook her area. Since their numbers were greater than what she could handle, she could do only one thing:

    RUN.

The raven haired girl pumped her legs as quickly as she could through the densely tree lined forest, her short pink kimono fluttering as she streaked through the woods trying to lose the skeletons. She could hear them creaking behind her as she ran and dared not look back as she feared crashing into the trees. The ground below her feet was uneven and slick from the wet decaying leaves beneath her feet. T was hard for her to focus on the ground below and her surrounds, so much so, that Shay did not notice a tree root sticking up too far off the ground and the young woman tripped, crashing down to the ground hard. Mai let out a squeal as her feet went out from under her and she near faceplanted into the soft forest floor. She pushed herself off the ground, her lovely kimono now covered in dirt and her hands and knees scraped up from her fall. Regaining her footing, Mai realized that it was too late to run, she was surrounded by too thick a wood to escape, and the skeletons were nearly upon her. She reached for her sword and quickly unsheathed Light Reaver, readying for incoming mobs as they bum rushed her.

    B) I think early rank skill costs should be lower. Right now, rank 1 costs 5 points. I think we should lower this a bit, to incentivize players to spread out their SP a bit. Right now, the optimal thing you can do is max out your sword skill before putting points into anything else. The first ranks of armor are almost worthless, and they're expensive considering the bonus they gave.

I know B doesn't sound like it's an issue of the leveling progression, but it is. I'm level 24 and I have Katana mastered and 2 points in charge. That just seems silly to me. I should have a lot more skills than that (even though I fully realize how many points it took to master).

This was done because it was pointed out skills were not an easy thing to come by in SAO, and there were many high level characters close to capping their skills out. They felt it wouldn't be challenging, and they'd quit before we even got very far. At level 24 I think 2-3 skills is acceptable, you shouldn't have a full skill set at such a low level and it makes a person plan out how best to utilize SP early on.

    14 hours ago, Takao said:

You can already do this with the current system. What's stopping a party of 10 players from making a thread now, each of them only posting twice, then closing the thread and making a new one?

Someone tried that, and got 20 people in a thread. It was closed before they could finish it. But yeah, Takao has a point, there's nothing really stopping anyone from trying again anyway.

    12 hours ago, Ratatosk said:

Yup, very slow, like everyone else said. Most of the people here talk about teamwork, but I don't really see too much of it. I guess some people here (Me) are a bit reluctant to work with others since it takes them a while to post. The main high leveled players here only roleplay with 1-2 other people at a time in a single thread, and I haven't seen an Open Party in quite a while. We should make more of those (OP's) and there should also be a new system that makes leveling a bit easier.

Why don't you post your own OP or just ask other people to play with you? RP invitations work both ways :)

  12. " ...but if it's not written here, it's not a rule."

I love that statement, but I think it should go further to state that if "its not in the rules, it's not allowed and if a player feels  it ought to be, then take it up with someone".

I think the biggest problem hasn't been "staff known only" rules or defacto rules,(typically it's made up bs by members (including those on staff) and have tried to slip in because it doesn't state within the rules it is/isn't allowed),  it's the fact that when the guides are edited, they're not all checked for consistency which tends to lead to confusion and error on part of the player. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty unhappy with certain members including certain staff members trying to edit inventories after death to pass things along and "make up" friend inventories, which is cannon in the light novel or manga, but again, if it isn't in the rules it shouldn't just be allowed in as a loophole.

  13. In talking with Tristan previously, players can create easier mobs than what the floor calls for to get materials, you just don't get a drop from the creature when you kill it. As materials are easy to come by I don't see a problem with a player not getting materials through killing mobs for a few threads.  I've done it with a few of my other characters. There is still the option of foraging for materials earlier on if a player really wants to collect them. New players shouldn't be so anxious to run off to their deaths if dying is truly a concern early on. It's also a good idea not to go it alone. I've had many other players help me through mobs early on. Isn't that the point of an mmorpg anyway? You can only get so far alone in most of the ones I've played.

I think it'd be interesting to give a scaling for SP in boss fights, as suggested by Shirien.

  14. I liked the system better when it went by how much you post rather than how much you finish, but that's just the fact that I'm horrible at finishing things. I get why it had to change though. It got broken

I haven't noticed issue with it being harder/easier to level and I don't understand the scaling on Tristan's leveling thing as I don't math and I don't like to math. So I can't really give a good responce other than to state my opinion of how i liked it before XD

  15. 27.04.16

Once more, Mai set back to work on crafting. She drank down the crafter’s respite potion and watched as her counter reset itself. When it hit zero, she pulled her phials from her inventory and went back to making potions. When she finished she found that she’d made all usable items, AND she had finally ranked up to level five crafting. After all she’d done, Shay was exhausted. The girl flopped down onto the cool stone floor and lay there, not wanting to get up. Closing her eyes, she fell asleep there in her workshop and fell fast asleep.

  17. I have many thoughts on the committee and they were all covered by Life, so I won't repeat what has already been rather well stated. Zelruis also made a point by asking where it is that these committee members are taking information and suggestions from other players, because I've not seen this so I don't know who exactly is being consulted. There shouldn't be a committee. There should, as Life stated, be more transparency as to what is being worked on by staff as well as staff taking suggestions made by players more seriously.

  18. 27.04.16

Mai’s life for the past week consisted of three things: food, sleep, and crafting. The girl was determined to achieve her goal so that she could finally start making crystals. She was even more determined to be useful when it came time for her to face floor bosses. The girl was aware that though there were several healers and many alchemists, she knew one more wouldn’t hurt, especially one willing to give her stock for free for the sake of saving as many lives as she possibly could.  Pulling out her crystal phials, Mai got down to business.

After a quick break, Mai used one of her crafter’s respite’s to get back down to business. Sipping the jeweltone liquid down, she giggled as the bubbles tickled her nose. Wiping her mouth on the sleeve of her kimono, Shay went back to work.  She’d done well again, thanks to her crystal phials and made srveral concoctions that would be useful during her journeys in Aincrad. With only a little bit more till she reached level five and a day before her love would return, Mai knew she’d have to buckle down in order to achieve her goal.

  22. Mai turned to find she had indeed awaken the sleeping woman. She crinkled her little face as she was terribly disappointed in herself for being so rude. The woman however did not seem the least bit annoyed by her actions and even politely greeted her with a welcoming return.“Thank you,” Mayuri smiled as she gave the woman a polite nod. “I’m sorry for waking you. You seemed like you needed the rest and I didn’t want to be a bother…” she responded as the blond told her of how tired she’d been lately. As they talked, Mai turned to look to see where the cat had gone. It seemed to have moved itself in front of the door as if telling Mai she was to stay where she was. Sighing and smiling Mai nodded as she resigned to do just that.

“…Tell me what can I help you with?" The woman inquired of her.

A rosy blush crept over Mai’s cheeks as she lowered her eyes.

“I was wondering if you might have any dresses in stock? Nothing very fancy… just something pretty that I could wear on a date…” As Mai spoke, the pinky tones upon her face only deepened until she was beet red all over.

Mayuri was on a roll. She didn’t know how it was that she managed to crafts two perfect items and a rare that day but she would take it. It meant that she’d leveled up to four. Only one more to go and she’d be able to craft all the crystals she and Life would need to get them in and out of boss fights alive and safe. The thought that she’d finally be useful to the one she loved thrilled the young woman like nothing else and she decided that in order to get to where she needed faster, she was going to drink the two crafter’s respite she’d made to try and power level that day. It’d probably take her all day to complete what she needed, but the thought of being even just a little bit closer to her goal would make Shay terribly happy.
