After a nice dinner and a bath, Mayuri felt up to crafting once more. Taking the newly created potion, Shay cracked the bottle open and gave it a sniff, grinning as it smelled of lemon despite its amethyst jewel tone. Small bubbles tickled her nose, and she giggled once more as she deeply inhaled them. Drinking it all down, Mai’s crafting counter reset, and she went back to work using her trust phials. When she was done, her abilities greatly increased despite only making a pair of poison antidotes.

  4. The lion purred causing Shay to smile. “You’re very pretty…” she told the little lion as she rubbed the animal’s head and giggled. “You must be a familiar, huh?” The girl made conversation with the big cat not thinking much on how silly she must’ve looked. Mai was just the sort to make conversation with anyone and anything. She even talked to the plants in her shop as she watered them, a habit from the real world as oxygen didn’t matter much in the computerized world of SAO.

“I’ve always wanted a familiar.” She continued and scratched the cat’s ear.

The big kitty let out a sound and began to walk away, and Mai followed wondering where she was being lead. The answer was found quickly as Mai soon found a sleeping blond woman nuzzled into a rather comfy looking chair. She was a pretty lady, and she looked so peaceful with a serene smile that Shay was unsure as to whether or not to disturb her.

“I don’t want to wake her…” Mai said to the little lion cub. “I’ll come another time,” she said as she gave the cub a little wave.

AS she turned to go, the floor beneath her feet gave a loud creak causing Mai to cringe. She turned about wondering if the loud sound had awoken the slumbering beauty.

With the help of her crystal phials, Mayuri was growing as an alchemist. This was good as there wasn’t much time before Life told her he’d return, and she wanted to show him how far she’d gotten in so little a time. This day’s crafting even gave her a Crafter’s Respite, which meant she would be able to craft again. She decided she would have a meal, and then use her new potion to get back to work. With luck, she’d be able to craft a few more items worth some to her endeavours.

Mai was off her A game. She’d been crafting rather well thanks to her crystal phials that Teayre had made for her. But today, something was off. Maybe she’d been missing Life too much. He’d gone away again some days prior and she wondered what he’d been up to, but she tried to keep herself busy by doing her work. Yet, thoughts of the tall dark haired young man kept her far too occupied that afternoon, and all she managed to make was a nerve tonic. However useful hey were after battle, it would still do nothing for her in the midst of a fight. Mai needed to hurry to level five so she could make crystals to keep Life and others alive and well.

  7. With the babe in her arms, Mayuri ducked down and shielded the child from Life’s incoming attack. Her rushing into the battlefield might not have been the wisest as she did not know where the bats were nor did she know where Life’s onslaught might come from, and she did not want to get caught in the cross hairs of that fight. From the dark came several brilliant flashes not far from where she was and she hugged the child closer to her as she watched Life’s attacks come to an end. Shay heard Eric sheath his blade in the pitch black and she called out to him gently. His soft footsteps padded through the dark toward her and felt him envelope her in her arms. Mai melted against Eric as he spoke and told them it was time to leave the cave.

“Yes,” she agreed as she waited for Life to release her from his grip so she could stand. Once he released her, she adjusted the child in her arms and took his hand, letting him lead her back out once more. As they walked through the cave quietly, Mai began to feel badly. Things happened to work out this time, but what if she’d gotten herself injured. If they lost the child, all they need do was wait for the babe and the bats to respawn, but had life struck her with his attack along with the bats, there would be no respawn for her. She could have died.

“I’m sorry Eric…”She said suddenly as she tightened her grip upon his hand. “I wasn’t thinking. I shouldn’t have rushed in like that. I must have given you quite a scare. I promise I won’t ever do that to you again. I’ll be more careful… I promise…” her words got softer as she spoke as a lump formed in her throat making it hard for her to speak or swallow. She felt so incredibly guilty over what she’d done and only hoped he wasn’t too angry with her.

  8. Mayuri could not contain her excitement. Eric was to return to her that evening, and Shay could not wait to see him. He had gone away some days prior on business of which he did not relay the details to Mai, nor did she pry. The young woman understood that even though Life had promised her not to go places without her, it was just too impossible for him to keep. He had more than double her levels and he could not level further without training in higher places, places that Mai could not possibly go, not as she was. So she did not bother to question him when he told her that he had errands to run, and she kept her end of the promise by not questing without him. In this small way, she felt that their promise was met and they were keeping their word to one another.

Since her love was coming home, Mai wanted to do something special that evening. Since she wasn’t much of cook, they usually ate dinner out at the local pub, but Mai wanted to do something more than that. She wanted a date, a real date. One where she got to dress all pretty and be girly and go somewhere really nice, preferably someplace with cake. But she didn’t have anything pretty, just her pink kimono and her starter clothes, neither of which would suit for a date night. She would just have to go shopping and find something. She had amassed quite a bit of col and had plenty materials so finding a pretty dress would be no problem. The only thing is she had no idea where to look. She looked down at her kimono and at the little lion insignia stitched on it and remembered the shop she got it from.

“I wonder if she’ll have anything…” Mai said aloud to herself as she decided to head for the Lion’s Den.

The Lion’s Den was along the forest side of Snowfrost Village which meant it was open to PKer’s and regular players alike. This should have concerned Mai at least a little, however, she felt that she was too low a level to be noticed by others to be concerned with her. She bounced through the snow leaving little footprints in the white powder behind her as she headed for the shop. With the entrance in sight, the young raven haired woman made for the stairs and hurried inside.

Mai opened the door to the shop, and the little bells tinkled indicating her arrival. She closed the door behind her as she brushed snowflakes from her hair and began to walk inside and check out what was for sale. Walking further into the shop she felt something brush against her legs causing the young woman to jump. Mai looked down and found that she was being rubbed up on by a rather big white cat. Correction, not cat… a lion. “OHHH!!!” Mai squealed rather unsure what to do about the shepard sized white lion nuzzling against her leg.

“Nice kitty….” Mai said as she gingerly reached down and patted the young lion upon its head.

“H-h-h-ello?” She called out hoping that the owner of said big kitty would come get it before it tried to eat her or something.

In a matter of mere days, Mai had gone up two whole levels and the girl couldn’t have been more excited. If she kept this up, she had no idea what she’d be by the end of the week. Shay smiled at the thought of Life coming back to her being in her fifth rank by the time of his return. Sure leveling five ranks in under a week would be enough to prove she was keeping her word to him.

With a silly grin upon her face, she pulled her crystal phials from her inventory and set to work on her potions. When she was done, she had made a +2 Damage potion. It wasn’t her best work, but she would find this useful the next time she was to go out hunting for materials or fighting on her own.

Mayuri was pumped. She’d had finally leveled her profession up and managed to make something rather useful to add into her inventory. This gave the young woman hope that she wasn’t a totally failure as an alchemist, and the little ego boost that she needed to try her skill again. Pulling her crystal phials from her inventory, she set off to work on making her next batch of potions.

As luck would have it, she managed to create something new: a perfect damage potion. She curled the bottle between her fingers and hugged it to her chest. She couldn’t wait to give it to Life. He always got the first perfect item of any new type she made. Tucking the bottle into her inventory, she couldn’t wait till her love come home so she could present him with his latest gift.

Mayuri was a terrible alchemist. Even though she had promised Life she’d master her skill, she’d done very little in way of doing so. It’d been months since she touched her workshop until today. She had finally gotten over nearly burning her shop down twice in a matter of a few days, and she wanted to keep her promise to the one she loved. Pulling out her crystal phials, she began to use them in her works.

When she was done, she’d found she created two rather useful items: one, a nerve tonic, which she’d use post battle to fix anyone in distress over what had happened on the battlefield; the other, a perfect healing potion. Though they weren’t much use in battle, it was still better than anything she’d made thus far and could be of use to players who needed a fast pick me up outside of her own healing skills. Little by little, she would improve and get to where she needed to be. Mai was sure of it.

  15. Success!

Light Reaver had come though. Thanks to her weapon’s paralysis, she was able to land her final blow upon the beast without repercussion. She hit and the monster froze as it began to pixelate and disappear.  As the last few pixels flew away Mai was pleasantly surprised with additional Col and an extra poison spore.  Scooping her hard earned goods up she left the area and hurried her way back to the NPC to turn in her goods. After that she’d have to hurry back to her shop and heal up. With any luck she would beat Eric home and be healed up before she told him of her adventure. Hopefully he wouldn’t be too mad at her after he saw how well she’d done for herself.

All she needed was one more well placed hit and the fight would be over.

  17. The half way mark.

Mai’s health was getting too low for her liking. She was not yet critical, but if she didn’t do something and fast, she would be. Even in knowing how quickly her health was dropping, there was little she could do: all of her swings still failed to connect and she could not take the time to drink down a potion, not in the middle of battle. Luckily, the Nepent failed to hit her and for that Mai was grateful. She needed to end this fight soon.

    This was getting rather ridiculous!

  18. Mai was completely missing the mark. She didn’t know how it was she was royally [censored] up so damn badly, but RNGESUS had it out for her.

“[censored], [censored], [censored], [censored], [censored]!” She cursed as her swings failed to connect.

The Nepent fired at her and once more she was struck with poisonous nettles. One grazed her cheek causing her counter to go back up to ten. If she didn’t end this soon, she was going to be one dead little girlie, and if she didn’t die and Life found out about this, she was going to get a stern lecture on building up her stats before going out onto the field on her own.

    Either way, Mai was [censored].

  19. “For [censored] sake!” Mai cursed as she dropped her arms, panting hard. She nor the Nepent moved a muscle as they squared off. Both stood there in a Mexican standoff waiting for the other to strike first. Mai knew that mobs did not tire so she couldn’t fathom why the monster had stopped. Perhaps it was toying with the girl.

     “[censored] you!”

She cursed again as she flipped her middle finger at the creature. She was glad Life was not here to see her behaving in such a way. Surely he would disapprove of her less than appropriate conduct, but Mai couldn’t help it. She was frustrated and angry and all she wanted to do was finish this damn quest and be on her way. With a growl, Mai raised her weapon once more and prepared herself to attack once again.

  20. Shay was getting nowhere fast. She was just not quick enough to hit the damn Nepent. For every swing, the creature countered and dodged. Even though she did not feel the fatigue her fruitless attacks brought, she knew that the creature was not getting faster, she had begun to slow down. “ Just ten more points…”she pleaded with herself as Light Reaver slashed through the air with a soft swooshing sound. Once more her health dropped and though she wasn’t yet too concerned, she realized she was focusing a bit too much on her numbers.

  21. Mayuri was discouraged. The blood of champions, though making her a bit stronger, did not make up for the lack of skill she had in her weapon or the fact that she’d little in the way of accuracy. These two facts kept her from hitting her target this round of attacks. With every move to strike, the Nepent easily evaded her assault. Likewise, the plant monster could not hit Shay. She was thankful to herself for observing Life so carefully and mimicking part of his skill set. Though she could not hit hard, she was not easily struck herself. Her health bar ticked down slightly again and Mai clenched her teeth. If she didn’t finish the Nepent soon she’d be in dire straits and she was not ready to die.

    Not today.

  22. There was little time for Mai to consider more training as she was in the middle of battle. “Just a little more…” she reminded herself as she went in for the attack again. Swinging her falchion, the pretty kimono clad girl had failed to hit her target. Mai’s swing was too wide, and the mod was just far enough to easily avoid her strike. She’d caught the creature off guard however and it failed to attack her on its turn. Even without the attack, her health counter ticked down a notch again… “Eight more…” Mai clenched her teeth. If she didn’t make this fight move quickly, she would be in more trouble than she thought.
