  1. Aster absorbed all the information Husky passed on to her, giving a small nod or a mumble of acknowledgement here or there. "A rescue mission? That's a new one." She mumbled in interest. Many of the quests she'd since until now were the most simple bounty or collection--kill so many of this monster or get so many of that material. She was still poorly-equipped to completed those quests on her own, unless she already had a level advantage, in which case she wasn't getting much experience in the end anyway. "Well I suppose I'll just remind you that all I can do is boost your abilities. Do you need any potions?" She asked. Until she was able to pick up the more advanced skills that allowed her to increase other players' stats without the use of items, she would need to make sure she had plenty of consumable items on hand to do her job.

  2. (OOC: Yeah I don't mind fighting things that give us a little challenge. We could add more monsters to our excursion or something, too)

Aster chose not to even try to contribute to the conversation, instead simply listening as the others discussed the target of their quest. 'A Dark Elf, eh?' She thought curiously. Her mind immediately began to wander, recalling what little she knew about such a topic. While her encyclopedic knowledge of this or that topic often came in handy in the real world, she found herself struggling to make sense of things in Sword Art Online. 'Elves... Elf...' She was deep in thought, trying to recall anything she knew about the mythical race. Humanoid, characterized by pointed ears and a more elegant or regal structure to them. Typically lived much longer than humans and had an inclination to magic ability. 'Is that all?' She frowned at the small number of details she was able to come up with. Not only that, but they were hunting a specific variant of Elf. Lost in her thoughts, Aster hadn't even heard Raze's explanation for what he knew of the creatures.

  3. Aster watched from a safe distance as the battle continued to play out. The players--despite Morgenstern suffering from repeated status effects--were still in no danger, and Avalanche had finally fallen below half of its total hit points. The icy beast had groaned, roared, and even stirred up the chilling winds to bite at their skin, but the best that he seemed to do was catch the tank in some kind of 'Freezing' effect.

For a moment, Aster considered carrying herself over to the blonde and healing him, but one glance to his health bar had her arguing with herself. She didn't like trying to fight, especially when her contribution was so minimal. Perhaps Morgenstern was too good of a tanking character--the healing she would do was so minimal that it basically wasn't worth it. The ginger girl let out a sigh. Accepting her best choice of action, Aster dashed forward once again, repeating all the same motions to land the smallest of blows against the elemental.

  4. Refusing to carry the fox familiar around for the rest of the day, Reginald trotted beside Aster while they walked, bushy tail swishing behind him. The group began discussing builds and stats--appropriate discussion before taking on a combat quest. When the others had finished speaking and it would fall to the ginger to round out the party, she simply confirmed Veriost's earlier deduction. "I'm a healer, or support." She explained. "I don't use a weapon, and I prefer not to fight if we can get by. I'm also an alchemist, so if you need potions I may be able to provide them." The girl spoke matter-of-factly as she nudged at the edge of her glasses with her fingertips. Pushing the item up just slightly on the bridge of her nose, Aster found that they reached their destination rather quickly.

Griswold greeted the players with the same sullen expression he gave every player who would be given his quest. After explaining his plight and the territorial conflict Delilah was facing with the dark elves of the forest, each of the four party members received the same quest prompt to pop up in front of them. Obviously choosing to accept, Aster waited for one of the 'sturdier' players to continue leading the way out of town.

  5. Despite the tension in the air, Aster's small smile persisted. The fox held in her arms was practically like a plush doll at this point, expressionless and patiently immobile. Before much longer, a notification appeared in front of the ginger--a party request from the sandy-haired boy beside Dazia. The player's name read 'Vigilon', and he seemed to be sending them to all three of them. The thought finally clicked in Aster's mind to remind her that she had been looking for a party to hire her just minutes ago. While she didn't have the chance to inspect the other party members beforehand, the healer set down her familiar in order to give her a free hand to press 'Accept' on the invitation. Her eyes flickered to her top-left, examining the party information that displayed in her HUD. Once the raven-haired woman would accept, Aster's eyes fell upon her username--'Dazia'.

Not necessarily wanting to take the lead, but eager to start this quest that they had mentioned, Aster gave a small nod towards the group. "Well, there's always time to catch up," She began, not wanting Dazia to think she was shrugging off their meeting. "Should we get started?"

  6. Aster had taken a step and a half away from the group when she froze in place. How long had it been since she heard the rest of her name spoken aloud? Still holding the fox--who was seemingly content with being carried around like a plush doll--the ginger spun around slowly, amber eyes looking back at the girl with raven hair. She stared back at Dazia's shocked expression, taking in all of her features. Finally, Aster's eyes widened in recognition of her own. "Vi--" Her mouth clamped shut before she uttered the girl's real name. She froze up for another second, unsure of how to handle the situation. The healer cleared her throat in an attempt to compose herself when a nearby voice spoke up rather suddenly.

Aster's eyes were drawn to the light-haired man. He was considerably taller than her, and his less-than-friendly facial expressions only added to his intimidating persona. His words were to the point, causing the ginger to frown slightly as she continued to process the situation. In no attempt to be rude, the girl didn't address his invitation right away. "It's Aster," She started, looking back to Dazia as a tiny smile made its way to her face. "and yes, it's been a while, hasn't it?"

  7. "What do you think, Regi--" The girl stopped mid-sentence when she gave the ground at her feet a quick scan. The orange fox was nowhere to be seen. "Oh, would you stay put for once." She muttered under her breath. Before the girl had the chance to search for the creature, a blur of motion caught her off guard. Giving a start, Aster's head swiveled as she tried to catch sight of the winged object circling around her. When Veriost had stopped examining her and flew back to her owner, the ginger's eyes followed her. 'A dragon?' Her head tilted to the side with curiosity.

"There you are!" She growled. Her eyes drifted down to spot the bundle of orange fur inspecting the tall man that had blocked her view before. She hesitated a moment, intimidated at the sight of the man with the emotionless face. Still, she had to collect what was hers. Steeling herself, Aster walked over to the small gathering of players and quickly scooped the fox up in her arms, holding Reginald close to her chest with her arms below his front legs. She gave a small clear of her throat before speaking up to excuse herself. "Ehm, sorry about him." She said, the touch of an English accent audible in her voice. "Well, uhm... Cheers," She ended awkwardly, turning away.

  8. ((Morg, are you still at full HP?))

Finally, the boss had managed to land a single strike against their tank. The blonde swordsman was thrown to the ground, and a quick glance to her party interface showed that he was affected by some sort of debuff. 'I don't have a way to remove that...' She scowled lightly. Still, the man's health bar barely dropped from the blow, giving Aster a small sense of relief. "Alright then, looks like I'm only going to be needed in a pinch." She murmured. The ginger almost wished that the bosses attacks were more successful or dealt more damage. At least then she wouldn't feel obliged to continue dealing pitiful damage. But without much other choice, the teen sighed lightly and ran in for another basic attack. 'I really hope I can start investing in those damage-boosting skills soon...' She thought along the way, delivering another small attack for a single point of damage.

  9. It took a while for the fox familiar to realize his master was no longer following after him. With little expression, Reginald circled back and weaved himself between Aster's ankles. The sensation of the fox's fur brushing across her skin was just enough to distract the ginger from her locked gaze, breaking away and looking down at the creature. "Oi, what?" She scoffed lightly. Only paying the familiar a moment's attention, Aster looked back to where the familiar girl was standing, only to blink in surprise when she had disappeared from view. No, that wasn't quite right. The sandy-haired player was still there, but in between herself and the petite black-haired girl now stood an tall, intimidating figure--a man that appeared to be speaking to what Aster assumed was both of the others.

The ginger frowned for a moment, unsure of what to do. Curiosity burned at the back of her mind, no longer able to study the familiar-looking face from her position. The gears of her mind continued to turn just as Reginald stared up at Aster's face. Taking it upon himself as he always did, the girl didn't even notice when the fox trotted off. He weaved between other players walking along, nimbly making his way toward the trio. Without caution, the furry familiar began to sniff at Raze's shoes.

  11. "Behave, you hear?" Aster frowned, feeling as though she was the mother of an unruly toddler. The target of her warning was none other than her familiar Reginald, the orange fox that was currently circling and weaving around her ankles while the ginger girl stood still. A small sigh escaped her lips, and the creature was nudged by her feet as she moved forward, leaving the teleport gate in the middle of Delilah. 'Surely there has to be quests here that I can still do...' She thought, amber eyes scanning the area for any NPC quest-givers that flagged players down or made their plight obvious for others to inquire about. The support-built girl had managed to get a few levels to her name as of late, but her statistics still weren't anywhere near satisfactory for her yet.

"Reginald, be a dear and find us some work, will you?" She mumbled the request under her breath, knowing full well that the creature couldn't be bothered to do anything outside of its programming. Aster's eyes darted between players and NPCs alike, looking for anything of interest on her way to the city's request board. She had nearly reached her destination when a pair of players--no, one person in particular--caught her eye. Aster stopped in her tracks, standing still in the middle of the city streets, staring curiously at the girl with exceptionally long, raven-black hair.

  12. A small, almost nostalgic smile grew on Aster's face once Husky was visible in the distance, offering her a wave. It had certainly been a while since she'd seen the man. She finished closing the gap between them, shifting her weight to one leg when she'd come to a stop. "Fancy seeing you here," She said in greeting. "I suppose we're both looking to do some more quests. Do you have anything good in mind?" She inquired, wasting little time before pressing Husky for the details. While waiting for his response and listening carefully for any quest information the man would pass on to her, Aster lightly pushed up on the thin frame of her glasses with one hand, swiping her hand through the air to open her menus with the other. She had a few skill points waiting to be spent, so this could be a good opportunity to pick up a new skill or a modifier that would be useful to them. She was hoping to get into similar small parties, and while she couldn't contribute much of anything in terms of damage, she had plenty of opportunities to offer support. Already getting herself in order to set out, the girl frowned at the lack of items in her inventory. 'I really ought to stock up on more potions...' She thought.

Aster glanced over her shoulder to spot the raven-haired player following after her. She brought up a hand to nudge her glasses up on the bridge of her nose while the green-haired man began to address them all. The ginger's gaze shifted outside of Armadillo's main gates to the wild desert beyond. She did still have a fair supply of water and bread to keep her alive outside of the safe zones, and the combination of her healing skills and the potions that she had on her left her without worry for her or her party's health. The girl gave herself a quick once-over, ensuring that her handwrap weapons were equipped and there was nothing she couldn't go without before departing.

Their green-haired leader, whose name she didn't recall catching in the commotion of the desert city, led the way. Expecting Stryder to continue following along, but not eager to drum up casual conversation, Aster made her way outside of the safe zone's borders. She kept to herself, as always, and simply kept a careful watch of their spacious, sandy surroundings. As a support-build, she needed to focus on making up where her combat skills lacked, which included observation and tactical thinking--at least one of which she already had confidence in.

  14. With the monster paralyzed for two of their party's rotations now, Aster hadn't felt the need to put as much distance between herself and the boss after her last attack. She wasn't in danger of taking damage, at least not until the creature was able to move again. Her eyes flickering up to the monster's health bar, the healer frowned in dissatisfaction at the realization that it would regain its movement very soon. 'Might as well go for another shot,' She decided. The monster hadn't managed to land a single blow against their party, and although she was grateful for that she wasn't comfortable trying to deal damage. With a small sigh, the ginger girl ran up to Avalanche yet again. The feeling of lightning crackling around her arms was absent now, causing the girl to frown again as she approached. 'That lucky was bound to run out.' She kept her commentary to her thoughts, landing only a glancing blow against the monster just as its icy body groaned back to life. A blast of frigid wind gushed out from the monster as it had been released from its paralysis, causing Aster to bring her arms up in front of her to brace herself against the violent winds. The girl immediately backed off, hurrying to a safe distance while she examined the battlefield once more.

  15. Both players took advantage of the monster's stunned status. The ginger held a small smirk, glad that she was able to prevent the boss' damage for a short while and contribute to the fight despite her own negligible damage. Her amber eyes drifted up towards the health bar floating in the sky above them. 'Still three-quarters to go...' She thought with a small huff of breath. She looked downward for a few brief moments, holding her hands out in front of her. They turned palm-downward and then back up before her fingers curled in slightly. 'Less than ten percent chance...' The thought hung in her mind while she looked back up at the monster. The occasional sparks that had appeared around Avalanche's body grew fainter, the paralyze effect threatening to end.

Aster's eyebrows narrowed before she picked her legs up, running toward the monster again. Despite her own doubt in the odds, she felt the familiar crackling of lightning dancing around her wrists. The girl didn't have the same momentum to boost herself up to the weakened spot in the monster's icy leg, but instead struck the its frozen foot just before it had been able to lift high into the air. The electricity in her weapon discharged just as it had before, channeling throughout the monster as the paralyze status refreshed.

  16. Once her message had been posted, Aster took some time to better get to know the layout of the fifth floor's main city. She didn't plan to build or identify as a scout player or info broker, but she sometimes found herself gathering her own data when time allowed. The ginger walked through Armadillo, doing her best to ignore the heat from the sun that beat down on her.

Over in the main shopping district, she had just considered looping back to the inn or tavern closer to the center of town to take shelter and rest when the familiar sound of a new message chimed in her ears. Aster stopped in her tracks, navigating her menus and pulling up her messages. A familiar name displayed above the body while she read through Husky's message. A small smile found its way to her face, both because she was satisfied to receive results on her bulletin message so quickly, and because Husky was a player she was familiar with. There would be no need for introductions or learning the fighting styles of strangers. Pressing down on the small button that read 'Reply', Aster wrote up a brief response, proposing that they meet up in front of the inn at the center of town. The girl assumed he was still in Armadillo if he had seen her message on the bulletin board, and the inn was a landmark in the city that couldn't be missed. Once she had sent off the message to the brunette player, Aster dismissed her menus and made her way towards their meeting place.

    @Husky

  17. The sandstone floor in Armadillo was uncomfortably hard beneath Aster's feet. The alchemist pushed up her glasses as she walked, frowning slightly in discomfort as the heat in the air enveloped her. Having nearly dragged herself to the fifth floor, Aster knew there were still quests in the area that she had avoided. 'Perhaps if I can post a bulletin for any questing parties...
The ginger was lost in thought while she tried to formulate a plan, tapping on her chin with an index finger as she walked. She was in need of more experience to be able to level up her skills, but she wasn't going to be able to get that experience on her own. With a small nod to herself, as if she had made a decision, Aster located the town's bulletin board across from a tavern that seemed to be plenty busy despite the sun still hanging overhead.

As she approached the board, menus appeared in front of her, prompting the girl to write a message or choose from the options of different players' advertisements. She typed out on the keyboard that hovered in the air, carefully wording her request. When she was happy with the message, the ginger pressed 'Accept' to have it published, putting up a request to join any questing parties that were in need of a support player.

  18. Positioned off to the side of the monster after her attempted attack, Aster was far out of range to heal Morgenstern. Luckily, the blonde man didn't seem to need any attention after the boss' wide attack missed the tank. Itzal was unharmed as well, and the ginger had kept herself well out of melee range while she analyzed the battlefield. 'So far, so good.' She thought, amber eyes now flickering up towards the health bar hovering high in the air. It was still very much in the green, and if she had to guess she would say about a fifth had been drained so far. Her gaze lingered after Itzal's attack, watching the monster's icy appendage as it lifted off the ground. Avalanche had only been turning itself, quickly crashing its foot down again. As it did so, Aster felt the corner of her mouth pull up into a smirk. The point of impact where Itzal's sword had pierced the monster left several tendrils of cracked ice spreading out from it.

'Or we can make one.' Aster mentally chimed in on the topic of a weak spot. Her left hand balled into a fist, and Aster quickly felt the crackling of lightning begin to dance around her hand wraps. She ran up to the boss, closing the gap between them to reach the point of Itzal's last strike. As her fist collided with the monster's icy flesh, the electricity surrounding her arm discharged, running up the lengths of the cracks in Avalanche's body until the monster was visibly paralyzed from the effect.

  19. Aster followed along behind the two men while Velnia and Reginald chased each other at their own pace further behind the players. The ginger slipped her hands into her pockets, feeling a chill from the icy winds that whipped through the floor. She would have to put a priority on getting that skill she recalled hearing about--the one that prevented most environmental effects. The thought was beyond appealing--she would no longer have to worry about her health bar depleting from something as simple as a strong wind.

The journey was relatively quiet and didn't last long. The blonde tank had spoken up immediately before the sound and feeling of the ground rumbling beneath them echoed throughout the area. In front of them, a glacial abomination rose from the ground, snow falling away from the icy surface of its body as the monster stood up. 'Not a respawn, but almost...a reincarnation?' Aster stared at the creature thoughtfully. A small smile appeared on her lips, seemingly unintimidated by the massive elemental towering over them. True to the description of his role, Morgenstern reacted swiftly to grab Avalanche's attention, Itzal springing into action shortly after. Taking in a deep breath, the healer's amber eyes darted around the battlefield. Avalanche hadn't attacked them yet, so Morgenstern was at full health. Itzal shouldn't be in danger of taking damage, and they were essentially getting a free turn against the enemy before its colossal body would be able to react and swing at them. Aster's shoulders tensed up; she might as well try to contribute while they had the chance to do damage. Running through the snow, the ginger was clearly slower than her scout party member. Aster approached the monster, raising her fists in front of her torso. Before she was close enough to strike, however, Avalanche's massive foot pulled up from the ground in order for him to move forward. Rather than being able to strike the boss, Aster found herself quickly dodging out of the way of the slab of ice.

  20. "Mm, that's right," Aster nodded as the redhead summed up the functions. "There are a lot of items that boost certain stats. Potions and food give you temporary bonuses, and if you get better equipment those are permanent increases." A small smile settled on her features. It was nice to be able to explain things to someone else, something she hadn't had the opportunity to do in quite a while. Lately, she had been the one being taught about the different systems of the game and how it functioned. She spoke up again, continuing on. "Combat is almost the same as fighting in real life," Her fingertips nudged at the rim of her glasses. "Your physical capabilities are set to a standard, though. So is doesn't matter if you aren't athletic. Everything about your avatar is controlled through your mind," she prattled on, "so when you when to use a sword art, just think about activating it. This system had some way of guiding your movements and the ability will trigger for more damage." The ginger nodded matter-of-factly.

Spotting the same pack of boars that the red-haired man seemed to lay his eyes on, Aster's eyebrows narrowed slightly in a serious expression. "Don't take on more than one at a time. See if you can just fight against one. I can heal you if necessary."

  21. "Dual wield?" Aster mumbled aloud, her head tilting slightly at the concept. She hadn't seen any player with more than a single one-handed weapon equipped, so the thought of wielding two at once was surprising. The ginger immediately began wondering whether or not such a thing was a function of the game, how that changed a player's damage output, and other intricacies around the idea as her thoughts wandered.

"Oh," She soon pulled herself back to reality, realizing that the man had asked her a different question. Her shoulders tensed up a bit before she gave her answer. "Well, I wouldn't be able to show you..." Her first words were a bit quiet before she spoke up a bit. "But everything is connected to your thoughts and movements. Basically, if you think about using a sword skill--err, sword art--" she corrected her terminology, "the system should take care of the rest." The girl nodded matter-of-factly. Most of her explanation had come from the details in their beginner handbook with a few holes filled in from word-of-mouth that she'd gotten from other players. Without any points in her own weapon skill, Aster had never been able to put the action into practice.

"Oh, here." The girl hurriedly opened her menus and materialized a single glass vial in each hand, filled with an identical orange liquid. "Drink this. They're not very high quality, but it will give you a bonus to your damage." She explained briefly, handing over one of the vials before drinking the contents of the other herself.

  22. Aster walked over to what would now be a small group forming around a green-haired man. Assuming that @Stryder had been following along with her, the healer stopped and surveyed the other two players--the one who had advertised himself as assistance with some quest, and a white-haired girl who also seemed interested in taking up on the offer. Though it was difficult to discern at a glance, the girl assumed that the man who had called out was a higher level than all the other players surrounding him. Surprised at the man's willingness to take on an entire party of less experienced playesr, Aster wasn't in a position to question his kindness, if that's what it was. She wasted little time, taking in a breath before approaching @Hirru and offering the man a small curtsy in polite greeting. "If you have room for a healer in your party, I would be happy to join you." The ginger laced her fingers together in front of her as her spine straightened again. She glanced over to the raven-haired player to see if he would introduce himself as well.

    @Yuurei

  23. An odd pairing to say the least, Aster and Stryder continued searching for materials in relative silence. The bookworm continued searching through the field, trees, and bushes in hopes of more items. She made sure not to stray too close to the boars and other monsters that roamed the floor. They were low-level creatures, and Aster might have been able to handle them even on her own, she preferred not to fight whenever possible. She felt as though labeling herself as a pacifist wasn't too far off. The girl wasn't squeamish by any means--after all, an aspiring doctor couldn't let things like blood or human injuries to bother her. Unfortunately, that kind of ability wasn't useful to her here, where pain and physical injury was impossible. Still, the ginger didn't care to participate in the violence of slaying monsters. She would much rather stay back and put players back on their feet in the heat of battle.

  24. Just as she straightened back up and the material had completely disappeared from her hand, Aster's attention was caught on an unfamiliar voice. The girl turned towards the source, her amber eyes resting on a player with fiery red hair. Boasting a couple of inches on her, the girl looked at the man for a moment before registering his question. "Oh," She looked thoughtful for a moment. "Sure, I don't mind." The words left the ginger with a faint British accent to them. She tapped an index finger to her chin before continuing. "Well, a shop is the most straight-forward way to get equipment, but you'd need some money." She trailed off a moment, assuming that wasn't an option available to the red-haired man. "You could also kill monsters." She stated plainly, turning slightly to look back over the field. Wild monsters were scattered about, following their programmed grazing routes until a player would get close enough to initiate combat.

  25. At a brisk pace, Aster made for the eastern gate in the Town of Beginnings. The ginger's short orange hair bounced lightly with her step, and her fingers laced themselves together behind her as she walked with purpose. Out of materials, and with too much time on her hands, the alchemist had decided today would serve well for gathering some items to serve as fuel for more potions.

Making her way outside of the safe zone, the rolling hills and grassy fields of the first floor stood before her. The girl brought her heels together as she came to a stop, eyes scanning thoughtfully over the vast area. Wild boars grazed in static patterns, and she could spot another player here or there either roaming the fields or taking part in combat. She didn't wait very long before continuing to walk, the sides of her white shoes brushing against the tall grass. Quickly spotting a familiar herb amongst the grass, the healer knelt down to pick the item up and deposit it into her inventory.
