  1. Shield waved farewell to Neo. He did not expect further business, and for a while, he was right. What he especially did not expect to see was his fellow merchant and occasional traveling companion, Hirru. "Now this is a visit that I had not anticipated." He gave a half smile and a tip of his head to the hunter, looking over the equipment he had selected. "Very well. I'm glad to see some of my rare finds finally getting some use." He looked over the Col that Hirru had sent before sliding the items back across the counter. "There you are. I appreciate your visit. I was beginning to think other

  3. Shield took both sets of items, sorting out that which was to be identified and which were to simply be resold at another time. He set the first of Neo's weapons on his scales, then the second, frowning at each when they failed to tip the balances. "Well, nothing of particular note," he sighed, tapping each in turn to summon the item menu to identify. He showed Neo the results before turning to Mortambo. "And yours now," he said, also setting it on the scales. Again, they did not move. He checked the enhancements and handed it back to the owner. "I'll go ahead and send you the tool you re

  7. As Macradon entered, Shield gave him a smile and a nod. "Good to see you, friend. Here for your usual mountain of crafting materials?" Upon hearing the request, Shield gave an incline of his head and turned to the nearby shelf, taking down his scales. One at a time, he placed the items on the arms of the balance. Unfortunately, the scale heads did not move for any, which told him there was nothing out of the ordinary about them, but as they were weighed, he checked them one at a time. "A decent amount of offensive capability in those consumables, but nothing outstanding in the equipment,"

  9. Shield was just making a few transfers out of his backup stores to make some purchases when a new player stepped foot in his shop. He bought a handful of Shield's old items and Shield gave a partial smile. "Take good care of all of that," he said, gesturing to the axe and shield. "Those were items I took out into the field myself. Made good use of them too, before Regen was patched." He accepted the Col transfer and waved to the newcomer. "Be safe. It's a rough game out there," he said, watching Frank exit.
  10. When Calypso turned around, Shield was just turning around himself, offering out a gift-wrapped parcel that was about the size of his two cupped hands. He looked surprised, clearly unaware that Callie was doing the same thing behind his back that she was doing behind his. He hurriedly dismissed the package and scratched the side of his nose, trying not to look too concerned that he had been spotted. "Shall we keep going then? I was hoping to make my big purchase sooner rather than later." He made his way to the center of the festivities, trying his best to avoid making eye contact with th
  11. Shield shook his head at @Calypso's offer to buy something on his behalf. "That wouldn't be right. I'm plenty survivable as it is. This is a good chance to get you something that will keep you safe or make you hit harder. Whatever you get you should keep it yourself." He lowered the beard, placing it back on the merchant's display rack, the proprietor of which rolled his eyes. Shield got the impression he had not been the first person to play with the wares rather than buy them. He subtly took a few coins from his inventory and set them next to the stall owner's elbow. "Hard to say," he t
  12. Yet again, the mysterious player stepped into his doors and made a hasty purchase. This time at least, he could not leave until Shield had made his transfer of materials. "We have such brief encounters. We interacted indirectly at a boss meeting. Other than that, we're practically strangers. That seems odd considering how well known you are to some of my friends." He sent off the items and closed the transfer window. "Maybe another time. You seem in a rush." He waved goodbye to the other player.
  13. As Callie stiffened and reacted to Spencer's teasing, Shield's eyes were busy inspecting the familiar. He had not seen a penguin before in SAO, so it was a bit of an oddity. By the time @Calypso spoke, he was mentally somewhere else entirely, not having noticed the exchange. "Hm? Sorry? Oh! Don't worry about it. Are you ready to go?" He glanced over at the stalls, realizing immediately that he was likely the one who would not be ready. Regardless, he took a moment to breathe and strode forward, the packed snow crunching and squeaking slightly under his heavy boots. Shield's dark eyes scanned u
  14. "Well, at some point tonight, I'm sure I'll have to apologize to some of those players for my rude exit," he sighed, turning to properly regard @Calypso now that he had returned to his baseline. His breathing slowed, although he could still feel a touch of warmth in his face. Must be the cold. The 'Survival' skill in his player menus would disagree with that, but at the present time, he did not have a better explanation. "I'll also be returning to purchase one of those non-'freebies,' though I'd like a chance to think over that selection. At the moment, the choice seems too... obviou
  15. @Cosi had been perfectly sufficient company considering Shield's reluctance to attend in the first place. He was a kindred, somber spirit, in a sense. The greeting from @Hikoru was also pleasant, and he returned it with a nod and about as much of a smile as he felt willing to give, which was not nothing. The surprise hug from @Baldur, on the other hand, was entirely more than he had bargained for. "The armor is a perfect fit for my build, Hik. I really appreeeee-" He grimaced slightly as he lost most of his lungful of air to the hug, though he did not reject the gesture. Once he was at arm's l
  16. Mina had gone off on her way for now, so Shield remained by @Cosi. It was tolerable company at least compared to the overly-merry festival goers all around them. He did not begrudge them. After all, in their imprisoned state, finding any source of happiness was worthwhile. It was at least comforting to know that those he knew at least understood where he was coming from. "It helps knowing someone else is on the same page," he finally said aloud, glancing over to Cosi. "Sometimes having a hard time over the holidays results in more accusations than understanding. Criticisms for being a 'Scrooge
  17. Shield had not expected to be addressed so soon, so when @tricolor_mina approached him, he instinctively winced a little. He turned to her, trying his best to give a warm greeting. "Hello, Mina," he said, giving a slight incline of his head which made the pompom of his had tumble off of his shoulder and dangle beside his chin. "No, you don't need to worry about me. Christmas is just... a time for family and friends. A lot of grow-ups have a hard time around the holidays. They remember the people they miss and they people they can't be with." He gave the younger player a pat on the top of
  18. Shield didn't really 'do' Christmas. It was a time of year that was especially hard on him, considering what all he had left behind. I was a struggle, and a deep-seated one. Every Christmas prior to this one in SAO, he had stayed shut in whatever lodging he was using a the time, trying not to think of what was out in the real world waiting for him. No, Shield did not do Christmas. He did, however, do rare items. That is precisely how he fund himself in Snowfrost, decked in an overly festive Santa hat, complete with a sprig of holly over the brow and Lilith resting on his shoulder in
  19. Shield nodded as Hikoru entered his shop, already eager to complete the trade they had arranged. "Of course," he said, opening a trade window of his own and queuing up his end of the deal. "It's one of the last Heart Stickers," he said, hitting the final 'Accept' button to send it over. "Each time they create these kinds of items, they get used like crazy, and then suddenly there are only a handful left." He closed the trade window and pulled up the specs of the greaves. "Thank you, Hik," he said with another slight nod of his head. "I'm aware that you're being generous on this trade. Granted,
  20. Buying from stock: Total [-33,000 Col] A newcomer entered Shield's shop, or at least a player he did not recognize. He checked the order over that had been presented to him, and he gave a nod, placing the requested items on the counter. He did not take his hand off of them immediately though. "I will allow the sale out of fairness since I had no notice posted to the contrary," he began, giving the mystery player a stern look through the fog that hid his features. "However, it is a disservice to present yourself in such a manner. This shop is outside of all floor safe zones as a ser

  22. Shield looked over the items that Zandra had given him, placing them one at a time on Hermes' Scales, and frowning each time that they failed to tip the balance. Each time, they remained stationary, unmoving. "Well, we can rule out anything unusual, so let's see if anything it properly combat balanced." He took them down one at a time and selected the option to identify, checking the readout of each. "Looks like you have a double Regen item, but Regen has been nerfed so hard that it's likely not worth your time." He passed the items back across the counter to Zandra. "Sorry. Nothing special th

  24. Shield gave Neo a nod and took down his golden scales from the shelf. He laid the first rapier on the balance and frowned. The scale heads did not move. He sighed and tapped the magnifying glass icon, watching as the item stats were displayed for him. "It looks like this first one is accuracy and bleed. This will be a good weapon to use if you and I are adventuring together to avoid stun-lock while still getting in some decent bleed damage, but nothing super special," he said, passing it over the counter to Neo before taking the second one. He laid it on the balance and again the heads did not
