  2. Despite their lengthy and grandiose displays of combat prowess, Telrenya’s stamina had barely been scratched. Each sword art she threw out had fizzled without a target, and so Cardinal hadn’t deemed it necessary to present any symptoms of fatigue. So she continued, another quick turn, a dash and a parry. ”Oh, of course not!” She shot back with a smile. Just as soon as she’d quipped back, her eyes lit up as she spotted an opportunity. An unmistakable chance to slip past his defenses, just once. ”But neither are you!” Her voice came with emphasis as she lunged deeply, dropping her stance an

  4. ”Hah!” Vigilon’s comment got her to laugh. ”I didn’t even know you had a sister,” She remarked back, giving in to the mild banter, ”but I hope she’s cheering me on!” Telrenya had loosened up a bit. Witty comments and clever jokes certainly weren’t her forte, but the company she’d shared for so long must have rubbed off on her somewhat. They were evenly matched, it seemed, each of them fighting tooth and nail to find an opening in the other’s defenses. Telrenya’s health sat noticeably less full than Vigilon’s as the remainder of his weapon’s additional damage ran its course and she spotted

  6. "Of course!" Telrenya greeted Hakai's request with a bright smile and carefully opened up the crumpled piece of paper with her order on it. "Oh... Alright, sure." Her customer service was a little bit stilted, her brain caught up in what kind of creative liberties she might even want to take after Hakai had offered. A rabbit's foot necklace was a classic for a lucky charm, after all. She regained her focus with a fervent nod when she offered to pay with materials as if it wouldn't be satisfactory. "No, that's quite alright." She insisted. "I've actually been meaning to go stock up. This s
  7. ”What?!” No sooner than Telrenya had flashed her mirror and reflected the harsh effects of Vigilon’s attack, she was left staring at her own reflection in the mirror he held up right back at her. She flinched as the renewed burn and blight chipped away at her health, and she sucked her teeth as the reality of his counter-move sunk in. She shook her head, forced to laugh off the misfortune. ”No, that makes sense. It was a smart move to prepare.” She was kicking herself alongside the compliment, but did her best not to let it show. She’d just have to go about this the old fashioned way. A l
  8. Her opponent made the first move. Telrenya flicked her rapier up to take a defensive position, but even with a generous backstep, Vigilon got too close. A quick feint, and she was left with no room to maneuver. His strike came fast and true, and Telrenya was left stumbling backwards to catch herself. That was a nasty hit. She was just about to lunge back into the fray for a counterattack, but she flinched in hesitation. Her eyes flickered to the top of her HUD, where she could spot the two new icons resting beneath her health bar. She winced a little as she watched the status effects alre
  9. Telrenya’s cheeks burned at her introduction. So many times had she thought to drop out of the competition. So many times had she considered calling it quits. She didn’t need to be doing this to prepare herself for the frontlines. With three stinging losses under her belt and their host’s announcement of her only victory thus far coming from a withdrawal, Telrenya questioned why she hadn’t thrown in the towel yet. She entered the arena and regarded Vigilon with a nervous trepidation. Clearly her confidence had long since wavered, but his greeting distracted her briefly. She flashed a forc

  13. ’I’m going to die.’ It was going down. Still going down. Emptying. Draining. Disappearing. Returning to n̴̪̍o̴̘̽t̷͍̕h̴̛͍i̶̢͊n̶͎͋g̸̹͛. ’I’m going to die…!’ She couldn’t see the green anymore. Telrenya’s eyes snapped back to attention where Wulfrin stood before her, arm outstretched, point of his blade at her chest. Her body came back to life in a rush that flooded her and she stumbled backwards, landing hard on the ground. Everything was shaking. Her hands, her eyes, her knees, her shoulders trembled with an overpowering, unseen force that clawed at the very fabric of her mind. T
  14. He was incredibly well-spoken, almost intimidatingly so. His formality, composure, and polite demeanor all intermingled together in a way that seemed well-suited to him, she thought. She watched as he plucked away at the strings while he spoke, and the return of his question gave her pause. How long had it been? Since Ruby died. Since she’d learned about her brother’s death. Since they’d been trapped here. ”It’s… It is hard to keep track, now that you mention it.” She forced out, having searched for an answer that would never come to light. She wondered if anyone knew exactly how long it
  15. Another bundle of flowers. Red hibiscus and yellow roses cradled in white parchment, this one placed on practically the other end of the monument. She stole a glance at Ruby's name before turning back in time for Boreas' fomral introduction. He shared his own reason for visiting and the people he mourned. "Your whole guild...?" She echoed with disbelief. The thought made her heart hurt. How heavy would her shoulders feel if it wasn't just Ruby's name crossed out from the Holy Dragon Alliance. Ruby, Kimi, Hestia, Spencer, Jomei... A somber silence fell between them, as did Telrenya's eyes.
  16. He was quiet. Everything was quiet. As her eyes ran over the space between them, they eventually landed on the sword in his hand. Her brows twitched in the absence of recognition. That wasn’t the same weapon he’d used in his previous matches, was it? She was all but certain that was the primary source of the ice effects that he’d been dominating with until now… There she was again. Distracted. The blade she held at the ready may as well not have even been there. A swift clash of metal and Dawnbreak was pushed aside like a mild inconvenience. Her stunned expression lingered as every p
  17. She smiled warmly at his polite demeanor and cast a glance over her shoulder at his invitation for small talk. "Yes," She gave a single nod, "it's a bit of a new practice for me, but I wanted to start leaving flowers for some of the people I knew." Her cheeks took on the slightest touch of pink embarrassment after saying it out loud, and she shifted back to the bundles cradled in her arms. Pulling one aside, she set it down gently underneath the column where her brother's username was listed. Blue irises intermingled with daisies were wrapped in pale yellow paper. She wasn't good with the
  18. Out of all the locales their hosts had arranged for this tournament, the dreadful floor 29 hadn't even crossed Telrenya's mind as a possibility. She shifted uncomfortably as she stood at one side of the decrepit arena, stealing nervous glances between her opponent Wulfrin on the other end and their host Kindling off to the side. Her hand went to grasp the handle of her rapier as he called to address them, but before she could draw the blade free from its scabbard she made the mistake of following his voice and his gesture towards the otherworldly entity looming above. Telrenya stood as an
  19. Telrenya sat up in bed. Light shone past the sheer curtains of her inn room and she rubbed at her eyes in an attempt to will the sleepiness away and clear the lingering fog in her brain. Her plans for today were already decided, so staying in bed just wouldn't do. With a yawn, she pulled her legs over the side of the soft white sheets and pushed herself up to her feet. Taft was as bright and quaint as always. The sun was out to greet her, peeking up over the tall clocktower that stood on the far side of the city as it brought the morning with it. Her typical 'adventuring' attire sat tucke
  20. With the both of them spent, the stagnant air hanging all around them, Telrenya had to fight not to put too much weight onto her weapon. The hectic back-and-forth was over and she was grateful for a chance to rest. She met Jomei's eyes beneath her, the glaring sun behind her casting her shadow over him where he lay, and his smile was infectious. In that moment, her soul stirred and her chest swelled. For the first time in a long while, she was proud of herself. Though his eyes were closed, her smile stretched wide with excitement. 'You think so?!' She hadn't gotten the words out befo
  21. After so long spent running and tumbling under the sweltering desert sun, sweat was running down Telrenya's brow. She could feel the cloth sticking to her back. Her legs felt heavy. "I learned from the best!" She quipped with a smile. When the light reflected off the large silver coin between his fingers, Telrenya's expression fell with a quick reminder of the dismay she'd felt after her own failed flip of the coin. That feeling doubled down when Jomei was blessed by the luck of their hosts for the second time this match. She let out a defeated sigh, then readied herself when he once agai
