  1. Day 2:

Making his way to back room once more, Skeleton started pulling apparatus out from the shelves and drawers nearby. Setting up his usual salve crafting station, he made his way towards the books to the side. The musty tomes were beginning to go from musty to very well read with Skeleton's new use of them. They must not have been used for quite some time before Skeleton came along. Flipping through the pages, Skeleton compared his materials to the ingredients required. Just when he had found something he could attempt, he had found that he lacked the apparatus appropriate to prepare the salve.

Eventually, Skeleton decided to stick to his basics and began his work.

Again the craft was a failure. Skeleton had failed to retain any materials on either of his crafts.

  2. Watching Randal reply cheerily then proceed to take deep breaths in a manner Skeleton recognised from a co-worker who was stressed out very easily perplexed him. Still, Skeleton waived it off as just something people do. He assumed it was some kind of focusing method and continued on his search around the orchard. He tried to keep his search close to the water so as to keep an eye out for fish swimming too close to the surface.

    34 minutes ago, Randal said:

” Hey I’ll be right back. Just going to enjoy the water for bit.”

"Alright, let me know if you start to drown, I'm actually trained in cpr, if that even works here." Skeleton replied.

Skeleton had completely forgotten that drowning tends to be a rather silent event. He also had never actually seen someone drown and had no idea of the signs of a person drowning. Skeleton still continued his search among the orchard for materials despite the situational blindness, however he found nothing additional in his current search.

  3. 6 hours ago, Randal said:

“How about we start with some fishing?”

"Fishing? I've never been fishing before so why not. May as well give it a try." Skeleton considered.

Randal made his way towards the nearby pond where a few other players nearby were already fishing away at the wildlife. He noticed Randal passing by a few wooden spears inside a barrel, and grabbed a hold of one. It was rather smooth, with low chance of splintering, not that he had to worry about that in a game. He hoped. The last time Skeleton ended up with a splinter, it was in the side of his thumb, at least an inch deep. Neither of his parents cared that it was turning his thumb green, and not the good kind. He had ended up yanking it out himself at 3 am in the morning a day later out of fear of losing his thumb.

With fishing spear in hand, Skeleton felt like he could do better than working a fishing rod, as he has no idea how they function in the slightest. As Skeleton was searching the water, Randal pointed out a nearby orchard.

Almost as soon as Randal had pointed out the orchard and enclave, Skeleton had found none other than 2 materials he could make use of.

"Wow, this place is pretty packed with potential resources, huh?" Skeleton wondered aloud.

  4. Skeleton followed closely behind Randal as he was guided through the area. Taking the time to glance around and getting a feel for his surroundings. There were quite a few players around. Some were fighting mobs, others were searching around for what Skeleton assumed were materials, and others were fishing. What he noticed up ahead was what seemed to be outlined as a safe area.

Randal began quickly explaining the features of the area around them, including the training house nearby them which spawned mobs to train against. The area itself was generally rife with materials to gather for crafting. The very same materials that drop from mobs with a 100% guarantee on the drop rate. It was easy to see why Randal wanted to come here. As the materials were particularly rife, Skeleton had a quick check around to see if he could spot any in the nearby vicinity as he waited for Randal to weigh up options for activity.

Skeleton had indeed noticed a material, and quickly snatched it up to add to his inventory.

  5. Skeleton was dozing off in his armchair located at the back of his store. He heard the sound a received message notification. It was from Randal. He was looking to farm materials. Despite having an abundance at the moment, Skeleton figured that more wouldn't hurt. Better to stock up than run out. He picked himself up off the armchair and out through the store entrance. Outside he flipped the sign to closed and locked the door before turning to the gate down the road. Thankfully, Randal chose the one near his store to meetup.

A minute later and Skeleton was merely a few meters away from Randal. He raised a hand from his pocket to greet Randal.

"Yo, Randal." Skeleton said with a smile.

"Thanks for the invite, I've been considering gathering materials to future proof my stock a little." Skeleton said as he approached.

It was time for Skeleton to learn to actually fight.

  6. Day 1:

Skeleton hung the sign up above the counter as the final piece in opening his new store. Things had moved rather quickly for him these last couple of days. Not only had he completed several quests back to back, he'd become a somewhat passable alchemist with a store to match. Climbing down from the stepladder, he walked towards the entrance, pulling out a key, and opening up shop for the day. He slightly opened the door, to not ring the bell, reached out and flipped the store sign to "Open" from "Closed".

Moving back behind the counter, he lowered the slab, completing the counter, and moved to the back room after a quick bell test to ensure it worked.

He began pulling out his own private apparatus to begin crafting new salves. He wanted to begin crafting potions soon.

    A clinical and medicinal smell emanates throughout the store, reaching slightly beyond the entrance door into the the street. Stepping through the door you hear the bell above ring as the door opens, and again as it closes. Shelves of seemingly unorganised bottles line the walls as the building moves along the room. A counter parting the room at the back reaches to 4 feet in height, extending the entire way across the back of the room, leaving a raise-able slab which covers the far left of the counter, allowing the staff to move between the main store area and the back of the counter. The counter itself seems to have apparatus and books splayed the entire length. A doorway leading to a back room is seen at the far right. A sign hangs from above the counter;

Please press bell for service should no staff be present.

“Have you found what you needed?”

"Yeah, 5 materials. Tier 1. Just need to head back to Evangeline's tent and I can get started." Skeleton said.

Backtracking to the tent was easily done. Upon arriving, Evangeline Calora was eagerly waiting outside her tent, already attempting to usher Skeleton inside.

"Come now, dear. It is time to begin. I assume you have properly gathered the required materials?" She started.

"Y-yes, I did." Skeleton said as he was pushed into the tent.

"Perfect my dear. First things first is crafting a salve, do as I do and you will be an Alchemist in no time. You would be wise to stick to salves until you're more experienced." Evangeline continued.

Her hands whipped and darted as she prepared the materials, tools and salve itself. Quickly whipping one in to creation. Skeleton was far more prepared than even he himself anticipated. He quickly mimicked her movements without a second thought, stringing together the salve just a few seconds shy of Evangeline herself.

"Oho~ You have quite the gift to be able to keep up as you did. I think you'd be capable of running your own tent just like mine~" she said in a sing song tone.

She quickly whipped out a piece of paper. It stated that Evangeline Calora has personally consented and provided a recommendation as well as funds for Skeleton to open up shop or tent in the town of beginnings. It was quickly shoved in to Skeleton's hand as she had a grin from ear to ear.

"Take this to the store proprietor and you shall be up and running, dear~ Do try to not put me out of business~ Ohoho~" she cackled.

Almost as quick as he was in the tent, he was back outside. Staring at Randal with a new salve in hand, and a piece of paper in the other. Unbeknownst to Skeleton, she had stuffed his pockets with 5 additional T1 Materials, and he kept the remaining 4 T1 materials he had not used.

  10. Skeleton had looked around for signs of tripewires or pitfalls, but found nothing out of the ordinary. Then he thought to himself that he had no idea what he was even looking for and shook away the thought. The cabin was a rather neatly crafted home, conditioned to seal as much in as possible. There were signs of living, as smoke was billowing out of a chimney, and a table he saw through the window had an empty plate.

Skeleton raised a hand and knocked on the door with his knuckles.

"Hello? Is anyone home? We're here looking for medicine. Someone sent us here because they were injured in the woods." Skeleton called.

There was no answer, leaving Skeleton to put his hands in his pockets and just swivel, looking around while waiting for a reply. Like an idiot.

Part way up the path Skeleton recognised another material he required, he moved over to it, scooped it up and continued to move towards the cabin. Or where the NPC said the cabin was located.

The foliage of the forest was beginning to thicken in this portion, and Skeleton couldn't help but grow concerned. Unless there was a clearing nearby, no boars or cabins would be in the area at all. Skeleton began to let out a whistle as he began to scan the area around him. It was getting eerily quiet, and Skeleton didn't like that.

After a short period of time, which felt much more extended by the standing hairs on Skeleton's neck, he came to an abrupt clearing. The clearing was manufactured, tree stumps littered the area. It seems old as there was moss beginning to grow on the stumps. No external buildings with only a single plain cabin in the center. It was likely where all the trees resources were put.

Skeleton began approaching the cabin, trusting that Randal was still nearby.

As Skeleton listened in to Randal's questioning of the NPC while turning his back and keeping a look out for any strange activity.Thankfully he managed to spy a material he needed, so zipped over to quickly pluck it from the ground. It seemed like Randal may be worried about this being a possible con. Skeleton had begun to consider if there were possibly a group of thugs just waiting for them to enter the cabin before attacking.

As Randal's conversation came to an end, Skeleton turned to the NPC with a smile on his face.

"A boar attack is horrible, don't worry bud, we'll get your medicine for you." Skeleton said with an upbeat tone that made his own head stir.

As he said this, he wrapped an arm around Randal's neck, pulling him along, keeping up the act until he was sure the guy would be out of earshot.

"How about I go ahead, and you hang back, if there are assailants, I'd be baiting them out. A whistle every so often to let you know I'm not dead?" Skeleton whispered.

Skeleton was picking up a material he had just found when he watched Randal make his way off to the side, signalling him to follow.

    2/5 T1 Materials Gathered.

As Skeleton carefully made his way towards Randal, the scent of blood snaked it's way into Skeleton's nostrils. He grimaced. Sometimes the game was a little too realistic. Skeleton had taken to crouching low as he followed Randal around the tree trunk, finding a supposed quest from a man laying on the ground in front of them. One wound, looks like slow bleeding but he's been there for a little while. Skeleton looked around the area, but wasn't able to find any enemies, only a trail of blood slowly making it's way east.

Skeleton turned towards Randal, giving a wordless nod of approval, and carefully stepped out into the clearing. He approached the NPC, who had an empty sheathe on his waist for a dagger, and was holding his hands at his wound to staunch the flow.

"Excuse me, is there anything I can do to help?" Skeleton asked.

The man looked towards Skeleton with gritted teeth before finally opening his mouth to speak.

"Was hunting a boar, lost my knife. One the damned pigs tusked me in the side. I tried to get back to my cabin for medicine but I have no strength to move. Please get them for me. They're on the shelf above the stove." he replied.

For a man bleeding out he sure had energy to talk, skeleton thought to himself. He once again turned back to Randal, looking for his opinion.

  14. 2 hours ago, Randal said:

“Hey man, have you thought about what kind of familiar you want?

Skeleton was slowly waddling through the grass, when Randal asked about the familiars. Skeleton hadn't given it much thought, but he wanted something that's go well with his planned skill set. Evasive, accurate, low maintenance, that kind of thing. His mind wandered through possibilities, but he couldn't see himself with a wolf, or a cat, or a dragon. They would be cool, no doubt about that, but he didn't want to force a familiar into a trophy role.

"Hmm... That's a good question. To be honest I haven't, no. I was kind of thinking it was random, but if we can select the familiar species specifically, that's going to stall me. I'll have to think about it now then. Got plenty of time anyways." Skeleton replied.

"We needed 5 of them. But from the looks of things we're going at a decent pace." Skeleton replied.

Skeleton once again began crouching down, sitting on his heels as he reached out to part the grass. He wasn't finding what he needed, but he continued searching steadily. The thought of the different kinds of potions he could was interesting, but he didn't think much on the kind of processes he'd have to learn. There's bound to be information, as long as he had a book and instructions, Skeleton was confident he could craft a potion.

"How do you feel about your profession anyways? Being a chef seems kinda stressful. You're a nutritionist mainly, right? How do you balance nutrition with taste?" he asked.

Skeleton was curious as he imagined that his potions were expected to be bitter or gross, but necessary for self preservation, or self assurance in this environment.

  16. 18 hours ago, Randal said:

    “No”

The bluntness of Randal's reply went over Skeleton's head, thankfully Skeleton was used to, and was fine with replies like this.

    18 hours ago, Randal said:

“I just got back to town not too Long ago when I heard you calling out for me, I then came over as soon as I could, besides, at my level, nothing I can find here would drop any loot for me.”

"That's understandable. I just got back too, didn't expect to find this quest so easily." Skeleton explained absent minded.

Skeleton was mid crouch when Randal opened his mouth.

    18 hours ago, Randal said:

“Is this what you were doing prior to the carnival? Smelling all grass like haha.”

Now in full crouch, Skeleton tilted his head towards Randal as he parted some grass.

"Heh, yeah... I spent 3 days sifting through grass for a quest..." Skeleton explained.

“Hopefully this will help...truth be told it’s not all that easy to gather things either.”

"Thanks." Skeleton said as he started biting in to the snack.

This was Skeleton's first time trying soy bean but they were surprisingly tasty. He quickly finished the snack, ready to get back to work.

  17. The sight of Randal gave Skeleton relief. It'd only been a short while and they were teaming up once again.

    6 minutes ago, Randal said:

“So today you’re the party leader, as thanks for helping me out the last time and the promise of many discounts, where shall we head to first?”.

"A leader for once, eh? I don't think I'll get used to it. How about we head out to the local fields for materials, that tends to be where they be." Skeleton said as he motioned to the nearby town exit.

He began walking out of the town, with Randal in tow. He'd been dreading having to gather the materials but hopefully with Randal things won't drive him so near insanity as last time where  he had begun to think about the light spectrum to pass the time. At least this time he'll have conversation. The grassy fields didn't look to have changed much from the last time he was here. Which was literally 2 days ago. It was almost becoming home.

"So you get to try out the martial arts skill yet?" Skeleton asked Randal.

Skeleton had approached the local grass to search for materials, pulling the grass apart to search.

  18. Skeleton had eavesdropped about a quest which allows players to begin a store of their own, including a new profession. It was an accidental eavesdrop as he was sitting around resting from his recent rock breaking adventure, but it was welcome information regardless. He hadn't looked very hard to find the place he needed as it was a tent on the outskirts of town. He was looking for someone called Evangeline Calora.

"I think this is the place." Skeleton half mocked and half worriedly said as he approached the tent.

"Hello Dear, I see you are in need of a profession, may I interest you in Alchemy?"

She smiles sweetly and leaves here tent, a small vial of rainbow colored liquid pulsating in her hand.

"Now, I know it may seem very sciencey and scary, but I believe you can do it! And I hope you feel the same way."

"That is what I'm looking for, to be honest." Skeleton replied.

She beckons Skeleton into her tent to show them the way she crafts, her movements are very elegant and precise, her age shows that she is very wise in what she is doing.

"Now, I can teach you all about it sweety, but I seem to have ran out of some of my precious materials to give you a how-to on crafting, would you be a dear and run off to get me some? I think all I need is five, and I can help you on your way!"

She smiles a sweet smile, she seems to be happy someone wants to follow in on her noble profession.

Skeleton however felt a shiver down his spine.  5 Materials. He was about to go herb hunting again, wasn't he? he thought.

"I'll... get right on that then..."

Skeleton's shoulders dropped as he turned and made his way outside. He promptly opened up a menu to send a request to a new friend of his, Randal.

"Hey, I found a quest to allow me to take up Alchemy and start up a store. If you're willing to help me gather some materials in the nearby fields, I'd be more than happy to throw you a friendly discount if you ever need anything from my store." Skeleton attached his map position and hit send.

The message had been sent, and Skeleton sat waiting.

  19. Watching Randal strike the final blow on the rock was vicariously cathartic. Or it wou"ld have been if the rock's shrapnel and dust didn't have to explode in all directions. Skeleton attempted to make a subtle step to the left, only to accidentally step into the splash zone. Without flinching, he lifted his right hand to brush off some dust from his shoulder, pretending that there wasn't any on his hair, face, or everything else.

    30 minutes ago, Randal said:

“I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m a Chef myself, if you complete your respective profession quest you too can become like us. Any ideas what you want to be @Skeleton?”

Skeleton raised his arms into a fold as he relaxed his posture.

"I think I'd be interested in alchemy. Utility potions seem right up my alley." Skeleton answered.

"My current plan after today is likely gonna change to get a familiar of sorts then see about starting a craft. How about you guys? Got anything planned?"

Skeleton made his way towards the tree by the edge to sit down at it's base and lean against it, crossing his legs.

Skeleton brought himself back to the rock to give his next attempt. Leaning on his back foot, he fell into the punch with a straight right punch. The cracking sounds becoming more audible with each strike, and the cracks themselves becoming clearly more visible. The boulder was almost splitting into several pieces at this stage. Skeleton was confident it was going to break soon.

Taking a few steps back to allow An to take her next turn he overheard their talking about identification and managing their own shop.

"You own your own shop? That sounds tiring to me. Do you get many customers?" he asked.

  21. Skeleton poured the resultant formula into a cone shaped flask, the green mixture turning red as it cooled from being taken off the bunsen burner. The flask was then appropriately placed into a bucket with ice.

"You've done a marvelous job my friend. You've taken multiple steps in the correct direction, never mind just one. This is an excellent brew that even I would be proud of." Zachariah raved.

The praise was more than Skeleton had experienced before. He was all too unsure at how to react and if this was worth as much.

"Thank you for the evaluation, and for the instruction." Skeleton said with a bow.

Zachariah nodded with a smile and reached beneath the counter, pulling out a parcel.

"Despite my wish to keep you here and have you learn my craft inside and out, I'm afraid my role requires to ask you to progress. This parcel contains a few concoctions that a local blacksmith, Lyle Tealeaf, orders regularly. I would need you to deliver these to him for me." proposed Zachariah.

"I understand. Thanks again for the help, if I need any potions I know who to contact at least." Skeleton said with amusement.

Skeleton stepped forward to take the parcel from Zachariah. The parcel vanished to his inventory as Zachariah released his grip, saying his goodbyes.

    "Take care my boy."

    "I will."

Skeleton pushed the door open, stepping outside. A billow of smoke the next street over gave him an idea of where the blacksmith was situated. A few moments later confirmed Skeleton's suspicions as he made his way through the street towards a man wearing what seemed to be protective gear, hammering away at a red hot slab of metal on an anvil.

"Excuse me, would you be Lyle Tealeaf? Zachariah sent me with a delivery." Skeleton asked.

The man continued to strike the metal with what looked like brute force.

"That'd be me, aye. Thanks for the delivery, you can leave it on the bench behind me, I'm in the middle of this blade and can't afford the time to rework." he ordered.

As Skeleton approached the bench, the parcel generated in to his hands, so he could place it on the bench.

"Actually, as you're here, you wouldn't happen to mind helping an old man out, would you?"

  22. After regaining his composure, Skeleton raised his hand against the door, making his way inside. Zachariah was still pulling books to his desk and skimming through them when he noticed Skeleton return with the materials in his inventory.

"Excellent! You managed to collect the required materials! Come! Come!" Zachariah motioned wildly with his hands to wave Skeleton to his desk.

"I was beginning to worry as it's been a few days. Must have been difficult collecting them but worry not, I have more than enough materials to prevent you from needing to brave the wilds once more for materials. We shall move to crafting the potion, if that's all right with you?"

Hearing that he would not have to return for more material gathering was a weight off of Skeleton's shoulders. He would be tearing his hair out spending another half week getting herbs again.

"That's reassuring, it was a lot more difficult than I expected to be honest. I'd be glad to move on the next task." Skeleton replied.

Skeleton had moved behind the counter to stand beside Zachariah, who had prepared materials, equipment, and a book with the instructions. He had two sets of apparatus prepared, likely to be a "Teach By Doing" method.

Zachariah's hands were faster than Skeleton had expected. He had completely missed the first step, heat adjustment. The herbs were ruined as the temperature control was important. Too high a temperature can denature the herb.

While setting the heat temperature too low will prevent the herb from mixing correctly with the solution in the water, allowing it to instead mix too much with the air.

Zachariah's patience knew no bounds. Despite the wasted herbs, he calmly dissected the apparatus, replaced the contents and materials, and set it back to square one.

"Excellent, you're learning. Failure is not failure, it is simply a step in the wrong direction. All it takes is a step back, and a new step forward to proceed!" Zachariah said as he replaced the beaker.

Zachariah's relentless and dauntless support was overwhelmingly reassuring. It brought Skeleton's nerves back to base after he had failed the first step twice in a row. Taking a deep breath for composure, he began to watch Zachariah's process. Overlapping the technique he used with the instructions on the book, Skeleton had begun piecing the concoction together.

Skeleton was stunned. He was in a kneeling posture and he had been moving slowly to gather the herbs by continuing to cut the grass portion by portion but he had been brought to a complete halt.

    5/5 Herbs Collected.

He blinked. Expecting the number to revert, he maintained his motionless stance. The number stayed as is, bringing a smile to his face as he gripped the handle of his dagger harder, pumping his fist. Thankfully the blade was facing outwards, or he would have stabbed himself then and there.

    "Yes!"

Leaping to his feet, Skeleton began a full sprint back to Zackariah's workshop to deliver the materials. The fields he'd spent the last few full days, dawn to dusk in, passed as he moved. He dodged the people in the street, almost knocking them over once or twice as he came to a halt at the workshop door. He took a moment to catch his breath outside.

Skeleton clambered off the rock, dagger in hand. Making his way towards the grass, he approached a portion that dictated the edge of the field. Kneeling down, he grasped the clump and pulled the dagger cleanly through the base of the grass, near the roots, removing the clump in a neat slice. They vanished as quickly as he yanked them away.

"This may work, at least I'll have a clearer vision of my work space. I just hope this doesn't give me anything unexpected..." Skeleton said to no one in particular.

After a few more cuts and a little unofficial experience gained in becoming a lawnmower for the wilds, Skeleton had happened upon a herb that he accidentally gathered. It was between the blades of grass in his hand and he hadn't noticed that it was there until the quest updated in his HUD along with being added to his inventory.

    4/5 Herbs Collected.

This indication was a welcome breath of air. He was nearing the end of this damned expansive gardening quest.

Skeleton sat upon the rock, letting the sunlight wash over him and the field before him, along with the wind, he felt somewhat relaxed. He passed the dagger from one hand to the other repeatedly, as if he would grow more accustomed to using the weapon, or holding it. The weight the weapon held was rather light in comparison to what he had expected, but the blade looked much sharper. Looking at the blade, Skeleton began to look at the grass, narrowing his eyes.

"Maybe I should cut the grass. Is that possible...?" he mused.

Letting out a sigh, he began to once again moving the blade in his hand. Rotating it, flipping it, passing it to the other hand and back as he slowly lost focus on the movement and stared across the field. He had hoped to find these herbs and complete this quest soon, as it was taking him quite a few days to complete the task.
