Floor 11
<<I Know A Guy>>
Party Limit: 6
Repeatable for standard page rewards, Col and Tokens [Once every 3 months]

Quest Rewards:

  • 2,500 EXP
  • 5,000 Col
  • x3 Tokens to Guild Treasurer

Requirements:

Visit three different info brokers. Players must spend at least three posts talking to an info broker: one post to determine their price for the Info, one post to "pay" whatever price the broker is asking for, and another for the info itself.

Summary:

"We have a whole network of contacts that we're leaving untapped." Tired words rise from behind a mound of paperwork. "For a guild that is supposed to be chasing rumors, we don't have a lot to show for it. So we're changing that."

A hand parts the white sea, and the guild treasurer's face appears. Her other hand holds a sheaf of paper containing miniscule print and absent margins. Whatever is on the page looks more like sketches than writing.

"I've compiled a list of reliable brokers. Well, 'reliable' may be a strong word. At the very least, their info isn't maliciously bad. But..." Acanthus's eyes lose focus for a second before she remembers the active conversation. "I don't know how else to say it. Info brokers are weird. (No offense to Bistro.) Some of them want money, some of them want info, some of them want favors, and some just hand out info based on 'vibes. You should definitely avoid those brokers. I can never get info out of them."

Acanthus hands you a copy of the list. "Whenever you have a moment, check on a few of these. If you want to visit someone not on the list, that works too. We're not looking for anything specific: just keep your ears to the ground for farming routes, new dungeons, named mobs; that sort of thing. And don't—seriously, *don't*—go investigating them just yet. Bad info kills. You bring the information back here to me. Bistro and Morningstar will sift through it for the good leads, and then Wulfrin will coordinate teams to follow up. Expect to see those soon. For now, locate some info brokers and talk to them."

Acanthus unceremoniously shuffles the mountain of papers, disappearing into her work with an exhausted sigh.

Outline:

Tracker's Alliance is a guild built on information. While that Information can accrue naturally as its members travel Aincrad, sometimes the best way to get Information is to ask for It.

The party will need to travel to at least three different info brokers and interact with them to obtain information. Outside of the three-post requirement mentioned above, the form of the interaction and kind of information are left entirely to the players writing the thread.

Additional Entities:

The list below is just a starting point or source of inspiration. You are free to interact with brokers not on the list, whether you create them or refer to previously established characters.

Spoiler

Buxtapose. Floor 2. An NPC material vendor just off the main square of Urbus. He complains about something new every day, always focusing on how dirty or unsafe the town is. If players address his concerns, his dialogue will change, and he will reveal potential treasure trove locations on Floor 2.

Gartholomew. Floor 2. A frequent patron of the Rusty Dagger, and a bully-turned-softie after being "adopted" by a young Player that looks up to him. Gartholomew will usually ask the player for one of two things. On days where his old gang comes sniffing back around, he asks the Players to chase them off—peacefully if possible, but Gartholomew won't bat an eye at any non-lethal method. On quiet days, he will ask the Players if they have any gift ideas for the young Player that looks up to him. "Not like there's a birthday coming up. Back home, I was always bad about showing people I cared. I'm trying to be better." Once players satisfy Gartholomew's request, he will share information, often pertaining to low-level (Floor 10 and below) spots for new players to level up quickly.

Argent. Floor 22. The proprietor of an archetypical "wooden stool tavern" just outside of Coral. He holds a stern gaze, but chats softly and amicably with anyone that wanders in. Argent considers himself a "bad" info broker: he rarely charges for his information. After talking with Argent long enough, he will share any rumors or information he hears pass the lips of his patrons. A lot is said in Argent's tavern, but he is quick to warn that not all of it is good info.

Solomon. Floor 24. A young man that dresses in modern casual wear, and insists on being called by his "real world" name, Jeremy. (He responds to Solomon, but not without some mild frustration.) Solomon runs a smaller orphanage in Scalabis that takes in the more adventurous children and youths that have wandered away from the first floor. Solomon asks the players to sit with him and the children for a meal. He will quietly discourage the players from talking about their in-game quests, and asks them to focus on their life before Aincrad, but he will not risk direct confrontation over it. After a meal (and maybe some chores, such as skimming algae from the fishing pond, or pruning the herbs in the greenhouse), Solomon will share a surprisingly in-depth knowledge of some of the more dangerous places of Aincrad, including untouched dungeons. If the players leave a good enough impression, Solomon will share the comings and goings of orange players in the area, cautioning them to avoid those places.

Crow. Floor 15. A young, loud, and teasing girl that knows more than she lets on. Her first order of business is to not-so-subtly hint that her prices go down when players purchase her a drink. Crow is quick to boast about her info (and not without cause), but she will often demand convoluted favors, or even cold hard col. Players that satisfy her whims will be treated very specific-and very helpful-information about untapped dungeons, rare items, or even floor bosses. (if you decide to RP giving Crow col, her prices range from 10,000 to 100,000 col depending on the information. Her prices run high, but the Info is always good. Crow welcomes a good haggling session, but will pivot to requesting favors before letting the price drop too much. If you want to take the RP to the next step and “actually actually” give Crow money, you can send the transaction amount to Acanthus on site with the memo "Payment-Crow." Tag me when you do, and I'll put it in the guild treasury and force Morningstar to use it for appraisals.)

Aivelowge. Floor 13. An older NPC that lives in the central town of Angel’s Point. She perpetually works her way around the edge of town, weeding and keeping the green at bay. If players are able to clear out enough of the growth, she calls it an early day and retires to her home, where she invites the players to share some nettle tea. She will chat over tea about good fishing and foraging locations on Floor 13, as well as rumors from other floors (she will often phrase these as "stories" shared by others, rather than her own personal knowledge).

Powla. Floor 6. A fascinating NPC that defies reason and logic. She can always be found in the vicinity of Floor 6, but she also has a habit of finding the Players as well. Some even report finding her at their doorstep after a visiting. She is harmless enough, but ending the conversation can be a delicate dance of manners. Many players report that a shot of pickle vodka or some particularly good gossip will cause her to break out the good information before darting off. You never know exactly what Information she will offer, but she always has something to say, and never says the same thing twice.

Bullk. Floor 25. One of the minotaur guards of Lite’tara. Bullk offers a near limitless array of tidbits about field bosses, mobs, and anything else that can be fought. Much of this information is phrased as having gleaned it from those passing through, but he speaks with an accuracy that suggests personal knowledge. Any questions about his sources are met with a shrug. While Bullk has much information to offer, and he offers it freely, the trick is finding him in the first place. He rarely guards the same place twice. If he does stick to a schedule, it is complicated enough that nobody has been able to pin it down. To make matters worse, he looks exactly like every other NPC guard in Lite’tara. But for some strange reason, only Bullk seems to have an expansive knowledge of mobs.

Satoru. Floor 18. An old curmudgeonly player—except while he's eating. He hides out in Eriwald, one of the smallest main settlements in Aincrad. For one, he enjoys his peace and quiet. And for another thing, the small size means small security, which leaves few NPC guards to harass him about his orange marker. He does not take offense to questions or suspicions about his status, but he refuses to discuss how he earned it. "That's all in the past. I'm not proud of myself, but I earned the marker fair and square." Satoru has simple desires: new food or drink to sample. He enjoys large meals and boisterous company, and is much more eager to share his knowledge with anyone that can keep pace with his thirst and appetite. What Satoru offers information less concrete than many of the other brokers, it is nonetheless valuable: Satoru has various connections to the criminal elements of Aincrad. Talking with Satoru is less about finding a lead on something, and more about finding a lead on a lead.

SpinKick40. Floor 10. A very odd Player with an implacable reverence for Bruce Lee. He feels an immediate kinship with any player that has any ranks in Martial Arts, or has completed Break the Unbreakable. His favors are various, but always focus on martial arts. Sometimes, he will persistently question players about martial arts films, or request players to make repairs and renovations to his mountainside dojo (he goes through a fair number of striking dummies and targets). To players with any penchant for martial arts, he will challenge them to a friendly sparring match. Watch out-he's not a frontliner, but he's certainly not a pushover either. Players under the level cap will have a hard time beating him. Once the favors are completed (or the sparring is done), Spinkick40 will share map locations that feature strong enemies and good item drops. (He is on the hunt for a series of Demonic-grade martial arts weapons, "but most of these guys drop swords and axes, so I'm not really interested.")

Epilogue:

Spoiler

The treasurer reviews the information you've returned with. "Looks good. I'll submit the information for approval and we'll add it to the list. I'll authorize the stipend for your work. You should see that in a few days." She pauses, and then looks up. "That was a joke. No one here gets paid.”
