[EV-PP-F29] <<Fatal Error>> If not to-knight, then when?

Baldur and the rest of Jacob's Ladder were out on Floor 29, doing a patrol not far from the settlement. The floor had been a hub of activity, both good and bad, since it had been opened. The glass knights were everywhere trying to breach their defenses and get down into the lower floors where they could replicate and overwhelm the lower level of defense that others had been able to erect. Thankfully the stairs and the settlement were in the same place here, so they didn't have to try and defend two different locations.

"Mari, here, if we find one,  you'll need these"

The gaijin samurai opened up a trade with Mari and sent her 1x <<Teleport Crystal>>, 1x Medium Accuracy Snack (+2 Acc Food), 1x Medium Protein Snack (+2 Damage, -40 Mit)

Shortly after that, he heard the jingling of glass, and he would have missed it, but the lightning in the sky caused the mob to light up like a single peg in a lite brite board.

"I see one!"

Baldur called out to the others.

"Get your buffs ready! And watch out for any dupping they try to do!"

Baldur pulled out his Gungnir's shard and a bit of damage potion and drank them both down quickly, before drawing his sword and getting ready to engage.

"Remember, by the books. These things aren't hard if we keep them stunned and push hard!"

When was the last time he had a full night's rest, a meal he actually enjoyed - not just something for necessity. Was there a day in the past (few) month(s) where he hadn't trudged home, clothes still soaked from the never-ending storms of this horrific floor? 

Did he even remember the last time he showered? 

He could sleep when this was over, bathe, actually enjoy the few things in this world that brought him job. He was a frontline fighter, like the rest of his squad. They had a job to do, despite how much the winds battered them down. They'd see it done.

"I see one!"

Jomei's attention snapped to where Baldur was looking, pulling him out of that 'auto-pilot trance' he had when he was tired. Olive eyes scanned the dark horizon, before a streak of lightning flashing through the sky revealed their target. 

"Got it!" Jomei shouted back, as he unclipped the violin from his hip. Resting the instrument on his shoulder, he would place himself at the center of their group. "I'll keep it off your backs!"

The knights were slowly being dwindled to nothing, but they were still not out of the ball park yet.  There will be time to rest once this was all over.  At least, the hunter hoped so.  Though as the others were scattering to cover more ground, the hunter would group up with his guild.  He would keep them going better than what happened before.  Even more so now that they all mostly knew his secret.  He would keep them all from going down.

Following Baldur's orders, he would immediately prep his buffs.  There weren't much to them, but they were all he had.  He really needed to get in touch with some more people.  It seemed that certain places were producing less and less as time went on.

"Fly fast into the battle!  Let's not let it get any chances!"

Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire...except it wasn't fire - it was a cold - wet and dreary ass floor. The only reason Mari had willingly joined the fray so soon was the promise of clavicles. Okay, maybe two reasons, Clavicles and because she felt guilty for being locked away for so long. Even though she was in Jail.

Mari was following behind Baldur, Jomei -and someone she wasn't sure she recognized. Her new 2H spear leaning casually on her shoulder. She knew nothing of what was going on. 

"Remember?" Mari asked - then sighed. "I don't even know what's going on right now." She opened up her inventory. "I ain't got buffs - I got very little in terms of...anything really."

Still, Mari was willing to work together with these people - it'd be nice. It'd be really nice to be able to catch up with people, even in the throws of battle

Duping? Mari hoped she wasn't getting in over her head here. She took the buffs from Baldur. "Thanks, I'm gonna be rusty - hope ya understand!"

Baldur gave Mari a smile that was a little bit... weary? But also still somehow reassuring. The steel in his blue-gray eyes had softened since the last time she had seen him all that time ago. He seemed worn down a bit, but also like that had taken some of the sharp edges off.

"I know this is diving back into the fray, but if you're going to consider going into a boss fight, you need to fight something on the front first. No pressure. We can handle this thing, just try out your build and see if it does what you want it to do. We've got a good crew, trust in Jomei to tank, and Trust in Hirru to keep us alive." A bit of the old mischief danced across Baldur's eyes, "And stick it with the pointy end."

Baldur gave her a wink as he touched the tip of the spear, then teasingly licked the tip of his finger.

"Jomei, hit it with a stun. I'm gonna try and shatter it to get its MIT down. Hirru, you know what to do."

With the a nod to each in turn, Baldur charged the mob with a powerful kiai, the wind seemed to ripple around him like he was the center of a hurricane, and he lept off a small embankment and drove his katana down into the glass knight. Steel and glass shrieked together with an awful noise as Baldur chipped away at its translucent armor.

"Yeh..." Mari returned his tired smile with one of her own. There had been so much left unsaid between the two since their reunion back at the onsen. Mari felt bad; but unlike what Raidou had said - she was not on vacation. She wasn't living it up. Sure - she didn't exactly hate herself anymore but prison was still prison. It wasn't nice. "My joints might hurt a bit after this - didn't exactly have a lot of movement where I was." Mari wound up one arm as she rubbed her shoulder. "Still - as you said - its better to just get back into the fray of things sometimes."

Hey eyes shifted to the others in the group. "I'm glad...that you weren't alone throughout it all."

Baldur gave her a wink as he touched the tip of the spear, then teasingly licked the tip of his finger - Mari stared at him - mouth agape, what the - what the hell did he think he was doing?? Mari shook her head. Just friends. They were, and would always be just friends. And friends teased each other.

Everyone here had their role; and Mari's? Well - hers was probably the easiest of all. She was simply trying to dust off any sort of fighting prowess she once had. It was odd - Mari used to be one of the strongest, if not the strongest in Aincrad for quite some time but now she felt like she was trailing behind. Yet...somehow...that didn't make her feel bad. If anything, it felt like a lot of that pressure was gone.

Mari pulled out her weapon - an orange polearm dripping with black miasma and lunged toward the spectral knight - ducking low she jammed the tip into the underside of the knights jaw. Mari gave it a good jerk for measure before pulling her weapon free.

 

"Yanno, if you're gonna start licking things, its gonna be real hard to concentrate."

"Don't worry about it, and just keep its pointy bits away from me.  I'll do as much as I can, and more to keep you all safe."

The fully armored healer would call out as the fight would begin.  It was funny still that their guild tank was lightly armored and was more there to cause aggression and evade, like a dps would do.  While their healer had more armor and mitigation than all of them, but was obviously not the one they wanted to be hit.  Though that was how things had gone.  They were definitely an odd bunch, but that was alright.

"Baldur!  Here's for your energy consumption!  Keep busting it down!"

Three yellow rings would glow around the hunter's left arm before slowly fading one after another.  Each one would then form again around the arm of the resident gaijin that had burst forward before them.  He would need to keep both their health and energy levels as high as possible.  Though, that would not be the last thing he would do.

"Jomei!  After you stun it, I'm buffing you all!"

"Hm, guess we're just fighting to the sound of pattering rain then." the ginger chuckled, before quickly returning the violin to his hip. Holding the intricately crafted bow in front of him, a flick of the wrist to his side would force the weapon to elongate. "Alright, get ready!" Hopping down from his position, his boots would hit the mire and muck before he rushed at the almost fluid form of the mercury-like knight. He struggled to pick up speed, each step felt like the ground was trying to pull him beneath the surface, but he pushed on. 

The long blade of Vicious Mockery illuminated with a blue hue as he readied a sword art that would stop the Knight in its tracks. Just as he had experienced with knight previous, however, it was fast, and moved unlike anything he'd ever seen. Its body twisting and bending, yet still somehow keeping its shape as it parried Jomei's weapon. Tit for tat, Jomei and the Spectral Knight traded blows, and while some of the power behind his sword art slowly faded, he still managed to strike true. 

The entire body of the knight shuddered and rippled as Jomei's rapier plunged into its shoulder region. For a brief moment, it had stopped moving. "Now!"

An iridescent glow would envelop his shield while Jomei was taking care of the boss.  It was stunned for now, so he would not need to worry about healing for now.  He would do what was needed right now and make this as quick as possible.  There was no need to hesitate now.  If he did, then they..  No, he would not think of it.  Hirru would raise his shield high to where the art would initiate.  The glow would then disappear like the art before, and would transfer to the blades of his allies.  They now held the power to make this battle that much faster.

"Press the Attack has been initiated!  Run it through before it gets the chance to do anything funny!"

With that, he would step back and let them do their work.  It's what he had to do to keep everything running smoothly.  Though, things didn't always like to stay smooth, and he would have to adapt to when it does.  So why was it that he felt that he was forgetting something; something important.

Baldur was very proud of his team. They were doing exactly what they needed to do. It was good to have Mari back around, but he could still see that she had something she needed to get off of her shoulders. He hoped that a little friendly banter like they used to do with Mac and Cord back in the day would help, but it seemed only to confuse her. So he focused his eyes back on the creature trying to end their lives in front of them. It, too, would be frustrated.

Hirru buffed his energy regen, and then focused his attack damage buff. Baldur sheathed <<Zanshin>> while they others attack, and waited for his opportunity. When he placed his hand on <<Muramasa>> he felt the blade thrum with energy. It wanted this fight. It wanted to be used.

"Good work team, we're doing great!"

Baldur stepped forward and power surged around him, he activated his technique again, aiming to shatter more of the glass knight's armor while Jomei held it stunned for them, but as he drew <<Muramasa>> from its sheath, black and blood red flame roared to life around him and its inky darkness stained the air around him as he struck the mob, fire surging up around it and taking a chunk out of its health bar.

"Let's make it count! Hit it as hard as you can!"

It was taking a little bit for Mari to get her bearings again - but that was to be expected. With the Knight still stunned  Mari bought her weapon back up and across its torso in a large sweep. A red gash appeared in the knight. Thus far...it didn't seem too complicated. Were these the things Freyd warned her against? Mari knew they had the ability to duplicate themselves, but so far it seemed that the fight was going on without a hitch. Mari exhaled and took three large steps back - forming back in line by Jomei's side. She glanced over at him - they'd met a handful of times before ... Mari offered the man dressed in green a small smile.

"Uh, good to be back, I think."

Mari used this chance to slick her hair back and out of her face. This damn floor and the constant rain. She hated how everything. Absolutely everything here was wet. "So, come here often?" Mari joked.
