[BR-F29] Paving the Way to Floor 30 [Team 3: Jomei]

the severed coast was all that awaited them by the time belregor decided he was done with his orchestrations. night had halted right when arabelle did, and turned to look, finally, as she took off towards the boss. his cleave was interrupted, and all that remained in the distance was one jomei, anticipating his teammates, with a thumbs-up to show for his stand.

night could only breath, deciphering the events unfolding before her eyes. belregor's hand extended, and the ground rumbled between the distance arabelle had cleared and night had stalled during the time she'd been faltering. from the sands, the blade of the knight came through edge-first out the buried rubble, only tilted enough to let the grains fall from belregor's retrieval. night's gaze bounced between the blade and its owner, before she started to move.

kicking off the steel wall, an obstacle to her forward path, she jumped, reaching for the top of the blade to grasp onto, resolving her lost footing thereafter. when the blade turned in the recall to its master, she stumbled, bracing herself to shift towards the sword's grip, and struck true once she'd gotten close enough to belregor amidst its return.

[Plot Master 0]

The blade called forth from the sands was soon swept up in his hands. Belregor shifted his aerial stance, as the weapon in his hand morphed to take itself apart once more. Pieces of its edge tear away from the core of its metal, stretching, reaching with an impossible growth. Its owner, uncaring, lunged forth, diving against the sole defiant from its strike prior, wheeling its body mid-flight to angle itself feetfirst at the moment of impact. 

His landing throws sand, gravel and ash into the atmosphere. Belregor was cloaked in a thick, impenetrable cloud. Shapeless, only a shadow of his figure was visible from the outside, against the dying light.

From the side, it was his weapon that broke through the cloud, cutting through the fog in broken shreds, only tethered together by tendrils and sinew black, coiled through the center of its fragments. Like a chain, it extended right in serrated, horizontal segments down its link, tearing through a team of players, each incisor finding a host marked before they bended through reality and rip through their virtual forms. Out, it spun across the battlefield in a wide arc. 

No further victims were found. Again, the curtains fell for Belregor, tendrils of flame still rumbling through his armament, iris burning red, as his fingers wrapped around the grip of his sword, his blade reforging itself anew.

[Lessa 1]

She was ready for this to be over.

Casting another stern glance at both Jomei and Riker, Lessa hefted her enormous sword, then arched it through the air, sprinkling the gathered party in tiny gems of light. They lit the dark night, shimmering among the raindrops, as they splashed across the players. Yet another damage buff. The harder they hit, the sooner this would be over. And that was all that mattered to her.

A cold breeze whipped across the beach, chilling the soaked Lessa through. If the sand weren't already sopping, the wind likely would have kicked the sand up into their eyes. She supposed she'd found the one silver lining to the incessant rain. She drew in a deep breath, held it for a few seconds, then slowly exhaled, focusing on the way the air felt as it passed her lips. 

A bit longer. Just a bit longer. And then everyone could go home.

[Jomei 0]

While Jomei stood strong and showed no fear in the face of Belregor's party-wiping attack, he shrunk into himself as Lessa stepped into view. He feared her wrath more than any floor boss. But he could immediately see that it wasn't anger in her eyes, she was scared. Because he wanted to try and play the hero. He relished in the moment of their quick kiss as her cold, armored fingers pressed against the back of his neck.

"We're going to talk about this later."

Oh no, she is mad.

"Yes ma'am." Jomei would respond in a soft voice, nodding his head. Peeking at his health bar, which was already back at full thanks to some first aid from Lessa, he'd turn his gaze back to her with a small smile. "You know I'd never do anything like that if I wasn't sure I'd be fine." Taking a step past Lessa, he would reach down to scratch Riker under the chin, ruffle the fur on the top of his head a bit while he was at it. "Besides, like I always say, I've got the best support in Aincrad by my side." Turning to face Lessa, he would take a couple of steps backwards, "We're a force to be reckoned with, love." 

Bringing his fingers to slightly parted lips, he would let out a sharp whistle. Gliding over the rocky cliff and down above the steep dunes, the brown owl would screech in response as she shot through the sky past Jomei. Turning in his step, he would follow after Adare, rapier held to his side and at the ready. He had been on defense this entire fight, it was time to go on the offensive. The weapon clashed against Belregor's matching the onyx knight's speed. The two traded blows, back and forth, but in the end the ginger was unable to break through the boss' defenses. 

His onslaught did provide enough of a distraction for Adare to circle back around and dig her claws into the small crevice in the armor at Belregor's neck.

she dropped from the blade once she got close enough. belregor tore the sword from her grasp, and she rolled as she hit the ground. night immediately broke out into a sprint as she rounded the boss' trajectory; the knight crashed into the sands, and then tore through the crowd of players. not good. night held out an arm to buffet the winds from her vision. on the other hand, she'd been completely out of it's range, and so she took to the offensive while belregor had its back turned towards her. 

sliding down the fine grains scattered across the surface of the coast, night leapt early, calling forth oathkeeper before the apex of her jump. it was upon the sunder that it echoed out, bringing forth a light that pierced through the dark clouds gathered above, the beam that sliced into the back of the knight as she brought her blade down against it. belregor did not flinch; night didn't choose to stop either. once she hit the ground once more, she slid underneath his stance, rounding the field once more in preparation for another attack.

belregor descends.

arabelle, halfway to the sky, falls with him. she charges blindly into the dust cloud, disappearing from her team’s view, and belregor’s transformed chain sword winds around her. it misses… without her input. the system’s assist phases her through the interwound segments, as somewhere at the end of the line, jomei takes the attack and deflects it.

the black flame pays her comrades no heed. she can’t even name them in the thereafter. she bypasses the coil, furious, and reaches belregor the moment his form starts to shimmer back into visibility. around her, the frontlines’ quick attacks drop part of his veil. someone or multiple someones would have told her to wait — they’re still killing the shields.

but isn’t it about time? whose face is he wearing?

damocles rends the knight’s helmet in twain. arabelle suffers the blowback and the delusion that pure violence can close the gap between humans and god.

[Acanthus 0]

If anything could break Acanthus of her drive to fight, it would be this boss. The rhythm, once driving, slackened to a monotonous beat. Hit the boss, dodge the boss, boss hits Jomei. Hit the boss, dodge the boss, the boss attempts to annihilate the room. Belregor’s health shrunk slowly but steadily, while the Frontlines remained fresh and undaunted. Undaunted by Belregor, at least—Acanthus noticed Jomei shrinking from Lessa’s stern gaze. I guess that's what you do when you care about someone, right? 

Don't do this to me. Devastation clouded her face.

Acanthus forced the memory back down. He was a friend she barely knew, and he wasn't even gone. She recalled seeing his face again in the tavern, calm and neutral like a corpse at peace. Unbidden, her drunken question bobbed to the surface of her mind, and she was tempted to throw herself in front of Belregor’s blade just so she could forget. Instead, she continued to press her momentum, scoring another hit on the boss.

Wind lashed at his face. His hair whipped into his eyes, forcing him to squint. His breath caught, stolen by the raging storm.

Morningstar unequipped his coat, bothered by the constant flaring and tugging of the fabric. Flourishing his blade, he dove in towards Belregor.

The dark knight towered above him, a giant amongst regular sized people and Oscar. He was really tall. Morningstar didn't like how tall he was. Tall people made him uncomfortable. Beneath his visor, Belregor's red gaze burned. His armor, dark and jagged shifted with every move. Morningstar didn't like his armor either. It was weird.

He slipped past allies, weaving around sword swings until he was able to land a hit.

"beans you lookin mighty cute today. that's it."

Wow, his hit was very weak. It must have been the armor, which was very thick and hard to pierce. Morningstar should have probably hit him in a spot where there wasn't any armor, like perhaps between his shoulder plate and arm. Yes, maybe that would have been good. Next time.

[Plot Master 0]

A barrage of attacks ravaged the black knight. Flashes of lights in an array of colors swarmed around Belregor, Guardian of the Sword until his final health bar depleted. The bars vanished and yet the knight remained. A surge of new life surged throughout Belregor, a dark aura flared around the raid party restricting vision with the last thing to vanish bein the piercing red robs behind Belregor's helmet visor. The knight, cloaked in shadow, moved across the battlefield. The shattered sword vanished as another sword flew from the sea into his armored gauntlet. Three rapid strikes lashed out towards his three primary targets. The fiery knightess, whose insults lashed like razors, simply stood her ground as his blade struck armor, a recoil of damage surging through his form. The pink haired paladin, who he had failed too many times to strike, receives a powerful blow that seemed to pierce through the impenetrable defenses they carried with ease. Then there was that violinist. He was a fast one, and despite Belregor's best efforts, managed to evade his strike.

A wild roar, like that of a cornered predator echoed across the beachfront as Belregor leapt into the air, leaving his veil of darkness behind. The shadowed knight hovered in the air, ready to deliver yet another massive area wide strike, leaving only two options for his ferocious adversaries: Flee or Die.

Endless Eternal | Until the sword is returned to its pedestal, Belregor cannot be slain. Whenever Belregor would be slain, he will instead recover an unknown amount of hit points as his fleeting existence causes his bars to vanish and immediately use Veil of Treachery without needing to make a roll. This occurs each time he would be slain.
