[OP-F8] Hunting the upper floors (6/6)

Recommended Posts

The height factor added an extra thing to think about when the battles started. With the trees and bridge system, hits would be harder to make if people weren't paying attention. But, if Tyger could manipulate the mobs onto bridges, and then to the platforms built around the trees where everyone would be able to get a hit in. Without much more fuss, the group was on it's way. Icarus had scrambled his way up onto Tyger's shoulder, holding onto the plates at the back of her neck for safekeeping. The dragon had no wings, and therefor, no way to keep itself onto the bridge. Hopefully it wouldn't cause that much of an issue, but one could never be to cautious. She could hear the mobs under them swishing around in the muck below, but she didn't want to trek through that. Their speed would be slowed, and it would be harder to get away. As she walked with the group, she thought up of a few tactics she'd attempt to use, but once Baldur spoke to her, she was brought back to reality. She followed his point to a strange, wolfish creature jumping from tree to tree. It's claws gripped the bark, but she was sure those claws could be used for much more. They weren't just for show.

"On it. Here we go, guys."

There was a bridge to cross to get to the platform closest to the mob, and as soon as she made it halfway across the bridge, the creature opened it's mouth to reveal it's teeth with a loud, gurgling hiss.

"Nope. Over here, please."

Unsheathing her sword caught the mob's attention as she continued to run across the bridge, meeting it at the platform. It gurgled as a growl rose in it's throat, and Tyger slammed her sword onto her shield to create a noise loud enough to disturb it. With a resounding crack it was obvious that it was a substitute to the typical howl. It would do it's job well enough, though. She circled with the mob on the platform, waiting for Oikawa and the others to begin their assault.

"You're fighting me. Don't forget that, you overgrown rat."

Baldur had began walking and gestured for the group to follow. Oikawa hastily continued behind the two leading as he was the first attack after Tyger. Its my job to get the first hit in after Tyger gets the MoB's attention. I have to set the standard so to speak haha. No pressure. Right?

Letting his thoughts roam as they crossed the first bridge, Oikawa halted his train of thought to take in the sight before him. Trees thousands of feet tall, lined the swamp ridden plateau that was this floor. You could hear the sounds of the murk swamp water lapping against the base of the enormous trees they walked along. Small little wooden bridges connected each tree to one another. Small platforms that encompassed each tree served as the base footing for each tree. Otherwise, there would be nothing to walk on.

They hadn't been walking for long when Baldur shouted "Tyger you're up!". Taking a moment to realize what was going on, Oikawa was excited at the notion of fight against their first MoB. Tyger had ran about halfway across the bridge before activating her Howl affect. Not waiting for a cue, Oikawa ran right past Baldur, and jumped over Tyger as he drew his rapier.

Taking aim on the creature with an extremely elongated snout, Oikawa threw a series of jab thrusts at the creatures chest (Dealt 7 damage). Tap-ta-ta-ta-tap was all that was heard as he left a few red dots embedded in the beasts chest. Jumping backwards, back behind the safety of Tyger, Oikawa called out to the next attacker.

"Your move Crow!"

Crozeph saw the bridges and the height as he looked around him "I like climbing trees but these are way too high for someone like m..." Crozeph felt a gust of wind blow on him "and that, the wind is too strong up here" he said. Crozeph saw Oikawa do an attack on what seemed to be a mob from the forest, it even looks like it itself. As soon as he heard him say that it's his turn, Crozeph moved in and pointed his sword downward trying to execute his basic move "don't fall off Crozeph, don't fall off." Crozeph ducked as the Forest Stalker tried to hit him and failed miserably, Crozeph has been using his speed to it's fullest "my turn" he mumbled. Crozeph took a step forward still laying low and made an upward slash while spinning creating a circle like attack. Crozeph skidded as he soon as he finished attacking then stumbled down "too high, yes this is too high" he said taking a glimpse of his surroundings.

Ariel saw the Tyger execute a splendid mob luring technique by the use of her sword and shield. As soon as the sound started ringing, Kimba started roaring as well, apparently seeing as a invitation to join. Ariel immediately shushed her with a forefinger at her lips, but got ignored by the familiar. Next Oikawa dashed towards the first mob and started stabbing the mob in the chest using the same technique he displayed during the kobold field boss fight. Next was Crozeph "Crow" as Oikawa shouted, but this player seemed ...disturbed by the height, or at least that appeared so to Ariel. Neither less he landed a successful hit on the mob.

Now was her turn to shine, she looked for the mob's possible weak point. She decided to strike it above its mouth since she had a height advantage over it(<<Concentration>>). After that assertion that lasted a mere second for her to make she dashed towards the mob that was still chasing Tyger. As she drew closer she gained more momentum stretching her sprint skill to maximum heading into a collision course with it, with her second to final step she thrusted her black bladed rapier a little to the left of her desired spot, but still hit the damn thing. In the last moment she took a step to the right she made a step to the right barely avoiding it. She then showed a smile while signaling Raeyliff to join in.

[Raeyliff deals 2 basic damage + 1 Helsependel+1 Athletics = 4 damage points]

Raeyliff has been quiet for the past few moments, seeing new players enter and speak and all. He wanted to pay attention to what Baldur and everyone else would say before they would begin to fight. And now here he was, standing in a group of  6 players fighting this Forest Stalker. He grinned as he pulled out his battle-axe and raised it. "Oikawa, thanks for the battle-axe!" he said, before charging. He quickly wasted no time in swinging his battle-axe directly at it, giving it a nice cut on the arm before jumping back. "Ha...man that was scary...too high up, guys...too high up.." he said, before looking at Baldur. "Leader, your turn." he said, grinning.

Baldur watched as their first fight seemed to go off without a hitch. Several of the players managed to land some impressively powerful hits, and a few which almost seemed to miss hit instead. It was a beautiful thing, seeing everyone hit in perfect succession. The <<Forest Stalker>> seemed to stay fixated on Tyger, but couldn't get the chance to land a blow on her as rapid fire attacks from their party kept the bizarre creature reeling as red streaks appeared across its hide. Finally, when Raeyliff leaped forwards, his giant axe taking the creature in one of its legs Baldur knew it was his turn.

Stepping forward with his right foot and crouching down, his left hand on the saya and his right hand on the handle, he pushed the hilt forward with his thumb, unlocking the blade and revealing an inch of steel which glowed with the blue light of the system assist as his <<Charge>> skill powered up. As Raeyliff moved away from the boss, Baldur released the skill and he shot forward clearing the the ten feet in less then half a second as he drew the katana and slashed in a single motion, the azure light cutting a creset arc through the air and the <<Forest Stalker>>. Skidding to a halt on the wood of the platform Baldur quickly spun about, ready to defend himself from the mob if need be, just in time to see it shatter into a rainbow of polygons.

Letting out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, Baldur looked up and smiled at the others.

"Way to go! But don't let your guard down, there should be more than just this one on this platform."

Holding his katana in both hands, Baldur looked around. The wide wooden platform that surrounded the tree was probably forty feet from trunk to edge, but while there were ropes to keep you on the bridge, there was no such thing on the platform.

"Be careful standing near the edge. If we can, keep our backs to the tree and put the mobs on the outside." That last instruction was more to Tyger than the others since she would hopefully be holding aggro.

His blue eyes suddenly caught movement coming down from the tree above.

"Incoming!" Baldur called out as the mob leaped down and attacked Tyger, being that she was the closest to the tree, but just barely missed the ginger tank.

The creature was defeated in a joint effort by the team, and in a quick enough fashion that there was no reason for anybody to get hurt in the first place. With their combined damage, there was no reason they couldn't fly through some of the mobs in the area. And, by the sight of the loot that the first one dropped, this evening looked promising.

"Heh, if anyone falls, can I have your mats?"

It was meant as more of a joke, but seriously, she'd take them if anyone didn't need them *coughcough*. She glanced around at the rest of the team, smiling. It was one of those smiles that hid a few emotions behind them, like disappointment that she didn't get to slash a mob in half. But, hey, she chose the tank life. She knew what she was getting into. Especially when Baldur called out about the next mob that had jumped down. The mob was in sight before Baldur had yelled, so Tyger did her best to dodge, and succeeded.

"Backs against the tree!"

She commanded, glaring at the mob. The mob glanced at the others, until Tyger slammed the leonine head of her shield into the trunk of the tree with another resounding crack. The creature's eyes widened, and then narrowed in on Tyger. She circled with the boss, sword out, careful with her footing. It was currently in the middle of the platform, but she needed more space to get her own back against the tree. Using her sword and shield, she continued making the loud noises until she could squeeze her back against the bark with enough space to have her sword out in front with the snarling, drooling monster in front of her. She glanced around it. When she was satisfied there was enough space, she gave the nod to everyone else. Afterwards, she locked eyes with the mob, snarling.

"Get 'em! Let's go, guys! Quick as the first."

Man that first MoB was a piece of cake. I wonder if the rest of the floor will pan out similarly.  His victory thoughts were cut short as Baldur announced the arrival of another MoB. The <<Forest Stalker>> set its sights on our ginger tank and proceeded to take a swing. This was a fail, as Tyger evaded the blow and kept the attention of the beast with her Howl activating once again.

"Looks like I'm up" Oikawa shouted as dashed from the edge of the wooden platform to the middle. He zig-zagged back and forth until he was right upon the werewolf looking creature. Using his shield, he blocked a few claw swipes from the snarling beast. This opened up the Stalker to barrage of rapid quick thrusts from Oikawa's rapier (Dealt 7 damage). Several red dots appeared then disappeared, as Oikawa jumped back and called for a switch.

"Crozeph! Your on!" Lets get this one over with just as quickly folks!

Crozeph stood up as soon as he heard another one coming their way and seeing the girl who has been getting the attention of the mob, it seemed to be a good chance to deal some heavy damage on the Forest Stalker "don't want her efforts go to waste". Crozeph kept his feet apart, he must maintain his balance and "never look down" he said. Crozeph dashed towards the mob with his sword pointed down aiming for an upward slash and hopefully hit one of its vital part. Crozeph stopped a few feet away and spun around slashing at its face making it flinched let out a shriek as he wounded it from neck to its eye. Crozeph rolled backward to his party members and sat on the platform again, breathing rather fast at what he did "it'll take a while before I can get used to this height" he said.

Ariel was a little suspicious at the beginning, about fighting alongside new brothers in arms. But those worries were discarded as soon as the first mob was defeated. By result of excellent leadership shown by the couple, and magnificent swordsmanship displayed by the others, she knew she could now trust these people and go with them even after a floor boss. But that will be a matter that needed be left for future times, because as soon as they defeated the first mob. Her friend tyger, attracted another mob by using her elegant sword and shield to enforce the "Howl" skill, instead of just screaming like so many others with the same skill. With the new mob, the two in front of her yet again landed their hits successfully, slowly draining the opponent.

Now as it was her turn Ariel dashed towards the mob, brandishing her rapier and adopting a running position that had her weight center set lower for extra footing. Her target was clear, the place she missed last time, above the wolf-like figure's mouth. She followed the same steps as before, going on a frontal collision course with the mob. This move seemed to appear suicidal, but it was a move she practiced in this game from she gained the <<Athletics>> skill.

When she got within striking distance she thrusted her rapier with ahh she got, the blade hitting the desired spot perfectly. But that alone didn't cancel the momentum Ariel had, and it appeared that she would ram head-on with the mob. But in the last moment she made a leap like doing a wheel turn/roll, using her rapier as a semi suport she managed make a arc in the air landing perfectly behind the boar. She then made a lateral slash as if trying to remove the non existent blood from her weapon, and then turned around and nodded at Raeyliff smile smiling. It wasn't a smirk, more like she was happy that she executed that maneuver exactly as she wanted.

((Since Raeyliff didn't respond, I'm going to skip him))

The fight was going well, as several of them had managed to land critical hits. If Raeyliff could do so as well, he might not even have the chance to attack the creature. With that in mind, Baldur took a moment to survey the wooden platform they battled on. Some of the team had taken Tyger's instructions to keep the tree to their backs, but Baldur had remained at the foot of the bridge while everyone attacked and repositioned. This gave him an excellent view of the field, and he felt like he had a pretty good handle of the average aggro radius of the mobs.

It was because of this position, however, that he noticed another Forest Stalker climbing up the tree from under them.

"ADD INCOMING!" Baldur cried out, running over towards the others. "FROM BELOW!"

Ariel was behind the <<Forest Stalker #2>> after executing her lunge, which put her on the fringe of the group and towards the outside of the tree-platform. Baldur watched in apparent slow motion as the third stalker seemed to lurch over the edge from below and throw itself into the air towards Ariel.

Without seeming to pause, Baldur <<charged>> the new <<Forest Stalker #3>>, the azure streak of swordsman and blade seeming to fly across the space between he and Ariel. When Baldur's blade cut the stalker, there was almost a concussion blast of air and the beast was thrown to the side, slamming into <<Forest Stalker #2>>, and causing both of their attacks to miss.

Everything was going fine, aside from Tyger not having much room between the mob and she. The creature angrily snarled at her, but Baldur's voice was louder as he called out to the group about another addition to their little party romp. Another Stalker came into the mix, a few paces away from the platform. Gritting her teeth, Tyger turned to Oikawa, who was closest to the second Stalker.

"Oikawa! Finish this one off! I know you can do it!"

She knew the mob would attack her anyway, even if the mob was attacked by Oikawa. It would take a top critical to take the punch off, but even then, the Stalker looked as if it was going to die soon anyways.

"Be careful!"

She darted past Ariel in a charge, barely missing her as she slammed into the Stalker. Now, Tyger wasn't a loud tank. She didn't like screaming at the mob every time she wanted it's attention for a howl. Instead, she preferred a more subtle approach. But at the moment, with her freedom in fighting, she was clearly as deadly as she was defensive.

"Get away from my friends!"

Tyger's snarl was drowned out by the impact as she hit the mob, causing a deep cut into the creature's side. If they could finish it off quickly, and Oikawa his mob, then they'd have no problems with the newest Stalker hurting anyone now that she didn't have full aggro. It was strange, putting her trust in others. She'd been used to doing that with Baldur, but she was beginning to really see the potential in their crew. Fluid dripped from the cut she'd made. Perfect. Bleed damage would slow it down even more.

Things seemed to be going smoothly for the group. With Crozeph and Ariel's critical strikes landing on the beast, it was surprising to see the stalker still standing.  Though I've only known these guys for a short while, some even less than others, I feel like I can rely on them just the sa-

"ADD INCOMING"

Oikawa's train of thought was broken with Baldur's latest announcement. Spinning to see where, Oikawa was surprised to see Baldur Charging through the air to strike the newest stalker that was attempting a sneak attack on Ariel. Tyger then turned to face the blond and gave him instructions to finish off Stalker 2, before she charged at the new MoB herself.  Focusing on Stalker 2, Oikawa narrowed his eyes and leaped forward.

Rolling out of the way of a vicious claw swipe, Oikawa sprang forward as he traded more blows with the Stalker. Claw and metal clanged off one another as they went at it. Side-stepping the Stalker's lunge, Oikawa used his shield to parry the Stalkers arm back, exposing the chest and midsection of the creature. Lunging forward, Oikawa thrusted his rapier right at the creatures chest.

Piercing the creatures rugged chest, Oikawa watched as it exploded into pixels. The stalker left behind a loot orb. Grabbing the orb, he jogged over to Baldur so he could add it to their pool of mats and col. "Man these things just don't know when to quit eh?" Taking a defensive stance he waited for the others to make their moves against their latest threat.

Crozeph quickly moved in to the other stalker who appeared "I have really weird instincts" he thought. Crozeph jumped as the stalker tried to hit him but he dodged it with ease "not let's leave a painful..." before Crozeph could attack the stalker he saw the edge of the place and was distracted "move away" he said taking a step back. Crozeph then tried to slash at the stalker but missed as he loses his balance from the fear he just felt. Crozeph rolled past the stalker and buried his sword on the platform stopping from falling on the edge of it. He stood up and wiped the sweat off his brow "that was close" he said. Crozeph then raised his sword, ready to take incoming hits from it.

As Ariel landed from her stunt, she heard a loud noise behind her. When she half-turned around she saw a thin blue streak in the air behind Baldur slashing a mob, and then Tyger ramming into it with her shield, passing at a few millimeters of Ariel's side. Using the air wave created by the "ramming tank" that passed her, Ariel made a complete turn:

"Thanks, my heroes in shining armor.hehe" she said jokingly while watching the other 2 attack the mob and smiling.

Unfortunately the Crow missed and almost slipped off the platform. The group was more or less united, except for Crozeph who was barely holding to the edge, and before the mob could have a chance to attack him, Ariel started rushing towards it, aiming at its abdomen. She went for the same move as last time, rushed towards it with all her might, gaining momentum and thrusting her rapier as she got within striking range. With her aim true as always, she stabbed the mob on its right side then retracted the blade, sliding on the floor and passing him in his right. She stopped in front of the place Crozeph was dangling and turned towards the mob in a defensive. While she had her back at Crozeph, she shouted to make sure he heard her:

"Hurry up Crow, I'll cover you."

(( So sorry guys! Been busy with some stuff IRL, but I am back now. Sorry again!))

[9656 BD:3]

Raeyliff was almost becoming a spectator by now, and he didn't want that. His battle-axe started to feel heavy from lack of use, and after seeing that Ariel had had her turn, he decided it was better for him to take action now. He looked at Baldur "Wait up a bit, I'll attack it, then switch." he said, before looking directly at the stalker. There was no better way to describe it than with the word 'disgusting'. He charged at it and swung at it, but it quickly jumped out of the battle-axe's reach. Raeyliff, noticing that he hadn't made contact, quickly jumped back. He wasn't proud of himself, but at least he tried. He looked at Baldur and said. "Sorry man, switch." before looking over at it. He was no longer going to spectate or zone out during this fight, or any other one.

Baldur was pleased to see everyone responding just as they should for this sort of situation. Oikawa finished off the second stalker while Tyger transitioned to the third. Due to the hate level she provoked, the mob would have just attacked her instead of anyone else had Oikawa not finished it off. With his shield and gear the danger to him should have been low, which is why he had placed the rapier user after Tyger as a fall back thread generator.

And then the others transitioned to the third stalker, helping Baldur and Tyger peel the mob off of Ariel. As they team moved from the previous target to the new one, they were able to overwhelm it through main force, the flurry of blows chunking away large sections of health. When Raeyliff jumped in with that massive battle axe of his Baldur was certain it would be finished, however the creature managed to find the space to avoid the axe user.

From his position behind <<Forest Stalker #3>> where Ariel covered Crow, Baldur jumped into the space which Raeyliff had just evacuated and brought his Katana crashing down onto the mob's ugly snout like... thing, a kiai issuing forth from him as his foot stomped into the wood of the platform. The creature gave out a hissing sound and then froze for a moment as a sound which reminded him of shattering glass accompanied the shower of polygons reflecting the light which managed to make it through the heavy tree limbs above. Baldur whipped the sword to the side out of habit as if he were throwing off imaginary blood from the blade, and then sheathed the sword slowly and with an almost ceremonial reverence. When the click of the blade locking into the saya was heard, Baldur's face immediately split into a smile.

"Well done everyone! That was clockwork precision!" He clapped Raeyliff and Oikawa on the shoulder in celebration.

"And.." Baldur could be seen looking up into the corner of his eye, "It looks like even with an add, we're all at max HP." He gave a slight laugh, "That's incredible. Usually an add is one of the worst things that can happen to a party. I definitely think we've got what it takes to head into the dungeon. Let's take a quick look around the platform, I've heard a lot of times there can be chests hidden out there this far."

Tyger grappled with the hate of the rest of the team, but when she heard the shattering of the mob behind them, she grinned. Oikawa had done his part and finished off the mob, which was all she could really ask for at that point. Ariel was on point, as well as their whole team taking down the third Stalker. She assumed they traveled in packs, but even that wasn't about to stop them from obliterating the third. Baldur finished off the last Stalker, and Tyger let her shield arm relax, her bicep burning from holding it up so long.

.. We did it! Good job, guys. And not an HP point down."

It was remarkably impressive. Baldur mentioning of it sparked another smile, and she sheathed her sword, giving a cautious look around before celebrating with the rest of the team. On this platform, there were no mobs. But, it was safe to say if they continued further, they'd spawn quite a few more in the process of exploring. Taking a moment to stop and hunt for treasure seemed like the best idea, and it would give them time to rest. Honestly, they didn't really need it at this point in time, but the treasure hunt was part of the fun, right?

"That's a good idea! It looks like the next platform is clear, there might be something there, if we're lucky. Maybe these three bruisers were guarding it?"

It was a long shot, but hey, it could happen.

Crozeph lie flat on the platform as the other party members shatter the last of the Forest Stalker or that's what he thought "remind me to not go speed freak again, I don't want the feeling of falling off somewhere" he told them before letting out a sigh of relief. Crozeph also saw that everyone seem to be doing fine and no one's HP entered the yellow zone "we're almost an unstoppable team" he said. Crozeph stood up after a few seconds and kept himself away from the edges of the platform "it's funny how I got myself up here" he thought. Crozeph then opened his inventory and viewed his potions "only one, maybe next time" he mumbled before closing his menu.

Ariel was a little let down that they managed to finish the mobs so easily. But again she was used with fighting mobs 1 on 1, losing some hp in the process. Even if she tried to restrain a little her actions she still was reckless a couple of times, but managed to remain with full hp after their team finished 3 medium difficult mobs. She was amused to see Baldur cleaning the 'imaginary' blood from his katana then slowly sheathing it but remembered that she did almost the same thing once or twice... Looking at her familiar Ariel approached her while looking around to make sure there weren't any more mobs nearby. "Don't worry girl, I'm sure you'll get the chance to show what you can do, hang in a little more and help us search for any possible treasure." She then turned towards the rest: "I guess team fighting isn't bad once in awhile, maybe we can go after some more powerful opponents next time" she slowly started to reveal her true nature with a grin.
