The blue-haired swordsman appeared by their side a mere moments later, arriving just in time to have avoided a flurry of wild swipes from the massive bird. Fortunately enough, not a single one of the creature's talons managed to find its way to a relevant target, but instead massacred the empty air. Ziz looked flustered, flapping its wings all about and thrashing around carelessly, like a little child throwing a temper tantrum. Sadly, it would probably be difficult to find a corner big enough to send the beast to. "Back so soon?" Azide remarked, watching as Calrex entrenched his blade firmly into the ground. "Might wanna be careful there- there's nothing that would prevent a strong wind loosening your grip," he added, alluding to the scenario that Calrex was blown back, but not his weapon.

Again, he raised his dagger, taking aim at the flying creature as if each eye were the long barrel of a rifle. Tightening his grip, he tore through the current, the black-and-green knife bared proudly between his fingers. The length of Chemikaze assumed a blood-red glow as he launched himself into the air with a vaulting leap, sending feathers shooting every which way as he spun wildly against the underbelly of the airborne beast, leaving four long gashes by the end of it.

Falling back to the earth, Azide landed with a controlled tumble, before springing back to his feet. "Better get that sword out of the ground, Calrex. You're up!"

"You got it!"

Calrex quickly extracted the Grand Blade from the ground as he felt himself get a firm footing against the earth before rushing forward, activating once again his most powerful Sword Art <<Meteor Break>>. His sword lit alight with a crackling golden glow as he quickly closed the distance to Ziz, whom had decided to attempt to attack using its <<Feather Barrage>> technique.

Unfortunately the barrage of sharp feathers hit nothing, as all three of the players were all within close range, rendering it effectively useless. Calrex continued his advance and let the assisted system take over, slamming his elbow into the monstrous avian before unleashing a series of slashes, followed by another tackle maneuver before finishing with a fierce falling slash, landing back on the ground.

Being bombarded by the attacks Ziz decided that its current position was disadvantageous, deciding to reposition itself by flapping a short distance away before turning to face the three players.

Cursing under his breath Calrex looked over and gave a nod to both Azide and Rebekah, "It shouldn't take much more. Let's keep pushing and finish it off!"

As the girl watched both Calrex and Azide strike ziz. The girl knew that she was expecting it to re-positioning thus delaying their advances to finish the rest of this battle. Luckily, it did not fly too far away, thus she was able to spend her time to get back into striking range, but it expended enough of her energy just to arrive at this point. She looked around for Calrex and Azide, but they just have not recovered just yet. Perhaps it was since she still had a lot of energy by not being able to attack, and they both needed a bit extra time to recover. Whatever the case, the girl was relieved for the mini-break to help restore some of her energy, as she knew she was going to need every bit that she can to defeat the flying ziz. Perhaps it only moved positions when they a few consecutive attacks were landed. Whatever it was, the girl did not know the answer.

He watched as Calrex further weakened the proud beast with a mix of unarmed strikes combined with maneuvers of his sword, ending the spectacle with a heavy downward slash. Rebekah was well on the man's heels, running in right as the Art was played to its conclusion, arriving just in time to see Ziz beat its great wings with a mighty flap; once again, Ziz was just out of reach, managing to hold on by the thinnest hair.

Wasting no time, Azide rushed up to the forefront once again, where he kept himself low so as to maintain the more favorable position- at least until, the next opportunity to strike presented itself. "I know you're a lady of few words," began Azide, without lifting his eyes from the overgrown avian before them. "But you're even quieter than usual today." Once again, he reminded himself that the blonde-haired girl had not uttered a single sentence all day. "Everything alright?"

As Ziz moved out of position Calrex cursed under his breath as he began to pursue the creature. Azide and Rebekah were already far in front, back within the creature's striking range as it attempted to strike at them with its claws once again, merely hitting the earth as it gave a screech.

"Looks like they're hanging in there. Good..."

Arriving back alongside his teammates Calrex gave a calming breath as he prepared for the opening to strike.

Now that both of them had caught up to her, it was now up to her to attempt to strike once again. What Azide had said had was somewhat surprising, but it was true that even by her standards, she was quiet today. Rebekah was not really in the mood at the moment, as she had other things on her mind. She told him, "Let's just finish this monster first." The girl was waiting for a position to strike, but she knew that striking it would also dangerously drain all her energy, so her decision was to either reserve some, or strike with her hardest combination that she had. However, the winds was preventing her from getting anywhere near ziz.

Once again, it was within the realm of possibility that Ziz was to be stricken by his own hand- or rather, the dagger within its clutches. Managing to escape the creature's long and raking claws for yet another time, Azide began to wonder if the bird was capable of actually doing anything that didn't include slowing them down. From the looks of it, Rebekah had also managed to escape the futile strike by a healthy margin, as not a speck or scratch was to be found on her armor. Calrex, of course, had escaped by virtue of being out of range until after the attack's conclusion.

Azide adjusted his grip on the knife, nodding once when Rebekah voiced her first words of the day. "Fair enough," he answered, before taking flight, in a manner of speaking.

Shooting through the air like a dolphin out of water, Azide approached the creature at an angle, so as to zip by Ziz's left flank when all was said and done. The slate blade took on its usual crimson glow as the bird came within reach, and his spun through the air a total of four revolutions, running the knife through the beast an equivalent amount of times in the process.

He'd managed to successfully cross the great beast, only for the current of air to reverse his progress, until he stood shoulder to shoulder once more with his two companions. "I'm just about at limit in terms of energy. So, I leave the rest to you," he said, eyeing the others.

Calrex gave a nod as Azide assaulted the flying gigantic bird with what appeared to be his most powerful Sword Art. However, this also reduced his energy down to the bare minimum as the Ultramarine Knight gave a nod, "Shouldn't take many more hits to bring this thing down."

Rushing forward he activated <<Meteor Break>> once again as the Grand Blade became covered with the familiar sparkling golden aura as he unleashed the barrage of tackling maneuvers and sword strikes that made up the eleven-hit combo. As the attack came to its final strike Calrex came down with a powerful falling slash that brought the creature down to only a miniscule chink of HP remaining.

Looking over he gave a nod to Rebekah, "Alright, finish it off!"

"Well...let's hope that this finishes it."

It was time for her to finish the monster, but Rebekah knew that things were never this easy. Time and time again, she had been given the opportunity to finish the last hit, but had squandered every opportunity that had ever been thrown her way. For some reason, her ability to fight was a lot worse on teams than on an individual basis, which lead her to fight by herself more often than not. If there was ever a time for her to break that, it was now, but unfortunately, she missed, as ziz was able to dodge her strike. Perhaps she was not thinking fast enough to do much, but this was going to be a problem, as that was her opportunity to end it before any of them receives any damage. She knew that they were all low on energy at this point, which was a bigger problem than their perfectly in tact health bars.

It was of no importance whether or not a bird had knees- Ziz had been brought to them regardless, clinging to the last remaining slivers of its health bar. It no longer seemed to matter how many wings the colossal creature possessed; they'd all been clipped just the same. There was no grace in the desperate flailing of its talons, each careless strike looking as if it would've had trouble hitting the broadside of a barn, and failing to come within even a few meters of the gathered trio.

When the dust had settled, he saw that Ziz had not even made an attempt to retreat- had it perhaps resigned itself to its fate? In any case, Rebekah had missed her opportunity to bring the occasion to an end; with the three of them all in good standing, it would ultimately be a bigger blow to their patience than their safety.

With little energy left to work with, he held no illusions of vanquishing Ziz with his next maneuver, or even the next ten after that. He braced himself in the face of an oncoming wind, refusing to budge as the beast made every attempt to incapacitate him with every anguished flap of its massive wings. His eyes narrowed on the ailing avian, and he tightened his hold on the dagger in his hand as a sloppily aimed gust was thrown right over his head. It rustled his hair, but failed to have the same effect on the player himself.

In that moment of opportunity, Azide raced forward and shot through the air. Spinning once, his knife found the exposed underbelly of Ziz, leaving a trail of orange where the blade had struck. As his boots struck the ground, so too did Ziz. Falling somewhere between a shriek and a yelp, the once-proud creature gave a shrill cry as it fell from the skies.

Calrex gave a small smirk as he saw Azide successfully land yet another hit on the giant bird, even if it was a basic technique. Ever hit counted if they were going to bring the air monster down. Unfortunately, it seemed that the battle would be dragged on for a bit longer as Ziz decided to reposition itself after the brunette's strike, moving further away.

During the time before that the bluenette was knocked back by the winds once again, meaning that he was the only target for the creature's Feather Barrage as the flurry of quills shot at him. Quickly deflecting a few of the ones coming at him to the side Calrex dove out of the way of the rest, the gigantic feathers bombarding the area he was originally standing.

"Geezes it had to move again. Alright, let's get back into striking range and finish this thing off."

"I just hope it goes down after we do manage to knock its health bar to zero."

As all three of them were blown back once again, the girl knew that she had to reposition quickly to finish this battle. It had been dragging out for far too long and it was an annoying creature to attack. It's movements made it extremely hard for them to effectively track it down and destroy it without being pushed around by the winds caused by its strong wings. There must be an easier method, the girl thought but she also knew that the battle was almost over, just one more strike from any of them would easily seal its fate. But even that can take a while for it to happen. She did not know how much longer, but she hoped that the end was almost near. She turned around and saw the two of them slowly making their way towards her after the reposition.

Again, what would've been a decisive blow was missed, allowing Ziz to finally make a hasty retreat. In the face of all logic and expectation, the overgrown bird had somehow managed to shake off the shackles of its paralysis, and returned to the skies with a beat of its heavy wings. In the commotion, he was glad to see that Rebekah had not hesitated in pressing forward, and he followed suit with a brazen dash through the headwinds. Although his energy was too depleted to allow him to contribute offensively in any significant capacity, he couldn't stand that thought of sitting idly in the back while his party mates finished up.

As he broke through the field of unseen currents, he returned his position to that one presenting as little surface area to the rushing air as he could manage. Though he was well aware that Ziz would not fall to his own blade, he wished to prove that he was at least still just as capable of actually hitting his target. Whether the damage he dealt was one or one hundred, his pride would welcome each and every hit just the same; having shaved off nearly half of the beast's total health points, anything more was simply gilding the lily.

"Alright guys," said Azide, as he bared his dagger before him. "Let's get this wrapped up before the thing takes off again. As much as I can appreciate a good workout, I'd rather it be done somewhere outside the equivalent of a wind tunnel."

Unfortunately, right as the three fighters made it back into striking range of Ziz the oversized, multi-winged bird decided to reposition again as it unleashed yet another barrage of feathers. Unfortunately, the attack was completely out of range of the players as the bird let out a powerful screech.

Right as Calrex made it back to Azide and Rebekah's side he gave a small sigh as he watched the creature move further away, "This thing really is behaving like it's on its last legs. Alright, let's get back in range and take it out...at least if it doesn't decide to move again."

Just as the moment that the three of them had caught up to the near dead monster, they were all forced to reposition once again, as the flying monster had flown far away from them. This was annoying, but the girl did not mind, as it meant that she was now regaining her energy, which was the good news. Rebekah was the first person to get to the new location, as she turned behind her, the two guys were lagging a bit behind. This was somewhat to be expected as she had the most rest waiting for them to rejoin the group before setting out once again. This was combined with the fact that she did not wear much armour, which made her quite mobile. She shouted to them, "Hurry up before it flies away again."

  • 2 weeks later...

Just as he prepared himself to strike, the beast did the unthinkable. He gritted his teeth together as Ziz repositioned itself yet again, leaving them with the unenviable task of scrambling after it once more. If anything, at least his energy had inched up another sliver- albeit it had failed to enter more viable territory. At this point, chasing after the creature was something of a formality, more than anything else. Even still, he shifted his grip on the dagger at hand before cutting through the now-waning headwinds.

By now, all he could wish for was for this business to wrap up shortly. Surely Ziz could not keep flying forever? After all, Aincrad was only so big- though even then, he did not wish to chase the massive bird across the entirety of the third floor...

Calrex gave a calming breath as he continued to follow behind his teammates, aiming to catch up to the gigantic field creature. Unfortunately, right as he had managed to reach the group Ziz decided to reposition itself once again. It seemed the creature knew it was on its last lags, and was doing whatever it could to stave off the inevitable.

Flying a decent distance away once again the gigantic eagle gave a screech as it flapped its wings forward, sending yet another barrage of sharp feathers towards the group. Fortunately only the bluenette was in striking range, and with his high Evasion he was able to outmaneuver the incoming assault.

"Darn it, this is getting us nowhere. We've got to get back into striking range and finish this as quickly as possible."

Once again, the Ziz had re-positioned, away from the three of them, meaning that they could not get off the killing strike. Neither of them were close enough to do anything, and this meant the long trek to its new location. As usual, the girl would be the first to arrive, seeing that she was more willing to get there first. As she waited to strike, she wondered if they would ever kill it, as it was now wasting their time by continually moving so that it could not be killed. However, she knew deep down that sooner or later, it would want to stop running and attack them instead, as what fun was running away. It was none, but unless it was looking to avoid death at this moment, then that was what it was going to do.

To say that this was getting old would be something of an understatement; he had actually been out of combat long enough for his energy bar to recover in full- something of a consolation prize for his perseverance, considering how late in the battle that it had come. If he'd only had the energy for it just a few minutes ago, he could have ended it all right then and there. He shook his head before taking off just as Ziz resettled itself in the distance for yet another time.

If his teammates were to fail in their following attacks, he could at least take comfort in the knowledge that he himself now held the ability to land the finishing blow. If one thing was for sure, it was that he could strike jogging from today's to-do list. If he were to ever chase after a bird ever again, it would be too soon.

As Calrex saw his two teammates make it back into striking range he gave a smirk as he looked up at the gigantic multi-winged eagle. What was originally a terrifying sight to behold was quickly reduced to a mere shadow of itself. However, it seemed the creature's AI had changed strategy, as if it were giving one last shot to try and survive.

Persisting its location Ziz used its Talon Strike once again to try and attack the two players in range with its claws. However, both Azide and Rebekah were more than fast enough to avoid the strikes as the oversized talons slammed into the ground around them.

"Alright guys this is our shot! Let's finish it off!"
