  1. Reytac did freeze up at that from Mari, his eyes going wide as he looked over towards her. The woman was in the middle of gathering up the loot items from the wave of ants that had attacked her, and her motions outside of her attacks seemed, to him, sluggish compared to her norm. Not just with her injured arm, but with the other as well she seemed to be moving slower, more deliberately. Or, to him, with more exhaustion. So she was tired and, hopefully, not explaining things fully. No other names had been added to the monument with hers next to them, so he knew she hadn’t gone out and hurt some
  2. Reytac paused when he heard Mari respond to him, the irritation in her voice that threatened to choke her words. He could have gotten upset with her over her aggression, but – she outright apologized for it, and he knew that she wasn’t in the best of places recently. Whatever had happened that had burnt her arm, she was living in a low level of pain every day until that managed to heal. He stared at her from the corner of his eye for a moment before shaking his head. Her bladework was still as brutally efficient as ever, demolishing a batch of the scout ants before they even had a chance
  3. Reytac nodded as he walked up next to Mari, his eyes already flicking around the area around them. He knew that Mari was pretty businesslike and would want to get going as soon as possible – and if both of them were needing materials as badly as it seemed, then he wanted to start as well. He glanced over as she fidgeted, reaching up towards her injured arm again, then frowned. She was a skilled alchemist so if he offered one of his crappy health potions to try helping that injury out, he would deserve the ribbing or ridicule he would most likely get. Instead as the two of them started walking

  7. Reytac hummed before he nodded his head in agreement. He could see walking around in shoes like that being difficult as hell, even if they did accentuate her calves nicely. She had to be right, though, it was the only reason he could think of, some kind of special consideration put in place to keep this ‘tutorial’ quest from dragging on forever. The real meat of this profession wasn’t finding the items after all, it was identifying them. ”Yeah that’s most likely the case. And I’d definitely suggest finding like, a good pair of comfortable boots. This world doesn’t exactly have sneakers f
  8. Reytac exhaled softly, staring at the message again to make sure that it was real, and he wasn’t hallucinating. He sucked in a deep breath, and nodded. It was real, his guild was descending on -, or, ascending on, the thirtieth floor, to explore it and learn more about what was the new front line. The closest he had been so far was, admittedly, the unhinged, disturbing twenty ninth floor, but that particular experience was one he tried not to think about if he could help it, aside from his newfound friendship with Teion. This, then, would be his chance to actually meet more of his actu
  9. After making sure that Sinnamon was steady on her feet, Reytac joined her in looking around the area and narrowed his eyes in frustration. It was definitely more heavily populated with items than when he had come through here last, to find items for being a Forager or even when he had done the quest for First Lessons. He reached up and pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled forcefully before giving a light shrug and walking over towards a different item and picked it up. This one was one of the ones that was more like a pane, a large flat chunk. It could either, maybe, be a shield, or a ch
  10. Reytac stopped abruptly, barely keeping himself from running into Sinnamon when she fell over, and his hand was now outstretched towards where she had been - the fall had been sudden and abrupt enough that even though he'd tried to grab onto one of her biceps to keep her from hitting the ground, he hadn't managed to make it in time. His eyes flicked over her quickly, perfunctorily, making sure she wasn't injured before he actually looked towards what she was holding up. It was - yep. That was definitely one of the unidentified, nebulous items that could be defined, refined into something that
  11. Reytac walked behind Sinnamon as she walked away from the counter. From how she'd been acting before, and the relief on her face when he had offered to take care of talking with the NPC, he knew that the brash, loud attitude just now was a front. He waited until they were outside of the shop and heading towards the town gates to quietly pull a canteen out of his inventory and hand it over to her. "Take a moment, here's some water if you need to collect yourself." He pulled out a second one and spun the lid open with a thumb and took a long drink himself before he put it away. Left unsaid was t
  12. Reytac blinked once, then twice, as the young woman ranted in front of him. He hadn’t yet seen the NPC in question, but it seemed like she had – and had already formed her opinion of him. Now, that might also be because she’d had to deal with him in some way in the past, but it also felt a bit more.. Personal. He hummed under his breath as he rubbed his chin in thought. It sounded like she’d had to deal with people whom this NPC resembled, and had strong opinions about them. And judging based off her appearance, well, he wasn’t surprised that she was approached by sleazy types in the past. He
  13. Reytac was not going to go through dropping another forty or more Unidentified items on poor Hirru, even if his guild mate hadn’t minded. He doubted he would ever be as skilled at it as the man was, but if he had to run through and just do a poor job of identifying things himself, he would. He could go to Hirru for more specific appraisals, or of better quality things – but bulk bs.. He needed to be able to handle that himself. Which meant that he had to do something that he initially hadn’t ever really intended to do – he had to branch out, ad taken on a second profession. Thankfully, the App
  14. Reytac watched, his head turning as the ‘werewolf’ circled around him, a bright grin left unseen on his face. This was probably the best part of his costume – the fact that, even better than a mask, people couldn’t see his facial expression as he smile widely at the various costumes and decorations that he had been seeing. The woman’s costume was a good one, and he honestly couldn’t tell if her stance had been adjusted to be more animalistic, or if she was doing that herself to fit the appearance she was working with. Either way, it was phenomenal. ”It is, yes! I sadly couldn’t get a mount
  15. Reytac had been listening to the two women talk, and he took a deep breath. It was clear both had – gone through loss. Hardships, things that had worn them down, as they were both reserved and hurting. They hadn’t known each other before, but it was clear that there was a level of – camaraderie that was born of shared suffering, a kinship that made him an unintended outcast. He’d have to agree though, at least somewhat – he didn’t think riding as one of the Four horsemen would be something that could be fun in the first place – necessary, perhaps, but fun, to be one of the harbingers of death?
  16. Reytac watched as Cascade got herself back under control, her shoulders shaking as she marshaled herself and stood back up. He rose up next to her, and shook his head slightly. ”Nothing to be worried about. They're a dime a dozen from a normal vendor, I've got about six spare still Miss Cascade.” He didn’t need the young woman worrying about trying to repay him or anything silly like that. Offering support to someone who was struggling was just – to him, the right thing to do. ”The only thing I’d ask, Miss Cascade, is that when we finish this quest, you take some time to recover yourself.
  17. Reytac had watched, quietly, as Teion poured out the last glass of whiskey, letting the amber liquid splash to the ground. Remorse had stolen over the purple-haired woman, and he could see in her features that she was locked up in some memories as she murmured softly to herself. He let her take a quiet moment to grieve, then nodded and stood up with her when she reminded him that the creepy, abandoned bar in the town where trusting their senses didn’t seem to work was probably not a great idea. ”I’d honestly forgotten that this wasn’t a safe zone..” The reminder had made him tense up, and
  18. After they had ascertained that Reytac was not any kind of threat, the two skeletal dragons had continued ignoring him, even as he walked in front of them and looked around. He thought he spotted a familiar black-plated figure ahead of him, but he wasn’t sure just yet – and they were talking with another figure, so he wasn’t going to shout out and interject into another conversation. But when the armored figure turned around, he saw Nari’s hair and face, and he smiled slightly and gave her a wave as she called out to him. A Garden? ”Hello to you as well Miss Nari, nice seeing a friendl
  19. Reytac was bemused by the brash and confident young lady who was now avoiding eye contact with him – he could see in the way when she’d been turned towards him, her eyes immediately shot past him to somewhere else, looking for anything that could be snagged and used. He remembered how frustrating this mission had been for him – and how he’d just given up on actually finding multiple materials and just gone with the one after his attempts and failures counted. Reminiscing a little, he glanced down and saw a large chunk of ore-bearing rock, and hauled it up, smiling when he saw that it had a hef
  20. "Ah, yeah, it'd make sense that you wouldn't get a lot of seafood down on the first floor. Hmm, if that's the case I'll have to pick up a spear or something - I don't really trust myself with a fishing rod." Reytac let out a laugh at that idea - sitting around waiting for fish to bite was something that he had hated having to do as a kid, ever since a disastrous fishing trip where all the fish had been dead on the shore around him and his family. The stench that day had been unbearable, but his grandfather had been so insistent that they stay for hours, trying uselessly. He shook his head as
  21. "Easy there, easy. Nothing to apologize for. Focus on your breathing, and on what you can feel. I won't ask what triggered a panic attack, but you're okay now. You're okay. Deep even breathes, Miss Cascade. If you can, breathe in while counting to seven, hold the breath for four, then breathe out for another seven." Reytac gave her one last squeeze around her shoulders before letting his arm drop from her, his attention going to his inventory as he pulled the menu up. He was once again grateful for his over-preparation, as he pulled out a cloth and a canteen full of water. The movement o
  22. Reytac stepped off of the teleport pad and moved to the side right away, blinking as he looked around. At first glance, the place was kind of similar to the first floor and the town of Beginnings – cozy settlement, surrounded by farmland. But as he looked further out, he wanted to bury his face in a palm. Once again, the floor was a forest floor, though this one also had the benefit of having mountains far off in the distance. ”That’s it. I’m making my home on the seventh floor just so I have scenery that isn’t just more trees.” He kept his mumbled frustration quiet, out of earshot of the npcs
  23. At first, Reytac was distracted with the bird that was still nestled against his chest and trying to peck at the buckle on his shoulder. In fact, he walked right past Cascade as her bird flew from her shoulder - it was its caw, and his bird freezing up, that made him stop, and turn around as the cries turned frantic behind him. His eyes shot open wide when he sat that the girl he had just met was collapsed to her knees, her hands clutching at her head. He could see her nails were digging into the sides of her scalp, and red was welling up around where they were buried. Cascade's lips moved
  24. ”I can understand that, so very well. Life is scary. I’m terrified myself – that when I get out, that she won’t be there. That I’ll be alone, that all of my effort will be for nothing.” Reytac wiped his face as he turned on his stool so he could lean with his back against the bar stool, giving Teion some level of privacy as she got herself back together. His hand was still on his chest, pressure from the outside helping with the pressure inside. The stool creaked beneath him as he tilted his head back to stare up at the ceiling, that damn light bulb shining harshly above them. ”But – I thin
  25. "Well, if nothing else, we have to take her back the leftover Familiar food and her bowls. No, that isn't food." The last part of Reytac's statement was directed to his new companion, who had started insistently pecking at one of the buckles on his shoulder, the raven's head turned to the side so it could reach without moving. It chirped almost dismissively at him and went back to trying to get the metal buckle, which led to Rey clamping one hand around its beak to hold it at bay as it puffed up. "But, at least we know about it this time and won't think it's something to do with one of u
