  5. Mari knew she was always strong, but that was in the past...where nothing but insanity and the need to not be murdered fueled her forward. When she had nothing going for her except to clear the floors as quickly as possible in a vain attempt to somehow recover those lost. Then, it all fell apart. No..She fell apart. Hid away from the world - barely doing anything but surviving till the next day. No quests, no gallant fights on the frontlines. Just hidden away from the world... Then she came back. She ran into Baldur, Shield...Oikawa...and others, all who for some reason or another had fai
  6. "I tried to do quests at first." Mari admitted. "I wanted to get back home to my daughter." Mari didn't need to elaborate on what transpired after, they both knew. "After everything - they seemed pointless, aside from a few useful items the Cerberus etching, hellstorm potions..matriarch stingers... A part of me wanted to do them all - but then I wanted to just burn, ahh..." Mari paused, side stepping a large rock. "Figuratively and literally, have it all come crashing down, but I don't feel that way anymore. Now I'm just...tired." Lancaster asked if this was normal and Mari pursed her
  7. Mari sighed. "Is that so..." She began, her tone turning cold. She was done trying to placate the child, especially since he seemed to continually lie to her. Just moments ago he was boasting about being an adult, knowing what he could do. Yet now? He was doing a complete 180. Stating that he barely stepped foot out of the first floor. "Funny... that.... you've been cooped up on the first floor for Soo long" It had been a hot minute since Mari lost her temper like this. She had been doing such a good job too. But his constant backtracking bothered her. It reminded her of Chaser. It remin
  8. The sun was finally cresting over the horizon now - predawn became dawn. The sky bathed in one of her favourite colours, the golden ambers of twilight. She loved that colour. Mari paused in her onslaught of the local pests to watch the sun slowly rise, till its rays hit her eyes and she had to shift her gaze away. Lancaster was probably still asleep. He'd gone through quite the ordeal recently, Mari wanted to give him as much rest as possible, although she felt guilty for leaving the bed before he woke. "All for our dream...." Mari muttered to herself quietly as another pack of wolves cha
  9. Another wave of chattering and clattering skeletons, they were coming at her faster now, wave after wave more aggressive - it seemed the closer she got to the river the more mobs came. Mari knew why. She had seen the phenomenon before. Once or twice a month waves of monsters would pull themselves up and out of the river. She wasn't entirely sure why, be it to replenish the floors population of ghuals, zombies and skeletons, some sort of hidden quest she'd yet to discover - or perhaps the most likely, it just was. Much like half the stuff in the game, there was no rhyme or reason to it - it jus

  12. Mari stilled. Placating someone? Placating someone? By trapping them on the 10th floor and watching them slowly go insane? Mari groaned as she brushed her fringe out of her face. That...was not a thought she should ever entertain. Ever. That was akin to torture. Similar to her being thrown in a dark cell, but amped up to a thousand. Mari wondered if anyone currently alive in Aincrad deserved such a fate but none came to mind. Maybe this is what her brother meant when he said he was worried about her slipping. Was...Mari problematic? A bad person? She resolutely shook her head. No. Fu
  13. With a blink Mari's eyes flashed a soft green hue; her Night Vision in full effect. She shuffled in closer to Lancaster, wrapping an arm around his waist, staying close to him. The two hadn't really rested - opting to go on a series of quests in some form of a 'honeymoon' rather than retire for days. It just wasn't in their nature to rest. Or maybe...they couldn't. Both so wound up from prior events - both still unable to fully sleep without the fear of losing each other. The two had already tried to brute force open the door, singed outlines of where the both of them had thrown all thei
  14. More shambling skeletons would descend upon Mari and they, much like their predecessors ended up naught but dust and fractals. Mari would twist and turn the glimmering scale in her hand. This...really was easier - granted she had to eat years old candy but...this still felt far more easier than fishing for hours on end. Not that Mari had anything against the activity, rather she enjoyed it immensely, but it just wasn't as fruitful as this was when it came to the rarer materials. Mari would pocket that too then turn to glance over the horizon. This place was as deadly as it was beautiful. There
  15. The area around her tent was void of any activity - player or undead alike. Mari supposed she had Atan to thank for that, as dangerous as he was - to the point where her brother virtually forbade her from making contact with him. Despite that, his concoction proved incredibly useful and effective. Almost too effective. Mari had to walk a good half hour from her tent before she ran into the first group of skeletons - their beady red eyes glowing brightly in the dimly lit caverns. It meant little to her. Mari was used to this by now. Her arm moved almost without thought, the typical sword a
  16. Floor 10 - a bioluminescent cavern she kept swearing away from but somehow always made her way back to.... The dusty treat was quickly swallowed, its not like food actually expired here, right? Probably...Mari felt fine enough at least. Then down went the potion Raidou had crafted her. Good. Everything felt better now. Mari stretched her back. This floor was one she was oh so intimately familiar with. She knew it inside and out, she knew where the nefarious players would congregate for their hidden meetings - and knew well enough to keep away. Not her clowns, not her circus. She knew th

  18. Mari didn't regret it though. She didn't regret helping Corvo. Mari...in a weird kind of way, actually liked the idea of being relegated as his sugar mama. All jokes aside it was nice to just hang out with him. He was brash, rude, callous...prideful and selfish. But in a weird way they were all traits she liked about him. Then again...she was engaged to Lancaster - so maybe she had a type. What did her brother say? Something about being attracted to dangerous situations and to danger? "Hah..." Mari laughed softly, her breath turning to steam in the early morning. It wasn't wrong. Most wo

Gold and black inlaid with diamonds that form a razor-sharp edge, it permeates an aura of unquestionable authority.
  21. long lonely howls echoed around the frigid wasteland as another pack of wolves quickly replaced the first one; angry snarling maws snapping at the woman in vengeance for their fallen brethren but it was all for naught. For nothing more than a simple swing from the powerful woman would rip the entire squadron asunder. Their yelps barely tugging at her heart as they dissipated into red fractals. Howling continued in the distance as Mari paused to pick up the current loot - the custom skill Oscar had given her a succor in the trying times, desperately needing col to fuel expenses that far outweig
  22. her footsteps crunched in the snow as she stepped down from her little porch - passing a single frog slipper, frozen to the snow. Then to the trees, a hand rested on one which was marred with deep gashes. Signs of frustration...Funny that....Mari had taken so much of her anger and frustration on these trees over the years - her most recent plight was now sleeping soundly in a bed on her second floor. "Funny that..." Mari muttered as her fingers traced the bark. It felt like it all happened so long ago, but it had only been a few months. If Mari had a chance to reflect more, she would have
  23. After a hectic few days....there was still a lot to clean up in her house. Raidou had fixed the front door, and managed to sweep and clean some of the debris...but it still left a lot to be desired. There was also the issue of outside. Mari's house was not within a safe zone, and every so often packs of ice wolves would roam. So with a heavy sigh Mari shoved a beanie over her hair, tucking in errant strands behind her ear. She forgo her usual tattered scarf and replaced it with another, white and woolen - so she would perhaps blend in a little better with the snow. She wore thick fur boot
