  1. Kalu was pretty surprised about Tsu’s tongue. He didn’t want to be rude asking about it, so he just decided to accept it. It was a fact; trying to change it or understand it could cause some issues. To Kalu, he was trying to pin the correct adjective for her trait. It’s not weird. It’s unique. Like a special trait given to one in a billion people.

However, as Kalu was lost in thought the beach ball flew past him. The incoming wave was pushing it even closer to the shore. Kalu felt like a little kid running after some sort of animal, trying to have fun with it again. Crouching down to pick the beachball up, he smiled a small bit as he tossed the beach ball back to Tsu. ”This may not be an ordinary day for me, but I’m sure this is an ordinary activity for a lot of people in the world. I’d like this to be an ordinary day for me too.”

  2. Kalu caught the beach ball. Well, she gave me this for a reason. Kalu inspected the ball for a second, almost as if he was looking for a certain message or instruction. After finding out it was foolish of him to think there was an instruction on the ball, he tossed it back to Tsu. ”Well, today is certainly different. Coming from a mountain village, I've gotten the chance to see a ton of new, beautiful sceneries. I can definitely say this is definitely one of them.”

To Kalu, Tsu looked like she was in her natural element. Wait… Did she say similarities between herself and frogs? Might that explain the ribbits? I thought it was just a weird quirk of hers. Like how some people repeat an action like a ritual. Kalu couldn't help but chuckle just a small bit. It was amazing the people this virtual world had trapped inside. ”Yeah, definitely not an ordinary day for me. I can say that for sure.”

  3. Kalu outstretched his hand to perform the handshake but faltered for a short bit. Hesitating. Activities? Kalu shook Tsu’s hand. ”Sorry was just taken aback by what you said. I don't really know how to do much other than find food, play the guitar, and do schoolwork. SAO is my first activity aside from the three and I just wanted to surprise-” Kalu paused for a second. Well, at least one of us got surprised. “Someone.”

Kalu had taken some swimming lessons at school due to a physical activity component of the curriculum so being submerged in water wasn't entirely a first-time experience. ”Believe it or not, I've never seen a beach before. Kalu was simply wading in the water and taking in the scenery. Bringing himself back to the virtual reality, Kalu turned towards Tsu. ”As you probably already know, my tag is Paglikha. Feel free to call me Kaluluwa or Kalu. It's a pleasure to meet you.”

  4. Kalu couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit like an instinctive response. It was hilarious, how Embers was assuming that Kalu couldn’t find anyone. He felt amused, entertained, not quite so happy. After he calmed down from this fit, he continued to stare at the glass.

”Sorry, what you said wasn’t supposed to be funny. I realize that. It’s just that I wasn’t looking for anyone. I can’t see myself being in any meaningful relationship, friendship or otherwise, with anyone else.” Kalu picked up the mask and put it on for a short while before setting it back on the counter. ”I played around with two people outside of the party. I didn’t know what their names were, wearing this suit and a comedic mask, I acted as if I was excited for the party. When I entered, well… I’ll save you the pain.”

Kalu took a short sip at the glass of wine and swirled it around. ”Let us enjoy this evening though, shall we? To future prosperity and possibly even the chance of finding someone who can tolerate our existences! Cheers!” Kalu raised the glass up high and smiled. Who says I can’t still play the part.

  5. Kalu was performing his usual, everyday routine. Wake up, have some stale bread and funny-tasting water, and show his respects to Axios. He didn’t know when Axios died, but in a way he felt as if he lost a brother. In a way, he acknowledged that he was just trying to ignore the pain that he felt when he lost one of his companions. In the same way, he felt nothing. Almost as if he was in a perpetual state of shock and denial.

Mid-way between Kalu’s ambiguous prayers to an even more ambiguous higher power (although he knew these would fall on deaf ears), a message popped up in front of him. He didn’t recognize the name. It was from a player named Froppy requesting his company on the Sixteenth Floor and, possibly, cheer him up from his current state.

Kalu reasoned that he had nothing much better to do in the first place, seeing as how he was currently lacking any inspiration to make music. In a way, he felt anxious. He didn’t know who this new person was in the first place, although he believed that she must have joined the guild a bit ago. After grabbing a pair of swimming trunks from the open-air market on the First Floor and some spare clothes, he traveled to the floor portal and selected Floor Sixteen.

The atmosphere of the place reminded Kalu of the Philippines. At least the ashen part. He had never seen the ocean and to see such a mass of water, it created a small spark in him. So this is what it looks like in “person”. Kalu then left the main settlement and set out towards the place this Froppy had instructed him to meet at.

When Kalu arrived at the beach, he saw who he assumed to be Froppy sleeping. “Hey, you called for me?”

  6. ”Emotions make people humans?” Kalu felt more lost than ever. He was sure he was born by his mother and father. They were far from the accepted concept of humane, but he wouldn’t go so far to call them monsters regardless of how certain events haunts his dreams whenever he sleeps.

”Well, I am afraid to say that I am not human.” Kalu took a couple of sips from his drink. Fruity. ”After all, I pretty much cowered in fear as people risked their lives. Waking up each day, doing the same routine. I’m a robot. Everyday I wake up, go to school, go to the rooftop and wonder if I should jump off, people come and I make it look as if I was just taking in the view, go back home, wallow in misery, send money to the folks that abused me. Repeat over and over.”

Kalu didn’t care if he said too much. If he let himself within the real world appear in his current state. After all, he felt no embarrassment or shame within these tendencies anymore. As Pin walked up to the counter, he knew that this conversation would eventually be leaked to the Guardians of the New Dawn. Intervention was most likely inevitable. A minor annoyance at worst. Almost demanding the bar tender, Kalu spoke. ”One more glass.”

Embers was a passionate being unafraid to show her emotions to the world. She would continue living on despite no matter her circumstances nor the circumstances of the people living around her. Kalu respected that attitude, even though it was certainly more normal than his mental state, because he never had the chance to even display his emotions. The emotions he lacked right now. ”Weird, it’s Valentine’s Day and I lack the innate ability to feel love. Maybe it’s a learned emotion. I guess I’ve never learned it.”

  7. Kalu continued to live his life on the First Floor. Although he had been taking steps to ensure that he consistently progressed in hopes of one day helping the people clear Aincrad, he has been met with adversity after adversity including his disability to grind mobs without the proper weapon thus removing the main source of leveling up.

This was when he had decided to purview the market on the First Floor. This was not uncommon behavior of Kalu, but was not necessarily an everyday routine. He sought to preview any items they may have to offer (occasionally hoping that something rather exciting would go on). Looking at the stalls brought no fruit to bear other than a rather fine cloak that he could not afford with his current economic status.

However, he had noticed a storefront that stood apart from the open-air bazaar. Looking through the windows, he had noticed an NPC merchant. Although their wares were usually worse than the standard Uncommons you would get from player merchants, Kalu felt compelled to enter the storefront.

  8. Kalu would have been slightly annoyed because of the woman next to him being slightly overbearing and hearing a glass break and fall (which he believed was the other patron that was within the tavern). However, he didn't give it too much thought as he sipped from his glass hoping that it could fill up his empty vessel. I thought I was going to have a peaceful drink.

Kalu simply looked over Ember, taking her low-maintenance but high-comfort outfit into account. To Kalu, it appeared as if she wasn't all too interested about what outfit she was wearing. After all, many people would simply fall over her due to her natural beauty. "It's a shame, truly. I came here trying to break a promise. I'm not sure if this even counts."

Looking over the booth in the corner and finding the glass broken on the floor and slowly dissolving into crystal shards, Kalu finally remembered the other patron's name. "Pinball. It's been a long time since I've seen him. It's been never since I talked to him. Kalu was wondering what he was doing here. Moping around due to the inability to have have a significant other in life? Or was he was remembering some past event concerning a loved one? Whatever it may have been, Kalu took no interest in what it was.

"It's been a long day without a friend. Trying to be what I'm not." Kalu took his Grecian tragic mask out of his inventory and placed it on the counter. "Wearing a facade of emotion will only bring you tragedy. Hell, I’m not entirely sure how I have not killed myself yet. Name is Paglikha. Call me any variation of Paglikha or Kaluluwa you see fit. Most people tend to call me Kalu anyways.” He took another sip of the drink. Damn shame it is.

  9. Kalu walked through the dank streets of Taft while looking for a place he could have his virtual drink. His resolution to break his vow would, normally, make him nervous because of his fear of becoming his parents.

While walking, he thought back to the morning he left the Philippines. An image, besides the usual difficulties when faced with starvation, haunts his mind. The image of his mother crying, yelling at his selfish father. She was asking, pleading, begging. “Please, let our child have the chance to have his future.” She was on her knees, prostrating, almost as if she was praying for forgiveness from whatever power that may exist.

“We are at the mercy of the hands of fate and free will. The question that needs to be answered is which one of them is heavier.” Kalu said absentmindedly in front of a tavern named “The Boar’s Tusks.”

Walking inside, he noticed that the floor was a dark oak while the seats had cushions similar to velvet. The counter was made of a mahogany with ornate carvings depicting a man being impaled with a boar’s tusks and ants ripping apart another. Kalu also noticed a man sitting in one of the corners in the room, by himself in a booth.

Sitting down at the counter, the NPC promptly inquired what drink he shall have. Kalu simply responded that he was fine with anything, mainly because this alcoholic drink was not really alcoholic. It wouldn’t impair any of his logical thinking, but it was the idea of breaking his promise to himself that drove him to do this. Every prior restraint he has felt since he was a child had mostly disappeared.

When the NPC sat down a drink of red wine, Kalu picked it up and simply pronounced, “Cheers.”

  10. ”Nothing has ever changed. I have always been alone since the day I was born. Surrounding yourself with people, it's not a true companionship. I wonder if they even enjoyed my comradery.”

He took off his mask, knowing full well that this visage was not required. He slammed it against the wall, over and over again. He was emotionless, his feelings were more of frustration rather than rage. More of disappointment rather than frustration. More of ‘this feels right’ rather than frustration.

Eventually the mouth and the chin has been deformed. ”How fitting. The happy, laughing visage of the old Grecian comedic mask has turned into its tragic counterpart." He put the mask in his inventory and walked out of the venue.

As a child, Kalu swore to himself never to have a drink. However, promises were meant to be broken.“Maybe I'll go get a drink.”

    <<Paglikha has left the thread.>>

  11. Kalu’s mind was brought back to his hometown in the Philippines. There was a constant blare of horns coming from Jeepneys, autorickshaws, and cars continued to ring through his mind. There was an old woman humming a song while selling cassava cake; improperly prepared and made Kalu face death itself. And I was prepared to die.

When he came to his virtual reality, his breath was ragged and he was sitting in a chair at corner of the room. However, unlike every other time he has come out of the dream, he lacked a sense of dread and regret. This time, he felt numb and empty. He felt dead.

Is this how my parents felt when they drank alcohol? However, Kalu did not accept that notion. Was his emotions like a bank? Has he used it all up trying to force himself to smile, to cry? ”Worrying over this is worthless.

  12. Kalu had heard of a Valentine’s Day masquerade ball. A day dedicated to the memory of the Saint Valentine whose true nature was not well-known and very ambiguous. Very fitting to be the saint associated with love.

However, Kalu reasoned that the masquerade ball would probably be the best place to celebrate Valentine’s Day rather than inside of his decrepit shop. However, that meant choosing that Kalu would have to prepare an outfit.

He already decided that his mask would be based off of the old Grecian comedy mask. His clothings, however, would be a much more difficult thing to wear. His usual style of clothing was whatever he had to wear for the occasion, be it the school uniform or the basic clothings he has been unable to replace this whole game. However, a quick visit to an NPC named Fatnadur, got him the attire he sought for. A plain black and white suit with a red tie. Not my style, but the price you have to pay to fit in. Donning the suit and his mask, he set out to the venue.

It didn't take long to reach the ball (the outside was decorated with the usual hearts and lovey-dovey effects). However, what drew his attention was the two people outside of the venue. One wearing a green mask with a butterfly on its side, the other wearing a mask resembling a fox. He didn’t wish to bother them as they appeared to be having a private conversation. However, he felt it necessary to greet himself to everyone he met to seem more cordial than his usual self. As he was opening the door, he was met with the sounds of the festivities occuring within the venue. “Good evening, madam. Monsieur. I hope you’ll join the party soon. My name is Kalu, and I wish you the best of evenings.” He walked in and was hit with the cacophony of sounds. This is going to be a long night.

((For anyone who wonders what I mean by Old Grecian comedy mask, it’s the mask that appears to be constantly laughing which is usually paired with the tragic mask.))

((The mention was just because I referenced you two within my post.))

  13. The notion of Christmas escaped Kalu for many years. The idea of gift-giving and celebrating with others was foreign to Kalu as his idea of a perfect day was to stay inside playing the guitar.

However, Kalu wanted to break the old habit. He wanted to feel life within Aincrad fearing that he will never be able to have emotions in the real world ever again.

Christmas in the Philippines was an extremely long festivity (lasting  a good portion of the wet season), so Kalu wasn't able to experience caroling around a community (although he felt as if his singing would be more frightening than  inviting) or paying respects to anyone in particular (having already done that plenty of times with Axios). However, Kalu planned on visiting the people he most related to family (or friends for that matter) in this world.

Kalu heard of a Christmas party going on in Eatos' shop on the Fourth Floor. However, he had nothing to bare except a barely-less-than forced smile and an out of place Santa hat. If I'm going to do one thing, it's celebrating Christmas with others.

Kalu walked into the shop and noticed a peculiar smell (which he quickly discerned was this white substance in other people's cups) and festivities going around. When he noticed that there was a dog familiar, Kalu walked over and bent down to give it a few scratches all around its neck. "You're an interesting fellow, aren't you?"

  14.

Entering the shop, Kaluluwa marvelled at the shop’s interior. It was ornate beyond his own belief and one of the most detailed architectures he has seen to date. Before walking up to the counter and talking to Eatos, he browsed the cases of the weapons, many of them with a personality of their own. However, none of them would fulfill the task that he wanted to set out.

After assuring himself that the weapon he wanted was not in the shop’s current stock, Kaluluwa decided to go to the counter. After he filled the form, handed it back to her, and transferred the required payment of 700 Col he spoke. “I sincerely hope I am not being a nuisance, but I wish to create a custom order for a weapon. All I have right now is this.” Kaluluwa help up his starting weapon, a dagger. “Thank you in advance.” Kaluluwa bowed.

  15. “I have neither preference nor much stake in our group’s formation during this quest”, Kaluluwa spoke. He strongly believed that the group’s formation would only matter if they would encounter some monsters during the quest. However, he ruled that out as highly unlikely, especially if the guild was to be within a set maximum distance from each pair (or trio from how the discussion was beginning to reach). In the event that it actually occurs… Well, we have great fighters.

The turban that Kaluluwa bought would probably offer him zero protection from the sands that would eventually be upon them once the group was registered for the quest, but it did help against the constant heat from the sun’s rays. When he shifted his feet around a bit, the sand had somehow found his way into his shoes. And now I remember why I hated the beach.

Kaluluwa wanted to remove the sand from his shoes, but in order to do he would either have to balance on one leg or sit down. I’ll take my chances with the balancing act. Sitting down might just get it into my main clothes. While taking off his left shoe and trying to dump the sand out of it, he hopped around with his right leg. However, he was not so lucky as he thought as he fell to the ground only a few moments later and his entire body was now covered in sand. Not what I was hoping.

(I also sent too many materials to the banker last time. It should be a total of 16 now.)

  17. Kaluluwa took a deep breath as he entered the shop. Dust angels were spread throughout the small shack, giving it a musty smell. However, Kaluluwa did not dislike the smell. It reminded him of a new house and brought back fond memories of when he first came to Japan. He could almost see it now. His designated mentor, Shiota, welcomed him with a cooked meal which Kaluluwa graciously accepted.

Opening entering the back room of his shop, Kaluluwa sat down on the chair and picked up his guitar and funneled his emotions into the instrument. Hoping, that he can be satisfied with what he creates.

The first song was near perfect. He wanted to attempt a song named Flower Dance that was his favorite song. He was surprised to find that he still remembered how to play it after these two years.

The second song, however, he thought was a fiasco. No way I'm selling this to a person. Kaluluwa attempted to erase the song from the recording crystal in time and was successful. Guess one out of two is still a good score.

  18. Kaluluwa was on the first floor speaking to a tree when he received a message from his guild leader Stryder, asking him to join in on the Traveller quest on the fifth floor. Quickly apologizing to Axios for the short visit, he began running towards Starting City and to the teleport pad.

Kaluluwa heard that the fifth floor had an unruly heat permeating the entire area. It can't be any worse than the Philippines. The only thing he was concerned about was the sandstorms. Although he has faced insurmountable heat and humidity, this was his first time against sand and dry heat.

When he appeared on the fifth floor, his first thoughts was that the heat was not unpleasant. In fact, he found that putting on a jacket with wide and drooping sleeves helped him survive in it. After obtaining the jacket from a nearby vendor, Kaluluwa traveled to the coordinates Stryder had given him.

When he arrived, Kaluluwa realized that was the last (or at least one of the last) to arrive at their location. "Are we waiting for anyone else?"

  19. As they were nearing the woods, Kaluluwa started speaking. “Rothsbite. I'm sorry about… what happened before.” Gathering his words, he reached his hand out and felt the breeze brush past him. “You see. If I seem to be stoic or uncaring at times, it's not by choice.”

Kaluluwa tried to steel his resolve. No one truly understood his position. At least, no one who was still alive. If he ever planned to tell anyone, this was as good as a time to do so. “I grew up worlds away from a good life. Starvation was a constant threat and seemed as if there was no escape. Between school and home, I barely had enough energy to even move. At school, I enrolled myself into a charity program to keep my place but really spent most of the time sitting still to conserve as much energy; I didn't even dare to pick up a pen or pencil. At home, I was faced with parents spending all of their money on alcohol and hopefully domestic abuse and child negligence rings a bell.” He paused for a second looking around the brush.

“Oh, a herb”, he spoke flatly as he plucked the vegetation from the ground.

  20.

Kaluluwa nodded in approval to Rothsbite’s success. However, his focus was on a separate issue; about one half of a kilometer to their right was a boar. Ever since he learned the monster responsible for Axios’ death, he has felt a cold hatred towards boars. Despite his stoic appearance, his bloodlust towards the boar was obvious in his gaze. After what seemed like an eternity staring at the boar while Rothsbite collected the flowers, he let out an exasperated breath. “There's still more work to be done." The duo headed off towards the forest.

Unlike Rothsbite, Kaluluwa was having a difficult time searching for a base material for the alchemist. If the task was to find base ingredients for a cook, he could have used his prior knowledge of plants that came from his time in the Philippines scavenging for food. Alas, it was not. After a couple of minutes of looking for the familiar plants from his childhood to no avail, he gave up. “Looks like that isn’t working.”

  21. Kaluluwa was in his shop when he received a message about the Halloween event. Figuring that he had nothing better to do, he planned on going to the Halloween party despite never having celebrated Halloween in his life. Kaluluwa believed that the Halloween party was a chance to meet new people, especially frontliners. What you know is not the only important thing in life. Who you know might just save you from some trouble. Assuming that Kaluluwa can survive long enough to become stronger, he would eventually need to learn who the other frontliners are. He wanted to meet the people sooner, rather than later, in case he makes a fool out of himself on the first (and hopefully not the last) boss fight he participates.

The costume that Kaluluwa was wearing was ironic. He believed that his costume of the one-eyed giant known as Bungisngis, who was in a perpetual state of laughter, would provide an amusing contrast to his usual outward appearance and behavior. He even hoped that it would crack a smile or two. However, Kaluluwa had the gnawing feeling that the others at the party would only see a “cyclops” costume with tusks and bared teeth.

Upon reaching the rusty gate of the mansion, an amorphous being with a flaming pumpkin for its head appeared out of thin air. In response, Kaluluwa tensed up, worried that he had fallen into a trap before remembering that he was inside of a safezone. “What a nice costume! It is great to see you here at this event. Here’s your item for showing and I hope you enjoy yourself.”

“Thank you,” Kaluluwa responded as a notification opened up showing that he has gained a new item. When he walked into the foyer, he was surprised at how fancy (and how eerily looking) it was. The chandelier, the wavering candles, and items at the very end of the foyer fulfilled the purpose of a haunted mansion. In response to the spectacle before him, he gave a small grunt of approval. Looks like you’ve outdone yourself for this event Kayaba.

  22. After hearing Rothsbite's words, Kaluluwa knew he found a good man. He thought that it was near impossible for anyone to understand his predicament. When he found a hand on his shoulder, Kaluluwa felt a tight pain in his chest and he realized that this as the first physical interaction he has had with another player since this death game had started. "I appreciate that."

Kaluluwa stared at the door in front of him and opened it. Inside was a cacophony of smells and the sounds of liquids bubbling and boiling made this place truly seem like an Alchemist’s workshop. Looking around, vials of various substances were placed upon shelves. Kaluluwa couldn’t help but contrast this place with his own minimalist performer shop. That’s when an old man, appearing to be around 50, came out from a back room.

“My name’s Zakariah. Are you here for your first lesson?”, he called out. “Come on, don’t be shy. Look, it’s really really easy. The both of you just need to get five materials each and, when you both get back here, we’ll make a potion together. What do you say?”

A notification screen popped up in front of Kaluluwa notifying him about the quest when the Zakariah finished his sentence. Kaluluwa readily accepted it and nodded to Rothsbite. “There’s a forest nearby, not far from Starting City. If it’s alchemical materials he requires, it is a good bet. Although, I wouldn’t doubt that there would be some anywhere we go. Whichever environment you’re more comfortable with that’s fine” He paused for a short time and looked around the multiple chemicals around the room before heading towards the door. “Shall we?”

  23. I am one of the "new" (read: low-leveled) players who would like to keep the current PK rules. It is currently amazing for the idea of someone to be able to kill you at any time. It fills the low-leveled player with a certain dread that keeps them on their toes. However, I do agree it can be discouraging. However, I don't think it should be changed much.

What might be a good idea is to create and enforce a roleplay etiquette. There can be two rules. One rule is that no player can go willy nilly killy and go abuse lower-leveled players. The second ethic (unenforced rule to a certain point) is that the player should ask for permission to kill another player. These two rules should be formulated so that if the player killer is specifically and very frequently targeting low-leveled players without their consent (up to staff discretion on what frequent is and how frequent consent needs to be acquired), they can be "removed" from the game. This "removal" is also up to the choices of the staff (not sure if it wants to be killed by NPC or something).

(Props to Mari's multiple kills for giving me this idea. I thought it would be a pretty good blend between the constant required consent of 1.x and the current rule. Under the current rules, Mari would've killed a lot more. Under the old rules, Mari wasn't able to kill that many people. Admittedly still a ton, but not as much as it could have been.)

  24. "This will be my second quest. The first one I ever did was to take on a job as a performer. Currently building up my stock so I can get some customers." Kaluluwa was internally cringing at his attempts to make small talk and banter. He wanted to make a lasting connection with this player and, being very naive, to help him survive this world. Kaluluwa always made it a point to research whatever he was getting himself through, and this quest line would just get harsher and harsher. "Rothsbite. If this is not a weird question, where are you from?"

"I'm not the flashiest person or the best equipped. In fact, I'm the exact opposite. But you're here, and you're happy." Kaluluwa was silent for a second because he was trying to piece together his sentences. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, try to preserve that happiness. You remind me of someone I knew." Speaking about Axios in the past tense, does it mean I've finally accepted it? Kaluluwa felt a tear roll down his face and wiped it with the sleeve of his shirt. Of course I did, but that doesn't mean I'm still not sad about his death.

  25. Kaluluwa was now dwarfed by the man called Rothsbite as he helped him up. He seems cheerful. Kaluluwa began to hear apology and reasons the man had crashed into him. Then Rothsbite may a proposal, let him join his party and perform this certain quest. It appeared to Kaluluwa as if Rothsbite was speaking about the so-called "Lessons" questline, appropriately named by the players he has talked to since all of the quests have the name "Lessons" in them. Certainly, Kaluluwa hasn't completed this questline, let alone any quest in the game so far. It certainly can't hurt. Plus, the first one is supposed to be easy. Or at least, from what I've heard.

Kaluluwa nodded his acceptance of the apology, although he saw no need for there to be one, and began to speak. "I have not completed that quest yet. I may be of some assistance", Kaluluwa spoke while opening up his menu to send a party invite. "Let's begin, shall we?"
