  1. Morningstar eyed the Warchief's health. It was a speck, barely visible on the light grey bar above his head. Morningstar charged up a sword art, determined to end the fight once and for all. Gold sparkled from along his blade, which he clutched tightly in both hands. Before he could even swing, a gust of air cut across his side, created by the quick stab of a sabre. The concentrated energy of his sword art faltered and deactivated. Startled, he turned toward the disturbance and found himself staring wide-eyed at Nymoria. She nearly clipped him with her attack. Morningstar wasn't sure if s
  2. In spite of his failed attack, Morningstar did not disengage with the warchief. Nymoria's skillful stun bought him enough time to reposition and prepare his next moves. Glorn, dazed and confused, was an easy target. A single accurate hit to his body would change the tide of battle for everyone. Morningstar held his breath, took a few steps back, and with a running start, he beamed across the barbarian encampment. His normally golden sword art shifted to black at the midway point. When he reached Warchief Glorn, he exhaled. Time seemed to slow down. He wound Dying Sun back and swished it throug
  3. Morningstar hopped nervously from foot to foot, eager to step into the ring. He felt awkward in his new robes. So accustomed to his usual red attire, the martial arts student found anything that deviated from it unnatural. The long, flowing tunic was fitted specifically for him, allowing him to move freely under pressure. A white sash was tied around his waist

  5. Teion's reply was cut short by the flash of a sword art. Acanthus, like a wild animal, shot past them. The suddenness of it all overloaded his mind, muddying his movements. A wide explosion of a sword art culled the remainder of the bandit peons, and Morningstar only dodged it by the skin of his teeth. The boss, who had yet to recover from Star's first stun, was already being pummeled by another. The rhythm of the battle turned harsh; frantic in its intensity. The frenzied strikes, the bloodlust in Acanthus' eyes... had he ever seen her act that way before? In his mind, she was cool-head
  6. The effect of the fight's extension appeared to be aggressiveness, both for their opponent and Nymoria herself. Morningstar hesitated to reengage with Glorn, nervous about his party mate's state of mind. Her signs came off as rageful, and they way she fought supported that hypothesis. What a day. Whether it made him uncomfortable or not, Morningstar had no choice but to keep up his tempo. Nym put up a good fight, but the warchief would outlast her in a straight one versus one. Morningstar followed behind her and clashed with the giant, mindful of his partner's sword swings and behav

Volleys of thunder erupted from the stands, brought upon by the eager and impatient fans of the sport. Crowds of violence, slaughter, and bloodshed enthusiasts piled into the cramped concrete circle, sitting snugly beside each other to fit as many people as physically possible. Vendors set up
  11. Morningstar frustratedly translated from Spanish to English while they talked. After years, his verbiage had gotten rusty. Who knew that languages required upkeep? "You know, I never tried. I figured completing all of the puzzles was the only way out. Actually, now I feel a little silly." He obliged when asked to make her party leader, but continued to translate while she did her tests. "Las bestias más feroces con una fuerza inigualable. That's the bear. I'm drawing a blank on the rest of them. What's a 'la que ronda y salvaguarda el cielo?'" He asked, although he knew no answ
  12. Damn. Right in the eye. Morningstar couldn't help but wince in response to Nymoria's attack. She'd picked the right weak spot to jab, it seemed. Bloody pixels trickled out of its wound, slowly depleting its vast pool of health. When the stun wore off, the warchief raged, clutching his destroyed eye. He let out a guttural roar, shaking the battlefield. "I WILL CRUSH YOU LIKE THE INSECTS YOU ARE!" With his wrist and leg healed, he retrieved his axe and stood tall. His movements were swifter and more reckless. He swung at Nymoria, and then at Morningstar, and when he tired of their tricky ev

  15. Star nudged Acanthus. "What's a kessel run?" he whispered. "Is that like a fathom?" Using Gorge's fantastic directions, and listening to Freyd's incredible description of his travels, they made their way into the caves of Floor 21. Morningstar wasn't sure what exactly they were walking into, but he knew he'd know it when he knew it. Fourteen parsecs, eighty-nine jiffies, and a couple of bloits northward, and they eventually came to a clearing. "I guess those are the drakelings, then," Star pointed to the little flying critter perched on a stalagmite. "They're kind of cute. Is this qu
  16. Nym whipped by him like a bird swooping in on its prey. She ripped through the stunned barbarians until nothing was left but their dissolving corpses. Morningstar looked impressed. "Good hits," he said. He probably should have been at least a little bit concerned. Her strikes were different from his own--more emotional, more vengeful. There wasn't the time to worry, however. The dungeon's final phase had begun. The barbarian warchief's spawn was hard to miss. He was commanding, brutal, and dripping with pride. His frame was even larger than the two barbarians they had just killed. He r

  19. Things were looking good. The lesser bandits were falling without putting up much of a fight, the party's energy reserves were high, and Morningstar was finally getting into a rhythm. Without exerting himself, he deflected the attack of a spear-wielding bandit and poked him full of sword-shaped holes. On the other side of the camp, Acanthus had just finished off her group of mobs as well. Star took his eyes away for only a moment while he parried the remaining bandit on his end. A fierce kick to the stomach put him in his place, and a sword art finished the job. "Shit." The thud of T
