  1. The cynic in Chase wanted to mock Freyd for his sophisticated choice of words and how formal he was beginning to sound, but that feeling got stronger when the comment about Mari was made. For someone that wanted to mend things between the two, that sure felt like a gut punch. He was quiet and gave very short answers, his smile having faded and the forcefully happy tone done the same. "Cleared every quest except for Redemption. This wasn't here."

Chase DBP Silent.pngHe turned to Hirru and gave a small nod, as if telling him to use the sword they'd just obtained. "All yours.", he promptly spoke and started heading out of the cellar and towards the castle. He checked to make sure that the two were following along just fine, remaining quiet throughout the trek. The closer they got to the castle, the more in tact it appeared compared to the rest of the buildings on the floor. Whatever had happened here left it untouched, or at least for the most part still in one piece. That or someone's construction team decided leaving this in ruins was too much of a shame.

Chase could hear someone further ahead of the group, waiting to welcome them probably. He unsheathed his broken sword from his hip, silently looking at the other two as if telling them to do the same and prepare for another bout, probably against stronger enemies this time around. "Here it comes."

  2. And of course, Freyd didn't answer to either of them. With a deep sigh, Chase just looked at Hiru and gave him a shrug. "He sometimes does this. It's not personal.", he groaned before looking back on the path they were following, letting the rogue follow. Probably not the best choice he'd made considering who he trusted most and who he didn't- in this case Hirru-, but hey, who was he to speak otherwise.

Chase DBP Default.pngBefore long, they were all inside, having gotten all the way down to the cellar and quietly looking about. That lasted about a few seconds before the monsters started to crawl in, or just got angry enough with the group, and they decided to attack. Freyd managed to deal a hefty hit to two of the three, leaving the rest with just enough health for the bluehead to take down. And with a swift strike, he did. One that felt much more comfortable now that there were no cooldowns. The knowledge Chase could unleash these attacks one after the other reassured him honestly, unlike whatever Cardinal was trying out beforehand.

He looked over his shoulder as the three undead creatures shattered into blue shards, turning back to where they came from and seeing something glimmer from further on inside. "Hero, you go.", he called out to the new companion with the mispronounced name, giving a small smile and waving his head towards it. At this point, he was being this friendly mostly because he didn't want another clash like that with Freyd's. And he didn't want to give reasons for conflict in a place so disgusting, vile and filthy. He honestly wanted out as soon as they could, the place just seemed too... gothic? Emo? What was the word he was looking for? "... Do you two know each other?"

  7. Chase was going about his business around the house, noticing the message on the corner of his eyes. Opening up his inbox to read it, it's Freyd once more. He understood what he was trying to do and still felt bittersweet about the whole situation, but... free EXP is free EXP. With a huff, he equipped his gear and got moving, ending up on the 14th floor not too long after.

Chase DBP Default Uncertain.png"Didn't have you for a 'chick' kind of guy.", Chase quietly emerged from behind the two, scratching the back of his head. Freyd had never shown interest as far as the bluehead was concerned before, and that especially after the all too corny 'We've driven each other nuts because we're friends' shtick, it felt creepier by the minute. He was actually speaking like a human. He turned to look at Hirru, but with genuinely nothing to say, he remained quiet and almost had a tense stare on his face before looking away again. "... Do you think Cardinal changed the stupid cooldowns because I complained about it?", he asked Freyd in a mixed joking and serious tone, sliding both of his hands in his pockets. The new system was intriguing enough alright, his weapon was now just a 'straight sword', he had shifts to specialize in area of effect or single target, or tech if he felt more gimmicky, and even rounder was an option. One he wouldn't touch, but an option nonetheless.

  8. It made sense for anyone and everyone to take being chained to some virtual world without their permission personally. Who would even want this in the first place? It could sound good, if they didn't just flat out die. Then again, can that work in a game? The answer is obvious, but as far as bluehead is concerned, a shrug is the most positive answer one can get out of him.

Chase DBP Glare (Old).pngHis expression became slightly more stern as he let out a sigh and looked back at the boss, seeing it barely still alive with any health. Chase ran in and slashed once, twice, three times, missing one after the other before the boss slashed at him, hitting him once on the arm and then managing to run his dagger into the boy's shoulder. Although he jumped back, it was too late and he was already almost half of his health down. What the fuck happened this update or whatever it was that changed Aincrad so much? "... Half my health? Are you serious?"

  9. Chase was able to tell. He didn't take that in an aggressive or mocking way, instead groaning and trying to deliver an attack to the agile bandit. He parried the strike with the knife he was wielding before hopping back to dodge what could have been from a larger sword (one not broken like blue's), and attempted to stab the vanguard.

Chase DBP Silent.pngHe managed to dodge the hit, just barely avoiding getting scraped if not worse by the lunge forwards, looking away from both their enemy and Freyd. "I lag behind a lot. I don't do well with systems and this thing... the cooldowns and things confuse me. And I was just starting to learn how to operate the previous system, finally. I'd made a small library on my basement, with all the systems so I can help understand them better. But now it's useless. I hate Cardinal.", he grumbled and shook his head silently, looking back at Freyd. "How much of your life did you even spend on games before this?"

Chase DBP Guilty Silent.pngHe wanted to comment on it. To start screeching at Freyd again, but he wouldn't. He let out a drawn out sigh once more and pinched the bridge of his nose, watching the boss silently and just going along the rotation, diving in and slashing again. Another wide hit at the chest and it was left stunned completely, as Chase turned to look at his (current) partner again. "... You're up.". There was a bit more tension but the silence worked for getting rid of it and not strengthening it, funny enough. He'd be able to tell by now that the boy meant to comment on him and just did all his power not to. A... topic shift, as much as he hated it, would help. "... How come you're already accustomed to the system? The new one."

  11. Throughout this fight, this was the most tense moment. Just when the stakes were getting higher, it felt like all time had stopped and Chase was just staring the boss down for a couple weeks, hell, a month even, wondering what to do. But he finally broke out of it, sighing and giving a quiet glance at Freyd.

Chase DBP Default Uncertain.png"Why do I feel like I've seen this play out again?", he asked and with a glance back at the boss, he gripped his sword, starting to charge right towards it. Although the boss began to hop away, the bluehead managed to close the gap alarmingly fast, tightening his grip and swinging his sword forwards with both hands. Just when his attack would miss, almost miraculously at the last moment the blade stretched out of thin air, the blinding light slashing through the Boss- but it was a shallow wound. Hell, he even felt some resistance when he delivered his attack, gritting his teeth and doing all he could to drive it out the other way. "Th-This guy won't die easy."

  12. The whole mention of gaming got the boy to quietly lower his head, look at the counter and give it a bit of thinking. So she did 'game' on her free time to an extent, unlike him. Funny enough, unlike just him, everyone else here seemed to have had more ingrained experiences with other MMOs or whatever these games were called. "Ah, I see. I'm- uh... I only hung out with another person, Lily, so we didn't do that much. Went to school, came back and then just kinda sat together and went for walks in the park, or played together or we just talked. Kind of boring."

Chase DBP Default.png"I don't think I needed anything else though. I felt like I was having fun and it was okay. We saw the whole NerveGear thing and got very excited cause it seemed like a nice entry point for games. We were going to switch accounts and have a house or something, she was big on decoration as much as she was in the whole 'fighting' aspect. Then this happened.", he tried his best to not stutter and relieve his own 'trapped in a game' stress, feeling the tension start to lift at last. "I kinda kept more pre-occupied with studies and stuff. Not big on people. Didn't talk to many, few companies, and I was quiet. Kinda had to change that in here. I'm still choppy with speaking though."

  13. There wasn't much for Chase to say to the compliments he was met with. He quietly looked at Freyd, before turning to the burlier thug that took a dagger out, gripping it tightly in his hand. "Seems to be the chief.", he groaned and clenched his sword just as tight as the thief wielded his own blade, checking his list of sword arts and going for the strongest one he could muster without the cooldowns getting in the way.

Chase DBP Silent.pngHe lunged towards the boss, who stood his ground and gracefully dodged any attempt at the boy's attack landing over missing its mark. He dodged and dodged, and when Chase finally gave up, he attempted to sneak in his own barrage of attacks. Chase just repeated the same maneuvers the thief had, struggling to get out of the situation before he got the both's blades to meet, sending them skidding a bit farther back. "This guy is very fast, careful.", he warned Freyd and looked over his shoulder, giving him the nod to go right back in and try landing a hit for himself.

  14. A lot had been said and right now, Chase wasn't sure what to add to it or say for himself. If Kayaba wanted them dead, he would have done so a while now, especially considering the demonstration of power at the start of the game. The boy had his doubts about him sitting somewhere up there, playing God and watching everyone suffer to his sick enjoyment. But he wasn't sure what Kayaba really was doing, where he was, what he was and if he was doing something to them, or with them.

Chase DBP Silent Unsure.png"Nothing either of us knew about a storm, we were locked in the boss room when we were fighting.", he confirmed with NIGHT echoing the statement, remaining quiet afterwards. "Let's just give everything a look and see what we make of the floor.", he sighed, stuffing both hands in his pockets and looking down at the ground. All the questions racing through the back of his mind for all this time, he was now faced with once more, and there wasn't any way to answer them. He'd gone around making friends and looking for what little sense he could make when it came to Kayaba, but nothing to say right here. Just a sigh and disappointment before he looked over to the other two. Maybe leading the way wouldn't get them anywhere, especially when he hated the way everybody else around kept looking at him and even froze in place every here and there because of it. "... Anyone wanna lead?"

  15. Chase wasn't a people guy. That much had become apparent if his declaration prior didn't make it so already. But he could tell just how awkward Lessa was with the topic from how she spoke about it- something about it hitting too close to the way blue himself acted. He sighed and took another bite, scratching the back of his head with his other hand. If Alkor was their only common 'person of interest' (or topic at all) and it was awkward, there wasn't much he himself could think about to bring up.

Chase DBP Silent.png"Drinks? Did you uh. Drink? In real life. Alcohol.", he awkwardly tried to help the conversation keep going, offering an equally weak smile as he tried to put a distance between the current topic and Alkor. The conversation just seemed to be making Lessa queasy. "I didn't do much with others but drinking I never got into. Alcohol hits too easy.", he admitted before taking another bite, resting one hand on the counter and tapping his fingers on it quietly, at a very gentle rhythm- probably some song or melody stuck in the back of his mind. "Actually what did you even do to kill time in the real world? I know we went over it but I'm dry out of stuff. To talk about. Sorry."

  16. His single targets were still all the same, and Freyd's AoEs were too- it probably was what he was thinking, the weapon made the difference. "So I can't keep going the same way I could before.", he quietly concluded himself, not sure what else to say other than to decimate the bandits before him. With only two stepping up to the duo, he raised his sword in the air and brought it down, cutting one in half before taking a stab from a dagger right to his stomach.

Chase DBP Default.pngHe wasn't sure if the older version of this quest would be able to damage him, but this had. A, funny enough, miniscule amount of damage, too. Maybe he still could tank as well as he could attack. His agility hadn't taken that much a hit and his defenses seemed to be higher than before, but so did the damages of the mobs around them. More test runs would be needed, he'd have to go around Aincrad questing again, just when he thought he put an end to that whole story. "They don't deal any damage, even though they're stronger and we're weaker.", he grumbled and kicked the Bandit back, stepping next to Freyd again as the last of them stood alone.

  17. With Sewallus nodding, it was official. Anything goes. Chase took a deep breath, taking a few steps back and taking the same stance he was holding just a few seconds ago. "Stay clear of me for a second.", he warned the paladin and ran towards the tree, slashing as a green light covered the swordsman's blade, but a pink trail was left behind his attack and the same shattering (funny enough) of the tree's bark happened when it connected. And so, the tree fell. Most of the had work had been done by Sewallus' axe of course, but blue'd like to think he did a bit himself.

Chase DBP Happy.png"Looks like you got the hang of it. Accept this.", he said and a GUI popped up before Chase, with a confirmation window. 'You have now learned the Shatter Extra Skill'. It must have played out more like an offer to the NPC, but he didn't say much and rolled with it. "So now we can both use the skill. Thank you. I don't know how things go... anymore, but. I'll try to use it as best as I can. Let me take you back to town, I want to thank Remington.", he offered and the armorclad warrior only accepted the proposal. "Certainly. I'll tell him myself, but I'm sure he'll have a thing or two to say to you as well.", he smiled for once, no longer burdened by his defeat from the titan they slayed, beginning their walk all the way back to Florenthia. "You really were being risky before though. Next time, I don't know if I'll be lucky enough to get you out of it- or there at all.", Chase grumbled and gave a somewhat tired look at the knight, hearing a sigh in response. "Hmm... You're right. I should tone it down, leader of the guard or not."

  18. What NIGHT had just mentioned experiencing once the boss fight was over, Chase didn't remember anything of. "Someone ran at the final Shadow Horror, and then I heard Orgoth's voice. I turned to look at him and Mari, but I blacked out. I then just remember staying fainted on the floor. Woke up a few minutes ago in my house... I don't like this.", he echoed the sentiment of everyone by now, letting out a deep sigh and looking up at the sky- or what he could see of it with all the airships and whatnot.

Chase DBP Silent Guilty.pngAnd then NIGHT showed him a sword that looked... standard. He gave his inventory a peek, and only then happened to see a weapon he had too. Another one named after Orgoth, but this one was his 'Legacy', not 'Wrath'. He took it out of his inventory and showed it to her, silent. "Holy, Phase, Accuracy. The enhancements seem to be the same.", he tried helping them put two and two together, groaning and tapping his head with his knuckles in annoyance before he put it back in his inventory. And then, the scientist began to talk. "Hey, Darwin. Safezones are safezones, you can't fight in here. The game will protect you if you get attacked, and if it's not safezone, monsters can go in. There's no way Cardinal would allow monsters to enter the city in any way.", he growled, less so at Alkor's theory and more so at the fact that by this point, it might as well be within the realm of possibility. The only reason Chase doubted it was because Kayaba had proven to care little about destroying everything in Aincrad, and more so about giving everyone an equal chance. "Kayaba wouldn't make the system that way. He wants us to get out alive, not kill us or the towns we use off.", the grumbling continued with a low tone, looking down at the ground discouraged and clenching his fists.

"We should probably look around town. Let's just not go out of the safezone.", he agreed with Alkor's plan, raising his head to look at the other two just to exchange glances and make sure that they were all on the same page. All of the changes being made here were such a massive pain to deal with. Way too much unconfirmed information, and they already had to start working with. So this is the uncertainty people began to explore SAO with, huh?

  19. A nod to Lessa's question, before he looked at her as though she'd just killed a man. "What the fuck is she doing to the sandwich.", he almost screamed in the back of his mind, shivering whole and looking over at his own. He wasn't going to violate it the very same way that Lessa had just now. Man of god or not, some sins were to just not be practiced outside of 'wouldn't that be funny' moments. This was one of them.

Chase DBP Oops.png"Uuuh... I needed a partner to do quests so I asked him to give me information on his skills in exchange for my help. We both hadn't done them yet.", he explained and took a bite of his own sandwich, focusing on the flavor of the crust more than the rest of the PB&J. "... Yeah, he seems fine. He'd told me about a friend he doesn't... talk with anymore. Not you, right?", he muttered lowly with a small pause before his question followed, turning his head to look at the side as he took another bite. "I don't know him well enough, but... he's a 'bro' guy. You can trust him and- he's your best friend, you know him. He also sucks at speaking as much as I do.", he commented before ending off to give her some space to talk again, chuckling lowly and swallowing the mouthful at last. "The food here is... good? Not my favorite but. I like it."

  20. Chase wasn't sure what bothered him the most. The fact he could see eye to eye with Freyd on this matter or how the system was designed specifically to mess him up. And now he had to change the way he played, just when he'd learned to get used to it- great. "Tsk, I'll figure a way to do my own thing.", he groaned and ran right towards the group, watching them try to lunge at the boy with stabs and slashes.

Chase DBP Default.pngHe weaved between them all, spinning on his heels and doing what best acrobatics he could to dodge their attacks one after the other, before he planted his foot in the ground and slashed upwards at the final bandit, taking him out in a single hit. If he couldn't just spam his AoE attacks, he'd leave that much to Freyd. He could make sure to obliterate targets one by one in the meantime, at the very least. "How come you're still fine. You can do your shit normally.", he pointed out and gave him a glance as he slid over next to him, cocking an eyebrow curiously. How did he weasel around it again?

  21. There was little for blue to say when he was hit with more programmer mumbo jumbo. Alkor thought it would bore him to tears, and bore him to tears it actually did. He yawned and wiped a tear from his face while the blonde kept on going, sighing and giving a small nod. He woke back up as soon as NIGHT approached and his partner threw some shade on him. "H-Hey hey hey hey hey!", he growled slightly and slid his menu open, turning it to the two.

Chase DBP Silent Guilty.png"Look at this- 820 HP. I used to have a ton of it, I almost had 1800 HP, this is literally a tiny amount. My whole armor set relied on Vampiric Defense and my Battle Healing, so the higher my level, the higher the survivability I have. But now I had to change that, my armor is a lot weaker so I had to compensate with the little skill points I have, my energy is much less and sword arts have these stupid ass cooldowns, and I even had to pick between damage and accuracy. I'm literally leagues weaker, it's not that my feelings are hurt, I just want to know I can't die without noticing, monsters had way too much damage, this is like... Literally the start of Tier 2 in terms of how things were, I got slaughtered.", he began frantically trying to explain his position, beads of sweat having formed all over his head as he exchanged glances between the two with a disgruntled expression. "Th-This just feels wrong...", he grumbled lowly and slumped forwards, letting his arms hang and exhaling deeply. Chase felt as annoyed about this as he did tired, and that was a lot of both. Way to start sounding like a grandfather and going 'back in my day...' anytime now.

The boy turned to NIGHT with the same frown, furrowing his brows and inspecting her appearance. All seemed the same, thankfully. "Say, tell me you remember something. Anything from the boss fight. We killed the last Horrors and then what?". There was a huge memory gap for him, so he hoped it really was just him and nobody else. He wanted to know there was at least some reason everyone was here, the way they were.

  22. He seemed to have jumbled up his wording or something when trying to explain his point. "No, that's- I'm going to the frontlines. Only when the raid is up. Then I'm going back to my friends. I won't stick around more than I have to, I'm bad with people.", he sighed and simmered down again, until Lessa mentioned the story that he'd already heard once. But this time, from a different perspective. It wasn't from the one being swallowed up before everyone's eyes; this time, it was the opposite.

Chase DBP Eyebrow.png"You mean Alkor? He's the one that Hydra or something ate up. We've quested now lately, went fishing too. Does he know you're still here? You're best friends, so you can meet up, right?", he asked her with a small smile, hopeful that he hadn't misunderstood and who Lessa was talking about was a completely different person. Although it would be very worrysome if whatever that glitch had taken place more than once in a floor raid. And then came the shouts of two from further into the bar, getting a glare from Chase before he turned back to Lessa. "... Yeah. All my past days have been tougher now lately. We're trapped together but still working against one another or something like that.", the blue boy tried to go deep with the conversation but didn't feel it too much, so he shrugged and perked up only when he saw their meals come. His stomach did growl too, so... liked it or not, food was food, and he was going to have some.

  23. Chase had little to say. The game seemed to have become much more brutal (or at least made Freyd's attacks look like so), and it decided to switch his weapon up to whatever... that was. "I guess now we pick a god and pray until we're out alive.", he huffed and tried to use Galaxy Destroyer again, annoyed at the lack of a sword art triggering. What the fuck was wrong now?

Chase DBP Glare Nervous.pngAh... cooldowns. Not only skills, but also sword arts too. Who even thought up of this garbage- his inner ramblings had gotten started and there was absolutely nothing that could shut them down now. "God damn this stupid ass system, fine, I'll use the other stupid ass move I've got.", he groaned and instead attacked with Cyclone, hitting three out of four- the usual. The annoying part was that except for the one affected by his holy enhancement on top of the attack, noone suffered more than around half their health. Still standing, tall, strong and proud or what have you. "Piss off, what's up with this shit? Why are my attacks so weak now?", Chase dropped his head slightly, casually dodging the attacks of the three remaining bandits.

  24. And then came all the nerd talk from Alkor. 'Nerd' was a funny way to put it seeing as Chase was trapped in here too, but it really felt like science that he was supposed to get; and he wasn't. All the special terminologies and whatnot that made no sense. "Levels aren't the same, and neither is my health. You were a low level, but my health was dropped to below half of what it used to be- and there's EXP and SP, when there used to be just EXP for professions... I don't get any of this, I absolutely hate it.", he hissed with the same lack of awareness that he had starting out, keeping his hand on top of his sword's hilt all the time.

Chase DBP Glare Nervous.png"And everyone is creepy. I don't like it.", he let out another complaint, looking around at the city that was hustling and bustling as though it were a real life one. No longer were NPCs locked in their shops, behind counters or stalls, but now they moved in a way that with Chase's disregard of cursors for the most part, it was impossible to tell them apart from actual players. "Wh-Why are they even greeting us when we don't know a single one...", the bluehead's complaints kept on coming and coming, with no end to the barrage. Without noticing, even his stance had gotten more defensive, almost as though ready to start whacking whoever approached any closer to the duo. "You told NIGHT where to come get us? And 'y dos she tipe lik ths'?", he tried throwing out a joke that seemed more like bashing her (on accident), and managed to only make things more awkward for himself when his intent was to relieve some stress.

  25. With messages coming in left and right, Chase groaned and put both hands to his head, letting out a tired sigh and even pulling on his hair a little. "F-Fuck off, why is everyone waking up now... What the hell did we even wake up from? How long were we out- god damn it.", his ramblings stopped as he went to read both Alkor's and NIGHT's messages, not sending anything to Alkor and opting only for the rogue- the black haired one.

ChaseR: I seriously don't have a single clue.
ChaseR: Me and Alkor are meeting at the 26th. Some stupid Bazaar, I don't know what it looks like
    ChaseR: Come.

There was little to be done, let alone said past that. He made sure to don his armor and sword once more, moving forwards and going straight for the teleporter. At least the path from his home all the way to the teleporter was the same, and the settlement didn't seem different any. If it was, there wasn't something he could just spot right away. So that left the new floor, hopefully, and nothing else was different. Off to find out.

Chase DBP Oops.pngStepping on the teleporter, the familiar blue light glowed around the male and completely encompassed him before he teleported to the twenty sixth, appearing and standing still, as though turned a statue somewhere during the trip. "What the everloving fuck.", he fired another f-bomb, blinking and staying with wide eyes as he stepped off the teleporter and looked around with a hand right on his sword. His instincts were to draw it just like when he'd started; that's just how overwhelmed he was with all of these changes having taken place out of nowhere. Aincrad didn't even have bicycles, let alone airships. And the town itself was massive, glorious and beautiful, the streets hustling and bustling. He moved about and tried to get used to the basic layout, feeling his heart race. Literally shocked, and culturally too. It didn't take much looking around before he ended up finding the Bazaar, silent and with no clue what to say. Throughout all the people, it wasn't hard to tell Alkor apart. Although he seemed different, after seeing this town everything really did. He approached him, tapped his shoulder and gave a choked "H-Hey" before going quiet again. "What has happened to Aincrad???" was the only question he posed before starting to look around again, completely dumb founded. So this is what humans felt like when they first discovered fire, huh?
