[F29-EV] The Final Stand | <<Fatal Error ACT: 2>>
Rencesvals replied to Plot Master's topic in Intermediate Floors
Holding up a mangled metal pretzel, eyes wide and brows fully furrowed, Ren couldn't understand how it could possibly have been a sword. Twisted in and out of itself, the once-polished gleam was now pitted and badly corroded, battered like a gaggle of ogres had used it as an improvised soccer ball. "What did you do to this thing?! Spongebob its squarepants?" The heavyset player before him shrugged - an impressive feat from within that much full plate - the armor not looking like it had fared much better. Lining the improvised smithy walls, themselves a palisade of false hope for -
Stepping back to protect himself from Freyd's gout of ash and fire, Ren rushed back in the moment a new opening presented itself. Seizing on his partners' initial successes, he found the weak points painted for his attention and hammered them hard. Ravana's burning form crackled and hissed as the frostborne nature of his own weapon delivered contrast and pain all at once. Blow after blow, the demon gave ground, roused from his initial stagger, but unable to capitalize of his renewed awareness. "He's literally cracking. Hit him hard and we might have him." Every shatterpoint they inf

Ren's eyes were already captivated by the gaggle of undulating she-demons dancing around before them, the pack of them frolicking like infernal nymphs around the smoldering embers of a recently doused fire. One of them grabbed the veena from him in her passing, laugh turning more sinister as she tossed it into the pit, instantly restoring its flame. "Way to go, chuckles." Jeeves shook his head, pulling down his goggles as the boss opened his eyes and drew his weapons before turning in their direction. "Well, you woke him up. Seems only fair you should also be first to mess him up, no?

[F29-EV] The Final Stand | <<Fatal Error ACT: 2>>

Considerable effort had gone into scrounging and scavenging enough material to cobble together some semblance of a smithy - with no insult intended to value footwear provisioners. Rencesvals - Ren to his friends - had suggested it to Hirru and others charged with protection of the frontlines beachhead in Ilridge shortly after his arrival. He, Foyle and Jeeves were the only three agents of O&I known to be on this god-forsaken floor, the rest having been dispatched to other levels better suited to their varied skills and durability. As always, the division was stretched thin. They’d wa -
Rencesvals provides to Freyd: Memento Mori | T4 Demonic Weapon (Katana) | AA | Freeze I | Holy II Fusion ID: 246830 An ethereal blade forged from shattered celestial fragments left behind by Persistence's noble sacrifice, the katana barely seems to exist, like an echo of something that was and yet refuses oblivion's draw. Its shimmering ghostly surface bears a hint of reflexively blinking blue haze, forming and melting into ice crystals clinging to condensation's precipice. Bleeding along the foggy edge, it is as if Fate herself were shedding tears and mourning her departure, trapping

Ren gives Foyle: Perdition's Reach | T4 Demonic Weapon (Projectile) | AA | Burn I | Static I | Fallen I Fusion ID: 246596 A recurving longbow made of well-oiled ash, stained to a matte, dull grey finish that crackles with infernal wrath. Arrows fired from it strike like red lightning, trailing black ash and smoke in their wake. Source: https://www.sao-rpg.com/topic/39172-rencesvals-evaluations/?do=findComment&comment=697950

Fortune favoured them, this time around, catching the Nemean napping was a bonus. Despite its great size, the tawny creature was surprisingly oblivious to their approach. Knowing his armor would give them away, like last time, Ren and Freyd swooped in from above with a long jump, catching it completely unaware. Rimefrost and shadow merged and seared the savannah with a blast of cold that shattered half the great cat's whiskers before it even know what was happening. Tumbling clear, Ren readied his stand for a counter, but the mob was too disoriented to manage more than a random paw swi

Sulfur and brimstone might have been more merciful than the virtual artillery barrage raining down on their target, its health bar plummeting in response. Every time it freed itself from one stinging shaft another would pierce its scales and pin it back down again. Freyd had kept the head busy, which mostly left its whip-like tail to him. Playing whack-a-mole with it, Ren cheered gleefully each time his hammer found its mark, until the entire mob expired abruptly. "What? Oh. Is it dead already? I was expecting... I don't know... more?" Shaking loose the last of the sand from h

Thrown from his feet when the mob first burst forth, Ren scrambled to regain his stance and seek an opportunity to enter the fray. The captain had injured it when it unleashed its initial ambush, tearing a nasty spiral gash along its length. "Bet that'll make it hard to rest any part of its body on the hot sand." Parrying a tail lash, Ren felt more than saw Foyle's shot piece the haze and tear into tightly knit scales, leaving a lateral tornado-like funnel in its wake. Recognizing his opportunity, his hammer flailed with smith's precision, driving red and black fletching in deeper. "So

"I was really hoping for a more temperate biome, but I suppose we deal with what we're dealt." Notably more upbeat since their last adventure, Ren sported his fancy new warhammer with pride. Forged with great care, and substantial thanks to the patron who'd given him most of the ultra-rare materials required, Ren considered it a symbol of changing times. Hefting its massive adamant head over his shoulder with surprising ease, it had taken a lot of searching to give up on the classical portrayal of knightly valor that had been his original inspiration. This more 'World of Warcraft' and less

Durendal plunged through the blackened heart, pinning the writing angel's twisted form to the stone surface beneath, his body weight added to keep it grappled. Jeeves and Foyle piled on in the same way, each grabbing a mangled wing and wrestling it to the ground. "Do it, captain! We've got the rest of this covered. Literally." Try as it might, the field boss couldn't shake their collective weight in its weakened state. Watching as the black knight strode around the beaten mob, blade tip hovering a fraction of an inch above the stone as if gauging its depth in the leadup to executio

Their journey through the sludge swamps was remarkably uneventful. Either the shambler hordes had been culled recently, or they were all busy convening elsewhere. Maybe they had unionized and were demanding better working conditions? Wouldn't that be a lark? When the troop finally reached their destination, it had a similar look and feel to the monastery Freyd had once called home. "I always wondered if they re-used set pieces when they built out this floor. The layout is mirrored, but otherwise appears identical. Which means, he'll be over..." A winged warrior wreathed in wrat

Returning to Yogan village, the group shared tales and perspectives, learning from each other's strengths and weakness and how best to pair them off for the sake of the unit. Ren felt pre-occupied, the thought of traveling to the thirteenth floor weighing him down. The motifs of that particular level most closely matched his own interest and studies, yet terrified him at the same time for the failure they represented. "Something on your mind?" Freyd had slipped back and away from the other two, matching pace with the paladin as they walked back to the portal. "Just... I never qu

Between the lot of them, none expected Ren to be the one to land the first blow, especially not by leaping high like a madman on parcour, bouncing and rounding off the local canyon walls to reach the target. "What the actual f..." Even Jeeves marveled as the frequently cumbersome knight slammed his blade into the bird, sending it spiraling to ground where it crashed with a resounding impact. The crater alone was impressive. Unlike his embarrassing performance on five, this place was more familiar. Specifically, it was rich in ore, having drawn the smith to visit on more than one occ

Grateful for his captain's help and reassurance, Ren stilled his rebellious innards and rushed forward. Bowling over the exposed shark, he sent its gritty rubber-like form crashing into a nearby rock formation, overloading its already struggling sensory perceptions and leaving the monster staggered and dazed. "Hey! No fair," Jeeves called out, laughing. "You're foiling my cunning plan!" Returning a wry grin, Ren's expression turned as quickly as the mob had and he promptly hurled his breakfast all over the desert floor. "Points for effort, I guess," Freyd added, patting him on

From shivers to death sweats, Ren struggled to manage the shift of extremes. Staggering from rock to sandy soils with literally nothing in between, he stumbled and grabbed ground to to stabilize his sense. "Hurk... what... what was that?! I just... need a minute to make sure down is down again." Green might typically compliment purple, but he doubted that was the case when it was the colour his face turned. Speaking of turning, his breakfast was having serious digestive maelstrom issues. "I just... Freyd?" Eyes searching for answers, they met only icy cold orbs glaring back at h

"Something must be wrong. My stats just went all wonky on me. Anyone else seeing this?" "That's the level suppression system," Jeeves replied, all while recalibrating his wrist-mounted bolter. "We're going to game the system a bit and optimize our yield. Smart. No sense blowing a ton of time and effort on marginal results. Good thinking, boss." Freyd merely grinned, glad to see their resident tinkerer join the conversation for a change. "Oh. That's a thing? Did I miss a memo? The shop's been so busy lately, plus all the panic over those mirror mobs..." "It's fine,
