pt-pp-f10 Like Ice <<SOTW: Leeching Nightmare>>

Ascalon withdrew his weapon from the woman's back. She collapsed backward, falling to the ground - frozen. His gaze shifted, away from Abellio and Lysette and down to the woman. Did he paralyze her or something? The man squatted down, resting his weapon against his shoulder. "I'm not gonna kill her, if that's what you're worried about. We just need to have a chat," Ascalon said, keeping his eyes trained on the woman. "About what?" Abellio's voice surprised him. It was a more hostile than he intended. Could he chalk it up to the adrenaline? "Don't worry about it," came Ascalon's -

Okay. Okay Okay Okay. Warren was here, thank fuck. Abellio didn’t know exactly what that meant, but the way the man was talking, he couldn’t help but respect the confidence. Abellio rushed back into the chaos, watching as the Shamblers swarmed his friend. His knee jerk reaction was to help. He stopped, turning on his heels and reaching for a sword he didn’t actually have. Oh. Right. And it didn’t matter anyway. Abellio saw that first explosion. The wave of fire that washed over the Shamblers, killing several in a single hit. Abellio blinked. When had Warren learned to do th -
"GERONIMO!" Abellio's voice rang out over the beach as he vaulted over the side of the airship railing and landed onto the sands with a thud. He had been a bit worried. Oscar trusted him with the crown jewel of this entire party. Abellio was a legendary fuck-up so he was concerned that he might not be able to place the giant crustacean just so. But his worries had been unfounded and despite never piloting an airship or operating a winch, he pulled it off. So his presence on deck was unneeded. Time to get down. As he small cloud of sand settled on his sandaled feet, he noticed a dude

Leeching Nightmare Such a nice moment. Abellio had been over the moon. His heart had been full to bursting, threatening to thunder out of his chest. A moment where two souls aligned, burning hot and on a collision course with one another. He still wasn’t sure. But he couldn’t get in his own way. Not with her. He would allow himself one indulgence. Force himself not to listen to the thoughts buzzing through his own head. Abellio would crash back down to earth the moment that dagger was thrown. All that heat evaporated. All the affection sapped away. Abellio, for his entire

Abellio's focus had quickly devolved from logistics to simply doing whatever he could to keep the Shamblers at bay. Which would have been far easier if he had a weapon. He'd taken to just beating down the closest thing to him, but for every Shambler he ran the ones with, another two took its place. And it was a numbers game. And in sheer volume of bodies and levels, they had Abellio beat. It was as if the music had attracted them all here. And it had. The denizens of the floor heard STY/L's music, seemingly to every corner. Every corner. Every denizen. Even those who should be l -
"I FOUND A HAMMER!" Abellio held his prize up over his head as he was hunched over a toolbox. The airship had not made it through the Teleport Platform completely unscathed. The winches that were necessary for pulling the crab out of the pot were not in working order. So Abellio had been tinkering with them since they'd moved the ship here. "You don't need a hammer," Lysette said as she adjusted her grip on a bucket of nuts and bolts. "Maybe if I hit it just right..." Abellio twisted his wrist, flourishing the hammer over his head. It slipped from his grip and smacked him right

"You okay?" Lydia seemed lost in thought. So much so that she completely whiffed her attack on the helpless boss. There was a moment of panic that maybe she was realizing what Abellio thought about whatever this was between them. She met his gaze and gave him a sheepish smile that slowly morphed into a smirk. "Yeah! Just uh... thinking about what we're gonna do when this boss is dead," she replied. Abellio blinked. Realization slowly set in and the blood rushed to his cheeks. In an effort to distract himself, Abellio plunged his blade back into Kumatetsu. He barely registered -

Lydia was a hard person to keep up with. And that was saying something considering the fact that Abellio took pride in his own ability to zoom around at breakneck speeds. But even though she was kind of stealing his thunder, he couldn't help but smile. She'd only just started to dip her toes into actually playing the game. Maybe it was her trained grace as a dancer. It was probably her trained grace as a dancer. But even when she was crashing down like a bolt of lightning there was a sort of brutal elegance in the way she moved. It was distracting. Head-turning. Abellio realized as -

Chaos. There was really only one way to describe it. Moments before, STY/L was performing solely for the Raid Team off in the distance. Now they had a veritable mosh pit right in front of them. Abellio had no idea where they came from, but it certainly made his security-slash-pyrotechnical-slash-hype man work that much more demanding. He zoomed around, a red and white blur across the sands. It was about now that he cursed himself for not bringing a weapon. It was so incredibly difficult to deal with the Shamblers efficiently when he was just running hands. So he did the only logical thing -

Was that a meltdown? Or had Abellio gone past the limits of Lydia's patience? It seemed like the latter and bless her, she had the patience of a saint. But she had him at her first question. The details didn't really matter. Abellio was just in his own head. He felt that she was so far above him. And he could continue to feel that way. But she was also so sincere. So direct. And if she wanted to slum it with him - if he made her happy - who was he to deny her? His sour expression returned to neutral, then that smile slowly spread across his face again. He met her gaze, the simple fondness -

She didn’t give him time to pull back. And that was probably the point. She placed herself right up in his space, her presence forcing him to give her all of his attention. Not an easy task. When she posed her question - spoke her challenge - anything Abellio would have said died in his throat. He would have picked his jaw up from the floor, were he not terrified of getting to close to her as he bent over. “Lydia, I -” “I thought I was pretty clear,” Lydia said quickly. “Really gonna keep me waiting?” Abellio’s mouth closed, his jaw clenched. She had to be fucking with him. Ther -

“Hey,” Abellio replied. The night had been long. And it had been full of thoughts that he would have much preferred not to have. They still drummed heavy in his mind, repetitions of inadequacy disguised as cold logic. As immutable fact. But it was hard to give it all any credibility when she was so painfully close. When she looked up at him like that, smiled so softly at him. All at once, those storm clouds parted. Light shone through. He felt more energized, like he hadn’t just gone without sleep for the entire night. He helped Lydia to her feet. His hand lingered at the small of he -

The crazy thing was that despite it all, Abellio still wanted to see her. They had a whole quest chain to do right? That was a good enough reason to remain in her orbit, much as he wanted to fling himself from it. The thoughts were too deep. The feelings too. He couldn’t understand why she always came when he asked. What could she possibly see in him? The message was typed and sent before he even realized what he was doing. Panic settled in. He wanted to call it back, frantically scrambling through his messages looking for a recall option. Her reply came before he’d even really started -
Simply confounding. Abellio wasn’t the type to get bogged down by details. The hows and whys were better left to people with a proven pedigree of measured, well-thought plans. Like Warren. Or Oscar. He more or less knew his limits. Abellio was at his best when you simply pointed him in a direction and told him that thing. He didn’t stay inside of his own head. He was out in the world, inflicting everyone with his boundless energy. So lying awake that night, staring up at the ceiling with a disquieted mind was uncomfortable in many ways. He took stock of the facts. Over and over.
