[PP/F1] The Second Lesson, Is Also Free

Recommended Posts

The no loot drop was discouraging for the girl. There wasn’t a way to comfort her other than tell her that there would be a drop sooner or later. “Yes but soon you’ll get something, Vie. Don’t sweat it. You already have majority of the drops you need. One more and you can put this quest behind you.” He did his best to encourage her. It was just one more. He remembered all those times he had to chant that in his head or he would of just quit. Quitting was an option. Just not a good one when you needed to progress. He didn’t want her to fall into that category or else she may fall into a rut.

His eyes looked over at Haine hoping she had reassuring words for Vie as well. He smiled back at Vie and clapped for her. “Keep it up and we can have a meal afterwards. We can celebrate at our home with a large meal.”

It was a series of trial and error, with Vie missing and succeeding. It was a long grind, Haine would have liked to step in and help but she respected the redhead and the grind. She clapped from the side lines like a make shift cheerleader. The familiars joined her in stride, waving their arms and kicking their legs. They squeaked incoherently and Miska hopped into her arms. She giggled and shot Vie a thumbs up. "You're almost there, Vi Vi! Keep at it." The nickname slipped out and she put a hand over her mouth. "Uhhh, can I call you that? Vi Vi?" She planted a kiss on the cub's soft fur and turned to Kiluia.

Pingu was boring holes into the other familiar in jealousy. Akin to a child, she patted her owner's pant leg to demand coddling. Haine rolled her eyes. "Jelly much?" The penguin was too jealous for her own good sometimes.

Hearing both the motivation of food and the strange nickname that had been created out of thin air, she sort of blushed... Wondering why she needed a name while her username had already been pretty short, she figured it might be best to just accept it. She looks to both the flailing familiars and the rather enthusiastic girl and smiles, "Sure... I suppose" is said after the short time of thought. She was honestly not entirely sure how to feel about the nickname, she was too focused on how fast her heart was beating and how caffeinated she had felt... As if being filled with lots of adrenaline she needed to rid herself of yet didn't know how to go about exactly.

After a few moments of simple breathing exercises to calm herself down, she feels shivers down her spine as if something had been staring at her all this time. A boar comes out of the dark forest running at her without any other thought. At the last second, the redhead jumps out of his field of vision behind him only to quickly boost herself towards the mob with the tip of her sword pointed at it. This attack fails too, perhaps she was too single-minded or zoned in to the thing at hand, but she completely fails at what she tried to do, her rapier's point instead becoming embedded into the ground.

Seeing Vie struggle was upsetting. Disheartening to him really. He stood up and walked over to the boar and her, but not enough to get involved. He didn’t want to yell anymore. “If you don’t get the drop from this boar, you can borrow my trinket. It’ll help you get the drop” He was willing to offer any assistance he could for his new found friend. Hand twitched slightly as he wanted to smash the boar into the ground and into pure dust. The urge was resisted, and he found himself backing up a bit.

Body straightened up and he held his trinket in his left hand. It was currently on stand by for Vie if the battle here did not yield what she needed. “We should also have an item tailored for you as well, Vie. It should help you for a lot of quests to gain items.” This was coming from an aspiring treasure hunter so he hope this would advice would be helpful.

She could sense Vie's frustration. The loot was lackluster, just her luck. Haine could feel for the woman, the cardinal was seldom forgiving. It was as if someone were watching above, pulling the strings as they surveyed Aincrad's people. There was the slightest glimmer of hope, and then rubbish. Haine scrunched her nose as she remembered the countless times she'd unearthed a treasure chest, only for it to be a false call. Curse their luck.

She scratched her head. "Keep goin' Vie. You're almost there!" She put a finger to her chin in thought. "Next time you should invest in a trinket. I think it would help?" She shrugged. She looked at the sky. It was blue. Wait, is this deja vu? Spacing out brought forth weird trains of thought. It wouldn't be long till their quest was finished, but for now she stood there killing time as Vie's personal cheerleader.

Kiluia's willingness to help her when she felt down in the dumps about her inability to properly attack the beast that had previously snuck up on her cheered her up. The idea that there were so many people that were behind her allowed her to stand her ground in front of the boar. As Haine cheered for her, she felt motivated to continue. She felt like there was power in her weapon- that she was powerful. A wave of confidence washes through her as the boar readies up and ran at her once more head-first. Vie dodges the attack, allowing the creature to run past her without consequences. That was until the redhead quickly ran once more at the boar, this time aiming her blade towards the beast's head in the typical X pattern. Hitting it and leaving two gashes onto its forehead and whisking past it. She was proud of what she was able to accomplish. Just... a little further to go.

The next strike that Vie would perform would hopefully be the last. If it wasn’t, his trinket would help her get a higher probability chance of receiving the item that was needed. “I highly recommend at least looking to see if our guild can offer products that have the ability to increase the RNG change of obtaining the items. Of course, RNG can be sweet and rude.” He noted as he watched her fluid actions in motion putting the boar in its tracks. He was excited. The adrenaline pumped in his veins as the girl trade and dodged the attack.

He clapped his hands next and looked at Vie. “You almost got it!  You just have a little more to go” He commented on her ability to persevere. It was difficult for her despite being low level. Leaving it up to RNG was annoying to him. It was why he became a treasure hunter.

Haine felt bad for Vie. The woman was trying her best, slaying boar after boar in pursuit of some sweet award. It was a grind, alright, with just a little bit of loot per drop. Her back was killing her. She stretched and felt it crack, a satisfied smile on her face. She plopped back down on the grass and crossed her legs. Surveying the battlefield, she hummed. There were a couple pebbles beside her and she reached for them. She attempted to juggle and huffed as a rock hit her square on the forehead.

"Ow."

She frowned and tossed them aside. Her cub settled into her lap and stretched. "Bout' time for that afternoon lap, Mees?" She pat his soft white fur. She pulled her knees to her chest and looked at Vie. "Lookin' good! Just think about the sweet bacon." She fluffed the grass. Her mouth was salivating at the imagery of bacon when she saw that boar.

Not giving her any sort of time to breathe and contemplate the next move, the boar continues his constant attacks despite the blood loss. It trudged over towards her, flailed around his tusks aimlessly on its hind legs, just trying to do any sort of damage whatsoever to the one what seemed invincible... This results in a nasty gash on her shin, as it collapsed onto its back. Meanwhile Vie listens to the sidelines that speak of both RNG, and the bluenette attempting to entertain herself with various things that are about. Too preoccupied with what they had to say and appreciating the advice, the attack that she attempted to throw fell through, making her land flat on her face beside the thrashing boar. Her leg felt terribly hurt despite the small amount of DMG dealt to her... 'You cannot underestimate mobs in distress,' she thought while groaning in a bit of pain.

Watching the battle between the two, he wondered if the boar was in survival mode or if it had any real thought process that it was going to die. Vie had been doing this death dance between the boar and herself for quite awhile. She was slowly wearing down again. The battle raged on for her. A testament for her to see if she would continue down the path of adventuring or if she would be defeated both physically and mentally. He couldn’t intercept he mobs attack while she was fighting without killing it quickly. He stared quietly at it clearly irritated that he didn’t learn any aggro abilities. It didn’t fit his build he was going for and he would have to contemplate on whether redesigning his abilities or forgoing the situation and let others take care of the situation.

“Its not over yet, Vie. You still have us so don’t give up.” He tried to urge her with encouraging words to stay positive despite missing.

"God damn."

She stroked her imaginary beard as Vie all but raged. The battle was strenuous and she looked weary trying to make ends meet. Haine scratched her head and called out. "Y' sure you're fine? Wanna take a rest or something?" She cocked her head. The woman was very close to attaining her goal, however the bluenette felt concerned by how the woman kept pushing. She was not having this shit and made it pretty clear that she'd get her mats. Haine mentally applauded Vie's resolve. If the woman were in her shoes, she would be rage quitting and scarfing down sandwiches to calm down.

She was thinking about a delectable sandwich as she thought. "This is not gouda..." She wasn't even aware that she'd slipped out a pun in the midst of her reverie. Again, Haine was skilled with making lame puns on the run. Conscious or not, a pun was bound to slip out in due time.

The boar flipped back onto its four feet, burrowing its tusks into the girl's torso and creating two decently sized holes into her side. Unfortunately it didn't look for the blade that was slightly propped up in the direction of its attack, the more it squirmed the deeper it would impale itself... Finally it crystalized and bursted into millions of shards that flew away. She approaches the two that sit in the shade and mess around with their familiars. Hands by her sides, she holds the last boar tusk material in her palms victoriously- kneeling beside them clearly winded from all the action. Her clothes torn, wounded, and out of breath, "F-Finally..." She murmured. Her head darted up and a smile grew on her face as she looked at the two glad that they had accompanied her, "T-Thanks for encouraging me while I was feeling down out there... Sorry about the--" Her body practically ragdolls, in a semi-conscious state she manages to mutter, "Tell the small penguin- that she's adorable.." while on her back beside the couple as her eyelids fluttered shut.

The clash finally came to an end for the red headed lass. He clapped his hands for her when he noticed the item drop for her. It was her final piece that she needed to get. “Congrats. You did your best and now here we are” It was an arduous journey for her but it paid off. He did not envy her. These quests were moot for him since he didn’t know they existed. The good part was that Vie got it done in good timing. Kil wish he had done this when he was a lower level but no time to complain. Amer eyes looked at the penguin and he patted her head. “She understands really well but doesn’t answer back other than a few noises. She’ll give hugs and gifts though if she is in the mood.” The gifts were questionable. They were either stolen or they were out in the wilderness. It just depended on where they were.

Finally! Vie had secured the last bit to her quest, the last material which signified her triumph. Haine pumped her fist. "You did it Vi Vi!" She sat up and crossed her legs. She had seen the woman struggle so much to obtain these items, it was a job well done and her efforts paid off. Haine remembered the quest, grueling over the mats as she complained about how long it took. She remembered her dear friend Elyth and their adventures out on the open field, she missed her dear friend. She accepted that they had drifted apart over the years. Wherever she was and whatever she was doing, Haine wished her the best and kept those memories close.

She pushed herself off the ground and dusted her garb. She fixed her attention to the penguin, who was curious about the woman. "Yup, that's Ping!" She came close to the bird and pat her head. "She's friendly, I promise."

She opens her eyes back up, the overdramatic ragdolling not effective against the two. Glad that both Kiluia and Haine tell her that she's both doing her best and doing enough- these words of affirmation helped her internal self get over the anger she once felt from the extreme rounds of unnecessary amounts of combat. She pats the small gift-giving penguin on the head and returns to standing on her feet. "Alright, now all there's left to do is turn in the quest I suppose," she spoke as she realized the sun starting to set and the city lights in the distance beginning to twinkle along with the sunset's rays. A smile grew on her face, "Gosh this universe is rather remarkable, isn't it?" She appreciated how much hard work and effort the creators had put into it. Staring at the ever-altering landscape, the girl wondered whether or not the two had confessed under similar circumstances... She breaks the slightly awkward silence, "Have you two ever gone stargazing together?"

Stargazing? He hadn’t done stargazing with her yet. It would be a wonderful moment if that would happen soon. He smiled slightly as they began their trip back. “No… I haven’t been stargazing yet. We have had plenty of dates trying to get our familiars on the winter floor and enjoying hot cocoa.” He looked at her. He reached over and patted her shoulder. “Glad you stuck it out. We’ll need you soon” He walked through the forest and looked at Vie. “What about you? Have you had a special someone to stare at the stars with?”

He side glanced at Haine thinking about where there would be a good place to go star gazing with her. Perhaps it would be floor 22. There was a lake and plenty of things to do there especially for the dynamic duo. He’d just have to ask her out sometime to get to that point. “Haine. Any place you wanna go to after this is done?”

Haine clasped her hands together and looked up at the night sky. Stars speckled the the dark background, providing a soft light. The moon was as beautiful as ever and if she stared long enough, it felt like she was floating in space. That was a sight to get lost in. When Vie mentioned the sky, she had been lost in thought looking at it. She could spot a constellation as cute as ever if she peered hard enough. She returned to earth and blinked, adjusting her focus. "Bleh, that's weird." She mused. "But yeah, kinda beautiful..." She looked at Kiluia. "Take me to see the stars sometime, love." She fluttered her eyes in a mock pout and returned her attention to the red head before her. She would save her from the mushiness.

"Yeah, tell us Vi Vi. Anybody special?" She tilted her head in curiosity. They were heading for the marker to complete the quest. Almost done! It had been a whole day ordeal and she planned to treat the lady for some well deserved grub.

The stars twinkle above the three, their shimmering absolutely stunning to the red haired girl, "That sounds really nice," She comments, yearning for a companion of her own to spend time with like that though she knew it wouldn't come anytime soon... It would take a while to form that sort of relationship. As the group begins to exit the forest, the vast plains and twinkling city lights becoming more visible and the trees becoming fewer...

The question arisen seemed inevitable yet too sudden at the same time, the first person to come to mind was the blonde woman she cared for dearly despite her feelings seemingly not yet mutual. "I... don't have anyone like that quite yet, sorry," she spoke in a slightly sad voice as they crossed the fields and neared the spot where the quest would end.

After a while of traveling and chattering away, they returned to the town of beginnings. 'Just... a little more and I'll be out of their hair,' she internalized her lingering feeling that she had been bothersome to the two despite their insistence that it wasn't, a little sad that their journey was coming to an end so fast. She hadn't yet asked what sort of shampoo Haine used, or Kiluia's favorite animal... 'I guess I'll just have to wait for another opportunity,' she thought.

Hearing that she did not have anyone yet was a little sad but it was okay. Time would allow her to hopefully find someone who was suited for her. The city came into view and the lights were pretty this time of night. He hadn’t realized they had been out for that long. The quest was unusually long. Next time he would offer his trinket to anyone who was doing this quest. This seemed god awful.

He opened up his HUD and added Vie to his friends list. “Hey, I hope you accept the friend invite. If you need anything, just hit us up.” It was for her to use anytime especially since they were guild mates. His hand reached down and squeezed Haine’s. It was time for them to depart. “Be safe, okay?”  He offered her a smile once more before looking at the teleport gate to head back home.

"Don't worry! It comes when you least expect it." She clasped her hands together. There was truth behind her words on her end, at least. The quest was grueling and she was glad it was almost over. On the way back, she drifted in tangents of thoughts. What would they eat for dinner? She thought of a grill, but the day had went by longer than they thought and she was too tired to cook. Ramen, cake... Her mouth watered. They had neared the location on the quest marker and it was their cue to prepare to end the quest.

"Ah, I almost forgot!" She opened her HUD and sent Vie a friend request. "It's been real, Vie! We're glad to have you." She stretched and yawned, fatigue washing over her. She felt a little drowsy standing around all day. She had done little physical exertion save for walking about.
