Koko Village

Floor 8

The village was closer to the swamp than any other on the floor. Being this close to the dungeon, places to get out of the swamp if you fell were further and fewer between. This town was a safe zone to retreat to... if you could make it that far. The mobs hidden in the murky waters weren't particularly difficult, but they were of an unknowable quantity. The green water was opaque from the surface, and as such you wouldn't be able to see an add coming. According to the information that Baldur had gotten about this floor from the brokers, a party of adventurers had tried to explore the bottom of the floor, but after two or three had their names crossed out in the Black Iron Palace, no one spent any more time than required inside the swamp.

This far down from the top meant that what little light came in from the sides of the floor was filtered out by innumerable branches and trees. It gave the city a haunting, ethereal beauty. Baldur couldn't decided which was worse, having to fight his fear of heights up at the top of the trees on the platforms and rope bridges, or being this close to the eerie waters which seemed to whisper at dark things lurking just out of reach.

The known fear vs the unknown.

"Alright, is everyone resupplied?"

Baldur looked around at the group of people he would earnestly refer to as his friends. Fighting together did that as few other things could. The only thing that would really solidify that was a life or death struggle, and while each fight was technically that, they had pushed through so well that the fights had hardly been challenging. Hopefully that wouldn't change too much ahead. In this part of the floor, the bridges and platforms were lower. This made it easier to get out of the swamp if you fell in, but it also meant that some things could come out of it, though the information said that the <<Swamp Stalkers>> would only emerge if someone entered that mess. The things to watch out for were the <<Bog Striders>> and the <<Stone Sentinels>>.

Once everyone had affirmed their readiness, Baldur turned and headed out to the first bridge. It was a windy mess maybe a dozen feet above the swampy floor bottom, and would occasionally bet replaced by the raised root of one of the massive trees which towered above them. When he looked up, he could see a messy maze of platforms and bridges. They had come down from one to get to the village, but now they took their way along the floor.

One of these large roots they walked along now came down to a large... well, he couldn't quite call it a hill, it was more like a mound, but it was fairly large, perhaps being fifty feet in diameter as it rose out of the murk and was relatively flat. Sparse patches of dead looking grass sprouted out of the ground in patches, while cattails sprouted out from the water. As the small party walked out onto the mound, the water near the edge began to stir much in the way Baldur had seen an Alligator do. One of the small patches of grass and mud began to move, but as it got closer to the island revealed that there was something more a work. The top that they had seen was apparently formed over a large, hideous creature with the smell of a dead animal. The top of its carapace had held the patch of grass and mud they had seen, but beneath that were three malevolent red eyes and a maw of dozens upon dozens of dagger like teeth. As it rose fully from the bog, two giant hands with massive claw-like fingers were raised.

"Tyger! Taunt it! Crozeph, you're up first, then Raeyliff, Oikawa, Ariel, and then me."

Baldur quickly made for the center of the island and took a quick look around. There were dozens of patches like the one this had been, but none of them seemed perturbed yet.

"Let's do this one just like the others, but draw him away from the edge!"

Compared to the previous location where they fought the Forest Stalkers, Crozeph liked this place more "it's a bit ironic that a player called crow is a little afraid of heights" he said. Crozeph has been thinking of resupplying but it seems the battle has begun before he could do something something "a little rest is good enough" he said before charging into battle. Crozeph drew his sword quickly as usual, he has a good enough speed on some things and hopefully he could be fast enough to last a hit on the Bog Strider and emerged from the swamp. Crozeph pointed his sword downward now, aiming to cut off something or at least leave a deep wound on the Bog Strider. "arm, aim for the arm Crozeph" he thought. Crozeph quickly spun around and stabbed the side of the Bog Strider but he wasn't finished yet "this one is going to hurt" Crozeph twisted the sword and pushed it upward wounding the arm of the Bog Strider terribly making it lose its footing a little. Crozeph jumped back after attacking and swung his sword downward taking off the green slime that held on it "what do these things eat?" he asked.

( OOC~ HP: 26/26 DMG: 7 DMG MIT: 2 EVA: 2 ACC: 2 (Basically same stats as before but 2 more HP :P)

Oikawa watched as the group descended closer to the murky green swamp. The walked along an enormous root which led to what one would think was a hill. Words were scarce at describing this mound of dirt and patches of what he assumed was grass. The group moved along the top of the unidentifiable mass and continued along there way until something along the waters murky edge began to stir.

Baldur had the group proceed cautiously as he watched  a muddy patch of grass and earth make its way to their little island. Suddenly a creature with a trifecta of menacing red eyes and rows of shark like teeth rose from the bog and approached the players.

Tyger reacted first. Activating her HOWL, she would opt to keep the creatures attention as the rest of the party attacked. Crozeph swooped in after her taunt and dealt a critical blow to the Bog Strider. Jumping back, he waited for Raeyliff to follow up, but the player must've have been scared witless as he stood there and gaped at the creature. Not wanting to waste time, Oikawa sprang forward and unsheathed his rapier. Gaining momentum, he dodged a swipe at his torso and leaped into the air. Spinning in two full rotations, Oikawa  thrusted his rapier right into the middle of the creatures chest. Sticking his rapier into it, Oikawa had to use the Strider as a springboard to pull the rapier out and move himself back to a safer location. Once safe, he called out to Ariel for a switch.

"You're move Crowned Lion," he said with a smirk.

The finally reached the village that was at the closest to the swamp, Ariel and Kimba got closer to the edges "still pitch black...I wonder what kind of fish are in there. I hope there are more bridges ahead...I don't want to touch this disgusting water even if I wear these boots" complained Ariel while Kimba let out a yawn.

Then she heard baldur's question and answered simply with a  "yeah" while getting back to the group. She looked up and saw the intertwined bridges above "We really walked a long way down didn't we?" she asked herself while walking. She then started following Baldur over the bridge and near a large mound they came to a stop, apparently a mob wanted to welcome them in the usual manner. She unsheathed her black rapier waiting for an opportunity after the tiger howled and the crow landed another successful critical, it was Oikawa's turn and Ariel was surprised to see him execute a move similar to her previous one, then calling her by her 'nickname'.

While grinning she dashed towards mob after shouting: "Got it.Its good to see you're learning little by little." While running she searched where she should hit, The head appeared to be covered by some sort of shell and the face could be protected by the mobs huge arms.."Arms?*she bared her teeth at the thought that just crossed her mind* Why not..." Her trajectory appeared to be like the last time, a front collision one and jumping over it in the last moment but when she was in striking range she made a feint and slided to the right under the mobs gigantic arms, thrusting her rapier in the same time at the mob's armpit. She smirked seeing that the place she struck started bleeding. She ended up next to Oikawa and then shouted at Baldur: "Your turn team leader!" then with a lower voice she said to Oikawa. "brings back memories doesn't it?"

[Raeyliff deals 4 damage]

Raeyliff looked at the next monster that approached them and sighed. "Ah...it's really disgusting...do I really have to attack that?" he asked jokingly. He looked at the team as they started hitting the monster, each putting a scratch or slash on him from their slashing. Soon, it was his turn to fight, so he stood up straight and pulled out his battle-axe. "Can't kill you, but I can hurt you bad enough that you're closer to death." he said, before charging. He slashed at its side and was able to successfully make contact before jumping back as it howled in pain and then glared at him with a look of pure hatred. He shrugged. "Meh, as long as you die, I'm cool. Switch!" he said, before going back to his original place.

((At the start of this post, the Bog Strider should have 9HP. 13/36 HP at the end of Ariel's post, then -4 from Raeyliff's DMG.))

Baldur watched the majority of the fight out of the corner of his blue eyes while he instead focused on making sure there weren't any adds. It appeared to him at this mob may have been a scripted action based on them walking onto the mound rather than aggro radius, but he still kept part of his attention on the other mounds to make sure they didn't begin to move. As he watched his teammates leap in for the attack and switch out one after the other, keeping the mob's AI unable to counter-attack as effectively, Baldur drew his sword to be ready for his turn.

Rushing past Ariel and Raeyliff, Baldur leaped high into the air <<charging>> as he brought his katana down as the mob prepared to attack Tyger. A red streak split the gruesome swamp creature in two before it even had a chance to really  counter-attack them. Landing with a thud and then out of habit taking a half leap back out of arm's reach, Baldur watched as the mob exploded into more shades of green polygons than Baldur had ever seen before. When the look window popped up, Baldur smiled. They were off to a good start.

"A little rough, but well done. We seem to be getting pretty lucky with these critical hits, it's making them go down much faster than I expected."

Taking a moment to give everyone a chance to collect themselves, Baldur slowly sheathed the katana at his side and then gestured for everyone to join him. At the far end of the mound they found themselves on, another root rose out of the murk and led them deeper into the forest. After walking for a while on roots, they came to a section of broken down walkways like they had seen in the village. However, these were dilapidated. Several of the boards were missing, or broken in two and hanging into the murky water.

"Be careful hopping across, I don't know how deep the water is here." He peered ahead as best he could, and another dozen feet down the walkway the planks seemed to be much steadier.

Baldur gestured for Tyger to go first and then for the others to follow and he would bring up the rear as usual. As everyone crossed onto the walkway, Baldur couldn't help but wince every time he heard the creaking sounds of wood, but the boards all seemed to hold as everyone crossed. When the final team member was finally safe to the good section of board, Baldur relaxed a little and made the first hop across from root to board. The footing wasn't as slick with moss as he had expected, and he was able to clear the gap quite easily.

As he landed on the final board of safety, the world suddenly spun. The board gave way and Baldur fell like a rock, shocking himself as he caught the boards and out of pure adrenaline pulled himself out of the water almost as fast as he fell in. With baited breath, Baldur watched the ripples of his splash emanate from where he went in. As the circle of the ripples grew, he found himself frozen, watching the ripples approach one of those tuffs of cattails and grass like what had adorned the head of the previous <<Bog Strider>>. The ripples hit first one, then a second, then a third, then a fourth. Baldur's eyes were wide with fear for several heart-beats, but then nothing happened.

"Whew!" Baldur moaned softly as he slowly stood back up to his feet. "That could have been bad."

As if he had jinxed himself, a creature out of nightmares rose silently up behind him and rammed a wickedly looking short sword through him. Baldur cried out in surprise and fell forward onto the wooden walkway as a <<Swamp Stalker>> glared silently at the group. It seemed to be hovering on the surface of the water, and no action it took made any noise. The dark, barklike skin of its humanoid face almost seemed black except for two, eerie, sickly orange-yellow, pupilless eyes. In the place of hair, it had what looked like weeds and ivy. It wore armor which was faded by rust and had put a patina on the once coppery metal. Disfigured, clawlike hands similar those of the <<Bog Strider>> gripped a pair of jagged short swords.

The creature made no move, and seemed to have an ethereal stillness as it moved towards the group to attack again.

Before Tyger could do anything, or the mob for that matter, the hunting party had already dispatched the gruesome creature with precise coordination. There seemed to be a bit of witty banter going between Oikawa and Ariel, which made her smile behind her shield. She and Baldur would do things like that too, but it was to be expected, considering. However, she couldn't afford to deviate from serious. Anything else could be a personal distraction, or for someone else. The last thing she wanted to do was goof off, or tell a joke, laugh too loud and get the attention of a mob. Then, if they were unprepared, lives could be lost. She took her job seriously, even if most of the time it was howling and making sure the boss attacked her. Or in this case, just stared at her angrily while she kept it's attention for her party to kill it. These circumstances were boring, but at least she wasn't losing any HP.

"Good job guys! I'm starting to feel a bit useless..."

She joked, putting her shield on her back and sheathing her sword. Everyone had their own little moments, so she was sure she'd get hers to. For now, they'd need to move on quickly to cover as much ground as possible before sundown. She passed a glance over the faces of the party, before following Baldur deeper into the swampy marsh. When she was urged to go first, she did so. However, leave it to Baldur to fall into the murky waters and create a ruckus. She stifled a squeak and turned to look behind her, watching Baldur pull himself out of the water with a rush. A few seconds passed, and it seemed as though they were fine, but as soon as Baldur jinxed them, another mob had appeared. She heard Baldur's breath escape him, and her eyes widened as she watched his HP fall a few points. Immediately, she turned around and backtracked, neglecting to warn anyone as she barreled through the line they'd been forming. Pushing everybody aside as she charged forward past the walkway, a growl rose to her throat.

There was no subtle howl. There was no witty sword and shield sound. There was only pure, unadulterated rage as she howled at the Stalker, bringing her sword and shield to match his and keep him locked in combat with her instead of the others.

Crozeph quickly followed as soon as the Swamp Stalker set its eyes on Tyger "keep it busy like that, I'll try hitting it hard" he told her. Crozeph has been feeling a little uneasy after that height from the previous location, at least at this place he can move without the fear of falling off. Crozeph dashed forward, sword behind him aiming for a quick slash and not let his feet bury on the soft ground. As soon as he reached a good distance to hit it he moved his sword upward slashing at its back while its facing Tyger making it wince at his attack. Crozeph rolled away quickly before getting it's attention and keeping his distance enough for any cleaving damage, if it has one "next one!" he said. The Swamp Stalker seem to keep its eyes on the girl for now, that will be a good thing for the others and this one looks to be more stronger than the previous ones they killed.

The group seems to be moving well together. We're taking down these creatures quite easily. Even if it was aided with a bit of luck.

*SPLASH*

Oikawa looked over as Baldur pulled himself from the murk water below them. He muttered something that was inaudible to Oikawa but he figured it was unimportant. Suddenly a creature burst from the swamp. Stabbing their party leader as it rose from the murky depths of the water. Tyger reacted quickly pushing most if not all of the group aside as she rushed to Baldur's aid and let out her most menacing Howl yet.

Crozeph quickly followed up with a nice slash to the creatures back as Tyger still had it's attention. Raeyliff hadn't made move yet but Oikawa knew time was of the essence. So rather than wait, he broke formation and charged after the Stalker. Unsheathing his rapier, he jumped over Tyger and clashed with one off the creatures four arms. Deflecting a blow that sent him to the ground, he quickly rolled out of the landing and sprung forward. Dodging a straight slash attack by the Stalker, Oikawa jumped of the tip of the monsters sword and sunk his rapier right into the creatures arm socket. Ripping the blade upwards, he left a red crescent on the creatures shoulder, marking where his attack had landed.

Dashing back towards the group, he winked at Ariel and replied " Yes! Just like old times...except this time I'm stronger!"

After he finished the mob Baldur said to the group something that didn't settle very well with her: "A little rough, but well done. We seem to be getting pretty lucky with these critical hits, it's making them go down much faster than I expected."

When he said (the underlined part) Ariel narrowed her eyes and as they continued their journey she decided to respond to his statement: "Lucky you say*hmph*.... I have to disagree on that and say that I'm a bit disappointed. As a fellow warrior I thought you would believe that one makes its own 'fate'/luck by study and training hard enough so that he doesn't have to resort to such terms as 'Luck' to explain his success or fail in battle. Guess I thought wrong though,  take what I said as an advice from a senpai if you want." she said while they were walking behind Tyger and surveys the others as well "This advice extend to all of you." She didn't meant to criticize him..Ariel just spoke her mind as always and hoped they didn't get offended. As she fought mostly solo, she couldn't accept term like good or bad luck overrule the teaching that she received from her father and the hardship she went to reach her current state.

As the group was beginning to walk over of pretty shabby  bridges, Ariel picked Kimba up and was a little concern about their combined weight. But she didn't get to make that many steps as she heard a breaking sound behind her, followed by the whole bridge shaking a little. She turned around and saw Baldur nearly ending up in the water below them, she then gently throws Kimba behind on the platform. She then turns towards Baldur to help him, but sees that he got stabbed: "What the.." she wanted to shout but instead unsheathed her rapier and jumped out of a furious Tyger's way. Then she heard her friend release a howl, not by means of shield and sword like before but an actual howl.

After hearing Kimba roar after Tyger to confirm that she was OK, Ariel dashed towards the new opponent. She shot a glance at Baldur's HP bar. The stab looked bad but in fact it didn't to that much damage and she let out a sigh of relief while jumping on a root nearby the mob and while midair she gave Tyger a nod to assure her that he'll be fine. Once at the root Ariel glared at the caped mob and looked for where she should strike and once the target place was set she leaped towards it and stabbed it on its left side in the section where it would be between the ribcage and the pelvis of a person of that height. She smiled when her hit landed and managed to land on another root behind it, secretly thanking her acrobatics skill. Then she responded to Oikawa with a grin: "I see that, but you can say that I've improved a little as well

Baldur tried to get up from the ground, but with a blade in each hand, Baldur had to spend more time trying to avoid attacks. The saya kept getting in the way of his legs and as he pressed down on one of the boards, it started to give way and his booted feet slipped on the moss. He watched helplessly as Tyger came charging down the walkway, her <<Howl>> taking on new meaning as she jumped in the way of the mob to protect him. He then watched, rather proudly, as the rest of his team literally leaped to his defense, landing impressive blow after impressive blow. As they created distance and kept the mob at bay from attacking him, Baldur reached Raeyliff who seemed to be keeping an eye in case any further adds came up, a role Baldur usually took himself being the last in the attack order, but couldn't because he was too busy not getting skewered.

"Thanks." He said to Raeyliff as he stood and drew his katana.

Baldur watched as the gruesome mob turned his attention to Tyger, the two blades flickering at her and trying to fight off the others, but when the attack chain broke for a moment, and neither he nor Raeyliff were ready to attack, the mob's weapons glowed with a menacing red light and both blades slashed at Tyger in an X pattern. She was ready for it, however, and thanks to her blocking skills, she was able to deflect the mobs attack with such force that he saw its HP bar flicker slightly.

"Get'em, Tyger!" Baldur cried out proudly as he readied himself to rejoin the battle.

The stalker probably didn't smell as horrid as their first mob, but with the adrenaline pumping through her veins, and the blood roaring in her ears blocked out most of her senses. All that mattered was keeping this creature off of her friends, and Baldur. She'd already failed in her duties, since someone's HP had dropped. So, of course, she could take out all this anger on the stalker as it readied to attack her once more. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Ariel nodding to her, and Baldur behind her even still. As long as he was alright, she'd have a reason to keep fighting as hard as she was. Icarus had caught up and made his way beside the lion familiar.

"Aaargh!"

Tyger intercepted the dual swords with her shield, and she hung there for a moment struggling against the power. However, she gritted her teeth and pushed forward, scratching the beast with her enchanted shield. The Stalker made eyes at Oikawa, and Tyger snarled once more, slamming her shield against a tree as she walked angrily towards the mob again.

"You. Do. Not. Touch. ANY. Of. Them."

She snarled through gritted teeth, hoping the howl had done it's job.

"Don't worry about critting. Go all out, I've got all his attention right now."

She said as cooly and calmly as she could at the moment. Her body shook with adrenaline and rage, with a mixture of fear. She could hear Baldur yelling at her, but she couldn't hear him very well

Crozeph was perched on a root when he heard another howl from Tyger "she's getting too much attention" he thought. Crozeph ran on the root and saw that it leads to the Swamp Stalker enough to hit it. Crozeph quickly ran and kept his eyes on the mob, hoping to hit it and not let her efforts go to waste. Crozeph jumped as soon as he reached the end of the root and aimed for the nape of the Swamp Stalker "I'm here!" he yelled at it. Crozeph was about to brought the strike when it turned to face him "damn it, I lost sight of the target" he said. Crozeph didn't plan on hitting it in the face but he was already dropping down on the Stalker and he can't stop it.

Crozeph slashed down and tried hitting the Swamp Stalker but it raised one of its sword deflecting his sword and failing to land a successful blow. Crozeph spiraled in the air and saw that the Stalker's sword is about to hit him. "Must dodge..." Crozeph tried keeping his feet the first to land, the Stalker's sword as was a bit slower than him giving him chance to step on it and push himself away. Crozeph gained a few feet enough to prevent himself from getting attacked. He landed on the large root again and almost fell to the swamp.

Raeyliff nodded after Crozeph had failed to attack it and charged with his battle-axe. "My turn!" he yelled, as he swung to make contact. Miss...he thought angrily, as he ran forward and was behind the swamp stalker. Ewwwww....he thought, as he looked at it. He was a safe distance away, but he couldn't really move around much. He looked at Oikawa and nodded. "Go for it." he said, before trying to find something to distract the monster in some way. He'd been unactive for quite a while unknowingly, and was angry at himself for being that way. He didn't think that he was THAT slow of a person as to not be able to catch up with a fight like this. Letting out a sigh, he kept looking in search of a stone to be able to hit the monster.

The <<Swamp Stalker>> proved to be a formidable opponent. It was the first creature to keep over 25% of it's health after our first round of attacks. This MoB is quite the troublemaker. It managed to tank 3 attacks from our group. I have to make sure my attack connects so we can continue to drop it's HP. The stalker then turned it's attention to him as if reading his mind. Luckily, Tyger noticed the situation and let another Howl escape her.

Gaining the creatures attention, Tyger proved that her tanking was definitely a force to be reckoned with. Crozeph and Raeyliff quickly went through with their attacks. However, both seemed to be off with their strikes. The MoB avoided taking damage from either of them and Oikawa knew he must get they're confidence going once more. Oikawa dashed along the root he was standing on. Approaching the mound that separated himself and the creature, he increased his speed and jumped forward. Turning his body parallel to the ground, he begin to spin and thrust his rapier at the same time. His blade glowed blue as he neared the striking point. However, his attack was intercepted by one of the creatures four arms. Effectively knocking him to the ground and thus continuing their streak of failed attack attempts.

Growling at his failed attempt, Oikawa jumped back to retreat behind and cover Tyger. Then he looked towards Ariel and nodded. Signifying her move.

Ariel looked around and saw the others attack the mob, this guy was proving to be more difficult than the last one "Good" she whispered while showing a grin and dashing directly towards the mob. As expected her hit landed once again even this was a harder one."Not exactly bullseye, but I'll take it over missing" she said after passing the mob and landing on the first root. This time she struck the mob in the back while it was busy facing Oikawa. She then looked towards him and said "Thanks for the distraction."

Baldur tried to leap into the middle of the fray, his katana an azure arc through the murky haze of the swamp, but the creature seemed to have an incredible ability to fight multiple people with it's multiple weapons. It was far better at dual wielding than anyone he had ever seen. Baldur had been trained to fight with a katana and a wakizashi, but the style he had learned mostly used the off hand as a defensive weapon. He couldn't imagine wielding two weapons to hold off multiple opponents. Baldur's friends and comrades threw themselves one after the other but after being rebuffed several times, Ariel was able to use her agility to sneak in and land a blow.

"Let's pull it back further onto the bridge where the footing is better, maybe that'll help us with better footing!"

Baldur kept an eye out on the swamp around them, concerned that all of their noise and leaping about had summoned any more mobs, but he didn't see any.

Tyger gritted her teeth and watched as one by one the team around her attempted to hit the stalker. Most were misses, and Tyger only hoped that she was doing her job well enough. If she wasn't, would the stalker be even harder to hit? At least it was stationary, and relatively preoccupied at the moment with Tyger yelling and banging her shield on everything she could get her hands on. Still, that wouldn't help them get closer to their goal of defeating the monster, and the game itself.

"I'm going to back it up towards the bridge more, so we'll have more room!"

Tyger shouted, holding her curved sword above her head as she charged up an attack. She pushed the shield into the belly of the stalker and pushed him back slowly, heaving her body forward with each step. The stalker fought back, but when it readied itself to strike at Tyger, the blow missed, and Tyger slammed her sword into the stalker's side. It let out no noise of pain, which was surprising and eerie. However, Tyger watched with satisfaction as the HP bar drifted that much closer to the red. The hate she'd produced increased, and the team was still safe. And, she got to hit things with the sharp end of her sword. Today was a good day.
