"Felt. I can't even count the number of times I must have taken down this mob, or its alternate. It was practically a favorite pastime, for a while." Floor four had long felt familiar and welcoming to him, though Freyd couldn't say why. Maybe it was the harsh serenity of the place that appealed, or the fact that his friend Haine had her home here too. "I thought long and hard about making my home here, once, but was surprised by how many others already do. Something about this level seems to attract people, like a warm cozy hearth in a storm." Peering through shadow revealed the locatio

Lydia didn't like it. The only thing that kept her from turning and bolting - while dragging Abellio along kicking and screaming - was the frustrating fact that Oscar was completely at ease. That and the fact that the woman had not, as of yet, tried to stick a dagger between anyone's ribs. Still, she didn't try to make friends. And she would have her questions answered once they were not in mixed company. Every time she thought that she had Oscar's measure, he wound up surprising her. Normally, that was a good thing. Now? She didn't know. But what she did know was that she was brought her

Oscar ripped himself out of his unconscious darkness. Like ripping off a band aid. It was sudden, jarring, overwhelming. The sun was too bright. The smell and taste of the salt air turned his stomach. The sound of waves, of gulls, thundered in his ears. He felt himself floating, rising and falling like a buoy as he laid outstretched upon the surface of the ocean. His head pounded, the taste of bile searing in his throat. He could recall nothing of how he got here. Not that he had the ability to make that synaptic connect in the first place. His body contradicted itself. Ached, but re

Oscar reaffirmed that she wouldn't die. "You know..." Mari began as she pulled the scarf completely off her neck. "A few years ago, I'd have said I don't care if I did - but now?" Mari's scarf disappeared into her inventory. "Now, I have people to live for. Things I care about." She said as she fiddled with the ring on her finger. Mari didn't go further, Oscar already knew where her mentality was at a few years ago - and there was no using in beating a dead horse. "Do you know anyone who has attempted it recently?" Mari asked. Freyd seemed to be under the impression it'd be rather difficu

ph Moved to 4th floor The two took no longer than 15 minutes to shift to the 4th floor. Mari was very thankful she had chosen to keep her mug. It warmed her hands as they trudged through the snow. Mari didn't exactly have a lot of winter appropriate attire, ironic considering she lived on this floor. But most time she was here, was either in her home or workshop - and both were heated. So in lieu of a winter coat Mari simply had her plague treated leather jacket draped over her shoulders. "After this...remind me to try and find someone to buy me decent winter clothing." Mari s

"Yeah. Cardinal tries to trip you up by scaling down player power on the weaker bosses to keep them relevant. Trick is to go for the sword arts without rank. They bypass the suppression." As if to demonstrate, Freyd pivoted on the spot, planting his foot forward as his charged his blade and unleashing the art in a wide arc of blue-black energy that swept the field, smashing every bug it touched, queen included. The rest of the swarm froze, droning in suddenly stillness as their matriarch was summarily executed and half their skin reduced to shattered pixels in an instant. "See?"

Lydia had actually arrived long before Abellio did. Upon seeing the orange cursor, her instinctive response was to keep to the shadows. Remain in stealth as she tried to get her bearings, acquire the necessary understanding. She owed Oscar much, but helping out a killer seemed to be a bridge too far. It wasn't until she saw how relaxed Oscar was around the woman, witnessed Abellio's rather casual reaction to it, that she made the decision to reveal herself. "Abellio," she said in a scolding tone, appearing out of thin air with a light laugh. "You can't just call random women orange just b

It was generally worth Abellio's while to come when Oscar called. Even if it hadn't been, Abellio would have showed up anyway. Simple tit for tat. He felt more confident nowadays. Competent. And he was a little honored that Oscar would go out of his way to call him to a Field Boss of all things. It made him feel like all the work he'd been putting in was finally bearing fruit. That being said, couldn't it have happened somewhere that wasn't so hot? Abellio wasn't overly bothered by it, but desert to active volcano was crazy work. He arrived at the designated spot in short order, before Lydia h

Oscar nodded along. It was good that Mari had her support system, all working to push her in the right direction. But Oscar, of course, had confidence enough to share. He'd be hard pressed to find a woman with as much grit and determination as she did. It was something that he knew quite intimately. "You won't die," Oscar said. "We'll get you kitted out. And even if we didn't, you have this in the bag." Oscar did two things in quick succession. First, he opened his menu. As he navigated through the windows, he quickly dispatched another group of slugs. "It's my super extra special cu

"I uh...." She watched as he downed his coffee, the hiss escaping from his lips and the way his hand twitched did not go unnoticed. "I'm not sure that's...how you relax." Mari said with a tilt of her head. Did he enjoy it that hot? She wasn't sure. "I thought you liked coffee but now I'm not entirely sure." She said with an amused snort. Things seemed a little tense between the two, not entirely in a bad sense - more in a way of they were trying to see where each other stood with each other. Which, perhaps was a testament to how they did still care. Freyd was still her family. The

"No more tired than any other day. I take my breaks where I can find or make them, like this." A quick salute with his mug saw him down half the scalding contents, a clenched hissing behind his teeth as if he was somehow enjoying the brisk burning torture. Freyd wasn't entirely sure where things stood between them in the aftermath of the Lancaster debacle. Right now he didn't care, just being happy to spend time with his friend for the sake of offering her improved odds in her coming battle with Redemption. No one had ever faced the mob, to his knowledge. If anyone had ever tried, they'd

Seeing the familiar salt and pepper sprinkled face approach filled Mari with a mixture of relief and trepidation. Things had been a little... terse lately but part of this outing was to reconcile, and to reassure both Freyd, and herself that she was still willing to do redemption. No man in her life, and in her bed, would change that determination and that resolve. If she failed it, then she'd cross that bridge when she came to it. But it was important for her to at least try. "Freyd!" Mari offered with a small smile. She did enjoy his company, and still considered him family. "It's good

Not a far jaunt from his shop in Urbus, Freyd was either up early or just never went to bed. It was tough to tell which, since the man never seemed to rest. No wonder he drank so much coffee. Or was that just another bit of theatre for the masses? Truth was he actually drank it rather rarely, often saved for fireside chats or an occasional visit with Marv in the Town of Beginnings. Those opportunities had grown sparse of late. After the shit show that had developed at Mari's home, he felt he owed it to her to repeat the ritual, maybe even make it one of their signature things. She

She found the next one near a collapsed fence line, its stubby legs kicking through weeds as it sniffed for roots. A little bigger than the first. A little louder. Miyuki said nothing. There was no tension now no hesitation. Her breath came steady, her steps silent. She drew her sword in one smooth motion, the curved edge catching a glint of light that flashed like a warning. The boarlet turned just in time to squeal. Too late. She closed the gap in a blink, the system’s Sword Art recognizing her motion before even she did. A sharp violet gleam raced along her blade’s

Mari yawned wide and rubbed her eyes. It was early...almost too damn early. She had messaged Freyd to help her grab some items to prepare for Redemption, and boy howdy did he want her prepared. They were going to do a gauntlet of the lower leveled bosses. He, in not so many words pretty much said, don't worry I got this. And now; at that ass-crack of dawn - Mari was standing in the fields of the second floor. She could hear faint buzzing from nearby hives. The first boss of many. It felt like such a long time ago since Mari last fought the wasp queen. Another time, another life - almost.

Oscar didn't seem too phased by her admission of ...well..murder Rather, he seemed genuinely thrilled about her shot at redemption. He was grinning ear to ear, barely able to contain the ecstatic joy radiating from him. It clung to him like...like....well like the sweat that currently hung heavily from both their bodies, impossible to ignore and impossible to hide. "Redemption, you say? You're finally going through with it?" "Yeh, Freyd and others- Kinda made me realize it was about time I tried." Mari said as she attempted to wipe her brow, an effort in futility. "I'm...worried I m
