A thought just occurred to me, Why didn't RCT just perform a sever maintenance and force log everyone out? Surely someone could of hackked into the SAO servers and created a GM account to do this or am I being a numpty and missing something vital? (I know Kayaba was a genius but still)

Unless the required information is literally linked to Kayaba's information center which if hacked into (Assuming he can hack on a world class level, regarding the fact he created the nerve gear, created the code that allows it to work. I think this might be well within his bounds.) And would have prevented a way for at least 3+ years to crack and decode.
And if they hadn't exited the game in 3 years their bodies simply would have given out and they would have died regardless of completing the game or not. They were 2 and a half years in and their bodies were practically skeletons.
