actually without proper measurements of depth it's difficult to determine, but generally speaking a cored-pineapple structure would not survive the water pressure at the bottom of the sea long enough for any kind of organism to use as shelter. additionally, sea sponges do not require shelter, as they rely on maintaining a constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food and oxygen and to remove wastes.
