Just a quick question. If I get a good quality piece of armor, does that have any damage mitigation effects or is it just for show at that point?

Thank you. So if I get an armor skill, then do I get some damage mitigation for that item? Even though it has no slots?

Yes, as long as it is the same type of armor as the skill.
A rank 1 heavy armor skill with a good quality heavy armor will give you 5 mitigation for example simply because you have the armor on. Rank 2 would give you 15.
Do note that having two pieces of heavy armor does not add up, it's still going to be 5 mitigation.
