Oh, Swine Bajesus had entered the scene. Awesome, this would break the tension no problem.
"That's Swine Bajesus, rumored to be the spawn of the infamous Swine Jesus that almost killed me awhile back," Bahr said wistfully and he put both hands on the back of his head. "Oh yeah, that happened. One more hit and I woulda been a goner. Seriously the craziest fight of my life."
Eventually, Swine Bajesus grew tired and retreated into Bahr's pocket. "According to its information, it has some sort of ailment that prevents it from growing, so it will stay tiny like this forever. Which is good. Y'know, keeps him portable." Bahr chuckled a bit at his own stupid joke, Swine Bajesus sticking its head out once again to look upon its owner with scorn. "Right, right, sorry Swine Bajesus. I don't mean to make fun of your condition like that," he said as he stifled laughs, poking its head to push it back into his coat.

Without skipping a beat, Bahr activated his Disguise Skill, cloaking him and making him appear invisible. It would only last for a moment, but it appeared to work. The fish blubbered about before launching forward with its razor sharp point, barely missing Bahr and landing on the far side of the boat. Disguise faded, but it had given Bahr enough time to charge up one of his new Sword Skills - Cyclone. He spun on his heal and swing the blade violently around himself in a circular pattern, carving into the fish four times in a row with ease. Unfortunately, he had also poked a hole in the bottom of the boat.
"You idiot!" he heard Pete's voice call out behind him. He groaned in response.
"What is it now, old man!?" Bahr bellowed, "Can't you see I'm busy beating up your stupid fish?" He was really starting to grow tired of the old fellow.

Oof. Bahr could relate to that, only on a much more personal level. He had always wondered what it would be like to be inside of any of the various MMOs he had played. There had just never been stakes so high, or consequences so real. The image of his friend being struck by his blade and dematerializing right before his eyes replayed through his mind invasively, the edges of his lips once more curling downward into a frown.
"Yeah, man, I get what you mean," he sighed solemnly, feeling guilty now for having even brought it up. "Should be just through here."
Bahr was pretty happy that the next clearing supposedly held the mobs they were looking for, because he was already getting really tired of the forest. There were bizarre creepy-crawlies every direction he looked, and each rustling sound that pervaded through the vegetation made his hair stand straight. Not that he could admit that to Dagger. His job today was as a fearless bodyguard.

Bahr knew it was a mistake to lead her on, but he felt like he had to humor her at least a little bit since he had invited her out on an adventure to such a romantic venue. She accepted his offer graciously, putting it in her hair and smiling at Bahr. As rays of sunlight peeked through the clouds and illuminated her beaming face, Bahr could see in a beauty in her that he had never noticed before pulling him in. A certain, Kit-exclusive, childlike sort of... Nope. No, it was still too weird. There was no way Bahr could do this. She was giving him all the signs that she was into this. What if she wanted to kiss later!?
Breaking the tension, Swine Bajesus emerged from his inner coat pocket, peeking his head out from behind the coat's folds and waving itself down. Apparently things had gotten pretty hot for the little guy inside the jacket. No surprise, given how worked up Bahr was getting over all of this.SpoilerID: 119185

Suddenly, the line snapped against the tension of a bite, and Pete unexpectedly leaned back harshly against its pull.
"Oh this is a good one!" Pete exclaimed, straining against the force of whatever was on the other end of the line.
"If this is another boot, Pete, I swear to God!" Bahr yelled back excitedly.
"This ain't a boot, boy! Git ready!" he yelled as a swordfish leaped out of the water and into the boat.
"Woah! You weren't kidding!"
"Kill it!"
"What? No, you kill it! You're the fishing expert!"
"Idiot! If I could kill it, why would I have you come along? For the 'fun' of this little adventure we've been having!?"
The swordfish flopped around menacingly.

Swordfish appeared! -
In fact, Pete reminded Bahr of his father in more ways than that. They were both stern and harsh with their words, never hesitating to belittle anyone with lesser experience than their own. Arguing with them was impossible because they would stick to their guns no matter how ridiculous their contention was. In their mind, they were right, even when they knew they were wrong. Bahr wondered just how much of these traits had rubbed off on him, and whether or not his children would have to endure the same mental gymnastics from him that he had put up with when it came to his father. Then again, he still loved his dad, and knew that he had always meant the best and truly cared for his children. When it really came down to it, he would always help them in times of need, no matter what the situation. Bahr cast a glance over to Pete, who was still intently focused on his line. He wondered if Pete shared this trait as well.
Oh crap, was he growing attached to Pete?

Silence, silence, and more silence. It was becoming unbearable. But if he said anything, he'd get a loud earful from Pete about how he needed to be patient if he wanted to fish, which would ironically scare all of the fish away, meaning they would need to wait longer. This was easily the most boring quest he had been on so far.
It reminded him of when he was a child, and his father had taken him ice fishing. It was dreadfully cold, even with the little hut they had set up on the ice over the hole they drilled. They sat there in silence for hours before they got a bite. And just when something was on the other end of the line, it snapped, and they were left with nothing. They sat again in silence for several more hours before his father finally said it was time to go home. From sun up to sun down, they had spent the entire day in the cold, in silence, doing nothing but looking at a bobber. Bahr had hated fishing ever since.

As Bahr's map panel populated in front of him, he quickly took note of the location. "I know where this is. Yeah, I'll be sure to check it out. Obviously, you already know where my shop is." Bahr grinned nervously as he closed the map, knowing that his shop wasn't exactly in the best neighborhood. It wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was something. His goal when he purchased the location was to simply have a functional place to do business and keep costs low. He had succeeded, but... Well, nobody really wanted to go there. Kit had actually been his only customer so far!
Off to his side, Bahr noticed another pair of flowers that looked suspiciously close to the ones he had plucked before. He picked them both up, and to his pleasure found that neither despawned. He stuck one into his inventory and shakily held out the other for Kit. "Uh... For you..."SpoilerID: 119180

They sat in silence for quite awhile, essentially ignoring each others' presence, hoping the endeavor would be over soon. It was one thing for Bahr to have to talk to an NPC to get the quest details or something like that, but to actually be trapped on a boat with one until the quest was completed was an entirely new challenge. And the quest that required such a feat of patience? Why, of course it involved the most irritable, rude, inconsiderate old curmudgeon! Bahr rolled his eyes as Pete muttered something to himself under his breath. He could have argued, but all the commotion would just make it take longer for the fish to bite.
Instead, he just sat in silence, waiting for the next bite and hoping it was a good one. If Pete fished up another boot, he'd have a difficult time not simply hopping out of the boat and swimming to the shore to get away from the old butthole.

"I thought you were some sort of grandmaster fisherman, dude!" Bahr exclaimed.
"I am, 'dude!'" the fisherman retorted in an embarrassed tone, hastily unhooking the boot.
"What's up with the boot, then, Pete!?" Bahr snapped angrily.
"Sometimes that happens, it can't be helped!" Pete stammered, casting the line out again.
"Aaauuughhh! I need to get this quest done quickly and they send me out here with this amateur!" Bahr cried into the air, clutching his head in frustration.
"What, you think you could do better?" the fisherman retorted coldly.
"I don't even have the Skill, man!"
"Then shut up and let me work, numbskull!"
Bahr was seriously going to murder this man. Could you drown an NPC? Was this the sort of NPC that would respawn? If he killed it, then came back later after it respawned, would it remember him? Would being an orange player make it difficult to get into town? These were all thoughts that flashed through Bahr's head as he struggled to grapple with the frustrating implications of the quest.

"Yeah, I got something!" Bahr yelled back to Kit. His eyes glimmered as he thought of the possibilities these two flowers might open up for him. Some might think of flowers as an odd choice of material for making clothing or armor, but Bahr knew better. If there was anything he had learned so far, it was that the strangest of materials gave crafted items the best perks. He held the tangerine and red flowers out for Kit to examine, his eyes flickering around the garden looking for more.
"It seems that only some of these flowers are actually for crafting - other ones will despawn shortly after you pluck them," he informed her, remembering the first flower he had picked. "If we can find more flowers identical to these, we can walk outta here with a barrel's worth of mats." It was weird, but Bahr was actually salivating at the thought. Seriously, that was really weird. Even he knew it was weird. Perhaps some form of Pavlovian response to the aroma of the flowers?SpoilerID: 119176

"I'm sorry, did you mean 'bobber?'" Bahr inquired coyly.
"That's what I said, the boober. Clean the gunk out of your ears, youngin'!" the old man replied sternly. Bahr couldn't help but to start laughing. "Don't laugh at me you disrespectful flaccid little [expletive]! I've been doing this my entire life, I'm the expert here!" That just made Bahr laugh even harder.
Suddenly, the tension on the line became really intense. They both diverted their focus to the line as Ol' Pete struggled to fish it up. Using a technique where he reeled in the line while moving the pole forward, then yanking it back, then letting the pole go forward again as he continued to reel in the line, the object slowly came closer and closer to the surface. Their eyes glimmered with anticipation as the line finished getting pulled in to reveal... a boot. Seriously, it was just a boot.SpoilerID: 119175

"So you want to learn how to fish, do ya?" the old man inquired with an oddly serious tone.
"Not really," Bahr admitted, "I kinda just want to complete the quest so I can level u-"
"YOU CAN'T HANDLE FISHING!"
"Uhh, wha-"
"YOU DON'T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!"
"Look dude, I just want to complete the que-"
"If you think you have what it takes, you're gonna need to prove it. Hop aboard my ship!"
Ship was a strong word. It was just a regular boat, probably only big enough for the two of them. Not really wanting to deal with an annoying argument against a computer generated AI element, Bahr simply sighed and got in. Moments later, Ol' Pete had taken them out to the middle of the lake.
"It's all in the back, you see," Ol' Pete said as he cast his line. The bobbing element splooshed against the water some distance away. "Then you just gotta keep your eye on the boober." -

➥ HEALS 40 HPBahr's eye twitched as he approached the biggest lake in the fields of Floor One, his patience reaching its maximum with the seemingly endless string of deliveries that had been designed to teach him the basics of the game. Perhaps it was his fault for spending two years hanging out before doing anything. Perhaps it was his fault for completing other, more challenging quests before these. Or perhaps, it was just super annoying to have his hand held through menial tasks such as these. He appraoched Ol' Pete, literally tossing the fishing pole at the old coot. To Bahr's surprise, the man caught it without even looking while simultaneously pulling a big fish out of the water. Epic. Perhaps this was an NPC worth listening to.
Bahr sat on the ground as he waited patiently for the fisherman to secure his catch, taking it off of the hook and stashing it in his inventory. The fish had left a gooey oil on the Ol' Pete's hand. Gross. -
Bahr's expression contorted into one of the most awkward masks of discomfort you ever would have seen, awkwardly patting Kit's back as she embraced him. He usually wasn't the kind for physical contact, and he had no idea their friendship had progressed into hugging territory. Wait, she didn't think this was a date, did she!?
"... Uh, yeah. It's great," he stammered shakily as he slithered away from the hug. "Let's go check it out."
Walking through the garden, it was becoming evident to Bahr how something like this could be misconstrued as a date. The atmosphere was absolutely magical, with sweet aromas wafting about and beautiful colors no matter what direction you looked. He only hoped she hadn't taken it the wrong way. It wasn't that he couldn't see them developing some sort of relationship like that, it was just... Well, he was looking for someone. It seemed disrespectful to get involved with someone else, considering how they had left it.

Bahr extended his hand to meet with that of Dagger's shaking it briefly before listening to what the man had to say. He nodded his head thoughtfully as he accepted the quest in the panel that had populated in front of him.
"So let me get this straight. You want to do this quest with me, but you want me to do all of the work?" The edges of his lips curled downward into a frown, before he adopted a cheesy grin and slapped Dagger's shoulder playfully. "I'm just messing around! I'd be happy to help." He opened his map panel before continuing. "Looks like it's over this way."
As they wandered along, Bahr couldn't help but notice how quiet his companion was. "So, how's a guy like you end up in SAO anyways? You had to have known that the major attraction was combat, right?" His voice was steady and not accusatory, Bahr was genuinely curious. -
"If we go together, we have a chance, right Bahr?"
"Ehh not really. But I wouldn't worry about it," he said nonchalantly, his eyes flickering down the path from whence they had just come. The mysterious orange player had disappeared. "Something tells me we've got a ringer in our corner." With that, he promptly jumpied over the ledge of the hill, riding down the other side on his feet until he had made it into the meadow. Call it dumb luck, but somehow the creature hadn't noticed him yet. He sighed as he viewed its information, seeing that he was too low a level to make out basic stats like HP or DMG. This was going to be a hell of a party. He looked back over his shoulder and waved for the others to join him, signaling that he was safe - for now, at least. Once the fight started, there was no telling what would happen. -

How long had he spent on the first floor, completely unaware that a resource like this existed? Had he known ahead of time, he would have spent a lot more time here. With the materials available, he would be able to craft for days without requiring a refill! He hastily opened up his menu and navigated to the message panel, shooting a message to Kityuisa.

It was unlikely she would be around a place like this for any other reason. After all, who willingly comes to a frozen wasteland for no reason? Certainly not Bahr. He sneezed and shivered, mentally cursing himself for not having brought warmer equipment. "Well, I'm headed there myself. Maybe we should team up for this one?" As he smiled again, a thick snot droplet descended gracefully from his nasal cavity, and Bahr forcefully inhaled through his nose to schlorp it back up. "Seriously, I'm gonna die out here. Ah, what a glorious day. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and Bahr was on his way to spend more of his hard-earned col instead of enjoying it. One could say that lately, Bahr had been dedicated to spending money as opposed to earning it. He considered changing his shop for awhile to only accept col, but decided against it. After all, he'd run out of materials in a matter of days if he did that. No, it would be best for him if he kept things the way they were. Hopefully people could make sure to pay him in col occasionally, too.
As he walked into Dagger's shop, his eyes instantly fell upon the item of his desire; the Custom Ambition Tool. While it didn't make crafting easier, per se, it did improve the amount of EXP he got from each craft. And if he leveled up, crafting would get easier. So, in a roundabout way, this item would facilitate the successful creation of superior crafts over the long run.
"Hey there, Dagger. Here for the Custom Ambition Tool. Sorry for coming and leaving so quickly, but I gotta split and get to work on this armor. Come pay me a visit if you need new gear!"
- 840 col
And with that, he was gone.
And then he came back.
"Wow, can't believe I almost forgot this. I needed to sell this off as junk, too. Hopefully you can put it to use somehow."

To top it off, it had the exact same buffs he aimed to acquire for himself. With a sigh, he packaged the armor and sent a message to Kit.QuoteTo: @Kityuisa

Bahr was surprised to see Kit here, considering her low level. At the same time, he wasn't surprised at all. Her fiery temperament wasn't something to be trifled with. If she wanted to participate against the event boss, you'd better be damn sure she would find a way to participate against the event boss.
"Sure, we can party up," he mused, "I just better not have to save your keister every time you get a monster miffed."
"Well, would you look at that."
Seemingly out of nowhere, countless amphibious creatures materialized all around them. Grotesque caricatures of the original, their disgusting heads and appendages superimposed onto minuscule bodies that seemed like nothing more than an afterthought. They clumsily marched toward the party in a sickly manner, wheezing through their revolting gills as mysterious liquids oozed from their every orifice. It was truly a bizarre sight to behold. But when the going gets weird, the weird turn professional.
Right away, the strange looking knight with the blue hair and a hammer clanked their weapon against their shield, the resulting clang drawing the attention of all of the mobs within the viscinity. A perfect diversion, and a brave one, too. After all, who is the happier man? He who has braved the storm of life and lived, or he who has stayed securely on shore and merely existed?
Bahr wasn't going to be one to sit back and allow this nameless knight to steal all the thunder, even though it appeared they were the one generating it. His weapon swelled with a tangerine glow and began to hum, the pitch of the sound it emitted steadily rising until the attack was unleashed. He dashed forward and unleashed his Cyclone, spinning on his heel to spin like a top with his weapon outstretched, the thick slab of metal carving through the first Rain Minion multiple times in rapid succession. It seemed not to pay him any mind, though, still fixated on the hammer-wielding knight.

"Oh, right. The name's Bahr. Nice to meet you, er, again," he said as they made their way into the clearing. Right on cue, several Nepents materialized right before their eyes. The creature's looked impressive, but Bahr knew better. This was a quest for newbies, and while Bahr was also technically a newbie, he knew these creatures didn't stand much of a chance. He marched forward confidently, removing his massive weapon from the holster on his lower back and charging it up. The classic Sword Art hum pervaded the area before he released the pent up energy chopping two of the plants clean in half and causing them to combust into clouds of triangular blue pixels.
The remaining two Nepents started to look nervous, however a plant could. One stood frozen, unable to move due to the crippling fear it felt. The other, in a valiant effort to protect its brethren, waddled forward and thrust one of its razor sharp leaves into Bahr's chest. The attack bounced pitifully off of Bahr's armor, leaving him relatively unscathed.
"The only question is whether I kill both of you now, or one after the other," Bahr mused as the plant that had attacked him backed up nervously.
The plants, of course, did not respond. Because they were plants.
