  1. Nari considered everything that Freyd was saying, even as she dodged the whiplash of a nearby branch. She could feel the very wind on her skin as it lashed outwards and around, trying to hamper her movement and catch her unawares. Her entire form flashed and flowed with an agility that should've appeared near impossible with the weighted gear she wore, and yet she moved without any signs of hindrance or restriction - as much at home in the heavy plate as she was in her own skin. For long breaths she was silent, focusing on dodging the attacks of the living tree and the conversation that had been at hand moments ago.

"I think...what I want is to not have pity for them, but to help them rebuild. To become something...something they can be proud of again. But I also don't want them to destroy everything in order to get there. I...I want to find a peaceful resolution to...this." She'd continued moving, her shield deflecting a number of lesser strikes as she spoke out to her companion, trying to bring her thoughts into words and finding it more difficult than she had ever imagined. She knew what she wanted, without doubt. Placing it into coherent words that could be understood by another, however, was much more difficult. "Death and violence, war and destruction...I understand those are sometimes necessary...but there is always a way towards peace, if both sides are willing to consider it. Perhaps...perhaps once this area is safe, we can approach the Treants and see if there's anything the Elves could do - realistically do...in order to stop this...this war."

Perhaps it was foolhardy and naïve, but Nari found that the more she spoke on the topic, the more she desired to at least attempt it. She knew, without doubt, that she needed to at least make the attempt. If for no one other than herself. She turned to face Freyd, curious to see what he would say to her comments thus far, and what his input on the situation would be. "Call me naive, but...what are your thoughts on i-"

The shock of the strike was minimal, causing her to stumble and curse slightly - but it was a reminder to her that they were still involved in a dangerous fight. One which she couldn't take her eyes off of, not even for a single second. Gritting her teeth, her health bar still nearly full, she glanced around to notice Freyd's health dip slightly, and the wall crumble where the Treant had managed to impact it with it's furious strike. Grinding her teeth, she turned back to the creature and began stabbing, meticulously, with her spear.

  2. No sooner had Nari returned to the fishing pole, than another of the creatures came swimming up to the edge of the inlet that they had situated themselves on. From the corner of her eye, she saw the NPC slink back into the woodlands, well out of the way of danger once more. Sighing to herself, she picked up the spear and shield once more, determined to bring the thing down as quickly as she could, knowing that the quest was only being delayed longer and longer each second that she spent playing with the thing before her.

"I should be fine here, Mio...you relax." She kept her voice low as the kitsune made to rise to it's feet, and she could see the hesitation as she reassured it. Although it rose no further, it refused to lay it's head back down, focusing instead on the armoured warrioress as she danced around the fish-thing's form, using her spear and shield to deflect the few wide strikes that it threw towards her form. The thing was clumsy, clearly more suited to being in the water than on land, but Nari knew better than to give even the clumsy of opponents and opening, lest they find a way to overwhelm her defences through sheer relentless assault.

She felt the claws bounce of her shield once more, and struck out with the spear in retaliation, catching the opening that was left as the creature reeled backwards from her defences. A single claw slashed across the side of her cheek, leaving a small mark even as she pulled her head backwards, the sudden eruption of thorn-like appendages appearing in reaction to the damage she took - impaling the creature in a grotesque way. She could hear the small squeak of pain it released as it felt the thorns embed into it, before retreating back into her shield, disappearing for the moment and giving the two of them a moment of pause.

  3. Nari sidestepped to allow Wulfrin more room to engage with the tablet, taking a standoffish approach as the other showed a greater aptitude for the situation at hand. She smiled to herself, almost laughing as she realised that she'd been ready to attempt this alone. She didn't doubt that'd she'd figure it out eventually, but she knew that it would've taken forever if she'd come at this without the assistance that the other player was providing. He's as much a help as I am a protector.

Her eyes flitted to the directed symbol as the player pointed out a possible vowel among the tablet itself. It took Nari a few seconds to catch on to what they were suggesting, but she noticed the pattern after examining a few other portions of the scrawling, smiling softly. "Alright, you are definitely better at this than I am. I hate to admit it, but I may be a bit of dead weight here...I'll try not to hinder you too much though."

Her eyes spanned over the area, noticing other, perceivable repetitions. Differing symbols which clearly repeated in a manner that was meant to show their importance to whatever was being displayed. Nari checked the tree's bark, comparing the small notations in it's flesh to those on the tablet, before giggling in response. "I may be wrong...but this word looks like 'seeking', if you follow the cipher here, and the obvious signs of the 'ing' ending in a few of these areas..."

Her finger moved to trace a few other areas that seemed to host the same combination of scrawling, an ending to a word that clearly seemed to hold a more definitive expression. Her eyes passed back and forth between tablet and tree as she tried to line up aspects of the information given, hoping to at least prove somewhat useful in determining the finality of the message presented before them - although she was sure that the other player would finalise the actual message itself.

  4. The creature exploded in a shattering of shards that seemed to reach for the sky before disappearing into the light. Nari found herself calm, despite it all, and it took her a few moments to notice that her companion had returned to the edge of the water, returning to his fishing with an almost questionable calmness. She couldn't help but feel some unease at the situation. She was well aware of the limitations of the NPCs, and the unnatural acting that occurred with some of them. Yet something about the entire scene, the way the man had retreated, to the way he calmly returned to his original task, was upsetting to Nari's mind. It's a reminder that this is just a game, and not reality. In a world that is very quickly becoming reality. The thought had come out of nowhere, and Nari found herself shivering in response to it. She didn't like the idea, but couldn't argue against it, that this world was becoming too normal for her.

With nothing else to do, she decided to pick up her fishing line and return to the task at hand, determined to at least get the quest done before she had an entire mental breakdown at the realisation that she was adjusting in ways she promised herself she never would. You're acting as though this is life now, in everything that you do. You wake up, you shower, you use the bathroom, you eat...most of those things don't need to be done. Most of those things aren't a requirement in the game, and yet you do them anyways...this is becoming reality, in it's own way. She didn't like the fact that she had no argument against the words, nothing to counter the concepts or reassure herself. There wasn't anything to doubt - she was becoming comfortable, and this world was becoming the norm. A fact that she would either have to come to terms with, or - as she suddenly realised - drive herself into madness trying to deny.

  5. The room that they entered wasn't entirely what Nari had been expecting. A small area, the roof had long since worn away due to the elements or some other means, allowing a flow of sunlight into the area that seemed to glow with the intensity of some beacon or spotlight - lighting upon the natural area in a way that normally would've seemed illogical or improbable. Her eyes hovered on the tree in the centre of the room, having grown beyond the expanse of the roof itself and into the air beyond, towering in an area where it should not have been able to grow to begin with. Her sight passing onwards, however, noticed the tablet situated at it's base - standing upon podium designed to display it's existence, and a clear intention in it's presence.

"Puzzles..." Nari sighed in response to the obvious design of the room. She was decent enough at puzzles - enough to match the most common of gamers in the world - but she was far from the strongest, and preferred to test her skills with the spear over the skills of her mind. She pulled up her inventory again, quickly pulling out an item before proffering it to the other player. "Here. Once you get back to town, I'd recommend heading to a local shop and buying a few of these...they're important to carry on you - even if they seem unnecessary, like in situations here...you never know what may leap out of the shadows at you, and try and end your life."

Once the teleportation crystal had been taken, Nari turned her attention back to the tablet, striding the few steps across the room to bring herself before it, and staring at it intently. There were clear etchings in the stone's face, but as Nari stared at it, she realised that she was incapable of understanding any of it. Her eyes lifted to the area around her, noticing small etchings in the trees bark - some of which seemed to match those on the tablet itself. "Gods strike me down...it looks like a project, of some sort. How are your ciphering skills? I hope they're up to the task at hand..."

  6. The spear had no soon thrust into the creature's form, than Nari had once again driven her spear into it's chest - the flames erupting even as she activated the skill in an attempt to burn away the fish-thing. Whether it was effected or not was left to her imagination, as the cold of her frost bitten weapon fought against the flames that now surrounded it, the two elements tearing the flesh from the thing's form even as Nari pulled back into her stance and watched it wreath in the pain that must have been encapsulating it's form.

She found herself wondering, not for the first time, if these creatures actually felt pain - or if it was perhaps just a physical reaction that they had as a part of the programming designed into them by Cardinal itself. She wasn't entirely sure what to think about the line of thought, and decided that for the time being at least, she would push it aside as just something else that didn't need to be answered, not in this moment. The fish-thing had slapped out the fires around it, and even severely injured, Nari could see that it was preparing to launch itself at her again - a grim determination to bring her down with it, if it was going to die here.

"You're not going to get the satisfaction. Many betters have tried, and I'm still here..." There was no gloating in her voice. She simply stated the fact, even as she drove her spear towards it, knowing that - at least in this moment - she was likely safe from any repercussions that the thing may try and bring down upon her. She was not, however, safe from the remaining forms - their claws slashing against her side even as she realised the fight wasn't over yet.

  7. The fish-thing had moved quickly, but Nari had been ready for it, her spear lashing out and catching the thing in the chest even as it had rushed forwards to attempt to overrun her. Even as the spear pierced through the flesh of the thing, Nari had begun to move out of the way and into her defensive stance, not letting the sudden stunned creature gain any momentum on her. She glanced backwards for a split second, confirming that Renault had found a location of safety to disappear into - and making sure that no other creatures had suddenly appeared alongside this one.

Once she was sure of both situations, she turned her attention back to the thing, noticing that it had just begun to come out of the stunned stance it had been stuck in for the few seconds that the effect had lasted. "Fishing and fighting...I guess they kinda go hand in hand. In an odd way, sure. At least this is something that I'm more used to doing...but if I have to fish up a bunch of these things before the big boss appears, well...that's going to be annoying..."

She moved out of the way as a claw lashed out towards her, the nails scrapping along the shield in an annoying manner before passing into open air once more. The fish-thing seemed almost frustrated with the inability to close with her. Dancing around the thing, Nari felt herself even more repulsed by the appearance of the thing - a reminder of just how little she liked this floor. Even as she moved, she felt the claws of two others latch on to her form, spinning to notice for the first time that two other humanoid things, and a large, more dangerous foe had appeared. At least they have the aesthetics and theme down for this area...there's no doubt that this thing came from marsh waters.

  8. "Ah, a fine choice!" The man seemed to smile in victory towards his opponent, before continuing to speak and explain the situation to Nari. She half-listened, content to let the NPC run through it's pre-programmed dialogue, inputting small comments as required to continue towards their eventual goal. When the man had finished speaking, he turned and began leading Nari away from the area, taking her towards a small inlet in the area that provided a cut out of land half-surrounded by waterways.

Confirming that she had the limited gear required to begin searching for the fish - a basic set of fishing gear that Nari had acquired and carried just for this quest - the two settled into place, Nari quietly focusing on their endeavour, even as the NPC continued to explain the history and grandeur behind the lands around them, and the Lurker itself. Nari listened for a time, less than interested but with no choice but to partake in the conversation to some degree, before eventually falling silent and focusing entirely on the fishing at hand. At her feet, Mio had curled into a ball, content to rest and await the necessity of his presence, but no more interested in the stories of the fisherman than Nari herself had been.

Before long Nari felt a pull on the rod, a sign that something had been caught by the bait and dragged into the pull of her reel. Carefully, aware of the weight that was being placed on the instrument and the way in which it could simply snap if overworked, she began to reel the thing inwards, fighting against it even as it fought against her. From the corner of her eye she saw as Renault had begun to back away, putting distance between himself and her position. Nari didn't have time to wonder at the movement, the humanoid figure suddenly appearing from the water in a burst. Moving quickly, she grabbed her spear and shield, already moving into a combative stance even as the creature lunged onto the land itself.

  9. Dayurga held as much appeal as the main settlement of the floor. Nari's nose wrinkled in response, and she felt a hiss of breath leave her teeth as she tried to keep herself from commenting on the otherwise unappealing area. The information about the quest had brought her thus far, and as she looked around she couldn't help but wonder where she needed to go in order to begin the quest in earnest, and then - if luck permitted - make her quick escape from this world. Her eyes passed over the moving bodies that made up the few villagers and assorted individuals who lived here, most refusing to acknowledge her presence and instead going about whatever rudimentary or repetitive tasks they required as part of their lives. A few stood out, standing in a manner that cleared appeared to be waiting - likely initial points for any of the quests offered in this area. What lacked, in the moment, was any sign of a player base aside from Nari's own presence.

"I guess that makes me the odd one today, hey?" She murmured the words to the kitsune at her feet, eyeing up one of the nearby NPCs that had the look of a fisherman about him. A long spear held over his shoulder, and a look of near-desperation on his face, had drawn Nari's eyes towards him. She could see the other fisher nearby, eyeing up both the initial NPC Nari had noticed as well as the few bodies that moved nearby. "As good a place to start as any, isn't it Mio?"

She moved towards the two fishermen, noticing as their appearances seemed to perk up slightly at her approach. Almost as if in que to her very presence, each strode forwards and began to offer their arguments for her engagement, the words coming in nearly on top of one another. Nari sighed as the two spoke, focusing on each of their arguments as best as she could in the moment.

"Fine traveller! Won't you assist a fisherman such as myself on a grand quest. I hunt the Lurker - a renown prize in these lands - and I think I know exactly where to find it...and more importantly, how to coax it out into existence!" The man held a soft smile on his face, welcoming and clearly confident in his information - a contrast to the other individual who seemed, to Nari's experience and insight, to be almost desperate in his request.

"Ah, but you have the look of an adventurer to you! I was an adventurer once myself...but fishing has taken over my life! I still hold the spear that I used in many a case...and it has helped me immensely with my fishing! Were you to join me, I could help you in besting any of the creatures that we would have to face! He would simply sit back and watch, and make you do all the work!"

The two bickered for a few moments, and Nari watched as the small prompt appeared before her - giving her the option of the NPCs to bring into her party in order to assist her in the quest. Her eyes passed over the limited information it gave, her decision made upon those lines, and without truly considered the voices that seemed to rise and fall before her. Softly, she pressed the button just beneath the name, accepting the quest and confirming her placement with <<Renault>>.

  10. "Mongoose...?" Nari's eyes held the question more so than her word, but she figured that there was nothing to answer beyond the obvious. Shaking aside the questioning doubt - for the thing had looked like a cat - she chose instead to trust the one who was closest to the creature. "Well, then, consider this an apology to her. She's a majestic and fine being, regardless of any...discrepancies with her appearance, or mistakes made by those of lesser awareness. She should be proud to know that she has such a caring, capable and well-meaning partner."

Freyd led the two of them through the streets of the city like a well-versed tour guide, his eyes darting around and taking in surroundings in a manner that bespoke familiarity and comfort. Nari, in contrast, followed along behind and felt out of place. She'd rarely attended Ellesmera, and in honest truth she was uncomfortable with the unfamiliar setting that seemed to try and swallow her as she passed through it. Even as her eyes darting all around, watching for shadows within the very shadows that seemed to encapsulate the majority of alleys and roadways they passed, she focused her ears and thoughts upon what Freyd was lecturing her on. She found her attention drawn to the faces they moved by, noticing - for the first time - how young they appeared; a fact she had failed to notice before he'd brought it to her attention.

"Children...I would not have recognised it had you not have brought it to my attention, but they do all seem...young. And not just in the features, but in their very movements and actions. The look in their eyes...it has a worriedness to it." Her voice was soft as she considered the information Freyd had pointed out, information that she had clearly missed until this moment. She wondered if she'd been willingly blind to it, or simply unfamiliar. "The things we do in our final hours define who we are..."

She had fallen silent as they passed beneath the gate, her eyes passing up towards the guards atop the wall that opened their exit. She noticed, now aware of the situation of the city itself, the youngest that covered their entirety. An essence that went beyond their simple young appearance, and showed their very core to those who knew how to see it. "It brings a measure of pity towards them, doesn't it? And yet, I can't help but wonder if they deserve such pity, or if it's simply a...humanistic reaction. What does that say about me?"

A rumbling caught her attention as something began moving in the distance, the shaking ground beneath her feet - slight in truth, but noticeable nonetheless - drew her attention outwards into the forests that spread along the horizon. She could see, even from this distance, the form of something in the treeline moving; large and lumbering in a manner that confirmed her suspicions immediately. "The trees send their regards."

  11. He's aware of the foundations of gaming, and the essence of each role's perspective within the greater world. Nari's thoughts passed through like a flicker of waves as she listened to his voice and explanation, nodding in appreciation as he made arrow markers with the rocks. She didn't doubt the idea, but even as she watched, she lifted a hand to point just above her head, signalling to the mini-map that hovered just on the edge of her vision - and she assumed his, as well. "The idea is smart, but...the mapping software will lead us back, if required. Which is not to discourage your efforts in any way, but...sometimes things aren't necessary, is all."

She led them onwards even as she continued focusing on providing advice, her voice soft enough to not carry too far ahead, and yet just loud enough that the other player would be able to hear without the necessity to come closer or strain themselves to listen. "If your intent is to go the path of DPS, I would recommend focusing on it from the get-go. You can, in future, repeal and reassign your skill points if you so desire, of course. But there's no point in taking skills that you don't necessarily need. For example, you could at lower levels take light or heavy armour skills, and refund them at a later time in order to take, say cloth...but why bother? It's a different form of fighting altogether, and you'll have to adjust your own actions, reactions and capabilities to deal with the change...rather than just going for it at the beginning."

She turned into a side alley, coming to a stop before a large stone doorway and frowning slightly. Her eyes passed over it, taking in the form and realising that no obvious handles, or other signs of openings appeared upon it. Tsking gently into the air, she turned around and led them down another pathway that she'd spotted, one which carried a soft glow - a glow that she'd wanted to avoid, if at all possible. "If you're worried about safety and the possibility of danger...well, then it's best just to find others to travel with. It doesn't always have to be higher level players either; a group of four level ones in this area are almost as safe as a single level thirty three player. Almost."

She flashed a smile back at the other player, meant to ease any discomfort or concern they may have been feeling. Although they were headed into a relatively new area - or new to Nari, at least - she was confident in her capabilities. I faced down a floor boss, didn't I? What sort of dangers could this cave throw at us that we couldn't at least escape from.. The sudden thought hit her, and she stopped and turned to the other player, her face serious. "Do you have any teleportation crystals?

  12. Things had become more lively as of late for Nari, and she found herself once more diving into the rush of experiences as she focused on making headway once more. Even as she'd awoken to the morning light - Mio screaming into the void of sunlight for the food that the small kitsune constantly wanted as soon as Nari was awake and alert enough to hear the yowling - she had risen and completed her morning routine. She knew that much of it was wasted - things like toiletries were unnecessary in this world, but she found that the actual process of following through with them somehow made things more bearable.

Her morning routine completed, Nari had taken a look over her questlines, focusing on those still noted as incomplete. Her finger hovered over one, the epitome of the four horsemen the defining factor in it's appearance, and she found herself biting her lip as she considered the possibilities. She knew that alone, she could never hope to complete the questline - and as much as she may have wanted to argue it, she knew she'd need help. Sighing, she brought up her messaging system, quickly typing out a message in the hopes that someone would answer her call.

    To: @All Players
    From: @Nari-Lanreth

This message is being broadcasted to everyone, in the hopes that someone sees it and shows...well, some interest.

I'm looking into beginning the Cleanse the Corruption questline, and while it's tempting to run it alone, I...kinda like being alive. So yeah, if anyone's around...ping me back?

    Hoping to hear from someone;

    Nari<>

She sent the message before she could second guess her action, hearing the confirmation ping even as the box before her disappeared. Sighing, she glanced down at Mio, the kitsune staring up at her expectantly as it waited for her to speak. "Well, now we wait and see...and hope that someone is still alive and interested..."

  13. The smell was the first thing to hit Nari as she stepped off the platform and onto the floor proper. Lazaro had never been a favourite place for Nari, but as she stepped into the marshland itself, she was reminded of the unappealing wave of scents that came with such a land. Her nose had wrinkled in response, and Nari found herself covering her face with her hand, glancing down to notice that even Mio had begun to show signs of disgust in response. She waved her other hand, motioning for the two to move outwards and away, hoping that they'd either grow used to the smell that surrounded them, or that they'd be long gone from it shortly, and returned to their home where they could relax a bit.

Leaving the settlement behind did little for the smell, and although Nari felt herself adjusting to it, she found that the lingering scent still bothered her to a degree. Sighing as she left the area in favour of the roadways and pathways that led through the area to the other settlements of note, she decided that the twelfth floor would be added to her list of disliked areas - if only for the overpowering marshlands that made up it's body. "You'd think there'd be an option to turn off the smell, or something..."

Despite her grumbling, she was enjoying being out and away from her home - a place she'd been spending too much time as of late. Even the acrid and unwelcoming air of the marshlands was somehow more lively and, while not quite enjoyable, more acceptable than the staleness that had come to be her residence as of late. As much as she'd come to enjoy Onora's company, Nari couldn't help but notice that she'd begun to desire a return to the living world, or what counted as the living world among the lands of Aincrad. "Maybe it's just...a desire to escape. I mean, things have become repetitive as of late, haven't they Mio? Wake up, do some chores, go to sleep...there's more to life than that, right?"

Even as she said it aloud, she realised the fallacy in the ideology. If she were being honest with herself, it sounded exactly like her life in the real world - the world beyond Sword Art Online. It had been, in essence, the reason why she had left the real world behind in the first place. Shaking her head, she couldn't help but laugh at the simplicity of it all - the way in which everything seemed to circle in upon itself in a manner that Nari wanted to ignore. "I think they call that irony..."

  14. The soft sigh escaped even before Nari had opened her eyes. She could feel the sunlight beating down on her, filtering in through the window and reminding her that daylight had arrived once more. She wanted nothing more than to remain in the bed and laze the day away, but the consistent yapping that occurred every few moments from Mio, alongside the fact that Onora had risen and left some time ago had both driven her to a wakefulness that was unrelenting. She wasn't entirely sure how long she'd laid there, trying to fall asleep again without any success, but she knew that eventually she'd have to give in and follow her partner's decision to leave the comfort of rest behind - an eventually that appeared to have finally arrived.

Pushing herself upwards, Nari forced herself into a sitting position. She opened her eyes slowly, as if trying to savour the remaining seconds of rest that were fleeting away from her, and scowled at the air. Sitting beside her was the kitsune, calm eyes staring at her with a clear request in their centre. Food. Nari shook her head, fighting back the laughter that was bubbling just beyond the surface. The kitsune hadn't moved, or said anything, and yet Nari couldn't help but find a humorous response to the unspoken words that it was trying to radiate towards her.

Throwing her feet over the side of the bed, she left behind the comfort and warmth that it provided, waving a hand in the air even as Mio leapt from the furniture and onto the floor. Calmly, a slight tinge of sleepiness still in her voice, Nari gave another laugh, following the fox-like creature towards the door of the room. 'Fine, fine. You've convinced me. Let's go feed the poor starving familiar before it decides to start eating me."

The house was relatively quiet, Onora having long ago left on some errand that she had mentioned needing to do today, and Nari found herself sitting quietly at the table watching Mio consume the breakfast she had laid out for him, while sipping at the tea in her hand. The quiet seemed to stretch in towards her, and it wasn't long before Nari spoke - if only to break the silence and remind everything that life still hovered over her and the kitchen she was in. "What should we do today, then?"

Her hand flitted outwards, opening the menu and flipping to the list of quests that she had yet to test herself against, looking for anything that caught her eye. She skipped immediately over a few she recognised; wanting to do them, but aware that they would be far too dangerous - or outright impossible - on her own. "There's this, though..."

She paused over the singular item, reading it in entirety before making her decision. Nodding to herself, she closed the menu after noting the details and confirming that she would look into completing it, content with her decision for the day. At her feet, Mio continued to slowly make his way through his morning breakfast, seeming to savour it with each bite, content to take his time without a desire or urgency of rush to his action.

  15. Nari was pleased to note that the player's intellectual awareness of the situation was at least realistic. They were very clearly fresh to the experience - something that she put aside for later review - but they were also aware of their limitations and capabilities. She nodded as the player spoke, feeling slightly more relaxed as they explained their lack of desire to face any dangers. Questions turned towards recommendations, and Nari found herself speaking almost immediately, old memories coming to mind even as she listed off the various information that she'd learnt throughout her time in Aincrad.

"There's always the foundational questions - The First Lessons Trio, I believe they're known as - which set you up with a basic understanding of how all of this works. Combat is...dangerous. Necessary, but dangerous. You won't survive thoroughly and advance without it, but you need to do so with caution and care. Mistakes can be the end, permanently. Beyond that, there's a handful of useful quests - those focused around technical skills and weapon attacks, which I would recommend. Perhaps maybe not the vampire quest yet, as that one's...difficult, to say the least." She paused to look over the individual before continuing her commentary, as if trying to gauge their personality or outfit. "The other advice depends on what role you're planning on taking within your party, or parties as it may be. For example..."

She waved a hand over herself as she began walking again, moving towards the cave and leading them towards the actual quest itself. "...I play the role of a technical-expert tank, designed to draw attention - known as Hate - away from others and onto myself, while also causing status ailments and damage over time effects on enemies that benefit the remainder of the party. There's a number of different aspects, although they boil down to tank, damage focused, or supportive roles. Any idea which you're planning on heading into? As that'll effect how you build yourself, and what sort of equipment or specifics you focus on."

The cave was slow to swallow them, the light shifting from the bright sunlight that had lit the exterior, to a dull darkness that cut away most vision. Nari was surprised that it didn't entirely blind her, but rather simply seemed to cut her vision down to half it's normal length. In a moment of comforting herself, she pulled up her menu and drew her shield and spear into existence, spinning the weapon in her left hand with a method of ease and comfort. She turned and smiled at the other player, hoping to alleviate any fear that might arise by the sudden action. "I like to be prepared, just in case. Areas like this can be...well, dangerous. It's never a good idea to wander into these possible dungeons unarmed or unarmoured. If anything appears - and I don't care how friendly it looks - stay behind me. If nothing else, I can give you a better chance of escaping."

She paused suddenly, a surprised look crossing her face before she held her right hand out, offering it to the other player. "Nari-Lanreth, by the way. But you can call me Nari."

  16. The walk had been pleasant enough, giving her time to stretch her legs and talk aloud with Mio without the constant questioning looks of those around her, or the consistent laughter that came from Onora whenever she did it in the blonde's presence. Her pleasant walk was, eventually, interrupted by a voice calling out from behind her, however. Nari turned reflexively, her hand shifting slightly as she reacted, pausing only once she heard the words of the other player. She listened, calmly, to his explanation and purpose, noting that he was headed in the same direction and for the exact same quest. Hesitation still in her eyes, Nari gave a slight nod towards the cave, forcing a smile that appeared hollow onto her face.

"You're in luck, I was actually headed out to the Scents of the Wilds questline. If you're interested, we could hit it up together...I've heard there's little in the way of danger, but that the quest itself is easier completed with...acquaintances." She'd paused when she'd almost said 'friends', realising that the word wouldn't be fitting for the current situation. Still, she was quickly to bring up her menu, hand hovering over the invite for a few seconds before sending it off towards the individual. "That said, I've been putting this one off for too long, so I figured I'd come back down and complete it."

She paused, glancing over the player's appearance and realising just how new to the game they appeared. Nari couldn't help but wonder at that, but she pushed aside the questions that bubbled to the surface, instead focusing on the fact that she would - for better or for worse - possibly be required to accept the other player's life under her guidance and protection. "Assuming you're interested, I will say...If I say run, you run. There's no unnecessary heroics or deaths. Is that clear?"

  17. NIGHT's final straight had slashed through both spawn and vampiress in a movement of ease, leaving the field open for Nari's engagement with the remaining spawn. She crossed the area calmly, letting the scythe tail behind in a casual manner, before bringing it up in a wide arc that ended with a guarded stance in front of her own form. She focused on simplicity, rather than elegancy with the strike, deciding to place reservation on her attacks - seeing as they'd been less than successful thus far.

"More. I...have you ever read twilight? I have a...history with it. It's, well, it's impacted my views on vampires." She glanced towards NIGHT even as she spoke, a daring look in her eyes for the argument she half-expected to arrive. Before it could start, however, Nari noticed that the figure who'd stood off to the side the entire fight had been talking, his voice suddenly cut into their conversation and forcing Nari's attention towards him. "Sorry, were you saying something Beezleblob?"

The man's reaction was immediate, a rush of anger that seemed both withheld and unleashed at the same instance, and Nari watched as a sparkling of shards drew her attention to where Lilith had originally fallen. The man's voice spoke, softly, as if in defiance of the attitude the player's had shown towards him thus far. "Look at that. You managed to defeat one of my pawns. She'll come back after a little bit, but would that really be any fun?"

"Huh...Vampires." There was an annoyance to Nari's voice as she spoke, bringing the scythe up before herself even as the crystals formed into a rendition of the vampiress, corrupted and ugly, but clearly meant to be a new form of Lilith.

Restorative Strike | Whenever any player suffers Bleed damage from Lilith's attacks and abilities, Lilith regains an equal number of HP

  18. Nari's eyes widened at the voice, suddenly recognising the form and having the memory of the other individual snap into place. She found herself flushing deeply in response, and a few mumbled words slipped out - lost in the continued voice of the other's questioning. She felt her embarrassment slip away, however, as Freyd asked about the Lanreth portion of her name. Without meaning to, she found herself bursting into laughter, caught off guard by the question itself, and the importance he seemed to place upon it.

"A you thing? Pfft, no I can assure you it's not a you thing...I made the whole name, thinking it was...well, it's a name I made. But it's a mouthful to constantly say Nari-Lanreth, right? So it's just easier to shorten it to Nari. Kinda like a nickname for Ashley, becoming Ash...or maybe Bradley becoming Brad would be more common?" She'd been following the Elf messenger/guide absentmindedly, listening as Freyd had continued talking in what almost seemed a semi-nervous manner, and it was with a slight startling that she came to the realisation that they'd arrived at what was likely the palace.

Even as they entered, she caught the whispered words of Freyd's commentary on the area, and found herself fighting back another laugh in response. She had to agree, however, that the locale was certainly appealing to the eyes. As they approached, and the queen introduced herself, Nari found herself falling into a natural curtsey - an action that she had near perfected since her arrival in Aincrad. An action which was completely ruined by Freyd's follow-up commentary and outbursts regarding the plans of the entire war council that had been gathered before them. Shaking her head, she turned to look at her new party member, smiling slightly and giving a soft shrug. "Maybe they know they're going to screw it up, and need to rely on us instead? This is their way of...saving face, I guess? Make it look like they have no choice but to request our help, and play it off like a brilliant military decision. At least they're smart enough to come to professionals, when it comes to dealing with...vegetation...right?"

She spoke just loud enough to ensure that the commander who'd snapped out earlier could hear her, all while still making it clear that she was speaking directly and in confidence to Freyd - her eyes catching in the distance the anger that spread across the Elf's face. Leaning in closer to Freyd and dropping her voice a bit, she added to her original comment. "I don't think the Lord Commander Utter-Failure over there is very happy about us being here, but teach him to screw up in the first place. I'd still keep an eye out on him...I don't trust him for some reason. And after my last quest...well, let's just say Cardinal isn't so against betrayal and backstabbing."

"If your Royal Highness and Associated...assistants...will excuse us, we have a siege to prepare for." She turned without waiting for a response from the gathered individuals, making her way towards the doors that would lead back out into the city. She'd already pulled up her menu, sending Freyd a quick party invitation just to seal their cooperation on the event. Once he was alongside her, she'd add a final comment as they made their way outside, smiling brightly with a soft twinkle in her eye. "You know, if I hadn't recognised your voice I'd have never guessed it was you laying on the ground wrestling a cat of all things...far cry in appearance from the capable, strategic frontliner who led the assault against the Many Headed Dragon of Doom and Death."

  19. It had been a long time since Nari had entered the confines and streets of the Town of Beginning, but as she stepped off the teleporter pad she couldn't help but wonder at the immense size of the cityscape that lay before her. A small tickle of surprise, one that she had felt long ago, when she'd first entered the world of Sword Art Online, reached into her heart and mind, and she found herself marvelling at it all once again. The spell broke quickly, however, as she spotted the towering pillar that signified the area where they had been told their fates. Bitter memories washed over those of a purer nature, and Nari found her mood soiling immediately, her step taking a much more aggressive manner as she moved away from the sights she had stopped before.

"It's time that I took up this questline, Mio...I mean it's been years since it was released, and...well, I've been putting it off. But no more. I need to get this one done, if I'm going to be serious about frontlining. And no, this isn't just some OCD measure of checking off all the boxes...entirely. But it needs to be done, and you'll just have to suffer alongside me." She spoke to the kitsune at her feet, her voice filled with a mixture of light playfulness and joy in complete contrast to how her expression had seemed mere moments ago. She made her way through semi-familiar streets, noting a few old shops that she had once favoured, before moving upwards in the world. "It's almost like it's frozen in time...so much hasn't changed..."

Her eyes passed over a familiar coffee shop, and she felt her mood shift again, turning away from it quickly as she realised just where she was. "And some things have changed. Alright...it's about time we head out of this city and really start on this quest. The information broker said something about a cavern outside the city proper, somewhere near the edge of the floor itself, but I need to find something first to initialise it...The sooner we find it, the better. I hear this one is...well, a pain, truly."

She'd made her way towards the gates leading out of the city, spotting the familiar guard that she'd waved at every time she'd gone through them before. Ever vigilant, on guard, and a sour reminder of just how much this game didn't change. She pushed the thoughts aside, instead deciding to focus on the wonders that could still be found within the world. "And if we finish this fast enough, maybe we can even hit one of those new bakeries on the way out, hey? I promise you this time I'll even consider buying you one of those tarts. Yeah, I thought you'd like that..."

  20. Nari blinked a few times as a figure collapsed at her feet after what she could only describe as a wondrous leapt, tumble and tackle into what appeared to be a shimmering form of a cat, which had somehow become entwined with the very essence of a galaxy. Uncertain of what to make of the entire scene - for it was a scene, no less, having pulled the attention of a large number of nearby NPCs and players - she was caught entirely off guard as the Elfen messenger sighed and invited the figure at her feet to attend the meeting with the queen as well.

"Really? Does the queen just invite anyone to these meetings?" She'd spoken before she realised it, and although her words had been tinged with a tone of humour, she glanced down and offered the man on the ground her hand, following up here original comment in an almost hasty manner. "Maybe I should've done an impressive leap into the conversation as well. Had I have known it was going to occur, that is...I'm Nari. Nari-Lanreth, but I go by Nari. It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance. I think."

At her feet the small kitsune seemed to sniff at the cat-like form, a curious yip coming from it before it fell silent and seemed content with their situation. Turning her attention back to the Elfen figure, she gave a nod and a wave of her hand, before deciding there wasn't much more to do other than follow the messenger. "I've no idea what the queen could want, but I would assume that it's something of importance to ask - what is clearly - one of the best athletes in the entirety of Ellesmera to assist."

She barely managed to keep herself from laughing, even as she continued to poke fun at the entrance of the other player. She'd seen numerous interesting entries during her time in Aincrad, but she had to admit that the current one would line among the greatest of them, if not lead the lists entirely. Calmly, she pulled open her menu and retrieved a few items from it, sharing the snacks with the kitsune and consuming a number of potions that she felt would benefit her in the coming moments. She had no doubts that they'd be placed into some dangerous locale, eventually, and wanted to be wholly prepared for it.

"So, aside from amazing feats of athleticism in response to what appears to be a self-indulgent familiar, what brings you to Ellesmera? Or were you aware of our summoning that was placed upon us, in advance?" Her tone was calm, and as friendly as it could be considering everything. Something about the man felt familiar to Nari, and yet she found she wasn't quite able to place it in her mind, yet.

  21. Not for the first time, Nari realised just how much of Aincrad she hadn't explored in depth. Her eyes flitted over the wonders to be found within the large city - if it could be called that - of Ellesmera. The settlement had been crafted around waterfall and valley, and appeared to be the spitting imagery of what Nari had come to learn of the Elfen culture within Sword Art Online. She could see lines in buildings that bespoke of excellent craftsmanship; areas that were refined beyond imagination or expectation. The entire view was, in a word, breathtaking.

"It does seem a little pompous though, doesn't it Mio?" The small kitsune at her feet squeaked in response - sounding neither agreeable nor disagreeable to the words that had been directed at it. Nari didn't glance down at the kitsune, knowing that there was little to see on it's facial expressions as it followed along beside her like a dutiful dog, it's nine-tails flipping in what might appear almost as pretentious as the very settlement around them. She couldn't help but smile at the thought - the unfettered realisation that they may have so much in common, and yet be entirely different in essence. "Well, I promised you something good to eat, right? I'm sure they have something...more than just leaves around here. That's an old joke about Elves, although you may not know that...or maybe you do? I'm honestly not sure."

She put aside the musings for the moment, glancing for anything that looked edible for the fox-creature at her feet. Her eyes passed over carts selling a variety of pieces, everything from weaponry and armour to small trinkets and baubles that may have caught the eyes of passerby within the small market area. She lingered over a pile of fish piled near a cart, moving towards it only after she'd confirmed nothing else appeared interesting to her eyes. "What about some salm-"

Her sentence was caught as she spotted movement coming her way; a form that was dressed in what appeared to regal fittings that were somehow both eye-catching, and unappealing to Nari's senses. She stepped to the side in order to move out of the way of the form, and was surprised when it stopped before her, bowing slightly before speaking aloud to her. "Most beneficial and welcoming of greetings, I come bearing a request for audience with Queen Haela, in the most urgent of necessities."

Nari's eyes shifted downwards as a prompt appeared before her, marking the beginning of what was clearly a quest that she could choose to engage in. She gave a soft sigh, her hand raising to hit the acceptance button even as she gave a soft shrug and a nonchalant reply. "Well, I guess we didn't really have anything else planned today, now did we Mio? Besides, meeting a queen might be...interesting."

  22. She wasn't sure how long she'd remained within the throne room, staring at the throne and wondering at everything that had occurred. She'd let her mind run wild, thinking back to everything that had happened - both amazing and horrible - since she'd entered Aincrad, the world of Sword Art Online. She considered all the horrors she'd seen, the wondrous moments regardless of those horrors, and everything that had brought her to this very moment. She couldn't help but wonder if there was some purpose to all of this, some final moment that would reveal it had all been for something. She doubted there would be. She knew this was the work of one, mad individual, whose agenda and purpose would be secret until her dying day. There was no resolution for something such as this. There never was.

She was eventually snapped out of her thoughts as Mio came nipping at her feet, very likely demanding the promise of escape that she had provided earlier. She couldn't help but smile at the small kitsune, staring up at her with an expression that seemed void of concern, void of worry or fear. It was there simply to be by her side and help her through the difficult times, and Nari realised just how much she cared for the small creature considering where it originated from. Giving up on her thoughts, she turned away from the throne and left the room behind, vowing to find a way to become better - to overcome the darkness that had been slowly pressing in. She knew there was still hope, still something good in this world, and as she left behind the Room of Betrayal, she decided that she'd continue to fight for that small glimmer - no matter what it took.

  23. As the blade pulled from the figure's torso - a shift of frost covering tip and wound - Nari heard the squeal of pain and regret that seemed to emanate from within the hood. A scowl crossed her face, and she raised her spear to deliver the final blow, frustration at the figure's desire to remain alive infuriating her more than it should've. She found the tip of the spear quivering just before her face, pulled back and ready to release - and yet she paused as hands appeared, open palmed and clearly requesting respite. The small sliver of voice followed, filled with pain and fear.

"Wait! Wait...please...please I made a mistake...Please, please don’t kill me! I only did it because I’m weak and needed the crystal to make some col! I wasn’t going to kill you really, just scare you a bit! My boss made me-" Nari stopped listening as the words fell into sobs, the voice breaking apart in clear distress. She felt furious, more so now than she had earlier, that Cardinal had created such an encounter. There was no joy to be found here, no gain, no thrill. Only horror and vile can be found in such an encounter. Only the worst of all situations...

She turned away from the man, choosing not to fall into the darkness that Cardinal so clearly wanted to bring upon her. She found herself waving a hand, listening half-heartedly as the man explained his situation. More importantly, Nari found herself not caring for his words. The dull echo of them lost in the plethora of thoughts that passed through her head. She shook them away, dismissing the man with a growl even as he tried to thank her, and eventually she found herself alone in the throne room.

  24. The blade in the broker's hand had found an opening in Nari's defences, causing it to drop slightly again before it began to recover. She'd taken advantage of the momentary closeness in order to drive the spear in towards the figure's form, slamming it as hard as she could in order to stun the man. She had no doubts that she'd torn through anything that could be considered armour on his form as the blade had penetrated and the wind was knocked from him.

Even as she had responded to the violence that the man had brought forth, Nari couldn't help but wonder why. Why would Cardinal force him to do something that could obviously never be fruitful? Was it meant to be something for lower level players? Was it meant to be...psychological? To break us more, as we were betrayed? What was the purpose of all of...this? She had no answers, no reasoning for what could possibly have turned the man against a player that it could clearly not defeat. She felt a minutiae of pity towards the figure before her even as she realised that she would have to destroy it. Even as she realised that it had brought upon itself the death it would encounter, time and time again. "Is there no escape...?"

There was no answer from the void, or the figure before her, and Nari found herself driving the spear downwards in frustration. She felt, as she always had since arriving in Aincrad, a sense of loss and anger at everything that was occurring. She felt the roar in her throat coming to life even as it escaped beyond her lips, a desire to do nothing more than end. To end this figure's life. To end this world, this game. To end everything.

  25. Her return strike had been wide, passing through open air even as the blade had been pulled backwards from her side. She'd hoped to at least catch the combatant with the shield as she swung around, but instead she'd found herself facing a familiar figure, now several steps away from her. Beneath the hood she could see the slightest edge of a smile, a playful expression that seemed to speak monuments towards what it would do to her given enough time. Nari couldn't help but snort in frustration, realising what she had walked into belatedly.

"You chose unwisely." Her words were simple, whispered, and she saw as the figure's head seemed to tilt slightly and the smirk slipped away. Perhaps it wasn't the response it was programmed for, or perhaps it was only just realising what it's programming had led it into - either way, Nari knew that it had come to fruitition just how dangerous of a situation it had placed itself into at that moment. She gave it no advantage, slipping forwards into her offensive stance and letting the spear jut out to push the figure backwards, forcing it towards a corner of the room.
