[F27 – PP] A Whisper in the Night
Nari-Lanreth replied to Nari-Lanreth's topic in Intermediate Floors
The drop of the sack hitting the floor pulled Nari’s attention. The square was empty at this time of day – empty, save for two individuals she’d never seen before who seemed to be keeping to themselves. She eyed them each, getting an odd vibe from the one currently seated on the ground, directly in the centre of the square near the teleport pad. Something about him… She shook her head to rid herself of the feeling, it was likely nothing more than nerves at partaking in what was essential her first step towards the frontlines. ‘This rumour had better be worthwhile, otherwise...’ The t -

Nari glanced back as she walked towards Nemo, pondering the question about if the garden had been the same. She’d been there a few times – and most times the garden had been fairly similar… “Uhm…I guess there’s sometimes some slight differences. I visited it on the fourth floor once, and it was entirely covered in a light dusting of snow. So many it takes some properties of the floor you originate from?” She really didn’t have much proof to go on – but maybe if today’s garden showed some differences, something similar to this floor – then maybe she could confirm that. “I guess we’ll just -

Nari saw the flashing image of Astreya almost immediately – even in the crowd, the girl somehow stuck out. At least, Nari felt like she stuck out. Smiling at her in return, she wandered over towards her, tucking her spear into her body as she went so as to avoid hitting anyone in the crowd with it. “Hey Iris. Yeah, quite a coincidence…did you hear Nemo was around here too? One of my info…” She paused to let a few NPCs slide past, before continuing. “…well, someone I know told me that he was here. I’ve visited the gardens a few time – have you yet?” She realised she was talking faster -

Nari’s eyes had shifted alongside Cleo’s, drifting towards the direction of the sound. She could see the girl climb to her feet in the corner of her eye, but her awareness focused on the distance. Something had cracked, she was sure of it…and the one thing she knew for sure, was that sounds in the distance were never good. “Moving on may not be a bad idea.” She turned and started heading inwards, deeper into the ruins themselves. On her shoulder, Yuki twitched, a sign that she had also caught the sound in the air, and something about it – or the environment – was making the fox uneasy. Kn -

Nari nodded as the player talked about their choice of not choosing, and wisely realised it might not be the absolute best idea to follow through with. She considered the question, taking time to cover a few other pointers before covering her own choices. “DPS is good – especially if you’re focusing on that dagger, like it seems. Recommendation, if you’re willing to take it. Don’t try and dip through everything, if you can help it. It’ll truly weaken you in areas that you should focus on – not to say that you should ignore armour and the benefits of it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean y -

Nari blinked as the message came in, immediately leaping out of the bed to read it. Her eyes quickly raced over it before she collected her few necessary possessions, before racing out the door and heading down the road towards the teleporter pad. She had to stop and turn around halfway there when she realised she’d accidentally left Yuki behind – and as she returned, she knew from the look on the fox’s face that no amount of treats was going to immediately resolve the damage she’d done. “I’m sorry Yuki…I’m just…excited. Come on, I promise I’ll make it up to you…” Almost reluctantly, the -

“It… can be.” Nari glanced over the player, taking in their weapons, their armour, and their general setup and appearance. “With this game, there’s three major fighting styles. DPS – that’s damage focusing, Tank – those are people like myself who set themselves up to take damage, and Support – generally individuals’ setup to support through healing, debuffing the enemy, providing buffs to their party members…” Nari paused to let the information sink in, before continuing. “There are of course subsets of each class, and you’ll see intermingling to a degree – some individuals will take tank -

Nari glanced back at the man, nodding at his request. A slight smile on her face as she responded to him. “There’s no need to worry about that – like I said, the quest won’t let me interfere. You’re basically on your own with this…the best I can do is provide you protection if you accident draw something in to fight, or get too close to a mob. Other than that, I’ll be a bit aways, probably doing some foraging of my own.” She gave the man another once over, realising how new his equipment looked. “You…haven’t been out in the field before, have you? Not to say it’s a bad thing…just…curious. -

Nari thought back to the different skills that a familiar could do. It had been a while since she’d considered it – and for her, specifically, it had been an easy enough decision. “Well, Yuki is a profession based familiar…she provides me with help in relation to my crafting – it’s truly been a blessing for my abilities as a blacksmith. But…familiars can do a number of things, from helping in combat, to helping with searching for things – or profession help for that matter. And combat doesn’t necessarily mean they’re attacking or taking hits for you, it could be something as simple as pr -

Settling against the wall of the shop, she waited for Jerry to make his way in and speak with Zachariah, turning her attention to Onóra as the man was out of sight. No words passed between the two of them, but from the look on her friend’s face, Nari knew that they were both thinking the same thing. She heard the quick conversation between the NPC and Jerry, the description of what was required. Nodding as the man returned to the outer world, she’ll continue where they had left off their conversation – if only briefly. “I’m glad that you understand, some of it at least. And I won’t pry yo -

“I wouldn’t advise –“ Her words cut off as the girl placed the piece of food back within the carrying bag. Nari had thought for a moment that she was actually going to attempt consuming it, and although she wasn’t sure what would occur from such an action, she assumed nothing good would come of it. “As to the bond…yes, there’s quite a strong bond. I’m sure you’ll find out that soon enough for yourself. It’s…difficult to explain.” Her eyes roamed the area again, a casual, calm look upon her face as she watched for any threats. Her mind strode towards Onóra for the briefest of moments, but -

Nari-Lanreth replied to Astreya's topic in Merchants and Shops
Nari was truly surprised wandering into Astreyas recording studio – or, at least that’s what she assumed they were called. The place seemed fitting for the younger girl, and as she glanced about she smiled, feeling a bit of Astreya in the very atmosphere of the shop. “Hey, Iris, if you’re not too busy I have a couple orders to place – no big rush on them!” Taking in the entire studio area – she was still fairly sure that’s what you called this sort of setup, she added, “This is a really nice place you’ve got going here…like super nice. It really fits you.” -
Nari wandered into the little café, glancing around and taking in the sights. It didn't take her long to find the front counter, and she quickly went about moving towards it. “Uhm… hi. I’d like to put in a quick order, if possible?” Glancing over the selection, she’ll quickly locate out the piece she’s looking for, before glancing around the café again. “This place really is nice and cozy… maybe one day I’ll move down this way…”

Lounging around in her estate, Nari was at a loss for what to do. Onóra was busy for the day, and most of her other friends had already stated they were off doing something or another of importance. She had considered heading out to visit Nemo’s little paradise again, but hadn’t wanted to go alone. Bringing up her friends list, she scrolled until she found a name she hadn’t tried yet. To: Astreya From: Nari-Lanreth Message: Hey! No idea if you have other plans today or what, but I recently heard that Nemo’s going to be around on floor ten. Did you want to try hitting up the

Nari-Lanreth replied to Jerry Rose's topic in Beginner Floors
Nari nodded at the man’s words. There was truth behind them, and yet, she felt there was something else hidden there as well. “True. There is nothing forcing you to join the front lines by any means – and as you say, you could stop at floor two and wait for the game to be cleared.” She paused for a second before continuing, making sure there was an understandable break between the lines of thought. “But no one player is going to clear this game. That much we know. It will require a group effort, which means everyone who can, should be pushing to the front. Maybe that’s you, maybe it’s not -

Nari couldn’t believe her lack of luck – the moment she left the garden, everything seemed to suddenly turn downwards. Frustration driving her, she plunged through a few of the nearby bushes, desperate to find anything that would maximize the finality of her foraging skills. She kept her eyes on alert for anything of a near shiny appearance, glancing once in a while back towards where Onóra waited for her. “I swear, I’m almost done here. I just…I’m so close to getting this maxed out, I can’t leave until it’s done…” She could hear the frustration in her voice as she called out, and she sw -

Nari listened as the player seemed to express an interest in the history and lore of the world. Nari agreed that the whole expanse was beautiful – each floor had beauty to it, in some way or another – but she had never truly taken the time to focus on the lore. ‘Perhaps something I should consider doing in the future...’ As the other player reached out to pet Yuki, Nari shrugged slight – both to answer the girl’s question, and to awaken the little fox. “It went about how most people would expect… I wandered the cold forests of floor four, until I eventually came across my little frie -
Nari hadn’t slept well, and as she woke to the sound of her alarm, she could barely bring herself to roll out of bed. In an effort to enjoy the comfort of blankets and pillows for just a little while longer, she pulled up her menu, scrolling through her inventory, her status screen, even her messages – anything in an attempt to delay the inevitable. She smiled as she came across a message from Onóra, frowned at one from NIGHT – she’d deal with that later… but her hand froze mid swipe as her eyes took on a message from an info broker she had contacted just a few days prior. Nari shifts her gaze to the man, eyeing him up in earnest for the first time. He reminded her of… well, that didn’t matter now. She knew the folly of such actions, and she knew that sometimes one had to learn. Shrugging in response, she’ll keep her tone even and controlled. “I don’t want to scare you. Cardinal will do that soon enough. I just… don’t want to see your name added to the already long list of players lost. Consider it humanly concern, not fear inspired interest. Too many have been lost already because they assumed they had to go it alone…” The words bring a soft touch on -

As they made their way back across the snowscape that was the fourth floor, Nari opened her menu – realizing that her original estimation had been a bit off. Glancing at Onóra, she gave the woman a half-hearted smile. “Hey, uhm…I know we’re on our way back but do you mind if I…” She waved a hand towards the open areas around them. Onóra gave a soft sigh, as if in argument, before nodding. “Yeah, go ahead. I can wait…but not forever!” Nari gave the woman another slight smile before scrounging her way through the bushes along the side of the roadway. There was no way that she was leavi -

Nari paused just before the teleporter, taking a single, final look over the garden. It was such a peaceful place, and Nari loved coming to it so much that she almost yearned to stay. Behind her, Onóra had already stepped up, pausing as she heard Nari stop. “We can come back, soon. If you want to, that is.” Nari wasn’t surprised that the other woman had been able to read her thoughts. She seemed to be constantly in her head, somehow. Nari still wasn’t sure how she did it. Stepping off to the side, she took one final look through the bushes, hoping for a single final prize, before he -

The sun had long since begun its shift towards the evening position in the sky, and Nari realized that their time in the garden was slowly coming to an end. Drawing the dirt carefully, she spent a few more minutes digging for anything of interest, before pushing herself to her feet. Her legs protested, and she had to take a moment to steady herself before she began walking back along the path. Onóra slowly followed her, rising from her pretend slumber with an ease that spoke of the fact she had never truly been asleep. Nari slowed her steps for her, waiting for the other woman to catch u -

Her search thus far had been going more than excellent. She glanced at her inventory, realizing the collection she’d acquired in just this short amount of time. Glancing upwards at the sun, she decided that she could spend another little while stockpiling, gathering as much as she possibly could. It was more than worth her time, seeing as she was here anyways. ‘Plus, it’s not like you have anything else to do today. Aside from dinner that is, and that’s in…a little while.’ She was feeling anxious about that, but there was little she could do other than…wait. And seeing as she didn’t want
