[PP-F18] A real challenge (Macradon, Hirru, Baldur, Calrex)

Recommended Posts

The Bersek Healer quickly turned her head towards Baldur as she herd he mentioning that Jomei would be her husband. "What?!" She asked a sligthly bit louder then intended. "Who had told you that?" She continued, now voice normal. How the hell could Baldur inow about their wedding plans? She could remember that the couple had decided to not make it official until they had everything about the wedding planned out and prepared. Have he already told someone they was gonna merry? If he had told Baldur, who else had he told? "He is not my husband. We are only boyfriend and girlfriend." Then Calrex mentioned that he had been drinking with her loved one. Could be then? That it accidentally slipped out of him when he was drunk? Probably.

Then she turned to the hunter as he tried to get her attention. "Oh, sorry Hirru. Of course I give you my agreement. You can lead the way and guide us thru the swamp. But dont worry, we will be rigth behind you if something shows up." She said with a friendly voice.

Baldur followed along as Hirru led them down to the forest floor and they headed further away from the settlement than Baldur had journeyed. This was almost out as far out as the labyrinth was. The monsters this deep, or rather this close to the edge of a floor could be quite powerful, still, they had a good group behind them.

At least, that's what Baldur thought until the patch of dry land they had just stepped on began to move, and some monsters known as the <<Shambling Mound>> appeared, throwing them all off of their feet and into the murky waters of the floor below them.

With a grunt, Baldur landed on his back, trying to spit on the bitter, green water and rush to his feet. The creature roared towards the sky, and clawed hands the side of a person lashed out and cut down all the nearby trees.

"Cal! Howl!" Baldur called out as he <<Charged>> forward, immediately slipping into the <<Iai>> form, azure light exploding from the saya as each inch of steel is bared and Baldur rockets forward, the line of light bisecting the monster, and a crash of thunder from his movement following him as the <<Shambling Mound>> became stunned.

"On it!"

The animated piece of land that had come alive may have caught everyone by surprise, but it was not enough of an ambush that the creature had a chance to get an opening attack. To his luck as well, because the creature had targeted Baldur before he could gain the top Hate. At the same time Baldur had managed to use a stunning Sword Art attack to hold the creature down in the meantime.

Ripping the Grand Blade II from its sheath he quickly gave a calming breath to focus before the sword began to swirl with light blue energy, the signifier of his <<Howl>> skill. Quickly using his free hand to keep afloat for a second he thrust upwards as if to pierce the sky, the energy blasting outwards like a beacon, the roar resounding as the monster locked eyes on him.

Finding a nearby root Calrex quickly pulled himself to his feet, droplets of water falling off of his armor. It was a bit of an ordeal to try and swim while wearing the heavy hunks of metal, so it was good he was able to find a place to pull himself out before he lost the stamina to swim, "Alright, go for it guys!"

Going off road was what seemed like the best decision at this point, and so they would. Hirru as their main scout, looking around the field for any dungeons, with Macradon behind him, trying to do the same. It wasn't too easy to find a dungeon up here, at least Macradon had a hard time trying to find anything in this place. He would let out a deep breath alike a sigh as he would wander through the swampy soil of the 18th floor. Steeping around in the muddy waters, Macradon would hear a ruckus beginning to erupt right in front of them. Macradon would grit his teeth as a Shambling Mound would appear before them, ready to attack at any moment. Baldur would be the first to engage, landing a perfect hit that would stun the giant monster. Calrex would be the second one to go in, using his Howl to grab the attention of the great monster. Macradon would see this as his opportunity to go in.

Taking off the sword from his back harness, Macradon would go into a low stance, a neben guard with his sword leaning on the ground behind him. He would assert a slight balance change to his left leg, the one standing the furthest forward. As he got into a nice angle, his sword began to slow in a bright orange glow as his <Charge> skill would begin to take off as well, sending Macradon forward in a straight line at speeds greater than any running being. As Macradon got up to the monster, he would swing his sword from the ground in a single, and extremely powerful, horizontal strike, cleaving right through it with his might as a big red mark would be left behind on the monster's torso. "Hngg .." he would mutter as his bleed did not activate, it nearly never did, which annoyed Macradon a lot. As he was stuck form the cool down of his sword art, Macradon would call out @Hirru "Jade Hunter, your turn!" he called out.

The murky waters and mud covered lands seemed to expand before them, far more than any floor that he had seen below.  Even more so were the horrors that would be seen.  The first would be the Shambling Mound that would assault them as they passed.  Thankfully, he was in the company of higher leveled players that had much more powerful arts than himself.  Unfortunately, he would have to add his part, if they were to deal with the mob in a timely order.

With a straight attack, the unarmored hunter struck out at the horrid creature, but his strike would have drifted slightly to the left.  The mind's eye seemed to perceive the world slowly as his Concentration skill would be activated, and the drifting art would be corrected in a second.  The damage dealt would be a small amount, but that would be his max for the time being.

It was good that the group of frontliners was together with the hunter, or that was what Zandra thougth, since not many moments later, a creature jumped forth to assault them. Before Zandra could even react, Baldur had jumped in to deal the first strike. His katana made a rapd slash and made a red stripe on the creature, dealing  maybe not as much damage as he could do, but he stunned it. Probably since they didn’t knew how strong it was. What if it had a crazy strong attack that would even hurt Calrex. The man in question next let out a howl after her favourite blacksmith entered the combat and dealt a rely huge amount of damage to it. Next up was the hunter and after the attack he let out that she was up. She took a steady grip of the axe and <Charged> the mob and letting the system take over her motion as she activated her Screw dimension, making one single strike that hurted the enemy, followed by a shockwave making more damage. ‘’Baldur, I give the rest to you.’’ She said and backed away to give room for him.

Baldur took Zandra's instruction and launched himself at the Shambling mound, but he managed to mistime his attack with the creature breaking free from Baldur's stun. It swung a massive hand to attach Baldur, but the two blows collided with incredible power and rebounded from one another, causing both of them to stagger backwards.

"Dammit! Cal, he's yours! Finish him!"

As Baldur continued to stumble backwards, he tripped on a root and fell into the murky water of the marsh, more stunned than hurt, and the damage was mostly to his ego. With a sigh of effort Baldur pushed himself to his feet as he watched the Ultramarine knight. The gaijin samurai was too far to attack, and his charge wasn't on cooldown to re-engage. Annoyed at himself for the gaff, he hurried back towards the others just in case Calrex wasn't able to finish off the mound. Then they just needed Hirru to find them a dungeon.

"Gah, sorry guys."

With a quick exhale in time with triggering his <<Charge>> skill Calrex shot forward, quickly aiming skywards as the Grand Blade II began to crackle with the lightning energy of his <<Lightning Fall>> technique. As the Sword Art reached maximum charge he crashed down directly on top of the monster, his sword piercing dead center with the electrical energy bursting outwards, temporarily illuminating the vicinity in a light blue hue before the creature burst into crystals.

The battle concluded the bluenette resheathed his sword, breathing a sigh of relief as he shrugged his shield-bearing shoulder, looking back at the others, "Well, that's one strange creature down for this area. How are we in terms of locating a dungeon?"

The fight was over, quite quickly that was. Looking over around him, even with his Search and Detect, he wouldn't be able to spot anything at all. "Gosh ... I can't seem to find any, what about you, Hirru?" he would as the Jade Hunter. If Macradon couldn't find anything, Hirru probably could, he at least hoped so. There wasn't too much in the search of a Dungeon, Macradon had done it a lot himself, but having another scout on the team with them certainly helped their chances of finding a dungeon quicker. There wasn’t much for anyone else to do than to look around for a possible opening to a sub-dungeon. Maybe Hirru had a plan or tactic that Macradon didn’t know about, maybe Hirru really was that good at scouting. Macradon had no idea for what he knew, but it would probably be something he would experience at one point or another.

The fight went well, and the shambling mound was destroyed quite fast.  Everyone performed to the best of their abilities, which seemed to surprise the hunter most of all.  He had to take out all of his accuracy items to search for the sub-dungeon, and could still hit the creature from his disadvantage.  Of course, he had to use his Concentration skill to perform it, but it was still within his ability to try.  Maybe, he really was ready for the front lines, but that was for another time.

With the destruction of the Shambling Mound, the hunter found that he had gained enough skill to level further into Search.  It was enough, coupled with the Rank Up and Luck items from Baldur, that he could see something glowing next to where the Shambling Mound had spawned from.  It seemed to be a singular rotted tree, but the glow seemed to come from underneath.

"Hey!  I think I got something.  Lend me a hand."

With their help, they seemed to be able to push the rotted mass out of the way to find a hole with a ladder going downwards.

The filthy creature was defeated, and as a result, it seemed that Hirru had found the dungeon. That was awesome, now the real challenge bagun. Hirru had started to push away the rotted mass and I quickly went up to help him as he asked if someone could lend him a hand. ‘’Absolutely hunter.’’ When it was removed, a hole reveled itself, together with a ladder leading downwards. ‘’So, time for some dungeoneering ey’?’’ I said with exited voice. Probably it would be best to let Calrex went down first since if there was any ambush, he by far had greatest chance to survive. Thou my eitment for a dangerous challenege was to great and I walked right pass Hirru, started to climb down the ladder. It felt like it was going on forever, not until after like two minutes I could finally feel steady ground under my feets. I took a few steps away from the ladder to give room for the others to come down. I also started to brush of the dirt that had got stuck on my armour. On some places the hole had been to narrow for my shoulderguards so large chunk of damp ddirt had been scratched of and falled down on the ground at the bottom of the ladder. ‘’Great work in finding the dungeon Hirru, I guess now its time for us to start to get to work.’’

They had descended deep into the strata of the floor.

Baldur had occasionally found dungeons that seemed to go deep into the earth, to the point where he wondered if they might not eventually reach the floor below, but this was the deepest and darkest yet. When finally the ladder that they climbed opened up into a larger chamber, it was only a strange, otherworldly light which filled the room around them. The eerie green and blueish light seemed to come from some sort of fungus growing upon the walls of the cavern, but never in sufficient quantities to feel like adequate light. All around them on the floors of the cavern chamber were smaller pools of water which seemed to have dripped from the ceiling to fill the uneven floor. Giant columns sprung up from the floor and twisted in an unnatural way as if they belonged to some strange shelled creature's tentacle.

Letting out a low whistle of amazement at the sight before them, Baldur caught himself as the sound echoed and reverberated around the chamber and then down several areas that looked like tunnels leading off into other parts of the dungeon. It was impossible to guess from where they were which ones went to other chambers, which went to dead ends, and which might lead them no-where. Above them was only a tiny pinprick of light which made up the hole they had climbed down from.

"Well this is certainly an impressive dungeon, Hirru. Very different from the lower floor ones I'm used to soloing."

Turning to Calrex, he gave his kouhei a thumbs up and then loosened his sword in its saya.

"You ready to take point, big blue?"

"Heh, when am I not, right?"

At Baldur's query Calrex gave a nod, drawing the Grand Blade II as he rushed into the tunnels of the dungeon. Upon hearing the sound of movement not far away. Turning to face the sounds the Ultramarine Knight caught sight of what appeared to be four amalgamations of pieces of swamp that had formed together into four creatures. Quickly triggering <<Charge>> his sword shined light blue as he activated <<Rage Spike>>

Quickly ripping through the four creatures he felt each of them manage to tap his armor, seeing his health drop. But at the same time Thorns triggered, shredding all of the enemies before they burst into crystals. Giving a small sigh he lowered his sword, "Alright, that's four down so far!"

Hirru was fast, he spotted a dungeon quite quickly, Macradon was impressed. “Alright, leads head out” Macradon said as the party would go down into the dungeon’s entrance. Calrex was good to start out as he went to defeat 4 foes, Macradon would follow up and do the same. The party of 5 were quite so experienced with sub-dungeons, so they all knew that they had to defeat some minions before they could head for the boss room. He did not have much time to look at the scenery in front of him as he was all focused on fighting right now, it was a great challenge they had to go through. As Calrex had slain the first batch of four, Macradon would keep on pushing through the minions. He would rush in with his <Charge> skill and decimate them without even thoughing most of them. A single pommel strike so hard to one of the Abominations would return in a shockwave of damage dealt to the three others as well. Macradon could visually see them cringe from the sheer force Macradon hammered the pommel into their friend. He would pull back the handle of his two-handed sword and would hold it down with one hand, resting the blade on the ground.

The cavern was much larger than the hunter would have thought.  For being on the eighteenth floor, the hunter thought that the underground areas would be more of the broken ruins or caves that he had explored many times before.  This was much different than those that came previously.  The structures that seemed to twist and turn through out the large main area seemed to show the age of this place.  Caverns were created through erosion of the earth by underground waterways.  The process would take thousands of years, and by the time the water had receded, most of this was formed.  The hunter always liked to see the possibilities of this world, and its nature.

That would have to wait, though.

The party was in dangerous territory, and Calrex had already picked up the trail of some enemies.  They were slain only after striking against him.  Then, Captain Macradon would have his go at four more that would try to ambush him.  The hunter found two more behind the last group.  Jumping over his captain, the hunter's sword began to burn an orange hue before striking out against the last two revolting masses, before they could attack anyone else.

"That's the last of them!  Only the boss... wherever it is."

The hunter called out to the rest of the group.  In the mean time, he would keep Reveal on, but the limited lighting was giving him problems.

The sight of the dungeon was just amazing. Looked like nothing Ive ever seen before. Not here, nor in any other MMO game Ive played. Thou I couldn’t just stand there in awe. The rest of the party had already anvanced passed me. I catched up to them with a jog. Right when I was beside them, Calrex charged forth. A few moments later, the four first monsters was killed. Not long time later, Macradon took another four. ‘’Oh, hey. Leave some for me guys!’’ But I was to slow. As two more appeared, Hirru made them disapeare almost as quickly as they arrived. ‘’Damnit.’’ I said to myself. But then I her the hunters voice. ‘Only the boss left’. A smirk on my face and I increased my speed forward.

I saw some different light between two pillars so decided to head that way. When I passed the two pillars, I saw that the thing that made the mysterious light was a purple crystalformation. Just a few dozens of meters, there was a alter made of stone. At the top was a white shining gem. What I saw standing on the altar, made me quickly take forth my greataxe and enter combat. What was standing there was like a mix between a centaur and a faun. In its hands it held a terrifying looking spear. ‘’Finally, a real test.’’ I said to myself. ''You will die little pony!'' I shouted at it just before I activated my charge skill. It was in this moment I realised, Probably I should have let Calrex take the first turn. No, it was now to late to cancel the skill. As I got closer, the boss noticed me and started to charge against me as well. As we both was in range at the same time, I activated my sword art, making a slice towards the centaur, and at the same time, I felt the spear pierce my chest with a green shine. The heavy impact pushed me away and I flew across the room, got stopped by a pillar and fell to the ground.

As I looked up, my eyes went wide open when I spotted the healthbar, both mine and his. My crimson eyes got shiny and I felt my whole body shivering. Almost half my health was gone, in only one strike. Even with my strongest attack, Ive only reduced the boss's health a fourth. For the second time since coming here, I fealt terrified for the possible death that could come anytime.

"Zandra!" Baldur called out in shock as he saw the centaur like creature level a massive blow against her and sent her flying back into a column and her health bar dropped more than Baldur had ever seen from a single blow of... anything. Throwing caution to the wind, Baldur crouched into his <<charge>> position and flew at the monster, unleashing his <<Iai>> sword art to buy them time to recover. Raijinken flashed as the electric sword cut an azure arc of light across the boss chamber and thunder roared as his blow staggered the boss, leaving it collapsed into a heap and stunned.

His blow did less of the creature's health bar in damage than he had hoped, but it was similar to the creature they had fought on the surface, hit point wise, just the damage of this creature was on a completely different level.

"Kill it before it gets up!"

Placing himself between the creature and Zandra, Baldur felt a bit of safety in knowing that @Calrex would be right behind him.

Following up after Baldur's attack Calrex quickly rushed to the front of the group, placing himself between the dungeon boss and his teammates. The Grand Blade II was already swirling with light blue energy as he pierced the ground in front of him, unleashing <<Howl>> outwards and gaining the attention of the creature. Removing the tip of his sword from the ground the bluenette quickly exhaled to center and focus himself, "The Stun should still be in effect for a bit longer. Focus this thing down some more before it get a chance to act!"

"It's a good thing we got in when we did. With the power level in general of this floor, we shouldn't be taking anything we encounter here too lightly. Given a couple more successful hits Zandra would have been in serious danger."

Flipping his sword into a reverse grip he nodded over to Macradon, who was the next to strike. The two-handed sword wielder should be able to deal another large chunk of damage, and if Hirru followed up with his own then the group should be able to defeat the creature before it could attack again.

The boss had finally appeared, now they only needed to slay it. Macradon was prepared, just like he always were. There wasn’t much outside of battle that he was used to do just as much. Fighting was his thing, the thing he strived at, the thing he felt alive doing. Planning was a thing he liked as well, not only was it the thing leading to a big fight, it was also one of the great ways he could ‘socialize’ with others. At a meeting, they could all speak together, rather than against each other. A fight like this, everyone were fighting together with each other. Zandra, Baldur and Calrex had already indulged themselves into the fight, Macradon was the next to be joining. He would rush in but all of his attacks missed, the miscalculated something, not too sure what it was he had miscalculated, but it threw his attack pattern off the boss.

The hunter was alarmed when something that he had never seen before happen.  Zandra had shot ahead of them after he said that the boss was the last thing left.  Did she really go in for the first hit?  The hunter would get his answer.  The berserk healer's health was full for the longest time, then her health mysteriously fell to nearly half health in less then a second.  Eyes shot in her direction as the rest of the crew took position between her and the boss creature that assailed her.

"..."

No words.  The hunter was already racing towards the Ancient Guardian as fast as his body could take him.  He didn't know why, but the sight of one of his fellow party members being blown away like that, it put something in his mind that he had not felt in a long time.  An emotion that seemed to control him more than it should.  It made him forget that he was even there.  Before the hunter knew it, he was behind the Ancient Guardian, facing away as the orange glow of Oath, and the stiff cooldown of Meteor Break brought him back into reality.  The feeling of something in his off-hand made him look down to find one of the Guardian's horns.

"..huh?"
