As she scanned almost angrily at the box with her own face chibi'd all over the wrapping paper like a further insult, the bow sat squarely with a little label that dangled in filigree. A knife from her belt is slid out, and checking it for trip wires she finds it wasn't rigged to blow. But even still she perched and tensed up as if expecting to need to make a hasty retreat. Instead of an explosion, she finds a little bottle of glowing flakes in a bottle and a new fishing line sitting squarely in the box. What was clear irritation was now moving the part to fake, as she pilfered the fishing line and tucked it neatly into her clothing. The wrapping paper around his gift was a garbled mess of tape and green shiny paper, like someone's failed attempt at wrapping it up. The label misspelled and some of the letters backwards in crayon. It was perfect, and was pulled straight from fond memories. Pulling what bit of tape he could muster, it does take him a moment to get it open given the wads of scotch tape. Inside he finds but a single photograph, and a small bent to hell hair light blue clip that couldn't possibly function. Wiping the corner of his eye to remove his tears with a joyous chuckle, he kisses softly the photograph before tucking it into his armor for safe keeping. Such a gift was greater then any amount of treasure. A slight sour note as if someone had ripped through her history and had pulled it into the real. It mirrored a number that sat in her own home around this season. From the side she seeks out and finds the little dangling tag. Simmone But it wasn't printed, but in handwriting from what looked like an old quill. Simmone's heart sank as she read it, as if in disbelief and shock. It breathed to so many questions that she was desperate to solve. The only thing she could do to find them was see what was inside the package. A tug of the ribbon sees it become limp and fall away, allowing her to lift the lid and begin to dig through the tissue paper inside. What she finds is a book. Yet her feet slow as one snags her attention far easier. Her normally cheerful expression becomes one far more somber, quiet for one of the only times it had ever been during her entire stints in Aincrad. Her stroll moves slow, sluggish like someone dazed walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. All the while her attentions locked dead to that little seeming benign package. Sitting down and inhaling sharply, Shiina pulls it into her lap. White sparkle flecked paper, the little fluff on the top looking almost like a wedding veil or frost on a window. Tearing off the top in one quick stroke, the girl flicks the lid open and even the inside was right down to the color. Through the squared box she tilts and pulls back the tissue paper, quickly at first but then her movements slow. From inside she pulls out a snow globe about the size of the palm of her hand, and those that knew her would expect her to break it. Yet instead, Shiina cradles it gently like carrying an infant. A sniffle escapes her nose, as she starts to wail. Were they of joy, or sorrow? Hard to tell by looking at her. The only fact was, this wasn't at all what she expected but was far more personal then most would realize. The globe held little colored music notes instead of snow, and the turn of a key makes it tick in the faintest of notes like a music box. The best gifts are the ones you'd already got and had returned. ERROR 1 Posted 16 hours ago #6 Share Posted 16 hours ago Through the sea of gifts that sat idle beneath the massive pine tree that glowed with tinsel and lights. Players around seemed to dig through the mass and find packages addressed to them, and deep down ERROR felt that pull as well. It moved without reason or designation, as if without purpose as it navigated that tide of color. Its sights set on something so utterly mundane and plain. A small box no bigger then the palm of ones hand, wrapped not in festive paper but in brown. Simple, unassuming. Down it kneels as the robe billows out, and as its picked up the label is indecipherable and distorted beyond understanding. Yet ERROR would act as though it were legible. The parcel is pulled apart deftly, revealing the round lid of a chest that is then opened like a velvet case for a ring. Inside but a single rough looking pearlescent gem that once exposed to air seems to shatter on its own. An exhale almost in relief from them conveys something beneath that cowl, but given its posture and lack of features ERROR conveys nothing to what it was or what it was meant to be. Perhaps it had served its purpose, or perhaps not. Even still, the small box is placed down where it rested for it was no longer needed. It was an interesting escape from the trials of floor 26, and the festival really gave her the chance to relax. Spotting a small little box addressed to her, the label being perched just right for her to see it from a cursory glance. A little thing in black paper and deep red bow, she picks it up and turns it over. "This some kind of joke?" Her expression showed one of outrage, but as to why she doesn't say. The box in her hands is ripped open, and she unfolds it. Sliding it over from its center, the outer paper comes off. Opening it slowly she checks inside and what was her sparked fire is snuffed out, the lid is shut abruptly and she looks back and forth to confirm no one saw its contents. "Huh, think I'll come tomorrow." The girl quipped a lot more calmly then her usual teetering rage. Squarely on its top in black sharpie was her name in cursive plain as day. Ruri quizzically tilts her head, and moves closer to check it out. A couple bolts in his arms, he keeps having to stop and navigate around people who stop dead and start staring stupidly at the festivities. "Get the fuck out of my way." Anton shrieks in his most scrooge like impression. Through the bustling streets, he continues down the paths and trips on something. His foot caught he turns around and aims to kick it out of the way. But what stares back is a little striped box in black and white, quite like beetle juice in its composition. Addressed to him, the dude lowers his foot. "The hell!?" He looks back and forth, before returning his sights to the box. A lean to get the bolts of fabric settled in one arm so he can actually pick it up, Anton retrieves it and tears a corner. What was inside has his expression soften as much as it could for him. Her face cherry red from ice skating for the last couple hours with a group of her friends. This breather because her legs hurt, and from her side she claims a little paper cup of hot cocoa. Wandering through the crowd of people, she cannot help in share in their joy. Although the slight tinge of loneliness starts to set in, given no one she knew to hang around with around this season she had access to. Sucking on her drink as she'd wade through the gathering, she nearly spits it out when she sees the little pastel yellow box with her name dangling off its bow. "For me, huh? Who?" She scanned around it for someone to make eye contact with, yet no one seemed that focused on her. Leaning down and struggling to keep a grip on it as it continues to slide out of her mitts, she uses her knee to keep it up. A pull of the bow has it ripped open. Inside she's expecting some accessory or fashion item, maybe some tickets to something cool. But instead what she finds is a plain black cell phone, with its screen cracked. Deader then a doornail. The whole place was brimming with but a single gift for every player in aincrad, and as a result players from all walks were littering the place. Her goal was simple, to collect her proprietors as well as her own. The long rectangular box under her arm was for her boss, the small little envelope was hers. Inside was documentation, cited and notarized down to every signature and cliff note. Something so utterly boring to most was absolutely invaluable to the woman. With a sharp gaze, she'd move silently for the warp pad. This parcel needed safe keeping now more then ever given it had already been lost once, she couldn't run the risk of that occurring again. Even if it were in Aincrad, if she were able to take photographic evidence of it and prove it genuine she could deal a lot of damage. There were the traditional fir trees, decked with holly and all the other things the songs loved to go on about. There were yule logs burning, minefields of mistletoe, tall and shirtless bronze men with pig-heads, and banquet tables of eggnog and desserts. Acanthus backpedaled for a moment. The statutes… those weren’t usual Christmas fare, right? Her family did Christmas, but they were never crazy about it. Just a few gifts and a family dinner. Acanthus herself didn’t care for it much: nothing against the people that did enjoy it, she just never knew what to buy anybody in her family. So maybe… maybe they had just missed the part where the three kings were actually shirtless, bronzed bodybuilders with strange heads? Maybe it was a Catholic thing. But there were gifts, and those she did recognize. She gave the tree a quick bow before picking up her present (careful to make sure no one saw what she knew to be a rather silly gesture to an inanimate object). Cautiously, she glanced down at the materials in her hand, then back to the tree, and then back to the materials again. She reached toward the second gift as though it might explode at any second. Was this a trick? They were only supposed to receive one per day. It was unlikely the game had glitched out and given her a free gift. Was it a test from some unknown quest NPC? If she took the second gift, would Santa put her on the naughty list? Nobody else noticed or cared. Swarms of people marched for the gifts, picking up their neatly wrapped gifts and tearing into them with glee. Not that she blamed them—the rewards were too good to pass up. And just like that, she had her answer. Acanthus snatched up the gift quickly and tore off the wrapping before anybody could stop her. It was another perfectly normal gift. She waited for a buzzer noise, or an NPC to come along and shame her, but… nothing. Her peace remained intact, but no new gift reappeared. Acanthus felt it was best not to get greedy; she bowed to the tree one more time before leaving to spar with the training dummy.
