  4. Today
  5. Aoi slumped to the ground, her body feeling heavy and her breath coming in gasps. The last of her energy had been burnt on her final attack – an attack that she had luckily connected with the creature, bringing her to safety in the final moment. She couldn’t even bring herself to reload her crossbow, the weapon sitting empty in her hand, and the vambrace’s ammunition banister entirely void of any further bolts. She could hear the wind picking up in the distance, a soft whining sound that swayed passed her and seemed to carry on it the howl of more creatures. Not that Aoi could care in t
  6. Luck was on her side as Aoi charged out from around the rock cropping that she had used as protection. The hyena had been glancing towards the opposite side of it, clearly aware of her presence somewhere around it, but uncertain which side she would appear from. The momentary surprise was all she needed to close the distance and slam her hand into the side of its head, launching the bolt just as she connected with the form of the creature. The hyena yelled and slammed into the ground, wriggling slightly as it tried to shake off the stun that held it from coming after her. Aoi didn’t wait,
  7. Her health was as close to fully recovered as Aoi felt focusing upon it. She’d already consumed two of the health potions she’d begun the game with, which was more than she had expected to use on this excursion – not that she was complaining, if it kept her alive. The potions were there to use, and one thing she knew was that in this world standard gaming practices of saving your items wouldn’t benefit anyone, not when even the most basic of creatures could end your entire adventure before it truly began. Flipping her right wrist, she reloaded the crossbow in preparation for charging out
  8. Hiding behind her rock, Sakura focused on recovery her energy and health. She could see the hyena coming towards her, its head in the air as it sniffed out the path that she had left behind. She knew that it wasn’t deterred – not yet, at least – and that it would likely find her within only a few seconds. That means I only have a short time. Let’s make the most of this, then. Focus on getting my health back up, and deal with it after that. One more potion should put me in more than a safe enough position, yeah? She pulled another of the potions from her thigh holster, popping it open and
  9. The hyena moved suddenly, charging towards her with an intent in its eye that confirmed for Aoi that it had made up its mind – scared or not, it would remain to see her to the end of this conflict, given the chance. Aoi stood her ground, waiting at the creature came closer and closer, her hands beginning to shake from the fear coursing through her, and the tension that she was keeping on her muscles. Only once the creature was several steps away did she suddenly release the shot, the snapping of her hand the only motion she’d made following the loading of the bolt. The bolt left the weapon, sl
  10. One of the hyena’s exploded in a collection of shards as Aoi slammed the bolt into it. The projectile, however, fell to the ground as its momentum came to a dead stop halfway through the hyena’s previous form, and Aoi found herself face to face with the second creature. Before she could react, the hyena’s jaw had clasped onto her arm, shaking her harshly to the side and tearing something within it. She screamed in fear and psycho-derived pain, before being tossed aside by the creature and rolling away. Slowly standing, or at least slowly for how she felt, Aoi moved through the motion of r
  11. The bolt snapped out of the crossbow as she impacted with the creature, using the force of her hand to push it away even as she shot directly into its underside. She’d slid slightly to the side at the last second, and with her momentum and strength she managed to force the hyena into its companion, stopping any chance that it could lash out back towards her – a lucky coincidence that she hadn’t considered when making the movement. The moment she was certain the bolt was clear and she could do so, Aoi picked up her pace and moved onwards and beyond the hyena’s reach, spinning as she went a
  12. "I've mentioned it a few times," Wulfrin sighed in agreeance as he started towards the city gate. "As for the bosses, I've only faced off with one so far. That one is a giant bear named Kumatetsu. He's a complete push over, the others I know little about." Wulfrin led the two through the forest outside the Town of Beginnings, via the winding waters of his favorite fishing stream. It twisted and coiled through the forrest until the two arrived at a waterfall that served as its source. Carefully maneuvering maneuvering around the waterfall to the rock face, Wulfrin revealed a hidden cave. A
  13. The spring within the crossbow snapped forward, launching the bolt into the air and sending it flying towards the pair of hyenas. Aoi watched in slow motion as it soared, hoping that it would meet its mark and bring her to a moment of safety, only to see as it slowly drifted lower and slower. Mere breaths from the hyena she’d been aiming at, it landed in the ground and imbedded itself. As if emblazoned by the failed shot, the hyena rushed forward with a burst of energy and slammed into Aoi’s form, once again sending her tumbling into the dirt and knocking the wind from her. She coughed slightl
  14. Her sudden charge seemed to take the hyenas by surprise, allowing Aoi to slam her right hand into the side of the more injured of the two and release another bolt into it. The creature yelped and retreated slightly, making its way away from her as it limped back in feigned pain. Whether it was truly in pain or not, Aoi couldn’t say – and in the moment, wouldn’t have cared. She’d already taken a brutal beating from the creature, and she wasn’t ready to give either of them pity at this point in time. Taking a deep breath, she leapt backwards, landing on her feet a few steps away and retreat

  17. PH *** Post Action: Gathering supplies for Floor 29 Field Boss Timer: 8/10
  18. "Sounds like a plan. What kind of bosses will we be fighting?" Astra walked alongside Wulfrin as they started to make their way through the town of beginnings. Much like Wulfrin, Astra had also been searching the town for supplies for the frontlines, but was having little luck in the Town of Beginnings. It appeared like a lot of others had the same idea, and NPCs inventories were running low as a result. As long as the supplies were making their way to the frontlines, though, that would be fine. "I haven't had much luck with supplies here either, to be honest. It seems like its a bit pic
  19. Did she like her work? It took her a moment to realize Sable meant the game. He had just referenced the frontlines, but still… Thinking about the game as another salaried position depressed her. Swords and monsters, and it was still just an eight-to-five job. She left the question to suffocate with a curt reponse. “It’s alright. You fight things, do quests, and try not to die.” He didn’t press any further in the moment, moving towards the dilapidated church instead. The pair entered and surveyed the room around them. While Acanthus studied the high ceilings for any irregularties or monste
  20. The crossbow bolt slammed into the side of the hyena, causing the creature to scream slightly and lash out sideways towards Aoi’s form, catching her and throwing her against a nearby rock formation. For a split second she felt the pain rip through her body, before she remembered the lack of pain filters within the game itself. Struggling to her feet, her mind still reeling from the believed pain more so than any actual physical impact, Aoi reloaded the hand crossbow on her wrist and brought it up to fire once more. It was only during this movement that she realised the second hyena had closed
  21. Mari seemed to like the statement but the irony was it wasn't really intended to be a joke, he'd met three of them and each one of them were completely dirty. They'd pick and choose who to engage with, and they couldn't keep a single fact straight. Completely incapable ass wipes sitting on a high horse built on lies. Raidou couldn't help but lean closer to the edge of the roof, watching bright tops of hair wandered up and down completely unaware of them both. The duo was completely invisible these two stories up. "So you're not anymore?" "Nope." He'd quip taking the bottle from her
  22. Whatever thoughts Aoi may have had about cheering up and thanking Kaie were driven away as the howls ripped across the otherwise open desert area, quickly turning into a collection of yips that sent an odd chill down her spine. Aoi shifted her footing, turning in an attempt to locate the position that the sounds had come from, knowing that the danger would appear from the sands without warning if she wasn’t careful. The crossbow on her wrist was already loaded and ready to go – modified recently with a pull-string that allowed her to fire it single handedly, a small addition that she had made
  23. Mari snorted, then laughed aloud at the mention of Aincrad Pompous Dicks. He had a point, practically everyone she had ever met who had associated themselves with the APD had their head so far up their ass they could taste their own shit. Mari turned and sat with her back against the wall. It meant she couldn't people watch anymore, but she didn't mind. The overly bright glare from some of the brass was getting to her. Looking up at the sky was much nicer. Gods how she missed the sky. She missed being able to just sit...and listen, listen to life. The players arguing below, to the sounds
  24. Deserts had always appealed to Aoi, in an odd way. She’d found fascination with their entire existence, the way that a barren, dry environment could continue to maintain and provide for life somehow causing an impression upon her. Now that she was in one, however, she found herself reconsidering the interest. Sand blew by her face, leaving her wondering why she had come here in the first place – and more important, why it got everywhere. There’s really no safe haven from it here. It gets everywhere, and you can’t avoid it. Definitely not an ideal, relaxing place…and the heat. This is no beach.
  25. Following along with the girls devious plan, he'd find himself whisked away far away from the damn gremlin that was eye banging everything with legs. Down the busy streets and through an alleyway that led straight to a ladder that would lead straight to rooftop. The sun played upon the brass city in a defiant glare, casting the whole thing in a brilliant bronze shine in a mix of orange. Mari would be staring down at her pilfered bottle, as the man would take a space on the rooftop, a panel sliding of the top and you can hear someone yell from the street below. "Oops." he'd quip but slide back
