  1. Hold me in this wild, wild world. Cause in your warmth I forget how cold it can be, and in your heat I feel how cold it can get. Continuation of New Beginnings. Frozen Lake ❄ Closed to Baldur At the thought of their first meeting, a wry smile twisted her lips. "If I remember correctly," she began, "I about killed you." As her gaze found his, and noticed the humor in his eyes, her expression softened. "Did I ever apologize for that, by the way?" At the very least, she assumed that he had forgiven her, as he considered her one of his closest friends. There was a sudden desire to s

Just think about it. What if your game lags while in the NerveGear. Your internet could be really bad and you would be stuck in a laggy world of death.

  5. Awesome pictures! I'd love to check out Norway sometime.
  6. Sorry for the tardiness, conferences have consumed my life. I'll work on getting all my replies out this weekend. :)

  7. "Ma'am?" she echoed, feigning insult as she shrugged his hand away. But she could not keep the act going for long, and a grin finally split her chapped lips. "I can't be that much older than you. And I don't think I've ever been called ma'am." Her eyes, as blue as the cloudless sky that sprawled above them, were wide and laughing. She clapped him on the arm, only then noticing the weapon he carried. Humor waned into surprise. "Spear, huh?" she inquired, her head tilting just a bit as she gave it a once-over. "I don't remember you being the Balsa-type." Instantly recognizing that he probab
  8. "You were hoping for ghosts?" the woman asked incredulously. Then with a small laugh, she shook her head. "Man, I guess I can't blame you. I'd take ghosts over the alternative any day." Without waiting for a request, she elaborated: "demons, monsters, all that jazz." Despite the seemingly eerie topic of conversation, it was one she was familiar with. In fact, she even had some experience in that particular department. "Ghosts are creepy, sure. But they can't do much to you. If this place is haunted, I'd rather it be by ghosts." After Hikoru took his leave via fairly unusual methods, Lessa

  10. Lessa gave a half-shrug, demonstrating her uncertainty when Beatbox countered her claim. "I mean," she began softly, "this could be a boss, for all we know. A boss with a very elaborate setup, sure. But for all we know, there's a monster waiting outside." The words hung in the silence for a moment, and they did nothing to settle her nerves. More likely, they had unnerved the entire party. Hoping to remedy the situation, she forced a weak smile, and added, "but probably not. Right?" Now her gaze swung to the fire, which Beatbox questioned as Hikoru explored it. "I'm not sure why its here,"
  11. "Beatbox and Hikoru," she repeated, nodding to each in turn. For a moment, she found herself impressed by their polite bows and formal introductions. Her manners had a way of leaving her when the situation grew stressful, but that did not appear to be the case for the two men. At Beatbox's question, the blonde shook her head. "I don't know," she admitted. "Maybe it is some sort of event? I mostly hear talk of people coming her around Halloween, so maybe it is special for October?" She let silence fall momentarily between the threesome, and then she gave a slight shrug. "I can't say for su
  12. Sunlight streamed through the front windows, but it could not cut through to the back of the shop. Instead, the heart of the Wild Rose Forge was lit by the fire in the corner. Its flames danced merrily, the crackling and popping reminiscent of the fires that Alyssa had enjoyed with her parents during frigid Michigan evenings. But this fire was much hotter, the air beside it hazy with the blistering heat. It streaked across Lessa's bare arms, dampening her skin with beads of salty sweat. Though the blacksmith was out of practice, the feeling was still familiar to her, and she did not rush to es
  13. The woman heard the man approaching before she might have sensed him otherwise. The fallen leaves amplified each movement, and made it impossible to move with any real sort of stealth. On one hand, that fact came as a blessing, because she was given ample warning when someone was drawing closer. On the other, the noise inspired a certain sense of foreboding within her; the goosebumps that raced up and down her bare arms had nothing to do with the chill in the air. Furthermore, she wondered what would happen if some entity was able to move without disturbing the leaves. She would never see it c
  14. "New day," Lessa spoke aloud, to herself, as there was no one else in the shop. The smile she wore was easy, and well rested, as she had finally achieved a decent night's rest. It had been some time since she had been able to claim that, considering the violent nightmares and waves of guilt that plagued her evening hours. But the wounds were healing with time, and her own self-realizations had hastened the process. If this game was to be here prison, she could not spend all of her time sulking. There were still some beautiful things that lurked within the confines of SAO. Her own cloud of dark
  15. The leaves crunched beneath Lessa's boot. With each step, she winced, her lips drawn in a tight line of concentration. Her goal had never been to make as much noise as possible, but it seemed as if she were doing just that. In the distance, she could hear the hushed voices of other players, carrying on the evening's cool breeze. The decision to split had been hers, as she did not care to stay out any later than necessary. At the same time, after a full three hours of walking, they could not hardly turn around again and go back. They had arrived, and they had a mission - best to take care of it
  16. The School The large, one-room schoolhouse stands silent among the tall trees. Unlike the church, the bell that once hung in its tower is now long-gone. Large windows, their glass shattered centuries before, allow a player to peer into a place of learning, left abandoned. Rows of desks still face the front of a room, where a wooden desk resides beside a squat, wood-burning stove. The stove is still warm to the touch, and the apple that is perched upon the desk cannot be more than a few days old. But the rest of the room is filled with only cobwebs and heavy, suffocating silence. Those who

  18. The boy turned from her to talk shop with the owner, and Lessa opted to give them their privacy. There had been a reason why Arc entered the shop, after all, and she simply occupied herself with the data he had shared until he was finished. It was only then that she addressed some of the comments the dark-haired player had made. "Set sounds interesting," she assured him. "And as unbelievable as it sounds, he won't be my first mythological god." The memory brought a creeping smile to her lips, but she figured that would be a story for another day. Instead, she moved to the discussion of difficu
  19. It seemed that months always passed before Lessa's returns to her shop. But it always lay in wait for her, as if holding its breath. This time, when she returned, she was humming to herself. Of course, there were things that weighed heavy on her mind. And she was more than a little annoyed with Kranzer for not paying for his sword. But there were so many things to be grateful for, as well. Her little shop, even with its fine layer of dust, was one of those things. It felt good to fill the forge with fire and warmth. It felt right to scoop up an armful of materials that had sat, untouched,

  21. Taken aback, but not wishing to appear rude, Lessa offered the man a smile. "Arc, hello," she heard herself greet, as her mind raced to place him. She had forged many swords, and met many men in her years in the game. In the dim light, her gaze swept his face until the first inklings of remembrance surfaced. She had first met him under a streetlamp, snow glistening in the ring of light. They had met for drinks once, and trained once, and then parted way. He had grown considerably since then, she concluded, though not in physical size. His knowledge of the training locations, the quality of his
  22. Armadillo ☀ Closed to Arc Relief and cool air both washed over her as Lessa stepped into the small shop. She let the door slam closed behind her, her hands already at work wiping at the fine grains of sand that had lodged themselves in her loose-fitting yellow blouse. Or, at least, it had been loose-fitting, until a layer of sweat had plastered it to her skin. She tugged uncomfortably at the garment, giving a small sigh of disgust as she took a few steps deeper into the shop. It was empty, she realized as her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, save for one individual. He was a player, li

  25. I echo the concerns stated above. But I also want to note that I do not feel valued as a player here. With a flawed system and overpowered uniques, a handful of players are all that matter anymore. I don't wish to discredit their hard work, because I know how many posts these higher level players have made. But the system itself needs to be revisited. I've said this countless times, and the response has always been "we aren't going to cater to newbies." Which reads as "we are concerned about ourselves only, as we are the most powerful players." I apologize for being blunt, but it is dishe
