The monster finally fell, just as Astralin was coming to her senses. What had just happened? Strange visions lingered in the memory tucked within her mind, but they would surely fade before long. Astralin looked around her, then looked to the air. Was Astralin still seeing things, or were those...spores? Astralin stayed still for a moment, then looked to her allies. "I'll meet up with you guys later, I've...got things to do."
She then moved towards the boss room's doors, she would be walking a different road. She had other matters to attend to. Before she left the boss room, she noticed one last thing that was off. There were two more items in her inventory. She would pull them out to find...
In her hands...in these hands must have been a condensed form of dark magic.
It was Strange. It was Unnatural. Downright Maddening. She needed to lock this away. Something was wrong with it. It was wrong. No one should have it....
No one...

Maddening Hex x2 (Unique Material); Removes an enhancement on a weapon and replaces it with [Madness]. (This cannot override the Madness enhancement cap. Consumed on use.)

Astralin's healing proved to be life saving...ah, but of course, fate had plans for the whole party. Callisto unleashed that deathly Evocation upon the party once more, devastating their HP.

An uneasy weariness settled upon Astralin. Something wasn't right....no, was anything right at all?
Is it real, is it right, this War that they fight? Is the end in sight, can she really see the light? Does she come in slight, as others show their might? Is she awash and away, far from the stellar array? In the mud she cannot lay, but what else can she say? Can her heart feel the sway, does she remember what happened in May? A feeling so dire, just like right here in this Mire. When a heart burns under a pyre, one will surely start a fire. Justice or Desire, one of which will burn the Liar. Ancient power do I see, is it really meant for me? Stellar heart full of glee, power granted unto thee. Land without a living tree, is there power for such as we? My, my, the Balance Star finds with glee, the new power she can see.

"Grgnblrgghh...."
Astralin hardly knew a thing that was going on around her now, her only way to notice would be the HP meters on her HUD. Most minds would surely blank out most things to put tunnel vision on a task at hand...most normal people, at least.
But Astralin was not a normal woman with a normal mind. Astralin was different, her mind complex. Thus, a different fate awaited her.
Thoughts penetrated her mind. Memories, visions, symbols and sigils danced across her vision. She shivered. She shook. She screamed. Her senses betrayed her, her shivering portrayed her, her mind delayed her."Hrrhrggrrrvhhh..."
Before long, Astralin's mouth was sputtering gibberish. Was this dark magic, coming right from her mouth? How tragic, the battle can't go this south... Was she talking, or was something else talking through her? Has she gone mad, or was something using her to speak to her? Why would the Mire speak to her, instead of the bear of rotten fur? She wouldn't listen to such lure, Rotten Mire, burn, you mangy cur!
The gibberish stopped, then it started again? No, this was different somehow...or was it? "Etims ruo leef llahs live fo lla, thgil rieht em evig, Srats eht em tnarg! Nrael em tel, Srats eht fo eht, Rotaerc Ythgim, nrub ot emit ym eb tonnac siht! Nraey dluow traeh ym hcihw rof ygrene eht, rewop rallets eht em tnarg, Srats eht fo rekam, Totaerc Ythgim! Kaew ma I tub, evila ma I, kaeps Srats eht, evirra Srats eht!"
Was it her speaking? Was it her heart speaking? Was it her Spirit Speaking? All three? Astralin did not know.
Astralin took a deep breath, and a circle of sorts would glow from under Astralin. Astralin herself would also glow brightly, as she reached out her arms. Bright, Soft White Lights would spread from Astralin, reaching Morningstar, Oscar, Koga, and Katoka, washing over them, soothing them and restoring their HP. All the while, more symbols, sigils and visions danced in her vision. Perplexed, her mind shifted focus to them, were they making sense, or was Astralin losing herself? "I see, I see, I see I see I see...."
What was she even looking at?

Was it the lair? Was it Astralin losing her mind? What was going on here?
Shadows, from what had been here and within Astralin's memory, collided, and furthermore, players were seeing some elderly apparition that looked strangely like Freyd. Astralin began stumbling around, bewildered. She didn't know what to make of the things she was seeing. No, no, she wasn't going mad, she was just seeing illusions, and maybe some hallucinations produced by whatever putrid mist was settling around the mire.
The monsters were trying to strike Astralin mad, but for what purpose? Was it the fire? Was she and her party recognized as a threat? What was even happening?
The fog of war was now catching up to Astralin as the battle was now reaching its climax. She could hardly concentrate enough to let loose an offensive spell in this moment. She then looked to the HP meters of the party, and saw someone in dire need. She shook herself off as she started to regain her senses.
"Koga!" Astralin called out as she ran over to him. She got herself ready and began making use of her healing magic. Astralin's body would be enveloped in a soft white glow, and her hands would shine brightly. The light seemed to pulse, as though twinkling like starlight. Astralin guided her hands towards Koga, as mystical circles would appear under Astralin and Koga. A mysterious, yet soothing light came out of Astralin's hands and began surrounding Koga, and the damage marks around his body began mending. Astralin took a deep breath. "Don't hold back, I'll heal you again once I'm ready to cast my healing magic for you again." She told him.
She just needed a moment to make sense of all the madness and chaos.

Astralin thought she'd destroyed all the vines, but it seemed that there were some that remained... They grabbed at some of the scattered corpses, and brought them into some kind of maw within the mire itself...
The Mire was alive.
THE MIRE WAS ALIVE.
...And it was a creature of death that sought to rot anything that wasn't itself, and saw fit to consume or desecrate every corpse it could hold, there was no respect for the dead, they were seen as little more than coals to fuel a fire, no thankfulness for sacrifice, only an unearthly hunger that sought the destruction of all.
The mire cared only for itself, anything else that lived was only unimportant fuel in its perspective...and Callisto was its champion. This was a monster that should not be allowed to continue...after all, should this force of death come loose, it would surely seek to consume the entire floor, and Callisto, now a shadow of whatever majestic bear he may have been, was its greatest weapon. But from one witnessed horror came to the next, as she looked to see Callisto unleash another Evocation upon one of the parties, where one was unprepared for the attack...and Astralin would see Freyd step in, taking both the would-be Victim's damage as well as his own that he'd received...
"Freyd...?"
Astralin could only watch in horror as one of the greatest HP meters among players...was depleted to zero.
Astralin stood speechless, as Freyd's avatar shattered...and unlike the players who knew him, unlike those who were close to him, and unlike Astralin, who was grateful for his helpfulness to her...surely, that wretched mire may only see him as fresh fuel for its abominations.
Astralin's eyes closed, and her hands balled into tight fists. In the blink of an Eye, the Subzero Stormwind would be temporarily swapped with Glowing Embers. As Astralin's eyes opened, her expression changed to one that revealed a sense of vendetta, a will to avenge the fallen, as her handwraps became alight with fire.
Astralin would see to it that this floor is cleansed of this detestable mire and its reeking existence of death. As she set her eyes on her target, she knew just where to start. By working to topple the mire's champion, its best bet against all creatures that live in this present day...Callisto.
"HARROWING PYRE!!" She called out as she leapt towards the beast. She struck with the power she was able to muster, and on impact, there was a burst of billowing flames that she sought to torment the monsters with. She may have failed to ignite Callisto, let alone the spores the Mire provided it with, but perhaps she was able to deter the monstrous Mire. First, she stopped the vines from taking the players. Now, she aimed to put the fear of her inside the creeping rot that sought to take all. She and her allies would be a force to be reckoned with. There will be a cleansing, and Astralin, along with many others, will surely not dare to take this laying down.Astralin stared into the dead eyes of the beast. "You may not bleed..." Astralin began. "But regardless of what element I may need, I swear...I will see to it that you BURN." She declared, as her handwraps flared up, with a justified anguish burning in her eyes.

Astralin watched the party members clash with the boss. after having been freed from Callisto's grasp again, the Tank seemed to have disappeared. Could this have been Callisto's doing? An act of "If I can't have them, you can't either"? Well, now the party was without a full on Tank, and the monster's gaze fixed itself on Koga. Astralin had a feeling she was going to be pretty busy at this point.
But just as she was thinking of what form she should use for her healing magic, she felt something rather unwelcome wrap around her legs and tug at her dress. She looked down and behind her, spotting prickly vines preparing to constrict...and she wasn't the only one targeted by these thorny vines. Astralin was aggravated, but not full on angered just yet. She balled her hands into fists and placed them against her hips. "You do not just wrap around a girl's legs without her permission!" She spoke to the vines, though she was fully aware they would not understand nor care. "And I'll teach you to hurt my friends and allies like this!" She added as she raised up her hands, charging up power in her handwraps. With two swift chops done simultaneously, Astralin struck, and destroyed, the vines holding her hostage. Then she looked to search for the current source of the vines(other than Callisto, of course).
Astralin's eyes narrowed as she saw the larger vine dipping below the ground as its limbs would resurface to attack the players present, she zeroed in on the alleged source as it produced more vines to try and stop her, but they used the same strategy as before, so if Astralin moved quickly enough, she could bypass them and take the vines down. She rushed towards her target and leapt. "Thunderous Frostnova!" She called out as she descended upon the heart of the vines. The impact would cause the epicenter of the vines to sink into the mire by about a meter, while a chilling gust would erupt in a spherical burst on the site of the impact, with a burst of sparks from a large jolt, the sound of thunder accompanying it. Ice would proceed to creep along the vines as a whole, at a truly impressive speed, until every vine was chilled down to the formation of ice creeping along its trail. Then, came the electricity, coursing trough every vine, and these jolts of voltage traveled through the vines, popping, breaking, and shattering the frozen vines, while leaving any victims the vines had grappled unharmed. A second burst at the epicenter and alleged heart of this set of vines, and it shattered.
Astralin got up from her destruction of the remaining vines, then looked to the others that had yet to act. "All clear, go all out!" She called out to them with a smile and a thumbs up.Battle Healing: Astralin recovers 14 HP

Why was Astralin always finding weird things? Was she unknowingly a weirdness magnet or something? Just, why?
That bear could have remained in its normal(albeit necrotic and blighted) form, it could have gotten larger and cloaked with an aura, heck, it could have potentially just pulled off one of those two handed, double bladed battle axes and got up on two feet to rage like some kind of Bearserker...
BUT NOOOO, IT JUST HAD TO GO THE ELDRITCH TWIST ROUTE.
Astralin witnessed the beast(or whatever in oblivion that thing was at this point) grab three different players, including the Tank of Astralin's party...again. Oscar would rush in to free the tank, while Koga and Katoka unleashed a combo-attack against the monster. There was currently no need for healing, but Astralin could still offer her support. With another sphere of Energy formed, she looked towards Koga, and made her way over to toss the sphere onto him. Similar to what happened with Katoka earlier, the energy sphere nearly disappeared into Koga's avatar while energy bolts arced through him, revitalizing him slightly. Astralin pumped her fist into the air. "Give it hell, Koga!" She encouraged.
She had to make sure her party didn't falter, and part of that meant making sure her party didn't tire out.

Astralin watched as the battle continued to unfold. There really wasn't much she could do without an emergency. This was a good thing, but Astralin hated feeling useless. Thankfully, her allies didn't seem to be the type to do something stupid...so far.
Astralin looked to her hands, which still had those mystical handwraps bearing the power of ice, lightning, and storm. It was quite the temptation, but this was a Floor Boss, not some Event Boss that was easy in comparison to a beast like this. No, it was far too risky for the current moment. Astralin couldn't risk endangering herself and the party. She had to play on the defensive and stick to pure support tactics...not that she was going to like it, of course. She checked her party, they all seemed fine, though it might be best to make sure that energy didn't drop too fast...
She made her way over to Katoka, and her hands would glow as raw energy would gather and form into a sphere. She then lightly tossed the glowing sphere of light that was arcing with what may have been some kind of bolts, towards Katoka. When it landed upon Katoka's Avatar, it would seep in at a rapid speed, like a sponge absorbing water, except much quicker. Jolts of raw energy coursed along Katoka's avatar as they surged into her, revitalizing her and replenishing her energy. Astralin waved to her. "Give it your all!" She encouraged.

Katoka stepped in between Astralin and the Boss, then Koga would proceed to get Callisto's attention. Astralin was slightly relieved. "Thanks..."
The beast roared out, as if attempting its evocation once more, but it would seem that the monster's madness would fall upon deaf ears this time. Astralin watched as the battle raged, waiting for an opportunity to help. Oscar's attack would miss, Katoka and Morningstar would tear into the beast with their weapons, and Koga would call out a threat as to challenge Callisto. She could only hope they all knew what they were doing...
Astralin was unsure of what to do next. She could only wait for the next opportunity to help...hopefully she wouldn't have to make another desperate recovery from a dangerous hit from harrowing evocation like the last time the boss did that. No, she would just need to keep her abilities at the ready. If anyone started to struggle, she would intend to get them back on their feet.

Astralin returned to the party after consuming the diamonds, but it would seem that her timing was very poor for this.
The entire party would be stricken with some kind of evocation. Whispers and images would flood the players' minds. Wait, did one of those voices sound familiar? No, never mind, it was all gone in a second, but Astralin would find that all three wedges in the Antidote circle had disappeared from her HUD. She also noticed that she wasn't going crazy about the impact when she saw the party's HP. Her party had gone from healthy to struggling in one fell swoop.
It seems that the frontliners, as well as Astralin herself, had severely underestimated the potential of this monster. Astralin pulled out one of the mass healing crystals she was given. "Koga! Here!" She called out, tossing a crystal to him. Now she needed to cast some healing magic immediately. Astralin positioned herself, and took a deep breath. She tapped into her addon of her healing skill, and soon a circle of sorts would glow from under Astralin. Astralin herself would also glow brightly, as she reached out her arms. Bright, Soft White Lights would spread from Astralin, reaching the five players of her party, washing over them, soothing them and restoring their HP. Astralin would top this off by crushing a Mass Healing Crystal at the end of her "spell", restoring the party's HP further.
Astralin exhaled slowly as the glows faded. She then looked forward again, only to meet eyes with the boss. The beast had locked eyes with her, as if it had figured out what she had just done. Astralin was filled with shock. "Ah! ...I could use a little help..."
Astralin couldn't hide her worry in this moment. Someone had to catch the beast's attention. Fast.-Battle Healing: Astralin recovers 14 HP

Chaos.
While that was to be expected from a battle like this, Astralin did not anticipate it to such a degree. She could only hope it didn't get worse. "Is this what War is like...?" She wondered.Koga came over to Astralin's side to see if she was alright after she'd tossed up the contents of all her buffs. The statistical effects remained, thank God, but it was definite that Astralin just emptied her stomach at this point. Astralin had begun to take a breather in an attempt to curb the nausea. "I'm...urp-, fine. Thanks, Koga..." She responded. "Now go, stand and fight! I'll use my magic when you need me, I'll be ok..."
Koga charged into the battle proper, and Astralin would see the devastation that struck the other parties. One of the parties received a brutal roar that nearly crippled them Astralin could only hope and pray that her party wasn't next. She squinted her eyes as she looked, indeed, NIGHT was in that party. Astralin could only hope she was ok.
Astralin looked to her next task. Diamonds. She never thought she'd be doing something like this, but, well, it is what it is. She started swallowing the diamonds whole, one by one(What? You can't chew diamonds, they're freaking diamonds!). Hopefully this wouldn't take too long...

Was it the rush of blood? The Rush of Adrenaline? The sensation of overwhelming dread? All three, perhaps? What Astralin knew is that something felt wrong. Horribly wrong.
And the stench was even worse.Everything that was alive within the arena quickly withered. This was no place for life in the area's current state. Astralin did her best to keep it together, both physically and mentally...though the oil sitting in her stomach didn't exactly make that easy...nor did the rotting corpses scattered around the arena, littering her vision with such grotesque views. She gulped, not out of fear, but of stopping round one of the bile roiling within her. At last, the beast was within sight... It was a Bear. Clearly it wasn't just any bear, judging by the look of it, as well as the eyes that lacked any iris or pupil, not to mention the necrotic taint and all the weapons of slain warriors sticking out of the beast. It may have been the size of a normal bear, but it was probably the kind of beast that would make Mordieu look like a chump. This creature was the floor's biggest threat, no doubt about it. After all, isn't that what was to be expected of monsters like these?
The others began their attempts to kick off the raid proper. Once all were finished, she heard a command to go on the defensive, and nearby there were some of Oscar's consumables still set up. Was this a command from her party? Was it from another party? Was it perhaps, from a higher being? Well, this was her first raid, so it was probably for the best that she takes a more defensive strategy...but if only one of the buffs she needed wasn't stuck to a tub of Lard...ew.
If she swallowed the diamonds whole, she could handle that with little issue, but the tub of lard? That's worse than the oil...ew. What didn't help was that the setup was now amidst the arena, surrounded by mire and corpses. Her stomach twisted, and she forced a second round of bile to stay down. Well, it was now or never. She hated the taste it left in her mouth, and she had to keep her eyes closed throughout most of the process, for the sight of the surrounding area, as well as the knowledge of what she was tasking in, was not a sight her systems were willing to tolerate in this moment, in its current condition. Soon she was notified of a change in her stats. Protein had faded and was replaced by Overhealth. Unfortunately for Astralin, this was where her stomach declared the final straw.
She frantically accessed her inventory, looking for a cloth or rag she could make use of. Before she could pull anything out, however, the menu window disappeared, and Astralin knew exactly why. Unable to keep it down any longer, she turned in the direction of a chunk of nearby carrion, and out it all came. The rotting matter must have been so decayed to the point of using itself to keep itself together, for when the vomit landed, everything that wasn't bone slid right off and into the growing puddle of pure mess that was now forming in the mire where the carrion once stood. Astralin turned herself away with her eyes closed when she was finished, for the sight would probably make her feel even more nauseous. She returned to her inventory and pulled out a rag to clean herself up with.Hopefully this is where the worst would end...hopefully.

Astralin was making her way over to the location of the boss room's door, hopefully not late, she was definitely running late. She would, however, be assaulted by the stench of death in the air as she arrived. now she suddenly wished she'd brought air freshener that was capable of working outdoors. An alchemical concoction would have solved this, but Astralin was still in training.
First she ran over to Oscar, who'd set up some feasts for their team. They were kind of...unusual, Astralin would realize. The Blue Cow, the Giant Egg, the odd drink that tasted like oil- Wait, this actually is oil, what the heck? Astralin blinked, this was weird, she needed something to wash all this down with. Soon Katoka offered two items to Astralin and Morningstar. She applied the antidote and quickly downed the draft of keen edge. At least it left a better taste in Astralin's mouth than the cooking oil did. She then shook herself off, and looked to see Koga, who tossed her a pouch of Alchemical Crystals. She caught them and looked at them, and Koga told her not to worry about the cost. Astralin nodded her head and ran over to give him a quick, friendly hug. "Thank you sooo much for helping me out, I was in a real time crunch pickle! I'll do my best to keep everyone alive!" She said, trying not to be jumping up and down in her thankfulness.
She then looked to her party members, then to the door that would soon be opened. A sense of dread washed over Astralin. Hopefully this was just pre-battle anxiety and not an omen of what was to come. She did her best to shake it off, she was in for it now, and so were everyone else in her party.

Morningstar took the items to the back, and came back with two items that Astralin was happy to receive. While she might be able to find some use for Yellow Dragon, she was more excited about Subzero Stormwind, in all honesty. A faint Glow from Yellow Dragon showed promise, so she accepted the item and placed it in her inventory. When she took hold of Subzero Stormwind, she could practically feel the power within. A stormy combination of the powers of wind, ice, and lightning dwelt within these mysterious handwraps. Astralin was nearly jumping up and down in excitement. A beaming, bright smile on her face, her eyes lit up like a starry sky, and great powers in her hands. "Thank you thank you thank you sooooooooo much!!"
Astralin was further surprised that she'd end up keeping both items free of charge due to raid preparations. She actually ended up unsure of how to respond further, other than further thanks. Perhaps one day she'd repay his kindness anyway...
Astralin accepts the following:

Arabelle was intrigued by Astralin's decision to stick to magic, and mentioned that she was a scythe wielder herself, how that was also unlike the norm. She stated that she'd like to know more about Astralin's magic later on, but for now, there was a meeting to attend, and she brought sweets. Astralin happily accepted a honey glazed donut. "Wow, thanks!"
It wasn't long before the actual meeting started. Astralin made her way to some seating. She would listen to the various players and their points. Mentions of rot and decay, potential for necromancy on the enemy's side, One player's mention of possibly fighting in the dark... "Maybe I should add different utility skills to my magic...? Hopefully I can do so without hurting my build overall as a whole..." Astralin thought.
Koga mentioned the usage of Area of Effect Stun arts. "Hey...That's what Surging Strikes can do!" Astralin thought.A player named Bahr mentioned how undead were nowhere to be seen on the floor, but animals that were mutated into monsters existed. Was this floor boss going to be an alchemical beast, or a dark magic monster? Both, perhaps?
Freyd had a lot to say, and while there were a good few points and obvious tips in his words, it was a bit hard to keep up with everything.
The conversations continued. Astralin decided to stand up. "Hi, for those who don't know me, I'm Astralin, Magic User by personal preference and soon to be TECH specialist." She equipped one of her current sets of handwraps, Zero Degree Chill. "Currently, my magic is able to fill in both DPS and Support Roles, using unique powers and elements to lay waste to enemies, and using some more restorative abilities to heal and assist allies." She explained. "And with Quick Change, I can easily swap elements as necessary for the situation." She added. To prove this, she switched her handwraps from Zero Degree Chill to Glowing Embers in the blink of an eye.
"As for certain things you've been mentioning, the acidic most likely means not only mitigation reduction, but damage over time as well; an acid-flavored Blight, so to speak. On top of this, the possibility of the boss monster being a savage beast that will consume the slain corpses to heal or buff itself should not be taken lightly, especially if it can debuff us. This suggests to me that its strength is survivability, that it's designed to try and outlast us, rather than simply overpower us." She noted. "Coming in with counters and defensive buffs and preparations will most likely be essential for this battle, as Freyd pointed out. To further assist, I can cast Barrier for my team in case it tries to throw any huge fancy attacks against us right off the bat."
Astralin then looked to the armored shy player. "I found your words very helpful though. Burn may be a good enhancement to bring into the battle, so we may need to keep that in mind." She remarked with a warm smile. Koga's words were an important point in terms of teamwork. "I'll be joining your team then, Koga. I'm sure that having fought alongside you before will help us in better performing as a cohesive unit!" She replied.
For Hirru's words, Astralin had a thought. "It might play aggro differently from other mobs, you do have a point. We can't rule out the possibility that it's survivability tactics include disrupting the purpose of tanks. In light of that, if those who are supporting can make use of healing to keep the tanks alive, we should be fine...so long as the boss doesn't have Area of Effect, that would be devastating for those personally lacking in defenses..." She noted. "...such as myself..." She said, more softly, as she remembered that she hardly had any real defenses to her name. "I think if anyone else has anything to comment, remark, point out or speak out, the time to do so may as well be now." She finished. She saw @NIGHT amongst the gathered players, and waved at her with a bright smile before sitting back down.Well, there wasn't really much to say, this was Astralin's first raid meeting, after all!

Astralin wandered the forests, wondering if she'd ever manage to find any semblance of power she could properly make use of. All these sword arts, and not a single one of them matching her style at her current tier. She was going to need to change this up soon, she couldn't be lackluster forever!
At one point, she found a building, isolated, yet seemingly out of place. This was Treant territory, right? Why would they have houses and stuff around? This lesser clearing, this cabin, what was going on here? Astralin decided to investigate, and opened the door.
The bell rang, and a familiar face entered Astralin's vision. "Oh! Star! Hi!" She greeted with a bright smile and a friendly wave. Astralin took a quick look around, taking in what details she could find and ended up coming to a conclusion. "Wait...are you...an Appraiser, by any chance?" She asked. Before long, she was pulling out some items from her inventory. "I'm in need of some handwraps of unique powers. I can offer some of these to help, if you'd like."

Koga remarked about how he hadn't seen her in ages. She nodded her head. "It's quite the tale. I don't mind sharing if you're willing to hear, of course." She noted. Koga then hoped that Astralin wouldn't hold back if she joined the raid, then he introduced Arabelle to her. Astralin intended to speak to her already, so this was perfectly fine.
"Hi, Arabelle, nice to meet you!" She began. "I'm Astralin, I utilize my own inner power to get things done." She introduced, before realizing she just gave herself an excuse to open up her Skillbook that she'd pulled out earlier. She would open it up, looking at some of her best notes on skills and how she'd execute them in her preferred style, though due to the nature of the skills she had, physical contact was always required to deal any damage. "I prefer to use it and speak of it like magic, I've got all kinds of spells! Healing magic, a mass heal spell, a barrier spell, an energy transfer spell.." She began, warming up and getting a little excited. "I've got some combat magic, too, got the basics, got some fire spells and ice spells, and soon I might have other elements, giving me access to frost spells, flora spells, lightning magic, and more!" She rambled as she flipped through the pages, happy about the progress she'd been making.
She soon turned to one of the latest pages, which appeared to be an attempt to copy what may have been on a screenshot. Based on the style of this particular page's writing and artwork that was clearly traced, it seemed to be in the style of an Asian scroll, involving martial arts and something about water. "And then there's Surging Strikes. I'll admit, I've been having a bit of a hard time adapting this one like my other spells...there's gotta be a way..." She noted, more calmly this time. She closed the Skillbook and brought her mind back to the conversation with Koga's remark about strategies and arguments. "Is...is that really normal? I'd hope not, but..." Astralin wasn't sure what else to say. Koga claimed it was all part of the progress, then a familiar face joined the conversation.
Astralin looked to see Jomei again. Oh, no..."Hi Jomei! I wouldn't say you're underdressed, I wear this dress here throughout my travels. You look great, by the way!" She said with a cheerful smile, doing her best to hide her nervousness in the process. Was it because the man was a ginger rapier user? Such ridiculous reasons for Astralin to be reminded of Leo...
Desperate for a distraction, she looked around her, then spotted a girl clad in armor, sitting down. Astralin waved over to her. "Heeeeey, over here!" She called out with a welcoming grin. "Are you here for the meeting, by any chance?" She asked, hoping the girl would come over and join in.

Astralin had only barely heard of the news regarding the upcoming floor boss meeting, she was already on her way, near fashionably late. She'd asked Krysta and Vigilon if they were going, but Vigilon didn't respond and Krysta had revealed that she was searching for him as he'd gone missing...leaving Astralin to have to pick up the slack on her own. Hopefully there were faces she'd recognize here!
Astralin ran through the coastal sands of Raitoboru Bay, searching for a gathering of players. At first, she had doubts that this was the meeting, it looked like something else had just happened. She did see a face that was faintly familiar, though... "Is this the Meeting Place?" She asked.
@FreydAfter that question was answered, she wondered if there was anyone she knew. She looked and recognized two faces. "Star! Koga! Hiiiiiii!!!" She called out as she waved over to them, walking towards them as she did so. "It's been a while, how have the both of you been?" She asked. "I've been awfully busy as of late, Some unexpected special training was underway for me." She revealed. "Got a neat new Sword Art from it, Surging Strikes. I have yet to figure out how to properly style it though..." She added, pulling out her Skillbook. If any of the players in the area were to pay any attention to the book's cover, they would see plenty of mystifying symbols, as well as star and galaxy inspired design patterns on it. She looked back to the two players she was conversing with, a smile on her face. "But that part should probably come later, It's just nice to see you both again." She looked around her. "So, um...how do you think this meeting's gonna go?" She asked.

It wasn't long before Astralin was approached by Avani, one of the two NPCs whom Shulko had hired. "Welcome to the Carefree Magpie." The NPC began, but things happened differently next. "...Astralin, correct? I've noticed you coming here more often." She remarked. Astralin nodded her head with a smile. "Yep! It's a nice place, never hurts to come here at least every once in a while." She commented. The NPC's expression showed little change, but Astralin figured she'd look prettier with a smile. Did something happen that caused Avani to be this way, or was it just her programming as an NPC? They may have been made by the Cardinal, but in a way, Astralin viewed them as people, seeing that this world was the only reality they'd ever get to have. "Right...So, is there anything I can get you started with?" Avani asked. Astralin took a few seconds to think before responding. It was still the morning, and while spring was around the corner, it technically hadn't even arrived yet...so... "How about a nice Hot Cocoa, with whipped cream and cinnamon?" Astralin asked. Avani's eyes closed for two seconds, as if pondering something. She then nodded. "Of course, why did I expect anything else..." She remarked. Astralin blinked, then remembered that she'd ordered the same thing an embarrassing amount of times throughout her visits. No matter what else she got, she often got hot cocoa somewhere along the line...but that wouldn't change her stance here, the order would not change. Avani then moved on to a table where an NPC regular had just sat down. Astralin wondered what would be coming next...
Shulko noticed the elderly man enter the Tavern. How couldn't he notice? The man was comically short and wearing some tacky odd apparel, it's like he'd come straight out of a kids anime. A man couldn't change his height though, and perhaps he was wise enough to know that sometimes Meta is better than looks, in ways that could even save your life...not like it could earn him any friends, though. The old man climbed up to the stool at the bar and made his order of Brandy. "Coming right up." Shulko acknowledged. Due to his habit of checking the beverage stock every night before he slept, he knew exactly what he was looking for and where it was. Within ten seconds, he'd retrieved the bottle and began to pour into the glass he'd also picked up. Avani would arrive in this moment to hand him two slips of paper containing orders the moment he'd finished handing the filled glass to the elderly patron. "Ah, thanks, Avi, I'll get to these quickly." A quick glance to the two orders, he'd look over to the NPC near him. "Hey, Angie, I've gotta get two orders taken care of and make sure the stock is ready for the coming Lunch Hours, would you mind holding the bar for me real quick?" He asked. The Pink haired NPC's response was delayed for three seconds, but her expression, showing a slight nervousness, explained the pause. "Sure! I-I don't mind at all! Ehe..." She said. Shulko smiled at her. "I'll be back soon. Don't worry, Angie, you've got this." He encouraged, before disappearing into the kitchen.
Avani checked the surrounding area for any tables that have had a change in activity, and spotted a boy sketching on a book. She would then make her way over to him. "Welcome to the Carefree Magpie." She greeted. "Is there anything I can get you started with?"
-
The Carefree Magpie. Located in the settlement of Taft, this is a Tavern ran by a Player with the Username Shulko. It is a roomy establishment, with plenty of bar seating and a spacious dining area. Shulko once worked The Carefree Magpie on his own, but he has managed to hire two NPCs to assist him with running the Tavern, or cover for him whenever he's out and adventuring. With an extensive menu featuring numerous cuisines, European, Japanese,
a bit of American, and much more, it's nearly guaranteed a player may find something to their taste, and the menu is even still, slowly expanding further. With the amount of baked goods produced in this Tavern, it ended up having a separate bakery menu consisting mostly of the many available desserts, though there is yet another menu for all the available Drinks, both Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic alike. One Monday morning, Shulko put up a sign attachment displaying his latest ongoing deal.
"35% off all Drinks from now to the Sixteenth, and 50% off all Drinks on the Seventeenth"
The player to witness him doing this would be his best friend, Vigilon. "So, making a St. Patrick's Day deal or something?" He asked.
Shulko shrugged. "Kinda." He began. "Just thought I'd word it in a way even NPCs could understand. Players aren't my only patrons, after all." Vigilon nodded his head understandingly. "I see... Well, I'd love to stay longer and chat about more, but I've got plans with Krysta. She's heard about some rumor involving some kind of seal, so I volunteered to help her investigate." He noted. Shulko waved goodbye as his best friend left. "Have a good one, Red Eyes, and come back alive, alright?" He said. Vigilon raised his hand with a reply of "Thanks, I'll try."It was only five minutes before someone else showed up to the scene. Astralin came by, wondering if there would be anyone new coming here. "Oh! Hey Shulko! I'm not too early, am I?" She asked. Shulko smiled at the blonde. "Not at all, Starshine, I just forgot to do this first thing after waking up. I mean, it's only Eleven-Fifteen though, what's the worst that could happen?" He replied. The two players would chuckle at the remark. "I'm open right now, so come on in, I'm sure things will get busier soon." Shulko offered as he did what he could to reassure Astralin with his words. Astralin didn't normally come here in the mornings, but she didn't exactly have much to do today, so she figured she might as well show up earlier and hope she gets a chance to meet someone new.
So far, there were only the last of the morning regulars, any players among them must have already gone to start their days outside, leaving only a few NPCs. Slow morning, maybe? Well, Shulko seemed confident that things would pick up soon, so Astralin saw no reason to not stick around. She noticed that the two hired NPCs, Angela and Avani, were already stationed within. Was this simply their programming as NPCs, or did they actually have such hours for whatever reason? She recalled one time she'd come here and they were here late into the night, so in the end Astralin was left a bit confused...but she decided not to ask about it. For now, she would simply find herself a seat and get settled.
NPC/NPC-Player Data:
SpoilerShulko:
Shulko is the Player who owns The Carefree Magpie tavern. While he's gone on numerous travels and escapades, he's done his best to make it work with his Cook Profession and the place he was able to establish with it. He comes across as a bit odd to some people, but otherwise he's the usual geek with a side of weeb. He has a tendency to nickname people he knows well enough, but he's also had several cases of nicknaming people the moment he had an excuse to.
<Angela>
Angela is an NPC hired by Shulko. She is a kind, sweet woman in her lower twenties with a bit of a shy streak, getting flustered from time to time depending on peoples' interactions with her. Working with Shulko and his encouragements to her has caused her confidence to grow, and she's proven herself to do her tasks well, even assisting Shulko with orders from time to time. Despite this, however, she's still a bit shy and still gets flustered or nervous at times, and never goes beyond the bar, leaving Avani to interact with any patrons at the tables. There have been numerous occurrences in which some patrons, NPC and Player alike, have tried to hit on her.
<Avani>
Avani is an NPC hired by Shulko. She is a woman in her mid twenties and is fairly serious. Although she has a no-nonsense attitude to an extent, she's been known to make witty remarks very often, with some occasional sarcasm sprinkled about here and there. Working with Shulko hasn't caused much change in her, but she definitely seems comfortable working with him and seems to be on very good terms with Angela. A rumor currently exists among a select few of the Player Regulars, that she might be a romanceable NPC...but it seems that no one has quite figured out her type yet if that's the case.

(Vigilon Alt[Astralin] in waitlist as a contingency, but really hoping things work out with getting other writers involved!)
-
Astralin was hoping to take on these pirates on her own, since she was capable of avoiding attacks and dealing pretty good damage, despite her handwraps ailments still being tier three. However, Jomei would jump in to thank her, and begin assisting her with these pirates she'd began fighting.
"No problem!" Astralin responded to Jomei's thanks, with a bright smile as she did so. Hopefully, this smile might be able to hide the fact that she was internally screaming, quite intensely, one might add. This was a completely normal interaction, there shouldn't be anything abnormal about it, and yet, there was. Jomei, a ginger who Astralin had yet to properly meet, simply smiling at her as he thanked her for the help she gave earlier. That shouldn't be causing anything. The fact that he had some similarities to Leo, however, despite some of the obvious differences, wasn't doing Astralin any favors.
And then of course, there was where the trouble really began.
That smile. That damned smile.Astralin shifted her attention to the pirates as fast as she could, her heart was beating fast and it wasn't just the adrenaline from the fact that Astralin was in the middle of a battle. She needed to get her act together. "Stop thinking about Leo, stop thinking about Leo, stop thinking about Leo, stop thinking about Leo...." She thought to herself on repeat. "Come on, Libra, you're in battle, get it together!" Astralin shook her head and clapped her hands on her cheeks twice in attempt to get her head back in the game.
One of the pirates chuckled, noticing something was off with Astralin, based on the latest action she took. He chuckled, before remarking, "What's wrong, suddenly ye can't keep focused?" and chuckling once more, in which two others joined in on the chuckling, for the third other was dealing with Jomei, not very well, however, due to the shoulder connected to their main hand being damaged, forcing them to use the other hand. Astralin had something to focus on now that there was something going on and not an awkward standoff.
Astralin began readying her sword art. "E-e-errasifr!" She called out as she unleashed her sword art on the three pirates, finishing off one, knocking another down on his back, and encasing the third in a layer of ice, as freezing energies surged through Astralin's Zero Degree Chill when striking them. The pirate that was knocked down got up with all due haste, just to notice that the ally that survived was frozen solid. "Ice??"
Astralin got into defensive position, ready to try countering an attack if this pirate decided to retaliate. "Yeah," Astralin remarked. "You want some of that, too?"
Hopefully Astralin could stay focused from here on out.Meanwhile, to say that Davy and Jones were probably in for a bad time would have been an understatement. The brunette would deliver a powerful punch to Davy, knocking him down on his rear and almost completely knocking the wind out of him too. "I, Ack, I suppose that's a no, then..." He uttered weakly. Jones growled and pulled up the club. "I always gotta do everything myself..." While he wasn't very successful, his last attempt was able to at least get the brunette martial artist down on the ground. He held his club towards her, ready to strike again if something went wrong.
"You're getting better with that club, Jones!" Davy remarked as he began to get back up. "I'd still prefer my cutlass, this ol' thing is pathetic. I shouldn't have played cards with that fool Barbos." Jones growled in response, still keeping his gaze towards the brunette in case she made any sudden moves. "Well, ye might've had better luck if you saw him pull that ace out of his boot." Davy added. It was then that Jones's gaze left the brunette, despite his arm not moving position. "And ye didn't think to tell me??" Davy shrugged. "Ye told me to keep quiet so you could focus. I pointed, but ye didn't look."
Jones rolled his eyes with a loud groan, before turning his eyes back to the brunette. Davy got a little closer. "So what do ye think we should do about her-"*CRAAAACKKK!!!!*
An axe broke in from above, catching the attention of everyone present. "That the capn's?" Davy asked. Jones looked at the peeking blade of the great axe warily. "No, that's not Loughran's...must belong to an adve-"
Before either of the two could realize what was happening, their legs would be toppled with a low sweep and their heads knocked together before the crashed onto the ground. This was the second time they were both bested easily by a strong martial arts user in this one night. Jones's eyes darted around, realizing that this brunette wasn't the only adventurer in the room. His cursor reverted to yellow as he facepalmed. There were not one, not two, but at least three adventurers in this room. A handful of them scattered throughout the ship might have been difficult but possible, but no, there were just too many of them. The two should have retreated when they had the first chance.
As he attempted to get up, he'd completely leave the club on the floor as he grabbed Davy and prioritized getting himself and his ally out of harm's way. "Come on, Davy, we're getting the blazes out of here."
The pirate who was completely ignored by the players and had witnessed all of this, growled before calling out, "Cowards!" as Jones tried to drag Davy with him as he attempted to retreat, most likely towards somewhere else within the decks, due to a green haired man interfering with the steps they came in from. Jones could only hope that the individuals around him knew mercy, for he couldn't move very fast as long as he was dragging along his half-conscious idiot of an ally. -
To say that Astralin had the time to respond to Morningstar's remark would be a lie, for he took action before Astralin could speak, attempting a thrust towards her chest...which, was definitely not the kind of place you'd want to stab a girl.
Astralin acted on defensive instinct, clasping her hands together in a quick movement and catching her opponent's training weapon, stopping it dead in its tracks. Astralin's shocked expression in that moment would transition into an adrenaline-filled smile, and she'd chuckle as she suddenly tugged, then pulled at Morningstar's training weapon as a means to swing him to her right and toss him a few meters by letting go of the weapon as soon as he was lifted off the ground. She would then close in on her opponent and unleash a well timed karate chop for the moment said opponent got back up on his feet.
"You're not bad yourself, you almost got me a few seconds ago." Astralin remarked. "I'm not going too hard on you, am I? Ehehehe~"
Once she'd added that, she'd give him two seconds before attempting yet another strike, this time towards his torso.

She just wanted to pay her friends and new guildmates a visit. Was there really anything wrong with that? Did everything have to go wrong so quickly?
The moment the quest notification popped up in front of her, practically jumping her out of nowhere, everything hat started descending into chaos...and the moment that really tipped things over the edge was when something broke into the Eleventh Floor, and began spreading some kind of infectious blight within the antman swarms. Before Astralin knew it, she was here in The Carefree Magpie, helping Aurami and Krysta tend to any who were still wounded when entering. This would continue until Vigilon walked into the place, and Shulko got an idea. He asked Vigilon to go on a search and rescue mission, due to the fact that apparently most of the players in Taft were sent outside the safe zone against their will in a desperate attempt to keep the corrupted swarms at bay. Vigilon agreed, though he noted that he'd need healers. Krysta and Astralin both stood up, and Shulko seemed to have the same idea as he noticed them stand up in offer to help. He asked if the two could help Vigilon, and Krysta stated that she was ready.
Shulko would reveal more about the situation, then someone else would enter the establishment. Someone who Krysta seemed to recognize. "How I wish I had come here for more pleasant purposes..." He remarked. Some others seemed to enter with him. "I am here to help, on behalf of the Knights of Vousten." He revealed. Shulko blinked. "Whazzat? 'Fowsten'?" He asked, looking a bit confused, yet also amused, due to his smirk-like smile. "Vousten," The player repeated. "We are here to defend the city proper in case there is a breach, and I also have one of my guild's members here, I'd provided him with a number of Corridor Crystals, which should be able to help. I did not eavesdrop, of course, I was simply messaged by said member about the situation and that there are those in need of rescuing." He explained. "Furthermore, I have some supplies I am willing to give to a rescue team, along with the Crystals. May I ask who they may be?" He asked.
A green haired player got up from his seat, and pointed to Vigilon. "He's the one Shulko's sending," He then pointed to the two healers with both hands. "And those are the healers going along with him." He revealed. The Vousten Representative looked to Vigilon. "I...see...So, you're Vigilon, then?" He asked. "I am Alanin, I believe we may be meeting each other more frequently in the future. Ah, but for now, I do have supplies for the two healers going with you." He would walk over to Krysta, handing her stacks of potions, while the green haired player would walk over to Astralin, handing her stacks of Corridor Crystals. "Here's your share of the crystals. I've taken the liberty of assigning their teleport locations here, as to make proper use of this fairly sizeable shelter, should make the rescue much easier." He explained to her. Astralin smiled, though it seems she'd never caught this player's name the whole time he was here. "Thanks a lot, sirrrrrr..." The player nodded. "Arlus, my username is Arlus. Good luck out there, missssss..." Astralin couldn't help but laugh at Arlus's attempt to make light of this lack of username introductions. "Astralin, I'm Astralin." She said between chuckles.
Alanin must have overheard the exchange, due to the choice of words he would have when the two Vousten players swapped healers for giving their resources. "These are your half of the potions I'm offering, Astralin. They shall assist in your healing efforts when skills alone are not enough." He explained. "And here, some Crystals too, in case there is an emergency that calls for them." He added as he handed her a few stacks of Crystals. "Thanks, Alanin, I'm sure we'll succeed at this rate, at least for getting everyone to safety." Astralin said. Now all that was left was to receive the word from Vigilon, and set out.
