Hanging up her cape and armor outside the door to her estate, the paladin stepped through to the connecting kitchen. Her shop had only just open so there weren't all that many customers yet. That was perfectly fine though. It gave her the time she needed to prepare premade foods for anyone who didn't want to commission something special. Now, what should she make first?
She laid her ingredients on the counter and thought about all the things she knew how to cook. 'What would people really like to see at a Japanese-themed restaurant?' was an important question as well. Her Oyakodon special wasn't something people were that familiar with. Ongiri sounded like a safe bet, and she couldn't really flub making Onigiri. It was as simple as making a sandwich.
She rolled up the rice into it's sticky ball after filling it with some sakura denbu, not the most popular choice for a rice ball filling but one of her favorites and it made them extremely sweet. She added an affect on them and when they were finished, the system copied another serving of them. Her luck was meant for cooking, not gathering!

Nestled away on the border of the safe zone of the town of Coral, one can find a Japanese-styled mansion sitting peacefully next to the main road. The mansion is surrounded by stone wall fence, but connected on one side is a building outside the wall. The smell of cooking food always wafts from the windows and a sign posted outside in painted, handwriting can be seen. Even though it's written in Kanji SAO's translation system allows one to read it as Yuki Izakaya. The building seems like just another part of the house, if not for the sign signifying the shops existence. The doors are open to outside during the day. Another door on the inside leads to the manor it's connected to. These doors are always locked to anyone but Yuki.
On the inside, it looks much like it would from the outside. It's a very Japanese-styled room with kotatsus scattered around. Whether the intent of the shop was to look homely, or it was just put together shoddily was hard to discern. There's room for each table to seat four people. The kitchen actually looks like a common house kitchen, and not like one that would normally be in a restaurant or izakaya. If Yuki is not present, one can ring a bell to summon her.

The pink paladin slid through the shop doors. She had been here before not that long ago, so she decided to return her business to the woman named Ceres once again. With her new home up on floor 22 she needed to make some additions to her crafting space and buy some essentials for the upcoming weeks. Now that she was a crafter, she wanted to take that job a bit seriously just as she took her job as a tank seriously.
An information broker had given her access to some info pamphlets that told her she could increase the amount of experience she gained with an item that was purchasable from certain player merchants. It was called a custom ambition tool. She gave the owner of the shop a wave.
"Oi! Me again! I'm just looking for an item called a 'custom ambition tool'. I already have the payment for it here!" She said setting a sack of col on her counter with the necessary amount.

Yuki gave Mari a hefty smile, as per usual. Her orange clad companion should have known by now that it was hard for Yuki to be discouraged from a challenge as long as it wasn't entirely suicidal. A clang of her gauntlet to her chest-plate sounded as she spoke up.
"I would love to join." Her cheery tune unwavered even after hearing that the quest was more than twice her recommended level. The paladin was already used to weathering quests twice her level, although, she was getting to the point where tier levels were a matter and she could more easily die in fights like this. "Mari, don't worry about me. I've grown a lot since we last talked. Maybe I shouldn't be this high on the floors, but I'm well acquianted with the aggro system at this point. Nothing is going to attack me if I just leave them alone and stay away."
Yuki gave a wave to Oscar and Shiina.
"Mari called you Oscar, as I said, my name is Yuki. I'm a level 11 tank looking to grow stronger, so that I can join the front lines in the future. I'll be glad to join your party. You wouldn't invite me if you didn't think you could handle the danger and I trust Mari with my life." She grinned at her friend, even if Mari said shouldn't be thinking about her that way, she knew Mari would do anything she could to protect her.

Crozeph, Sleepy Boy - Crozeph is a somewhat charming boy that Yuki met in her own shop. He had originally planned to face the Cerberus alone, but found him before he set off. They've spent a decent amount of time together as a tank/support duo and have grown pretty attached to one another. Recent events regarding the two being a bit dense but wanting to figure out their emotions has led them to growing rather fond of each other. Marriage is easily on the table.
Mari, the Pker - Mari was one of the first players Yuki met when she started her adventures in Aincrad. They met at an event called the Star-Crossed Gala, very out of character for the both them. They talked for quite some time before the event ended and they went their separate ways. Since then, Mari has helped Yuki power level herself to and solidify her confidence her want to protect others through her tanking abilities.
Life, the Farm Boy - Life was one of the first friends that Yuki met in her early stages of leveling. They teamed up to face dragons but Yuki found herself getting stuck up in predicaments that were pretty embarrassing for another person to see. She later found out through Life's 'charm' that she could be attracted to men, something she was unsure about before. Since meeting they have slayed several dragons and had many heated conversations about the importance of living in this digital hell.
NIGHT, The Knight - Night met with Yuki on floor 11 where she helped Yuki grind for new gear. It was a chance meeting and she didn't think anything of it until they did the quest "Search and Rescue". With confidence, Yuki can say that Night has become her best friend in all of Aincrad. There's nothing that Yuki wouldn't do to protect Night with her life as long Night will have her. That means stepping over her insane fear of serpents and snakes to help her farm a quest item.
Macradon, the Blacksmith - While she knows that it's his job to supply people with armor and weapons, Yuki can't help but feel like her ability to tank only ever relied on Macradon's armor and not her own skill. That was how lower levels were supposed to feel, but even still, she thanks his craft after just about every battle she finds herself in.
Hidden, the Assassin - Yuki met a peculiar girl on a quest share likely could not have completed without her intervention. The girl basically scolded Yuki, in her own way, for challenging a boss without having the level to defeat it. She only was saved by Hidden's want to kill the monster for the experience in yielded. Hidden intimidated Yuki at first, however, she has determined that the cloaked figure is actually more redeemable than she lets on.
Oscar, the Wiener - A man, presumably from the front lines, who is friends with Mari. He looks formidable and also apparently sells hot-dogs. Yummy.
Pinball... ??? - Not every soul can be saved....
-
It was settled then. Her shop would be located on Floor 22 with her home. One thing that worried her, though, was her inability to serve Mari if she located her shop outside of a safe zone. Mari would probably spit her concerns back into Yuki's face thinking like that, but she would put her house outside of the safe zone of the town. If she did that, Mari would be allowed to visit without aggravating the games system with orange crystal players and safe zones. She also wanted to make special meals for Mari and Life to surprise them!
She would have to spend time to try and prepare amazing meals for the both of them. Promises were made to both Mari and Life that she would supply them with meals for their benefit of leveling and getting stronger in Aincrad. There was no way she was going to break that promise for either of them.

This brought up another great question, actually: Where would she even put her house? Likely it would reside in the same place as her shop, a connected section from her house to add to the homely, welcoming atmosphere. Aesthetic was important to her after all. She would not be satisfied with a dingy little stand in the Town of Beginnings. Go above and beyond and share her cooking skills with the best Aincrad had to offer. Of course, she would still have to increase her cooking skill and eventually max it out to maximize her output, but that should not take her long considering how much she loves to cook. In a few weeks she could easily master it.
There was a limit to how much someone could craft daily, she knew that. It made sense so that craftsmen can't just push out hundreds of commissions in a day if they had the materials to do so. Otherwise she would be able to just farm a ton of materials and maximize her skill as quickly as possible.
-
Now officially able to create beneficial meals and foods for players to use to keep themselves alive in this dangerous world, Yuki would help the higher level players through her culinary success. It would be a good way for her to earn some extra col on the side as well! Question was now: Where would she set up her shop? Floor four was a beautiful floor to visit for the snow, but she had heard the snow literally never stops there and she wasn't sure if she could deal with living in eternal winter.
When she first decided that she wanted to join the front line, she traveled to all the floors' primary safe zones to see what they all looked like. She remembered that floor 22 seemed to make the Japanese aesthetic more than any other in her own opinion. That would probably be the best choice for thematic a approach, but was it safe for her to make her shop on that high of a floor? Well, she wouldn't be weak forever right?
-
"I'm impressed with how quickly you picked that up without much failures." Maggie commented as they walked out of the kitchen.
"My mother taught me how to make sure I didn't melt every dish I made. Her culinary wisdom serves me even still." The pink paladin said with a big smile painted on her face. Her hands sat triumphantly at her sides with pride. "My passion for cooking stems from her. It was a bonding thing." She knew that Maggie was an NPC, and wondered if she would even remember who she was if she returned tomorrow, but it was still cool to be praised for something that she loved doing. Even if the praise was coming from a program following it's coding.
"She taught you well, probably better than I could have. With your new skill, make sure you show every one the delight of a good meal!" Maggie's enthusiasm almost bested Yuki's. Almost.
"Yoshi!" The pink haired woman returned as she turned to leave the restaurant.
-
Her quest ended here. The food she made was sent to her inventory, ready for use in a future battle. It would be savored for sure when she got the chance to eat it. Even if it wasn't the best it could be, it was still an indication of her growth in Sword Art Online. Another step to get her closer to the power that front liners have. If she truly wanted to see her family again before she passed on, growing stronger was the only choice.
So soon, she left the kitchen with Maggie. Looking back on the massive kitchen filled with other players practicing their craft, she wondered how many of them had been there for hours still figuring out how to use a knife correctly. I reminiscent tingle of sensation bothered her fingers as she recalled how many times she'd cut one of one of them with a - thankfully duller than normal - knife.
-
Yuki looked over her meal. It was almost perfectly made according to the game. In the real world, this would have been prefect enough for her taste and really surprise her mother's expectations for her level of cook. A prompt appeared over the meal asking her to give it a name and entail what benefit it would give the consumer upon, well, consumption. It was pretty cool that the effect of the buff was not left up to randomization, though, it made sense in this scenario.
She titled her meal, "Yuki no Yasuuri" and gave it a very fitting effect to buff her ability to tank even further. It would increase anyone's health points for a time if they were to eat it before battle. Weird that food itself could give her similar benefits that armor could, but it made sense for an MMO video game. Those types of benefits could even be reaped from potions if she recalled that correctly. She wasn't too familiar with how alchemy worked.
-
The problem lied somewhere outside the base of the cooking. The meal itself was made perfectly, the problem was that she had not given the dish it's flavor. Of course, she had been using the base ingredients, but there was always more that you could add to a basic dish as she had made with a little bit of seasoning and added ingredients that the prep didn't call for. It took her three tries to see that!
Chopped onions, carrots and a few other vegetables were added into her bowl. With another attempt, success came. She found it fitting to create not just some random dish, but to make something special to her. The first thing she learned how to cook and her favorite meal: Oyakodon chicken and egg rice bowl served with a side of miso soup. It wasn't anything intricate or fancy, but it was nostalgic and homely to her.
"Well, done!" Her consultant congratulated from behind her. "That's pretty good, I'd say it do more for you than you might think it would."
-
Fixing a mistake was always much easier than improving the standard. Her first meal was unusable, her second one could have sufficed anyone's appetite, but her third try wasn't much better than the second. She did everything the same exact way, expecting that perhaps luck had some necessary factor and there was no reason to tread outside the norm for cooking. Was she wrong.
For the third time, she prepped her food as she had, and cooked it as need. It came out the same. Usable, but of no benefit beyond satisfying someone's hunger. Outside of Aincrad, she didn't think anyone would complain about her cooking. She learned from her mom, there was no way she could screw up that bad. She only really burned or under-cooked something when she first started cooking for herself. Third time's the charm is apparently only applicable to respawning material nodes, not when it came to cooking. At least a science existed for preparing food, though.
-
When it came to cooking, failure was the wonderful journey to perfecting the destination of a satisfied stomach. The more she failed, the better she would get, the more she would learn. Her first work wasn't anything amazing, however, she noticed that the materials she had gathered were not consumed upon use. The game was nice enough to give her more tries if she failed then. Thank god.
The food she made went to the trash and she again made the same prep, paying attention to the nitty-gritty details to perfect her destination. It was only now that she remembered just how hard cooking could be. Even with SAO's over-simplified method, you still had to know how to mix and prepare ingredients for the food, of course. She was pretty rusty, admittedly. She hadn't done much cooking in the last two years. Her second meal was much better, it came out even eatable.
"Not bad," Maggie said over her shoulder. "But, it won't benefit you for your adventures. Keep trying!"
-
As she entered the kitchen with Maggie, the waft of the amazing smell of food scintillated the paladin's nostrils. Cooking was a very passionate hobby for her for reasons like this and it was amazing how the Nervegear was able to replicate such sensory abilities to the tee. Without further ado, she set the ingredients down on the preparation table next to one of the many stoves where other players worked on their crafts the same way she did. Maggie gave everyone encouraging advice as she passed by.
"You'll ace it, I'm sure. Go ahead and give it a try." She said to Yuki, once all her stuff was on the counter.
"I'll never be as good as Kaa-san, but I'll do my best!" She said as she began preparing the food. Unfortunately, this try wasn't her best work. It wasn't bad, but unusable by the terms of the game. It would have to be trashed.
-
The trek back to the Town of Beginnings wasn't a long one. She never really preferred to travel too far from a safe zone if a quest didn't require it. Made it easy to retreat if anything went wrong in the field, after all. Luckily that had not been necessary since she began her conquest of Aincrad.
The stone road of the Town of Beginnings met the pink paladin's leather boot with a clonk. Even though the field areas on floor one were less than a threat to her at this point, she somehow found relief in walking through the safe zone barrier ever single time she did it. It took some time to travel back to that specific building though. The Town of Beginnings was a massive city to navigate, though not impossible. Sooner or later, her nose was graced with the smell of cooking food in a kitchen. Time to get her title to cook!
-
The Athens-base floor- er, was it Greece? It looked pretty for its history, not really the looker with this kind of stone work though. Sightseeing on higher floors was nice within the safe zones. She was not going to make a Cordelia mistake again though. How the hell did she even wander out of the safe zone without realizing it?
An orange blur caught her eye in the distance, disrupting her peaceful contemplation, however. Unmistakably one of her favorite people on Aincrad, Mari, was just ahead in the distance. She hadn't seen her since they annihilated those stupid elves, hellos were necessary! The leather boots clonked against the stone road as she waved down her friend.
"Yo!~ Mari-chan." The tiny Japanese girl flashed her a smile. "I haven't seen you in awhile, glad to see you're alright!"
Her attention turned toward the guy she was talking to as well. ""Oi~ Watashi wa Yuki-desu. Yoroshikunee!" She said her introduction with her signature smile to Oscar.

This one has been refined and tempered to produce a truly captivating scent. What an interesting floor to say the least. It was rare to see anything like this in a video game such as Sword Art Online. Not that there was any complaints or anything, she still thought it was a pretty cool scenery. Sightseeing wasn't the main goal, however, it was what that gypsy had told her. Other players walked around with cool little pets that she hear could give special effects to players if you acquired them. They were supposed to be difficult to find and tame though. Knowing her shitty luck at finding materials, she could likely take days to find one on her own. The pink paladin scrolled through her friends list, a smile growing on her face as she realized just how big it was actually getting, and found Mari's name. She clicked the envelop to start writing a message.
"Oi, Mari-chan!
I decided to take a quest on Floor 17,
would you be willing to accompany me
and ensure nothing messes with my searching?Arigatou!" ~Yuki
With a click of the send button and the chimed feedback, stood by the teleporter awaiting Mari's response.

Player House and Shop
House Name: 美誇人の荘園 (Translates to "Mikoto no Shouen" - "Mikoto Manor")
Location: Floor 22, just outside the safe zone of Coral.
Description: A massive, Japanese-style mansion on the outskirts of Coral. Through the thicket of pink cherry blossom leaves, one can find it surrounded by a stone wall keeping unwanted fiends from attacking. It is also home of (Soon to be) Yuki Izakaya, a Japanese Grill run by the home owner Yuki Mikoto. The building is shaped like an L from a bird's eye view, the walls around the plot are shaped in a square surrounding the building. Just outside the building is small garden containing a pond that spawns fish inside.
Plot Size: Estate
Rooms: 6 (Bedroom, Basic Kitchen, Living Room; Dining Room, Master Bathroom; Extended Workshop, Fishing Pond, Slime Farm)(All rooms are currently only assigned to Yuki.)
Shop:(Link here!) (Refer to Kitchen/Dining room picture) Yuki Izakaya is located directly inside her own house. Players can visit this room freely, but the rest of the house is off limits without Yuki's approval.Beyond the photo, there are several more kotatsu tables littering the Tatami mats for several groups of customers. If Yuki is not present in the shop, the counter has a bell with a note written in a cutesy Japanese handwriting that says "Ring for expeditious service!" and a cute drawing of a chibi Yuki smiling and waving.
