  2. Bael stirred before she could even pull the hood back. His hand shot up with surprising precision, catching her wrist mid-motion. The grip wasn't cruel, but it was firm, instinctive. His eyes opened slowly, black and hazy with fatigue. "Poison girl.." his voice came out low, rough at the edges, "…are you trying to poison me?" He blinked a few times, adjusting to the light, and the small glass vial in her hand finally came into focus. Recognition flickered faintly across his face. He exhaled, loosening his hold on her wrist, letting her hand go. "Ah. Antidote." The ghost of a wry smile tug
  3. Arsine awoke, not 20 minutes later - "Ugh..." She rubbed her eyes, her limbs felt sluggish. Noted. She should not eat the truffles meant to take out a boar that was probably twice her weight. The woman was meant to return the bag to the NPC, but he wouldn't notice a few missing. Right? Arsine smoothed out her hair, emerald eyes shifting over the field till they landed on a sunken figure before her. She snorted. Not expecting him to have eaten one too. "True to your word, sleeping beast." Into her inventory the woman went and pulled out a number of things. Two antidotes, a thermos of warm
  4. Bael's eyes had been closed, his expression unreadable, until her words stirred something in him. "Comrades?" he repeated, voice low and roughened with disdain. His eyes opened, crimson glinting faintly under the hood. "Those fools were not worthy of being anything like that to me." A slow exhale followed as his gaze trailed over the empty plains. "They celebrated small victories against beasts that could barely fight back. Laughing, pretending they were strong." He leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees. "The only victory I chase for is on the battlefield against s

She didn't think she was doing anything too out of the ordinary. Not enough for the man to like her. He talked about how others had no fear, no hunger, going through the motions. But..wasn't that exactly what she was doing? How did she differ from others. “Perhaps…not many come here due to…the simplicity…of the creatures.” Arsine sized up the last boar, then lifted up her leg and gave it a firm kick to its side. It squealed
  7. Bael's grin spread slow, deliberate, at her suggestion. "Take one together, huh?" His voice carried that deep rumble of amusement, edged with something darker. "Sounds fun." The idea of testing poison beside a stranger would’ve been absurd to most, but to Bael, it was almost poetic. A dangerous curiosity. Two people dancing around the line that separated control from chaos. His head tilted slightly as he watched her, his hood casting a shadow across his face. Beneath it, his eyes followed the way she moved, methodical, detached, and yet alive in a way most players weren't. He sat dow
  8. Oscar was distracted for a moment. More spiders, more problems. This time, he didn't move from his position. Didn't make an effort to swing. His opposite hand shot out like a bolt, grabbing one of the spider by the leg and then used that one to beat the loot out of his fellows. After his time as Oscar's weapon was don't, he was dropped onto the floor of the cave rather unceremoniously and then subsequently squashed under Oscar's boot. "Well we're a new Guild," Oscar said. "But the goal is to get as many people leveled and geared as we can. If it works out, great. If it doesn't-" Oscar mer
  9. The new guild had to be a very new development, and she and Oscar talked practically daily. Curiosity officially piqued, she did her best to split her attention between the quest objective and her best friend. Murph deserved some level of effort, as they were meant to be working together. But Oscar creating a new guild had thrown her for a loop, and the tea needed spilling before it got too cold. Why in the world hadn't he brought this up on the walk over, instead of waiting until now? Lessa didn't bat an eye as Oscar dealt with the four spiders - they seemed to target him every time they
  10. Anxiety flared within Murph's chest. She was trained well enough that it didn't show. "Least efficient way to level up?" she echoed, gaze tracking from Oscar to Lessa, then back again, checking for any sort of reaction. Was this some sort of inside joke that she wasn't privy to? He couldn't possibly be serious. Her gut instinct was to press further, or better explain her... precarious situation. Given her total experience - zero - and her lack of any noteworthy gear, she was incredibly limited on what she could actually accomplish outside of the safe zones. Skipping the starter quests and

Though…she supposed the AI for the very first monsters one would face wouldn’t be that…advanced. “Look at it.” Arsine said as she crouched in front of the boar. “Maybe I am too high level? It does not care.” She waved her hand in front of its face and it snorted and turned around, shoving its nose into the ground to munch on whatever it had found. “Is this how yo
  12. Bael watched as she moved, graceful, deliberate, the truffle catching the morning light before it dropped neatly back into her hand. The words "Sleeping Beast" slipped from her lips, and for a brief moment, he couldn't tell if she was mocking him or acknowledging him. Maybe both. "Tranquilizer truffles, huh?" he echoed, stepping closer until the distance between them was filled with the faint scent of metal and grass. He crouched near the bag she had dropped, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Yeah," he said, fingers brushing against one of the small confections. "I want t
  13. Oscar recoiled inward, taking a step back as a chuckle escaped his lips. Murph had gassed Lessa up with all the talk about low level quests and her gear, so he didn't want to disappoint the new face by making her think that Lessa couldn't put him on his back. She wouldn't, of course. Monogamy and other such foolishness. But a man could dream. He threw up his hand in a wave, offering the woman a polite smile. "Well it's also that low level quests like these are like... the least efficient way to level up? If you're in a rush, probably best to rush the good ones and then circle back."
  14. The laugh-adjacent noise Lessa made sounded forced even to her own ears. "Ah, no, I haven't," she finally answered. "There are a lot of these beginner quests that I didn't get to when I first started the game. I had kind of a weird start to things." Recognizing the absurdity in her own statement, she amended, "More weird than finding out I was trapped in a death game that could actually kill me. Or, not more weird than that. I guess just... additional weirdness?" Murph didn't press, and Lessa was grateful for that. Instead, the blonde set to work creating and sending a party request. What
  15. A cakewalk. After spending the afternoon alone, creeping by mobs and avoiding conflict of any sort, the voice gave her more of a jolt than she'd like to admit. She'd swung around to face the source before she registered the action, her hand once more finding her weapon, just in case. When Murph's gaze landed on the two approaching players, her heart sank. Judging from her shiny armor and his twenty feet of height, <<Spear>> wasn't going to be getting her out of any bad situations. When the mountain of a man asked about the quest, she relaxed, but only marginally. "Ye

She waited for him to finish, not bothering to turn around, instead she looked at the truffles. They were considered a delicacy. Was there not some kind of unspoken rule to not feed them to pigs? or was that only truffle pigs. "Good Morning, Sleeping Beast." She said calmly, tossing the truffle up in the air and catching it. "Is gift, from quest NPC. I believe these are...tranquilizer truffles. I was wondering if they would work on people. How strong they were. The biolo

  19. Bael's boots crunched through the tall grass, still damp with morning dew. Each step left a faint shimmer of light as the system registered his movement. The air here was different, less the metallic tang of blood, more the sweetness of open fields. The memory of his last kill flickered through his vision, a soft ding echoing somewhere in his HUD before he dismissed it. The boars had scattered long ago, their squeals fading into the trees, leaving the field eerily quiet. He slung his greataxe over his shoulder, its edge still humming faintly from the kill. His gaze drifted lazily across t
  20. She attacked, the mobs died. And when they died she looted them. As she headed back to town, she realized just how tired of this grind she was. It wasn't really difficult, but doing the same shit over and over and over again was wearing her down. This would be the last one, she thought. It was a good stopping point. She started the day not being able to progress much of anything and now she could literally craft any equipment she wanted to. Well, almost any. And she couldn't claim that, quite yet. She returned to Richard's shop, materials in hand. Opening her menu, she waited fo
  21. Sin was bored of boars. She really wasn't much of a pork eater anyway. Despite the fact that it seemed that all Oscar cooked was hot dogs when it came to food buffs. She wondered if she could request that he make beef or chicken next time. Though she was certain she would get a lecture from the man about not violating the sanctity of the holy hot dog. He really did get hung up on the oddest things. At least he was hot. Didn't change the fact that she was bored of boars. Slimes though? Slimes were where it was at. All bouncy and squishy and cute. At least she would have something nice
  22. With her prep work in her office done, off Sin popped to Richard's shop. He was an ostentatious man. But clearly an expert. Smug, but that sort of air was deserved. Especially when Sin saw the opulent works that Richard had on display in his shop. But she had half expected a woman. Who knew that all of the crafting tutors in Aincrad were men? At least so far, this was such a fucking sausage party. “Hello!” Richard exclaimed. Sin snapped her fingers, jokingly firing off finger guns in the tutor's direction. “Five materials, come back and craft, and then I'm a Tailor?” Richa
  23. Today had been met with more productivity than Sin had managed to pull off in weeks. She had, by and large, surpassed the goal she had set for herself. Where she was once faced with the mountain of col standing in between her and Rank 5 Appraiser, she was now spoiled for choice. She took a detour, to the back rooms of the Blackbook. Looking around her office, she wondered what would count as a forge. Her first thought was a microwave. But that was more of a cook thing. And then it hit her. Opening her menu, she followed Oscar’s instructions toward making renovations to her office. Along t
